Hi friends!! Are we all looking forward to the weekend? You know my feelings on weekends. But this i

Hi friends!! Are we all looking forward to the weekend? You know my feelings on weekends. But this is my last week doing a full weekend of 5am shifts. I switched days off with a co-worker, so I have next Sunday off. So now next Saturday (Dec 5) is my last day at the radio station!

On the other job front, I know I yammered away about not being able to exercise in my last post, but I do fully expect to take extra rest days now that I’ll be working on my feet 40 hours a week. Exercise, to me, isn’t fully about being fit and staying thin though. In perfect honesty, it’s my love. It’s always my favourite part of the day, and the thing I look forward to most. I’m a total endorphin junkie. The thought of not being able to exercise makes me very sad. I also plan on paying special attention to my body, as I expect my appetite will increase with a more active job.

However, I got a reeeeally good endorphin fix this morning in spin class. Man! It was good! I slept awful last night, maybe five hours? I blame it on the coffee tasting I did at Starbucks (Christmas Blend is pretty good this year).

Anyways, I told myself that if I felt like crap when my alarm went off, I’d just skip the class and go back to sleep. Sleep trumps everything for me, even exercise. But come 5:30 I was ready to go! I hopped out of bed and proceeded to push probably the hardest I ever have in spin class. It wasn’t on purpose, I was just really feeling the resistance today. My legs are especially sore right now, and I feel good knowing I got out of my comfort zone

I refuelled with a PB&J oatmeal sandwich bowl when I came home.

3/4 cup rolled oats

2 1/4 cups water

1/2 scoop vanilla whey powder

cinnamon

peanut butter

blackberry jam

Action shot of the “sandwiching.” I let these oats simmer on the stove for about 20 minutes while I primped this morning. Oh gosh. They were so mushy and creamy. I like my oats over-cooked, and these were perfection!

[insert work here]

And then I came home and made supper! An old favourite: bowl o’ protein.

curry powder, ground cumin, chili powder

1/2 block firm tofu, crumbled

red pepper

zucchini

mushrooms

red onion

tomato

spinach

jalapeño

salsa

laughing cow cheese

scrambled egg

pepper

Basically, I just scrambled this in a pan, but I did the egg separately, otherwise it gets lost in the mess. Yum!! I love eating food from a bowl It’s a comfort thing.

Okay, so I know there’s been a lot of weight lifting talk lately, but I just have to share some of this info! I get a Men’s Health newsletter everyday that is actually quite informative most days (Men’s Health is one of my favourite fitness mags). Today was no different! They shared 7 Muscle-Building Mistakes to Avoid. Here are the highlights:

Skipping Basics

Plenty of lifters believe that doing isolation exercises like chest flies and leg extensions is the only way to make their muscles grow. But basic moves such as bench presses and squats force several muscle groups to work together, imposing more stress on your body for bigger gains.

“Your body reacts to all that stress by having the anterior pituitary gland issue more growth hormone to compensate for the extra effort,” says Allen Hedrick, C.S.C.S., head strength-and-conditioning coach at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Of course you need variation, but don’t abandon basic moves in favor of intermediate isolation exercises.

Fix it: Write down the exercises in your routine to see what percentage of them are compound moves. “If it’s not in the range of at least 40 to 50 percent, then you’re doing too many isolation exercises,” says Bell.

Starvation

You need to eat after your workout. Right after a session, your body is hustling to convert glucose into glycogen so your muscles can repair themselves and grow. “If you don’t eat after exercise, your body breaks down muscle into amino acids to convert into glucose,” says John Ivy, Ph.D., chairman of kinesiology at the University of Texas.

Fix it: After you work out, eat a high-carbohydrate meal—and don’t forget the protein. A study in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that a four-to-one carbohydrate-to-protein ratio can provide 128 percent greater muscle-glycogen storage than a high-carbohydrate drink alone. (They used Endurox R Recovery Drink in the study.) For even greater results, have a sports drink before and during exercise.

First, I love the tip about doing 50 percent compound moves. Second, I like the 4:1 carb-protein ratio for post-workout meals. I’ve heard this before, but am still constantly berated with advice to suck back the protein after. Good stuff! Although, I have opposing thoughts about the sports drink while weight lifting, but my goals are different. You can see the rest of the list here.

Alrighty folks, time to wrap up my traditional early Friday night post. These are soon going to be a thing of the past once I’m done at the reporting job. Maybe I’ll start going out on Friday nights like a regular person!

Question of the Day: What do you think are some common exercise mistakes? One that immediately comes to mind is people who stretch before a workout. Most research shows that stretching cold muscles can do more harm than good, and that if you must-stretch it should be after your warm-up when you’re more flexible. Personally, I just like doing really long warm-ups.

I have been hindered by some reasons for sometime and couldn’t give much attention to many pro

I have been hindered by some reasons for sometime and couldn’t give much attention to many projects, let alone writing blog posts. Good news is that I resumed working on them again, and have been fixing bugs and adding new features to ExMan.

ExMan is now tagged with version 0.3 which includes the following bug fixes and enhancements:

ExMan is now available as source tar ball, RPM, and DEB for Ubuntu. Ubuntu packages were requested by many, so tonight I went ahead and downloaded Ubuntu 9.10, installed it in VirtualBox on Fedora 12, then installed the qt-dev-tools packages and built ExMan, learned creating DEB packaging in an hour (it was much simpler compared to learning how to prepare RPMs), and created .deb for Ubuntu.

Drag-n-Drop capability: You have added an entry, now you just drag-n-drop it down, ExMan will automatically create a new row. If you dropped it into an existing row, the contents of the dragged columns are copied.

Drag an existing row and drop into empty area

Dropping into empty area created a new row

Drag and Drop contents into existing entry copies them

Cut-Copy-Paste: Now you can do those fancy ‘cut-copy-paste’ with familiar keystrokes – Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. [This was the toughest to implement, as QTableWidget or QTableWidgetItem do not implement them by default]

Proper Unicode storage support: Write entries in your native language. ExMan will store them and display them back properly now. There was a bug which prevents Unicode characters not being displayed back properly, which is fixed now.

ExMan used to crash while deleting some rows with the Delete (“X“) button. Fixed in this version.

There was a bug which didn’t modify the amount when it changed multiple times. Fixed in this version.

Go ahead and try it. If you find any bug, or want to add a cool new feature, do let me know. For developers, the git repository is available at
git://exman.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/exman/exman

It always seems a strange thing to do, drag yourself out of bed on a Saturday morning to sit on a static bike in a room with others and push yourself to the limit while the latest chart hits are pounding your ears. But, it works, great fun, hard exercise and you feel so much better for it. Like most exercise the hardest part is the initial motivation to do it. My next challenge is to get outside on my road bike – not a pleasant thought with the weather at this time of the year.

Is it just me or is this week dragging? I think there’s some law in physics that says as soon as you give notice at your job, the weeks that follow are the slowest of your life.

Or, I assume there’s a law. I failed the physics portion of grade 10 science.

But I do know that today was Waffle Wednesday!! The perfect way to perk up my hump day blues

Blueberry waffles! Using my usual protein pancake recipe (found under the Eats tab) and a handful of frozen blueberries.

Is that a peek of natural daylight I see on there!? I managed to sleep in till 7am today, so breakfast was photographed as the sun was rising over the river

I recently read an article by Tosca Reno in Clean Eating Magazine about all the benefits of wheat grass. I can’t find the article online, but she basically talks about how it’s a natural detoxifier, etc. I’m not always an easy sell, and this small article totally convinced me!

I don’t have any straight-up wheat grass, but I do have a whole canister of plain Amazing Grass SuperFood. It’s not a smoothie powder, but more of an “addition,” like a shot of greens to any smoothie. Anyways, I thought I’d just try it as a shot mixed with a little unsweetened vanilla almond milk.

Most normal people would take one look at this and back off. It looks disgusting.

Yeah, well it tasted disgusting too. I will not be doing this again. Experiments with SuperFood however will continue…

I was hoping the greens would give me a bit of a magical boost for spin class today. I actually convinced Chris to come with me this time! Chris is a hardcore cyclist. He does mostly road cycling these days, but he was also quite the mountain biker back in the day. The man is obsessed (and also taught me everything I know about bikes).

Ironically, it was Chris’ first spin class. It was funny to see such a pro on a spin bike. I forgot to tell him not to go all out at the beginning, because our class gets much harder as it goes on. Even if I had, I don’t think it would have mattered. The boy needs to go as fast as possible whenever possible

Afterwards, we went out for lunch. I had some turkey.

Except mine was in a pita… at Pita Pit. Anyone else creeped out that this bird has manboobs? I find the decorations in this place to be really trippy.

hummus

lettuce

green pepper

mushrooms

onions

tomatoes

olives

pickles

sprouts

Chris got a chicken caesar.

Caught mid-chew.

Caught mid-stuffing-face. I’m just replacing my depleted sodium stores from sweating in spin class

Then I got called into work early. Boo. Managed to sneak home for a quick dinner though.

Grilled tuna sandwich and carrot sticks. That’s just one carrot! It was ginormous!!! Way bigger than a parsnip even. I ate it all. I’m a carrot fiend. No shame.

So I have a confession to make. I’ve been suffering from a little blogger envy lately. I’ve been comparing myself to others, and it’s not good.

No, I’m not talking about people running faster than me, eating healthier than I, or looking better in a bikini.

I found I was getting jealous that many bloggers seem to have the financial means to do and buy many things that I, at this point, could only dream of. I found myself wishing that I too could afford to just hop on a plane and attend a big event. I can hardly splurge on a new coat and yet every day I read about someone else buying a new SLR camera and fancy new lens to boot.

Truth is, I’m more poor now than I was as a university student. It will be a long time until I can afford even a decent food processor. I am by no means looking for sympathy. Growing up in a wealthy family, I learned that money does not buy happiness. As a result, I put little importance on it. But that doesn’t mean I don’t sometimes wish for certain items, or dream of travelling when I can’t.

But I think it’s important to remember that I don’t need fancy plates to be a good blogger. I don’t need a dehydrator to be a healthy eater. I shouldn’t compare myself to these other people, but instead be content with what I do have.

Lunch may not have been a five course meal at a fancy restaurant, but dammit, it was cheap and good. And I know you guys can appreciate that

Question of the Day: If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money? Travel is the obvious answer here, but for interest sake, I would also buy a really expensive bottle of whiskey, a commuter bike and PB2

Ibarat saklar, angka nol berarti off sedangkan angka 1 artinya on.

Data.

Kilobyte

Satu kilobyte data bejumlah begitu bermakna.

Megabyte

Diatas kilobyte, kita menemukan satuan megabyte (MB).

Megahertz (MHz)

Satu Megahertz berarti satu juta putaran tiap detik.

Kecepatan Harddisk (rpm)

Singkatan rpm (revolution per minute) pada harddisk menentukan kecepatan putar pelat magnetiknya. Semakin tinggi nilai rpm, semakin cepat pula putaran pelat disk.

Kecepatan Printer (ppm)

Para vendor printer biasanya menawarkan kecepatan pencetakan printernya.

After testing out the Acrteryx R320 I was interested in trying out the competition. Right now I am testing the Black Diamond Chaos with the Kinetic Core Construction. So far I’ve mainly been cragging but it went up the Freeblast twice back in October. After a bunch more pitches I will be doing a full review with a comparison against the R320.

The BD Chaos fully loaded on Hidden Arch in Joshua Tree

I just bought a pair of La Sportiva Speedsters so I will be contributing to Lizzy’s review so we can get a dual perspective on this new soft soled slipper. Expect this in the next two months after Lizzy and I have a chance to go bouldering on real rock.

Lizzy and I have been climbing multipitches for a while and have found that in some situations hauling the pack can be ideal for the follower. After putting holes in many of our packs we have recently switched to using the Metolius Haul Packs when we want to haul.

A mess of gear and the yellow Metolius Shield Haul Pack

On the Original Route on Rainbow Wall I hauled a Zodiac pack, 15L, and on El Captain we used the Shield, 31 L, as a sub bag. These bags still look great after 10 and 22 pitches of hauling respectively. After a few more trips I plan on publishing a review and a few hauling tips.

Also I think it would be nice to provided a summary of the summit/ follower packs that Lizzy and I have used. My current favorite is the Black Diamond RPM which is a bit on the large size (26L) but compacts easily and holds weight really well.

Walking across the Mammoth Terraces on El Captain with the Black Diamond RPM pack.

After much searching and frustration with outdoor clothing companies, Lizzy has finally found a pair of non-cotton, non-yoga-style climbing pants that fit her in addition to providing sun and bug protection. After a few months of testing for durability Lizzy will be writing a review of the Columbia Womens’ Trekster pants. Also, Lizzy has been using the new Black Diamond Stone gloves and should have a review of them out shortly.

I have a pair of the Black Diamond N-Force Ascenders and will be doing a comparison with the Petzl Ascension. After using the BD ascenders 4 days straight on Freerider I have a good idea about what I like and what doesn’t work.

N-Force in hand, ready for El Captain!

#rpm -iv arquivo_rpm_gerado.rpm

By Dirk Van Dijk
November 11, 2009

OK, Halloween is over, but some of the best-looking industries according to the Zacks Rank are those that not long ago were considered part of the living dead.

Case in point, is the top performing sector — Auto-Truck-Tires. Out of 206 industries tracked, the sector has five of them, and the worst of the bunch, Foreign Autos, ranked tied for 89th with a composite score of 2.88. None of the groups were at the very top, but all were better than average.

The original equipment parts makers (although one could argue about the grouping of some of the names) scored best with a rank of 44 and a composite score of 2.62. Three of the 28 firms in the industry, Fuel System Solutions (FSYS), Oshkosh Truck (OSK) and Wabco Holdings (WBC), hold the coveted Zacks #1 Rank, while an additional 10 have #2 ranks.

While not part of the sector, the Auto Dealers (which are included in Retail) are tied for the 48th spot with the Domestic Automakers, both with composite ranks of 2.67. Among the dealers, CarMax (KMX), Group 1 Auto (GPI) and Penske (PAG) all hold #1 ranks, while Ford (F) holds a #2 rank.

The Construction sector was also left for dead not that long ago, but it is tied for third place among the sectors. It is more of a mix by industry, but has some of the very strongest, including some very big surprises, including the Mobile Home/RV industry, which is tied for 3rd place in the rankings thanks to #1 ranks from Cavco (CVCO) and Thor (THO), both of which reported earnings that were more than twice as high as expected. Who is the RV industry tied with? Two other building related areas: Lighting Fixtures, led by LSI Industries (LYTS), and Paint, led by RPM International (RPM).

So what does this say about the economy? Mostly good things. It says that the stimulus is working and helping out some of the most depressed sectors. Also that these sorts of durable goods-type firms are among the ones seeing the greatest productivity gains (productivity in durable goods rose at over 20% in the third quarter), and those gains are translating into gains at the bottom line.

Over the long term, I have some doubts about the sustainability of such a move, given the need for the consumer to tighten their belts and save more. However, the bar got set extremely low and it was an easy hurdle to clear. Easy money and low interest rates mean that not only were they able to survive, at least for the short term — they look like they will be able to thrive.

Disclosure: Officers, directors and/or employees of Zacks Investment Research may own or have sold short securities and/or hold long and/or short positions in options that are mentioned in this material. An affiliated investment advisory firm may own or have sold short securities and/or hold long and/or short positions in options that are mentioned in this material.

http://ul.to/sdvgac (9MB)

Instalasi
1. jalankan

konsole

dan ketik perintah:

rpm -ivh opera-10.01.gcc4.shared.qt3.i386.rpm

Running Opera 10.01
a. Jalankan Opera 10.01 dengan Menu –> Internet –> Opera, atau
b. Run Command ketik opera

People said dont judge a book by it’s cover. Right? Same here with me. Dont judge a car by the CC.

Okay, ceritanya macam ni….

Masa aku on the way balik sekolah td, seperti biasa aku menggunakan Hiway Plus untuk balik. Masa aku baru lepas kawasan hospital Seberang Jaya depan aku ada sebijik Waja modified. But, elok je aku potong dia terus cucuk belakang aku dgn rapatnya. Aku pun tak mau la reputasi aku jatuh. So, aku terus tekan pedal minyak sampai rapat. Tapi pick up rasa mcm tak berapa best la plak. Terus aku drop gear dari 5 kepada 4. Mengaum enjin Iswara 1.3 aku. Memang agak cil*k*k skit hari ni. Selalu tak pernah ada orang cucuk belakang aku klw aku overtake pun. Nampaknya mamat ni tak puas hati. RPM aku mencecah 6000 dgn speed menunjukkan 150 km/j. Tak pernah lagi aku bawak gaya macam ni. Selalu aku tekan 140 km/j pun pada gear 5. Kiranya speed at top gear la… Tapi hari ni aku memecut guna gear 4 je. Memang sial la. Laju je petrol aku habis hari ni. Huhuhu. But, at least aku rasa kemenangan la. Dia tak dapat potong aku sampai la tol Sg. Dua. Aku tambah nilai Touch n Go dan dia guna lorong tunai. Aku rasa bangga kerana aku berjaya mengalahkan Waja modified. Hahaha… Konon2 gaya macam Evo. Tp leh nk overtake Iswara 1.3 standard. Diulangi, Iswara 1.3 standard. Hehehe…

1 tbsp peanut butter

1 tbsp marshmallow fluff

mini chocolate chips

splash almond milk

Fluff makes everything taste better, no?

Lunch was the usual fare, but with some delicious additions. Pita with tofu spread, red pepper, tomatoes and romaine. Bah! Tofu spread is so good!

And super juicy honeycrisp.

Then after work it was the special Sunday spin class!! It was a-to-the-awesome. As I mentioned yesterday, spin classes are only 60 minutes long throughout the week. Today’s class was a special 75-minute weekend one. We had three instructors, and my favourite tunes. My legs were kinda dragging, but I still pushed it, burning 600 calories in the process They hinted at a possible 90-minute class in the future. I’m so there.

My day had been low in protein, so I took care of that after spin with a delicious snack.

1/2 cup plain yogurt mixed with one scoop chocolate whey powder. Topped with some chocolate & yogurt chips and coconut.

May-jah yums!!! I don’t know why I don’t have the protein powder/yogurt combo more often. It was perfection.

Come dinner time, I was feeling really indecisive. Mostly because all I wanted was breakfast food! So that’s what I went with

I like to think this is the Sunday morning meal I missed while at work

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup cottage cheese

1/2 cup egg whites

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tbsp ground flax

I dipped it in 1/4 cup fake syrup whisked with 2 tsp almond butter. Totally hit the spot!

November Goals

It’s Sunday! Time to check in on those monthly goals

Spend less on groceries.
Thanks to my mom treating me to Costco and leftovers this week! I think all I bought were cottage cheese and laughing cow (essentials!)

Have fun workouts.
Definitely had a blast working out this week!

Monday – Quite possibly the most fun exercise class there is – step!!

Tuesday - A weight lifting and HIIT extravaganza. It hurt so good.

Wednesday – A fun and sweaty treadmill speed session and abs with my mom.

Thursday - Rest day

Friday – Early morning spin class. Only morning I look forward to my alarm going off.

Saturday - 4-mile trail run on a gorgeous crisp and sunny afternoon.

Sunday - Special afternoon 75-minute spin class at my gym!!!

Be less complacent with food.
I actually surprised myself with this one. As soon as I made the decision to eat with a purpose, my munching dropped drastically. Especially during my visit home this past week, which usually consists of many handfuls of Honey Nut Cheerios. Still working on the serving size complacency, which I’ll probably end up discussing in a future post this week.

Get more sleep.
I set a record this week by getting 8 hours of sleep three nights in a row!! Amazing! Part of it was that I made sure I was in bed really early on those nights (can’t say the same for the other four nights this week).

However, I think it’s also because I’ve been eating a snack immediately before bedtime. It’s no secret I’m a voracious hunger beast when I wake up in the mornings, and I think my morning hunger may be contributing to my early rising. With the night-time snack, I’m sleeping deeper, and longer into the morning. The "not eating two hours before bedtime" thing used to work for me. But let’s face it, my tummy has never slept while the rest of me has my entire life. Even as a child, I would jump out of bed and immediately stuff four toaster waffles down my throat. I think that’s only increased now that I’m more active and have purposely set my metabolism into overdrive.

Make it through the last month of work with a positive attitude.
Damn. I’m sucking at this one. Ever since I gave notice, I’ve been looking forward to it less and less.

Try my best to not let anything hold me back.
Nothing holding me back yet!

Figure out a way to get into the holiday season.
I’ve so far been able to successfully avoid all things Christmas. I suspect this will get harder as the month goes on…

Spend more time with my grandparents.
Check!! Got to see my Nana this week! I would like to see my other two grandparents soon though. They’re an hour drive away.

Be more honest with people.
I’m not doing very well with this. Mostly in that people at work keep telling me about these other news and radio jobs I should look into, and I don’t have the heart to tell them that’s not what I want to do. I don’t want them thinking I don’t value my time spent there, because I do.

Look for a job.
Still looking! I’ve been relying on job postings too much though, I have to start sending resumes to places that aren’t advertised as hiring. That’s how I got many of my jobs in the past…

Start playing music again.
I played my guitar for 10 minutes this week. Mostly because after that, my fingers started to hurt and I started losing my voice. I’m out of practice. H-core.

Question of the day: How are you doing with your goals?

Oh, and thanks for the feedback on the comment replies. I think I’ll just start replying to the blog from the e-mail notifications and paste your e-mail address in there too so you know I’ve replied

Have a great start to you week!

Kemaren saya mencoba untuk menginstall gem ‘mysql’. Ternyata banya sekali error yang say

Kemaren saya mencoba untuk menginstall gem ‘mysql’. Ternyata banya sekali error yang saya dapatkan. Saya biasanya menginstall gem mysql dengan perintah

sudo gem install mysql

Dan jika terjadi error saya biasanya menambahkan opsi mysql_config

sugo gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-config=/usr/bin/mysql_config

Dimana lokasi mysql_config biasanya dapat dicari dengan perintah

which mysql_config

Dan jika belum ketemu dapat disearch dengan

sudo find / -name 'mysql_config'

sudo yum install 'mysql-devel'

Tapi entah kenapa perintah tersebut selalu berakhir dengan “Nothing To do”.

$ rpm -qa | grep -i mysql
mysql-5.0.67-2eapps
perl-DBD-MySQL-4.006-1.1eapps
mysql_passwd-0.9-2eapps
mysql-libs-5.0.67-2eapps
php-mysql-5.2.6-2eapps
mysql-server-5.0.67-2eapps

$ sudo rpm -e mysql-5.0.67-2eapps mysql_passwd-0.9-2eapps mysql-libs-5.0.67-2eapps php-mysql-5.2.6-2eapps mysql-server-5.0.67-2eapps phpmyadmin-2.11.9.2-1eapps.noarch

$ sudo rpm -hUv http://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/centos/5/os/i386/CentOS/mysql-5.0.77-3.el5.i386.rpm http://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/centos/5/os/i386/CentOS/mysql-bench-5.0.77-3.el5.i386.rpm http://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/centos/5/os/i386/CentOS/mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.26r1127-1.el5.i386.rpm http://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/centos/5/os/i386/CentOS/mysql-devel-5.0.77-3.el5.i386.rpm http://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/centos/5/os/i386/CentOS/mysql-server-5.0.77-3.el5.i386.rpm http://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/centos/5/os/i386/CentOS/mysql-test-5.0.77-3.el5.i386.rpm

Akhirnya Mysql server berhasil di install ulang.
Berikutnya saya coba install mysql gem, dah alhamdulillah berhasil

sudo gem install mysql

Hi everyone! Thank you sooo much for all the kind comments on my last post regarding my car accident

Hi everyone! Thank you sooo much for all the kind comments on my last post regarding my car accident. I try not to ramble like that too much on my blog, but when I sat down to write, I just ended up regurgitating all those feelings! Luckily, my car is barely scratched, there’s just a huge dent in the Mazda I backed into. The owner stopped by last night and he is super nice. He said he was just glad I left my phone number!

I also want to add that I loved reading all the little things that brought you joy today and yesterday! I’d say that is one of my most asked question-of-the-days, and with reason! They all bring me a little bit of joy too

You know what brought me my daily joy today? Spin class! I was up and at ‘em at 5:30 to make it to my 6am RPM class. Totally worth getting out of bed for. Hands down, my favourite part of the class is our final song which is always a “mountain climb.” I’m always wiped by that point in the class, and the 7-ish minute song has increasing intensity throughout. Just as I feel like I’m going to die, our instructor yells at us to dig deep and sprint the last 30 seconds. I always give it everything I have and finish the class feeling a huge sense of satisfaction

The second I hopped off my spin bike, all I could think about were the PB&J oats I planned on making the second I burst through my door.

3/4 cup rolled oats

2 cups water

1/2 scoop vanilla whey powder

cinnamon

peanut butter

blackberry jam

I “sandwiched” half the PB&J in the center again.

Kinda like an oatmeal sandwich Yum!

Packed an old-school turkey sandwich for lunch today.

Roast turkey meat, mayo, mustard, pepper, onion, tomato and lettuce. It’s an “old standby” for a reason – delicious!

And what’s a day in Susan World without an apple?

I’ve been enjoying the local McIntosh apples lately. Strange, because I never used to like them. They’re a really soft apple, and I typically like crisp and crunchy. Oh well, I’ve got a bag of honeycrisp in the fridge that are now calling my name

I felt like “dipping” for dinner, so I threw together a snacky-type meal.

Pita bread, mushrooms, carrots, bell pepper.

Sabra hummus, the last of mom’s taco dip and salsa.

There was a lot of cross-dippage going on.

I couldn’t finish it all, buuuuut I did have room for some Halloween candy I snuck back from my mom’s

Is it true Oh Henry! bars are only available in Canada?

These, along with Reese’s and Mr. Big are probably my favourite chocolate bars.

Okay, I just love anything with chocolate and peanuts. Or, in this case, chocolate, peanuts, caramel and fudge.

Now it’s time for Flashback Friday!! Yayyyyy!

If you recall, I made it one of my November Goals to start playing guitar again. If you can believe it, I haven’t touched the thing in seven months. I believe that’s some sort of record for me. My parents put me in piano lessons when I was five years old, which I did up until the age of 12. I hated them at the time, but in retrospect will admit they were very valuable.

I got my first electric guitar (a gorgeous navy blue Squire Strat) for my 14th birthday and taught myself how to play on that. During high school, I played in a handful of punk rock bands, including an all-girls band called The Brats and another called The Dickie Dees.

I was surprised one Christmas in high school with a Seagull acoustic. It’s a beautiful guitar, with a very unique sound. I then fell in love with all things acoustic. I started teaching myself to play harmonica, drums and even took voice lessons. I used to play a lot, just me and my acoustic, in various coffee shops around town. It was always incredibly nerve wracking for me, but I always got good feedback from people which was encouraging.

I met two musicians in my university’s journalism program who sort of adopted me into their music group. First, we formed a band called the Billygoat Collective (lead guy was named Billy). I played bass and had a blast doing it. I loved being the bass chick in the band, and I think I fit the laid-back bassist attitude to a tee

Then we got a few more members, including a saxophonist, and became The Station Agents. I took on the role as keyboardist and we recorded an album last winter.

Me and my fellow J-Schoolers continued to play as an acoustic trio. You can watch us doing a White Stripes cover in bad sound and video quality here.

Awww, that was a fun trip down musical memory lane! Think I’ll go pick up my guitar right now and play a song before I go to bed. It used to be such a wonderful outlet for me. I think it’s time I start using it as creative therapy again

Question of the day: Do you play any instruments?
