by the Professional Power Tool Guide When you are used to working on the construction site day after

by the Professional Power Tool Guide

When you are used to working on the construction site day after day, you can become very comfortable with the sights and sounds of big equipment working. If you are used to putting your head down and working all day every day, you should know that you might be at risk for damaging your ears and ability to hear as clearly as you should. Even though you might feel like after a few hours you can’t even hear the work that’s going on all around you, your ears are still being exposed to stressful levels of sound that could potentially harm your hearing. Ear protection to protect your hearing is essential for workplace safety.

Have you ever gotten home from a long day at work to feel like your ears were constantly ringing? This is a good indication that you are being exposed to high levels of noise pollution. If you were working on a job site that had you working in tight quarters with asbestos or other airborne particulates, you would never head into the project without wearing safety goggles and a high quality dust mask or respirator. This is only good practice so that you can get the job done safely, and ear protection to protect your hearing is just as important.

If you’re not sure whether you need to protect you hearing, you should think about the types of tools that you are working with or around for extended periods of time every day. Jackhammers, power drills, routers and buzz saws all produce high levels of close range noise pollution, and if you are working around these tools you should be aware that your ear drums are being put under a lot of stress repeatedly. High pressure and high frequencies are the enemies of a healthy ear drum.

If you think that you’ve already been damaged by noise pollution on the job site, you should have your hearing examined by a qualified professional. If they can tell that some damage has been done, they will not doubt require that you use ear protection to protect your hearing in the future. This can mean purchasing some high quality ear muffs or plugs that are designed for industrial use. There are plenty of brands of ear protection products available on the market, and you can shop around until you find the style and level of protection that is best for you.

Just saw that Hewlett Packard is acquiring 3Com for deal valued at around $2.7 billion.

3Com will also provide Hewlett Packard with its TippingPoint portfolio which is a network security system.

From TechCrunch:

HP says the acquisition will further its data center strategy “built on the convergence of servers, storage, networking, management, facilities and services.” The acquisition of 3Com also help to expand HP’s Ethernet switching offerings, add routing solutions and significantly strengthen the company’s position in China thanks to 3Com’s strong presence in China.

From CNNMoney.com:

3Com took in $1.3 billion in revenue last year on its networking and securities solutions products. The Marlborough, Mass.-based company mostly does business with corporate clients, and its H3C networking unit is a market leader in China.

HP said it made the acquisition to expand its networking solutions offerings and to “significantly strengthen the company’s position in China.”

Over the past year, HP has increased its services and business solutions business exponentially, catapulted by its $13.9 billion acquisition of services firm EDS last year.

From InformationWeek:

3Com will bring a wide-ranging portfolio of network switching, routing and security solutions to HP. The technology will boost HP’s already potent networking offerings, which are centered in HP Procurve.

“By acquiring 3Com, we are accelerating the execution of our converged infrastructure strategy and bringing disruptive change to the networking industry, HP executive vice president Dave Donatelli said in a statement.

HP’s converged infrastructure architecture, announced Nov. 4, essentially creates a one-stop data-center shop. It packages HP’s compute, storage, networking offerings into a highly virtualized bundle which can be centrally managed.

That move came shortly after Cisco linked up with EMC and VMware in a partnership which tightly integrates storage alongside easy-to-manage virtualized data-center bundles called V-Blocks.

Much of my time is spent researching data sheets and release notes to determine the capabilities of a product and you can learn a lot about the capabilities of the product by reading these documents. However, the most important thing I’ve learned is how to read a document in such a way that you can determine what the product does not support. The vendors of course never tell you what isn’t supported, they tell you what is supported.

This I have found is the most challenging task in product research and without the skill you can find yourself in a difficult position after the product is already sold into the promises have been made. I don’t think this something you can teach but it is something you learn over time after being burned. Who pays for these mistakes? It is certainly not the vendors and it’s not the customer, it is the person responsible for the implementation.

Recently after discussing with a new customer requirements for a the firewall VPN URL filtering IPS device [all in wonder box] I did a little research and came up with a solution utilizing a Cisco IOS ISR router. I had thought I had done all my research, but during deployment we ran into some real snags!

First issue: not enough flash to run SSL VPN at IPS concurrently.
Second issue: URL filtering not supported using C B A C- must use zone-based configuration.

In reading through the data sheets for this router I read nothing about the flash limitations on the router that is sold to support SSL VPN and IPS concurrently. A flash upgrade was obviously required but this could not be determined until we had already ran into the issue. For the second issue, I have no one to blame but myself for I just assumed that URL filtering was supported using Cisco’s original IOS firewall technology. Had I done just a little more research I would’ve found the document to talk about URL filtering and how it’s configured in a zone-based firewall deployment. Nowhere does it say that URL filtering is not available using CBAC.

Live and learn as they say. I won’t be making that mistake again but at the rate that technology changes I probably wouldn’t have the opportunity to make that mistake again. I’m sure a new one is on the horizon but I’ll be sure to read all the documents so that I can determine what they have not told me.

All networks are built from basic building blocks of the network nodes to connect, such as network interface cards (NICs), bridges, hubs, switches and routers. In addition, a method of connecting these building blocks, usually in the form of galvanic cable (usually Category 5 cable). Less common are microwave links (as in IEEE 802.12) or optical cables (optical fiber). Ethernet card may be required.

A network bridge connects multiple network segments in the layer data link (layer 2) of the OSI model. Bridges not promiscuous copy traffic to all ports, as hubs, but to know the MAC addresses are reachable through specific ports. Since the members of a bridge of a port and an address, it will send traffic to this address only to that port. Bridges send broadcasts to all ports, except that where the transmission was received.

Bridges learn the association of ports and addresses by examining the source address of frames that can be seen in various ports. Once a picture is through a gate, the source address is stored and the bridge assumes that MAC address is connected to that port. The first time that an unknown destination address is seen above, the bridge of the frame to all ports other than the frame arrived.

Bridges come in three basic types:

1. Local bridges: Directly connect local area networks (LANs)
2. Remote bridges: Can be used in a Wide Area Network (WAN) to create connections between local networks. Remote bridges, where the connection is slower than the networks finals, largely been replaced by routers.
Due this unwanted situation we lost our some personal setting and data. We can restore old data can but setting is very difficult to restore unless you created ghost for Windows. Ghost is setup which takes backups of whole windows settings and restores it when you want. But usually we observed that many people avoid using such complicate applications.

Hardware engineer can restore all the necessary settings and installations, but many time we found that these guys fail to setup internet connection and get panic and advice user to call BSNL guy. And due to his (engineer) lack of information he struck between engineer and BSNL technicians for Internet service. I can bet you that once you lost your internet connections then you have to struggle for more then 2 weeks to invite BSNL technicians to your home for setups, because these technicians are busy with other works and by the time they will forget your priority.

If you think to get help from customer care then it is also hopeless 1500. Reason most time it shows out of order or number is not available reply. They work between 8 to 8 but not in Sundays and Bank Holidays or Holidays approved by BSNL. They will start working after 10 am but they signoff in right time that is 6 pm or 7 pm. But if you are luck then sometime they available till 8 pm.

But Broadband setup is very easy and it dose not require any high level networking knowledge. I collect these set up procedures from BSNL technician to do myself avoid reliability on BSNL. This is shared because I do not want to suffer other BSNL broadband customers. Please read carefully and then proceed.

* * Before doing any setups for broadband make sure modem is connected to PC other you will struck in middle of setup process.

* *Also I want tell you that I am living at Nallasopara, Mumbai. So it may be possible that some of steps are ignored by your BSNL ISP. But I think BSNL use common setups for same region customers.

** If you format the PC then no need to configure the Modem only just configure new connection in PC, because your PC formatted not Modem. If modem is Reset then only Modem require to new setup configurations.

To make easy I divided this full installation into two part ,

1) Connection Setting in PC

Default Gateway – 192.168.1.1

Preferred DNS Server – 192.168.1.1

“You can change your IP by just right click on Local Area Connection and select properties, then scroll down and select – Internet Protocol (TCI/PI)

Then click on properties”

Next part will cover in next blog post. I do not want that you face those trouble once again which is already experienced by me. In next blog post I will cover the telephone details for any help regarding BSNL broadband issues.
