But if you are not having fun tell me why and I’ll see what can be done. some runs will still be spur of the moment and runs will form without guild approval. As a general rule you should not get saved to Ice Crown and other end-game raids until you know you can’t make a guild run. A guild run is organized by me, Logos, Helmarn, Earnst, Garrin or Alocos. Well, it’s about 1/3 the way through the season and it’s time to evalute the Rangers roster to find out who’s doing well and who’s doing poor. The grades will range from A+ all the way down to F.

Up first:

Marian Gaboirk. It’s quite obvious, A+. Gabby has 21 goals, 18 assists and is second in the NHL with 39 points. He’s basically the only one on the Rangers who can consistantly score goals.

Vaclav Prospal. A+. I was debating giving him an A but, he’s been great centering Gaborik. Prospal’s production has slowed of late but he is still playing well.

Ales Kotalik. B+. If he could hit the net more with his shot from the point on the PP then he would probably have 12 goals instead of 6. He is slightly overpaid (what’s new?) but in the shootout, there is no one better.

Michael Del Zotto. A. He’s been a great addition to the powerplay for the Rangers. He leads the NHL in rookie defenseman scoring with 17 points. 11 of his points have come on the powerplay, and he looks really confident on the ice.

Artem Anisimov. B-. He didn’t play that well on the first line with Gaborik and Prospal, but I could see him centering the second line for some time. It’s strange his 13 points are fifth on Rangers, but he has played well.

Sean Avery. B. His play has been inproving since the game in Ottawa a few weeks ago. He hasn’t been scoring goals as much as we’d like, but he is on pace for his career average, around 15 goals.

Marc Staal. C. He isn’t an offensive defenseman. I think that Tortorella has realized that. I hope they try to turn in to the stay at home defenseman that he really is. He could become a premier defensive defenseman in a few years with the proper practice.

Chris Higgins. C-. At least we dumped Gomez’s salary to get him. Right? Sure. He’s got 10 points which isn’t very good. Hopefully he picks up his offensive game a little bit.

Brandon Dubinsky. B. Has missed 12 games with a broken hand. He was scoring pretty well playing on the line with Gaborik and Prospal. Hopefully he can return quickly.

Chris Drury. C-. His defensive game is very good, although he does turn the puck over from time to time. He seems to be playing better ever since he returned from his concussion a few weeks ago.

Ryan Callahan. D+. Ah, Ryan. He hasn’t quite produced the way would all would like or expected. He has 9 points (5 G, 4 A) in 30 games. He scored a goal in Buffalo and hopefully he picks up the pace for the rest of the year.

Dan Girardi. C-. He’s been okay defensively. He has times where he looks like an all-star and other times he looks confused. If he was more consistant he could be a great defenseman.

Enver Lisin. D+. He got hurt a few weeks ago with a broken foot. He didn’t look too good after returning from the injury, but he has looked better as of late.

Michal Roszival. D. He has looked terrible on defense. He hasn’t looked good offensively. In a perfect world he’s be banished to the minors.

Wade Redden. A-. Maybe it’s the fact that he hasn’t had the pressure of being the PP QB this year, but Wade has looked very good on defense for the Rangers this year. It’s no coincidence that in the three games right after his injury, the Rangers were terrible on defense.

Matt Gilroy. B-. Not as good as Del Zotto, but he has been above average on defense. He hasn’t been the offensive defenseman that he was touted as being, but that will come as he learns to play in the NHL.

P.A. Parenteau. C+. He’s played pretty good since his call-up. He scored two shootout winners I believe. He has 4 points in 13 games which isn’t the greatest, but what can you expect?

Brian Boyle. D. He’s a big guy. And he’s a good centerman. He doesn’t score goal and shouldn’t be expected to be. He has played well in his role though.

Donald Brashear. F. Not explaination needed.

Aaron Voros. D-. He’s better than Brashear. That’s a positive, right?

Dane Byers. D. Looked okay in his call up, but was quickly returned to the NHL.

Erik Christensen. Has only played 3 games, so it’s too early to judge him.

Bobby Sanguinetti. See above.

Ilkka Heikkinen. See above.

Henrik Lundqvist. B. He;s played very well as of late, but he is prone to letting in a goal at the worst possible time. (see: Detroit, Chicago) He is still a word class goalie and hopefully he picks it up.

Chad Johnson. Hasn’t played a game in the NHL yet but has looked good in the AHL. Hopefully he is good.

• The Revs have resigned Kenny Mansally, Sainey Nyassi, and Kheli Dube.  No word on contract terms.
• Midfielder Mauricio Castro has been suspended for the first two games of the 2010 season for kicking a ball into the stands in the season finale against Chicago.  You may remember that Castro blasted a ball into the Toyota Park seats after being taken hard into the sign boards by a Fire player.  The sign boards had intentionally close to the field by the home team to limit the effectiveness of Darrius Barnes’ long throws.  Castro cut his hand on the play; the offending Fire player was not even whistled for a foul.
• Midfielder Mike Videira has had offseason hernia surgery that will keep him sidelined 6-8 weeks.

I often see aircraft in Thailand and want to know their details. In the old days I bought annual books, for example the Ian Allan series published in the UK. Now there are so many free resources available on the net, a frugal transport enthusiast does not need to buy them. I pity the poor specialist publisher.

I wrote recently about airfleets.net. it is excellent for airline fleet rosters worldwide. For Thai aviation I have found nothing better that http://thai-aviation.net/. In addition to a full historical Thai civil roster the site has lists of Thai military and government aircraft and helicopters. It also has listings of museum stock – useful for my visits to the Royal Thai Air Force Museum – and “wrecks and relics”.

I wasn’t ignoring the Dominican Republic until now. I wanted the final featured team to be a showstopper.

In the post about Cuba, I mentioned that Castro’s emergence put an end to the run of great players from Cuba coming to the major leagues. In the meantime, the Dominican Republic, which didn’t send its first player to the big leagues until 1956, has become a baseball factory of sorts.

That first player was Ozzie Virgil Sr., the father of the All-Star catcher, and perhaps best remembered now as one of Dick Williams’ coaches at several stops. In 2010, the Dominican Republic will send player No. 500 to the show. Dominicans now account for about 10 percent of major league rosters.

As Whitey Herzog said a few years ago, the kids there play the game the way youngsters once played it here – all the time. But it’s more than that for them. It’s a means to an end

With the success of players like Pedro Martinez or Manny Ramirez, the youngsters see baseball as a way off the island – and to a life with things they can only imagine if they are growing up in poverty, as many are.

The man, or “El Hombre,” now is Albert Pujols. His success already has him as a certain Hall of Famer; it’s just a matter of how high he can go. He’s the 10th player to win three or more MVPs. Some of the other three-time MVPs: Berra, DiMaggio, Mantle, Musial, Schmidt. Albert is up there already, and he doesn’t turn 30 until next year.

This roster is powerful, and evolving. You might be surprised at some of the names missing, but it was very difficult to chop the last five or so. If we continue through the years with this project as I hope, I expect to see a lot of changes on this thing, perhaps year to year. (If you’re a young Dominican-born player, and you want to be on this team for a long time, I suggest taking up catching.)

Manager Felipe Alou, who would probably have been a starter on an all-Dominican team a couple of decades ago, has some tough choices to make. If he wanted to, he could have an all-offense team with David Ortiz at first base, Pujols at third, Alfonso Soriano at second and any three guys in the outfield, Manny Ramirez in left and perhaps Vlad Guerrero or Sammy Sosa in center in place of Cesar Cedeno, the only true CF on the roster. The defense would be suspect, to say the least.

Even with a more defensively-minded group on the field, this team will have no problem putting runs on the scoreboard. When Pedro or Juan Marichal is on the mound, it is going to be extremely difficult to beat. The rest of the time, I’m not so sure. And the bullpen might be a little frightening at times. But it is the best of the international group, a solid contender for the title, and is only getting better all the time.

Thanks for following along. That’s it for the teams, although we may go back and revisit a few of the rosters before we start playing. It has been a lot of fun on this journey, looking at each of the states and the corners of the world that have produced our players.

Japan today, then the Dominican Republic, and “Play Ball” is just around the corner.

A few words about the cards and ratings that will allow us to play not only the big leaguers from Japan, but also the greats from the Japanese leagues who didn’t make it over here. Fred Bobberts, Len Durrant and others should take a bow (sorry). It’s fantastic to see players like Shigeo Nagashima and Masaichi Kaneda included in our project.

As such, this is going to be a deservedly strong team. If I had only the MLB guys to pick from, it would include a decent lineup, almost no bench, OK starting pitching and a strong bullpen. With the Japanese leagues’ players included, they’re strong almost all the way around except in the depth department. The lineup is much stronger than the backups.

Ichiro is one of my favorites and I could talk about him at length. He visited George Sisler’s grave when he was in St. Louis for the All-Star Game … could you imagine any other player doing something like that? The guy just gets it. And he might even be honored to participate in this thing, who knows.

But I want to turn the clock back to the 1970s and discuss Sadaharu Oh. Hank Aaron had just broken Babe Ruth’s career home run record. But in Japan, Oh was about to pass Aaron. He would finish his career in 1980, with 868 homers.

Not much was known about the Japanese leagues then. Oh’s home run total wasn’t taken very seriously because the ballparks were too small, the competition was like Triple-A, any number of reasons. It was true that guys like Randy Bass were going over to Japan and succeeding where they hadn’t in the States. But Oh certainly could have succeeded in the majors with that Mel Ott type leg kick. No one else was close to him in Japan.

The feeling started to change when Cecil Fielder made a mid-career stop in Japan. He returned, hit 51 homers in Detroit, and Japan was getting baseball attention in the U.S. again.

Next came Nomo. He took the U.S. by storm in 1995 and while his career didn’t sustain at that level, he proved that a Japanese player could succeed.

Ichiro came in 2001 and is still performing at the level he was when he arrived. He seems certain to get 3,000 hits, not even counting all the ones he had in Japan. Hideki “Godzilla” Matsui arrived a couple years later and has done well for the Yankees, and made history with his MVP performance earlier this month in the World Series. There are other guys with big postseason moments here such as So Taguchi, Tadahito Iguchi and Dave Roberts (born in Okinawa).

For the manager, we could go with Oh or Nagashima, but I’ll take Tetsuharu Kawakami, who won nine consecutive Japan Series in the late 1960s and early ’70s. Sort of like UCLA basketball at that time.

If you’re looking for a dark horse candidate to win this thing, look no further. Remember, Japan won the World Baseball Classic in 2006 and 2009. They know how to do it.

Skoro coś zapowiedziałem, to należałoby słowa dotrzymać. A więc do dzieła.  Z racji tego iż ostatni post pojawił się w sierpniu, musiałem odświeżyć zawartość całego bloga, wykonałem to w takiej kolejności:

#1 – Działy

A więc w dziale “Roster” możecie po odświeżeniu, odnaleźć aktualnie pracujących zawodników w federacji.  Nowością jest to iż możecie dowiedzieć się, jaki finisher stosuje dany zawodnik, gdyż znajdziecie go w nawiasie. Póki co wpisane ma je mała grupka wrestlerów jednak niebawem zostaną one wpisane dla wszystkich.  W dziale “Titatrony” w miarę możliwości, znajdziecie najnowsze Entrance Theme’y waszych ulubieńców. Jednak aktualizacje będą się stale pojawiać. Jeśli chodzi o treść zostały zresetowane działy “Wyniki” oraz “PPV”. Znajdziecie więc w nich informacje startując od dzisiaj, a nie od sierpnia. Swoją formę zachowają zaś “Klasyczne Momenty” oraz “Klasyczne Walki”. Nowy materiał co prawda, będzie się pojawiał co tydzień, ale zapewni to jak najlepszą ich jakość. Nowością jest dział “Bio” gdzie przeczytać, będzie można biografię wrestlerów TNA. Na rozgrzewkę możecie przeczytać jak potoczyła się kariera AJ Styles’a. Nie wykluczone że już niebawem zobaczycie, 2 lub 3 nowe działy, jednak nic teraz więcej zdradzić nie mogę.

#2 – Wygląd

Pewnym zmianom uległa również prawa strona bloga. Z racji tego iż zniknął dział zdjęcia (dlaczego, wytłumaczę w 3 punkcie) będzie można podziwiać zdjęcie tygodnia, na którym za pewne często będziemy mogli podziwiać TNA Knockouts. Po za tym wszystkie przydatne funkcje pozostały, jak przeszukiwanie wpisów poprzez kategorię czy datę dodania. Zmienił się również górny banner, przez co wygląd jest już oryginalniejszy, oraz wskazuje o jakiej tematyce jest blog.

#3 – Reklama

Nie da się nie zauważyć, że w większości działów znajduje się reklama forum Polish Wrestling Zone. Dlaczego tam jest? Po części to forma reklamy, gdyż tak samo jak ten blog, forum jest w moim projektem (jestem jego współzałożycielem), który nie ma jeszcze takiej renomy, jaką mieć powinien. Więc jeśli interesujcie się wrestlingiem i szukacie miejsca do rozmowy na tematy z nim związane, ale chcecie też poznać fajnych ludzi i dobrze się bawić, rejestrujcie się na PWZ. Co do zdjęć o których wspomniałem powyżej, dział na blogu był bezsensowny, gdyż rejestrując się na forum, znajdziecie w odpowiednim dziale, setki zdjęć z gorącymi i pięknymi TNA Knockouts. To powinien być kolejny mocny argument do rejestracji.

#4 – Podsumowanie

Blog nie zmienia swojego profilu, będzie was informował na bieżąco co się dzieje w TNA, znajdziecie w nim raporty, felietony oraz wiele innych rzeczy które są kompendium wiedzy dla fana federacji w Orlando. Więc nie pozostaje mi nic innego jak zaprosić do odwiedzania PWZ i tego bloga codziennie i pozostawiania komentarzy!
