With all this new blood suddenly exploding on scene, it is quite difficult to see through the winter fog and make out who is going where. A few drivers are still pending for the moment, but the below list should be what is confirmed until today.

Sauber (formerly known as BMW Sauber)

Team Numbers and Drivers Unknown at this point.

2009 Drivers:

Nelson Piquet Jnr. (ex-Renault)

Sebastien Bourdais (ex-Toro Rosso)

Kazuki Nakajima (ex-Williams)

Nick Heidfeld (ex-BMW)

Christian Klien (ex-BMW test driver)

Kamui Kobayashi (ex-Toyota)

Romain Grosjean (ex-Renault, mid season)

Jaime Alguersuari (ex-Toro Rosso, mid season)

Kimi Raikkonen (ex-Ferrari, on one-year sabbatical)

The British pairing at the top of the grid makes for an exciting one. One cannot help put think back to the Hamilton-Alonso pairing (two hot heads) and the problems they encountered. Norbert Haug silenced doubts that history would repeat itself here. Hamilton can be a little cocky at times. I beg to differ with Haug. If not in 2010, then 2011.

Team McLaren

It was about time Nico Rosberg found a comfortable and worthy home for himself. He’s always been fast and consistent but never convincing enough for my liking. Is Michael Schumacher preparing to take the second seat? Is the world about to witness Schumi in overalls other than Red ones? That hasn’t happened since his various motor sport ventures in the Race of Champions and his motorcycle venture. Mercedes is German after all but because Schumi and Ferrari have been ubiquitous together, rest assured, fans of zee Ge’man are also die hard Red fans. Silver or Grey or whatever Mercedes come up with will not cut it.

Rosberg moves along to Team Mercedes

Fernando Alonso is a wild Spaniard. Does anyone else feel like F1 is slowly becoming A1GP’s big brother? British, German, and Latin…what’s next? Fernando is a wild Spaniard and it all spills out vigorously on track. He is perfect for Ferrari and everybody at the Scuderia could not agree more. I can’t wait for him to show us his Champion colors. I feel if I were to cut into his skin, he would leak blue and yellow. It will take some time for his immune system to get used to something else. Ferrari will inevitably do the job.

Alonso becomes part of the Scuderia

Lotus, Campos, USF1, and Virgin Racing are all suspended in midair for the moment. I am eager to see which falls where..first.

After competing in GP2 for four seasons and regularly testing for Renault, Lucas Di Grassi has been a familiar face in the Formula One paddock for a number of years. In fact, ever since he won the prestigious Formula Three Macau Grand Prix back in 2005, Di Grassi has been on the radar of many team principals as a young talent to watch. It may have been a long wait but next season the Brazilian will finally make it onto the Formula One grid, racing for the newly launched Virgin team alongside former Toyota driver Timo Glock. Here the 25 year-old discusses his new team, Glock and his prospects for 2010…

I think the first point to make as regards to the roumers that Michael Schumacher is actively lookin

I think the first point to make as regards to the roumers that Michael Schumacher is actively looking to reignite his career with Mercedes (née Brawn) GP is to understand that it seems his competitive instincts are undiminished. Until the accident that prevented him replacing Felipe Massa at Ferrari, Schumacher had been taking bike racing ever more seriously. He regularly karts, and enjoyed his regular appearance at the Race of Champions.

Although I would never profess to be a Schumacher fan, I would much rather see him back in F1 than losing the most statistically successful driver of all time to an accident in a low-level motorcycle race. Remember that champions often lose their lives doing other things (Graham Hill, Colin McRae, Jim Clark, Mike Hawthorn etc). Indeed, Ayrton Senna was one of the few former champions to lose his life in an F1 car. So from that point of view, I’d much rather see Michael getting his fix in a series that befits him and (when compared to motor cycle racing anyway) is relatively safe.

I am sure however that, commercial decisions aside, it is a pairing that can only go badly in some way for either Schumacher, Mercedes, or Nico Rosberg.

If Schumacher comes back and struggles, particularly against Rosberg, he will look like and idiot and his legacy will be devalued, much like Nigel Mansell, who after winning the ‘94 Austrailian GP should have retired, rather than persisting with an short-lived and unfortunate streak with McLaren in 1995. If Schumacher comes back with even only 60% of his previous skill in and out of the car, he may well destroy Rosberg, which will seriously limit Rosberg’s career prospects (I am a Rosberg fan but I fear its true nonetheless). Finally, if Schumacher lives the dream and wins many races and/or the championship, his genius will be (rightly) credited for the win – Mercedes’ efforts will be devalued.

Whichever way you look at it, someone is going to be disgruntled at the end of the year, and I fear it may be Michael…

* * *

A knock on effect of the shenanigans of Brawn/Mercedes/Mclaren/Button/Schumacher, is that Kimi Raikkonen was left without a drive befitting of his status. I think he has shown immense balls by giving the Word Rally Championship a go with Citroen. I will support his efforts to the hilt and after a difficult first few months, I think he will do better than a lot of people are expecting. Kimi is first and foremost an amazingly talented natural, precise and devastatingly fast driver of a car. This sounds like a daft thing to say, but I think where he lacks is out of the car – dealing with politics, engineers, media, leading a team etc. This is what blunts his package as a driver. When it comes to wheel and pedals though, I am convinced there is no one faster in recent F1 history.

Those skills are innate and are transferrable. He will just need to learn how to harness that in a WRC car (as Marcus Gronholm has mentioned).

To me, it seemed that simply, his motivation waned after snatching the 2007 championship from under the noses of Hamilton and Alonso. Since then, he has rarely turned it on and really excelled. However it’s still there, has his wonderful drive in Spa this year proved, in a car that was most likely a midfield contender.

Good luck Kimi, I hope you get your mojo back on the special stages!

I’ve finally got 5 minutes to myself, so I thought I’d do a quick post on the movements of all the drivers for 2010. Obviously, not everyone has been announced, but thus far, here are the teams and line-ups for the 2010 championship.

McLaren – Lewis Hamilton & Jenson Button (from Brawn GP now Mercedes)

Ferrari – Felipe Massa & Fernando Alonso (from Renault)

Brawn (now Mercedes) – Nico Rosberg (from Williams) & TBA

Red Bull Racing- Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber (no change)

Renault – Robert Kubica (From BMW Sauber) & TBA

Williams – Rubens Barrichello (from Mercedes formally Brawn) & Nico Hulkenburg

Force India - TBA & TBA

Toro Rosso – TBA & TBA

Manor GP – Timo Glock (from Toyota) & TBA

USF1 - Jose Maria Lopez (subject to securing sponsorship) & TBA

Lotus – Jarno Trulli & Heikki Kovalainen

Campos Meta – Bruno Senna & TBA

BMW Sauber – Withdrawn

Toyota – Withdrawn

This still leaves quite a few F1 drivers without a confirmed seat so far. These include ;

Heidfeld, Grosjean, Fisichella (quite likely to return to Force India), Sutil, Liuzzi, Kobiyashi, Alguersuari, Nakajima, Kovalainen, Raikkonen (sabbatical unless a championship winning seat is available). Other possibilities include De La Rosa, Piquet, Bourdais, Davidson, Sato and Wurz. I could continue, but it would make my list quite long.

There are several teams with one experienced driver announced, which could pave the way for them to sign a younger driver, or former F1 driver a second ‘rookie’ seat.

Campos have put their money in Senna and will want an experienced driver to direct the team into the 2010 season, which would leave the door open for drivers such as Heidfeld or even De La Rosa. Either way, I’ll keep the list updated with any further announcements.

As for the 2010 calendar, that’s had some changes also, and there is still some debate if some of the tracks will still be participating. Most notably in the United Kingdom, is the British Grand Prix. It has been said my Bernie Ecclestone that Silverstone (who have been handed an offer due to Donington now in the hands of administrators), has until the 9th of November to make their minds up or there is no British Grand Prix.

The Canadian GP is subject to completion of changes, Korean subject to completion and

A teljes mezőnyből mindössze négy csapat ismertette mindkét versenyzőjének a kilétét:

Renault: Robert Kubica (lengyel).
Campos: Bruno Senna (brazil) – a fiatal dél-amerikai tehetség a néhai Ayrton Senna unokaöccse.

Számos szakértő kétségbe vonja a US F1 2010-es indulását.

A McLaren seduziu Button.

Mielestäni viime vuosina tallipaikat on jaettu jonkun verran aikaisemmin. Mutta tänä vuonna näin. Joitain sääntöuudistuksia on tulossa ensi kaudelle kans. Olikohan jopa niin, että välitankkaus jää pois. Ja aika-ajoja rukataan taas johonkin suuntaan kans. Perinteisesti.

Q. Are you treating this as your last race for Williams? Nico Rosberg: It is my last race for Willia

Q. Are you treating this as your last race for Williams?

Nico Rosberg: It is my last race for Williams. And that is it really. It is a bit strange because for four or five years it is the only team I have worked with, so it has been a long time. I get on with everybody really well, obviously, and a lot of respect has built up – with the mechanics and everyone. So it will be quite strange to leave.

I can also use this opportunity to thank the team, because all in all I think they have done, for my career, a lot of good. Especially Sir Frank [Williams], Adam Parr, Sam Michael and Patrick [Head], they supported my career all these years. So it is a big thank you to them.

Q.So is your future settled then?

NR: I don’t want to talk about my future. I just want to say that I won’t be at Williams, because that is for sure.

Q. Do you know where you will be?

NR: I don’t want to say.

Q. Looking at your season this year, if you had to give yourself a grade of 1-100 on your performance, what grade would you give yourself?

NR: 101! Is that on the scale? No, I’m just kidding! I would say it has been a good season. I would say that the team has given me a good car this season, which has been important for me because it has given me the opportunity to raise my share value, and gave me a great opportunity for next year to have a chance to get a winning car to win races – which is what I would like to do. For me it has been a good season, and the team gave me a good car.

Of course, it was not as good as we wanted it to be, because we wanted to be on the podium winning races, but it was consistent. We always knew what we had. We knew whichever track we went to we would be up there, finishing top five for a series of races, and seventh in the world championship is okay. From my point of view, I got the best out of the car this season because I could not have beaten [Lewis] Hamilton or [Kimi] Raikkonen, I don’t think there was any way of beating them, so I got the best out of it. So I am quite pleased.

Q. Both you and Williams made a good step forward this season. How difficult a decision then was is for you to leave?

NR: To say it clearly, Williams is a great team. And there is no reason why they cannot be just as good as this year, next season – which is running quite close to the top. But I am not sure they can win races at the moment. With budgets still being rather free, and an engine change coming up which will not help, so I am not sure they can win races at this point of time – although I am convinced that they can do very well. But I would like to win races. That is what really encouraged me to push for the next step.

Q. So that was your priority – to be in a race-winning car from race one next year?

NR: You never know, but I would like to try and get into a car where I think there is a very good chance of winning.

Q. So will you announce your future after this race?

NR: No. It is going to take some time.

Q. Why will it take time? Is there some reason?

NR: Sorry, I can’t say.

Q. There is some talk that your affiliation is to Mercedes-Benz next year, and they will decide where you go…

NR: Sorry…but it is looking good.

Q. When will you able to say something?

NR: I don’t know. That is quite honest actually.

Q. Will it be a big surprise, or is it something that people already know?

NR: Sorry!

Q. You ran on the Abu Dhabi track this morning. What do you think of it?

NR: It looks great. It looks very good. It is very exciting also. The track should be good. With overtaking I am not sure, because the straight is very, very long. It should help overtaking I guess, but I am not sure. We have to wait and see. All the surroundings are spectacular.

What is very nice is the enthusiasm all the people have here. It is quite different to Bahrain, where it still needs to grow in terms of the enthusiasm from the people who live there. Whereas here, it is already very, very big. I was in Dubai for RBS, doing a sponsor day, and everybody was so enthusiastic which was great to see. It should be a very nice event from that point of view.

Q. Have you done the track in the simulator?

NR: On the simulator I did three hours of running. It was very accurate, so I know the track inside out already. When I go out there, I know exactly what to expect.

Q. And the pitlane exit tunnel?

NR: I hit the wall three times! And I heard the McLaren drivers did a couple more than that. It was the outside wall.

Q. So do you think it will be a problem this weekend?

NR: It should be fine. I don’t think there will be any problem.

Q. The fact that Abu Dhabi has made such an effort, do you think it could be a problem for the future of the European races?

NR: You don’t necessarily need that [effort] to have a great grand prix weekend. Most European standards are okay now. F1 needs the grands prix in Europe. The home of F1 is Europe, so I think we need to keep our base there. But it is also nice to have some new races across the world – and to spread F1 a little bit.

Essas mudanças reduziram o peso do motor a 307 kg, produzindo 520 cv.
