So, I was watching the UC/Illinois game today when the Bottom Line on ESPN showed some breaking news

So, I was watching the UC/Illinois game today when the Bottom Line on ESPN showed some breaking news about Tiger Woods being involved in a car accident. The original report was that Tiger was in a wreck, in serious condition and taken to the hospital. As most of my friends know me as a Tiger fan, I received no less than ten text messages about the accident. Naturally, I went to our generations source for news: Google. I read every story that came up under the first page of a Google search of “tiger woods car wreck.” Most of the outlets had the same thing to report. Tiger was in a wreck outside his home, backing out of his driveway. He hit a fire hydrant, then a tree in a neighbors yard and was taken to a local Orlando hospital for facial lacerations. The Online Wire reported that there was a rumor about how the whole thing happened:

Rumors are coming out that Tiger Woods possibly had his arm hanging out the driver side window when he collided with the fire hydrant. Then, according to these unsubstantiated rumors, he may have hit the gas on accident while in pain from smashing his arm. Once again, these car crash rumors are definitely not confirmed.

Following further reporting and actual journalism, the Huffington Post came out with a story, some updates and other shit that actually shed some light on the entire situation, unlike other sources.

This whole thing is being completely thrown out of whack, IMO.

Tiger has 2 young kids, Sam and Charlie, both under the age of 3, but one of my favorite writers, Jason Whitlock, tweeted something that apparently everyone was thinking?

The National Enquirer story he is talking about is this one about some publicity whore claiming an affair with Tiger. She’s the same lady who earlier claimed having an affair with some dude from the show Bones that my girlfriend is in love with. Think about it though. Like I said, they have 2 kids under the age of 3. What I know is, according to my mother, small kids need shit in the middle of the night. Maybe he’s going to the store to get something. I haven’t seen that written anywhere. Tiger has never been anyone to be public about his personal life, so the likelihood of anyone finding out the exact reason why he left is very, very slim. Someone’s saying that him and Elin were fighting before he left. So, he decided to go find some skank to stick his nine iron in? Not likely. He’s a Nicklaus man. Family first. Earl wouldn’t have it any other way. Yet people demand to make this a huge deal. I don’t get it. Let the story develop, speculation is worthless. And really, cheat on Elin? Not up in here.

People fight. He needs some space. He goes for a drive, throws in some Eminem, nothing wrong with that. I do it all the time. There is not many things better than driving around and clearing your head.

Tiger is a family man.

Give him the benefit of the doubt. What has he done to disprove that?

Things I know:

-This quarterback has no sense of urgency. There must have been some problems with the play call because that QB was standing waiting for the running back to take it, but instead got JACKED UP!

That’s funny.

And finally, to end this piss-poor, half-ass post, here is Latarian Milton. His friend smokes real cigarettes and he likes to do hoodrat things with his friends.

As I start this post, it is 3:23 in the morning. Now 3:24. My girlfriend is in bed sleeping and I am watching one of my favorite movies of all time, Finding Forrester. I love this movie. It combines two of my favorite themes of all time: writing and basketball. I’ve always wanted to meet someone like Jamal Wallace to tell me the history of BMW.

I get most of my writing advice from this movie and it kinda is true. I’m in a thoughtful mood, so bear with me if you could. Ever since I saw this movie for the first time on an airplane to Arizona, I have just started thinking this way about my writing, however good or bad that may be. “No thinking, that comes later. You write your first draft with your heart, and you rewrite with your head. The first key to writing is to write, not think.”

It’s easy to do, makes sense and you just let it go. Sean Connery plays Wiliam Forrester, a hermit-ish kind of guy who wrote a “great 20th century novel,” but afterward fell off the writing map and lives in seclusion in a ghetto part of Bronx, New York. You’ve all seen the movie, and if you haven’t you should, so I won’t bore you with a plot analysis. I really don’t have much to say, but watching this movie, or Californication or Good Will Hunting or some other kind of bull shit that is meant to be a feel-good, inspirational thing that can incorporate things that interest me, namely writing or narcissism, always make me want to be proactive and do something worthwhile, so I come to the blog because it’s my outlet for the 5-10 hits I get a day. But it’s late and I should get some sleep sometime. I guess that’s all for today. Enjoy your Who Dey Sunday. Night y’all.

Cheers.

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and U.S. Congressman Dave Camp (R-MI) announced the Solar Manufacturing Jobs Creation Act last week. The bi-partisan legislation will offer a tax credit to support solar manufacturing in the U.S. These tax incentives are designed to encourage U.S. companies to produce solar equipment, create green jobs and invest in a domestic clean energy economy. Senator Stabenow joined fellow Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) to introduce the legislation in the Senate. In addition, Congressman Camp will be introducing related legislation in the House later this month. The Solar Manufacturing bill will provide additional tax credits for solar equipment manufacturers that will help the U.S. compete in the global clean energy race with countries such as China, South Korea and Taiwan.

Currently, the United States is falling behind in the global market for solar technology, as other countries provide incentives to invest in solar manufacturing. According to the Solar Energy Industry Association, the U.S. produced more than 40 percent of the world’s solar photovoltaic (PV) cells a decade ago. In 2008, the U.S. produced only 5 percent of the world’s solar cells. As a result, U.S. Congressman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) authored the Solar Technology Roadmap Act, which is designed to support domestic research and development (R&D) and manufacturing.

Currently, a 30 percent federal Solar Investment Tax Credit (SITC) exists for the investment in or installation of solar power technology, which was extended in the Recovery Act. Under the Solar Manufacturing Jobs Creation Act, equipment and facilities used to manufacture solar power technology would be included in the property list for the SITC. These technologies include solar cells, silicon, evacuated tubes, and flat-plate solar collectors. It has been estimated that the tax credits in this legislation will generate 315,000 new domestic green jobs.

Although China produces over 30 percent of the world’s solar photovoltaics, installed PV in China only reached a total of 140 (megawatts) MW in 2008, according to the state-owned newspaper, China Daily, accounting for less than 1 percent of the global market share. Today, however, solar PV is starting to increase its share in China’s energy portfolio due to favorable government support, decreasing solar power generation costs, and rising demand in response to emerging regulations ongreenhouse gas emissions. In fact, China recently revised its 2020 target for solar power capacity from 1.8 gigawatts (GW) to 20 GW, according to a recent report by Beijing’s state-own China Daily.

In order to promote the Chinese solar market, the Government has enacted several policies to support the expanding industry, including a regional feed-in tariff (FIT) and national subsidies for solar PV installations, as similar policies in Germany and Spain facilitated their world leadership with respect to deployment in recent years.

These policies have had an impact in East China’s Jiangsu province, which is home to more than 160 Chinese PV manufacturers, including Suntech and Trina Solar. In June, the Jiangsu government approved a feed-in tariff program. As a result, the price offered for each kWh of electricity from PV solar farms, rooftop projects and building integrated photovoltaics projects built this year is US $0.31, $0.54 and $0.63, respectively, which nearly covers project costs, according to Renewable Energy World. Several leading PV manufacturers such as Suntech and Trina Solar have pursued the opportunity and developed 80-MW and 30-MW rooftop PV facilities, respectively. However, state solar incentives and expanding renewable energy portfolio standards are attracting foreign companies to manufacture solar products in the U.S as well. For instance, Suntech, who exhibited its solar products at the recent International Greenbuild Expo in Phoenix, Arizona recently announced it will build a solar panel plant in this area in response to the state’s new solar tax credit.

The Beijing-based China Electricity Power Research Institution has stated that China would fail to meet 6.4 percent of the country’s electricity demand in 2010 and 10.7 percent in 2020. Thus, solar PV is considered a vital source to cover the missing resources.

But as the U.S. remains slow to act in setting a national renewable energy portfolio standardcompared to other major countries or a cap-and-trade system to stimulate sufficient demand for solar and other forms of clean energy across the country, many domestic solar cell manufacturers recognize the increasing demand in China. For example, Evergreen Solar recently announced it will be outsourcing its solar panel assembly manufacturing line in Devens, Massachusetts to China. This statement was made years after it received $58 million in state aid and being lauded by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick as a symbol of the state’s economic future. The announcement came as the company announced that it lost $167 million in the first nine months of this year. Approximately half of the 577 full-time and 230 contract employees at the Devens factory involved in panel assembly are expected to be laid off. Thus, this issue only strengthens the need for detailed national and state legislation without loopholes allowing companies to capitalize on incentives without making a long-term investment.

In order to deal with similar situations and to institute a balanced U.S.-China trade partnership, U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao announced a comprehensive clean energy agreement between the two countries during their joint talks this week. The two Presidents revealed several new programs including a new U.S.-China Renewable Energy Partnership. Under the Partnership, the two countries will develop roadmaps for large-scale renewable energy deployment in both countries. The Partnership will also provide technical and analytical resources to states and regions in both countries to support renewable energy installations and will facilitate state-to-state and region-to-region collaborations to share experience and best practices. A new Advanced Grid Working Group will bridge U.S. and Chinese policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and civil society to initiate strategies for grid modernization in both countries. A new U.S.-China Renewable Energy Forum will be held annually as well.

In addition, the two presidents announced the creation of a new U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center. The Center will facilitate collaborative R&D in clean energy technologies by teams of scientists and engineers from the U.S. and China. Furthermore, this Center will be supported by public and private funding of at least $150 million over five years and be split equally between the two countries. Initial research priorities will be focused on building energy efficiency, clean coal including carbon capture and storage, and clean vehicle technology using advanced batteries and biofuels.

Similarly, a U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) will be established. This particular program will capitalize on private sector resources for project development work in China across a wide spectrum of clean energy projects, to the advancement of both nations. More than 22 companies are already listed as founding members of the program. The ECP will include collaborative projects on renewable energy, smart grid, clean transportation, green building, clean coal, combined heat and power, and energy efficiency.

Overall, the new U.S.-China partnership coupled with the Solar Manufacturing Jobs Creation Act will enhance America’s competitiveness in the clean energy race- not to become simply be a consumer of renewables to meet emissions standards, but a producer as well.

So today is the Thursday before the (not so)big Michigan game up at Ohio State, which means the dumbass tradition of jumping into a freezing lake will add another year to its tenure.

I have never been one for the jump into Mirror Lake, primarily because I hate OSU with the exception of my buddy Mac, but also because I don’t see the point. For my experience, most of my friends think they went to jump in the lake, but can’t really piece it all together because of alcohol-induced memory loss, so why bother? And it’s Michigan. Who gives a shit? They are 5-6. The point of this whole babble is this story from the Columbus Dispatch today with one of the best ledes I’ve seen in a while…

During the big Michigan Week jump, Ohio State University’s Mirror Lake and a baby pool have a lot in common.

I’m sure you know where this is going. The College of Earth Sciences at OSU decided to do a little research. They tested the water in the lake before and after for temperature as well as ammonia. Yes, ammonia, like exits the body in the form of urine. Guess what the good people from Columbus found?

“Interesting results from last year’s study include a lake-wide temperature increase of approximately 3 degrees Fahrenheit during the course of the night and an ammonia spike around 1in the morning,” said Steve Goldsmith, a postdoctoral research associate.

The temperature increase could be chalked up to warm-blooded people standing in a cold lake, Goldsmith said. But, yes, that ammonia spike means exactly what you think it means.

Urine.

Enjoy the jump tonight, pee pants.

-An interesting little tidbit from Golf.com’s blog, the Press Tent on what they call Tiger’s Superstar Effect. One take was that players pretty much decide that they have no chance to win when Tiger’s in the field. Here’s the first take…

Despite the individualistic nature of the sport, the presence of Woods in the tournament had a powerful effect. Interestingly, Brown found that playing against Woods resulted in significantly decreased performance. When the superstar entered a tournament, every other golfer took, on average, 0.8 more strokes. This effect was even more pronounced when Woods was playing well. Based on this data, Brown calculated that the superstar effect boosted Woods’ PGA earnings by nearly five million dollars

And the complete opposite view..

I’d argue that the superstar effect has more to do with “paralysis by analysis” than with decreased motivation. I’d bet that playing with Tiger Woods makes golfers extra self-conscious, and that such self-consciousness leads to choking and decreased performance. The problem, then, isn’t that golfers aren’t trying hard enough when playing against Tiger — it’s that they’re trying too hard.

YE Yang subscribes to the second idea of thinking, saying that when great players play against T. Woods, they try to hard to beat him 1 v 1 and end up wearing themselves out. He said he’s not that good, “below average” compared to the other players on Tour and he just played his own game. Worked out well for Yang, but he got a little help from Eldrick. Anyhow, an interesting take.

-Back on the Bengals beat, my boy 1-5 was back in the locker room for the first time since he broke his arm a couple weeks back. He’ll be in his cast for 10 weeks effectively putting him into free agency. The good news, he wants to be in Cincinnati for the rest of his career, which means I won’t need a new jersey for a long, long time. Now we need Mikey Boy to pay the man.

“This is the team that brought me in and stuck with me. I pretty much want to finish my career here and get something done when the time comes.”

-A lot has been made about the ROC in the building, some good, some bad. But what about poor Ced. He’s not “jumping out of his seat about it.” We don’t wanna make Ceddy mad, hopefully he doesn’t go back to the bottle after feeling like he got snubbed.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Ced, I just hate the move to bring in LJ. Why not Dede Dorsey? Why compromise our sensitive number 1 by bringing in @ToonIcon? I just hope Ced is good to go and shits all over LJ.

-The biggest story from yesterday’s World Cup Qualifiers was France cheating its way to South Africa via Thierry Henry’s hand-ball.

‘I will be honest, it was a handball,’ said former Arsenal striker Henry, ‘but I’m not the ref. It would have been better to do it in another way, but as I said, I’m not the ref.’

Here’s the video…

The Irish are appealing to FIFA for a replay now. That’s shitty. I still stand by my idea of pulling a Zach Kummer and tearing my ACL in early June 2010 so I can sit home and watch the World Cup. We’ll see how it goes.

-Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame is going to be on a Simpson’s episode next year ripping on Twilight, which is awesome because those movies blow.

But this is still my favorite Twilight Spoof. Twilighticus Suckus.

-Finally, I can’t believe I haven’t talked about one of my new favorite TV shows, The League, on FX. It’s quality. The Cincinnati Man sums it up better than I, so I point you in that direction. But here’s a good video from the first episode. RPS says check it out tonight. 10:30 after It’s Always Sunny.

Tonight at midnight is my buddy BJPete’s 22nd. Wish him a happy one. He’s too cute not to.

Cheers.

Larry Johnson is officially a Bengal today, getting signed for the veteran league minimum. Is anyone

Larry Johnson is officially a Bengal today, getting signed for the veteran league minimum. Is anyone other than me not exactly ecstatic about this turn of events? I said yesterday that what this team, first place in their division with the inside track for home field advantage in the playoffs, doesn’t need a woman beating, homophobic, washed up, fantasy bust. The man is nearly 30, and will be on Thursday, and he wears his hat like a dumbass and wears a HelloKitty watch.

I don’t really think the Twitter thing was really that big of a deal. Sure, he ripped his coach for not having experience, but he was right on that point. Then LJ got creative. Here’s the breakdown. The Roc said something about how the Chiefs coach has no NFL experience, but his dad does because he played for the Washington Redskins for a little bit and played for the coach from Remember the Titans. (LJ’s Twitter name is @ToonIcon, maybe it has something to do with his HelloKitty fetish.) Anyway some other guy made a comment about how our new RB spit in a woman’s face and LJ went off about how he is “cakn.”

For whatever it means, Christopher Street is a street in NY that is famous for its involvement in the gay rights movement, so that was mildly clever. But long story short, now he’s a part of the Who Deys and while he is sorry for what he did, he’s not that sorry.

“I’ve got to be me,” he said. “I’m not going to be a bad person, but I’m going to be me and enjoy this environment.”

Super. I guess we get to see first-hand how this plays out.

-I hate Kentucky. I liked John Calipari, even though he cheats everywhere he goes and leaves programs in shambles of probation after he leaves. Now I can’t. I blame it on this guy, because he is the stereotypical UK fan that I despise. Kige Ramsey breaks down some of his basketball pet peeves while simultaneously sounding like Noah Chang, just dumber…

His philosophy is inside-out, so you have to kick in into the perimeter? Really Kige? And those refs in the Vanderbilt game? Are you kidding me? Shut the fuck up, Kige.

That’s all for today. Smell ya.

Hello friends and countrymen, I have returned. Yes I know, it’s been a while, but you, loyal readers, have not been out of my mind. I have been hoarding links, story ideas and awesome videos and pictures over the past week, but just haven’t taken the time to put the pen to the pad, as they say. A lot to talk about this week, so let’s just dive right in, shall we?

-Great football weekend for Cincinnati. Friday: Cats – W. Saturday: Panthers W. Rah. Sunday: Who Deys. Big W. Chronological order.

-Friday with the Bearcats was mediocre. Not because my cousin was out of control drunk before the game started and couldn’t button his pants, but because the Bearcats didn’t look like the dominant offense that is their staple. Much has been made of BK’s quarterback controversy, but to me at least, the way he used his two signal callers was troublesome, if only from a consistency standpoint. T. Pike comes in after Z. Callaros drives the team down the field to take the fantasy points. Everything just seemed discombobulated, guys. Luckily, WVU got Pead on to the tune of 175 yards and a TD. Anyway, they got the victory, which kept them somewhat relevant in the BCS Championship race, only if the highly improbable Texas stumble. More importantly, they control their own destiny in the Big East. They get a week off, which is again, a good thing. Up next, in two weeks, is a ginormous match-up with Pitt. Is it possible that the Big East has the best team in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. Ha. Suck it, Big 10(11).

-Not much to report from the Elder camp, but we beat the Bombers 17-14. Tough break for @jcoff33, but T. O’Conner is back and the Panthers are on the prowl. Just a gentle reminder, I’m on Twitter now. Why? because I can. Follow me bros.

-Sunday. Ah Who Dey Sunday. The day started waking up on the futon of my buddy @bjpete33 after a roomie sleepover where we watched my favorite Christmas movie, The Santa ClausE with Tim Allen. 8:30am – McDonald’s breakfast run. Heavenly. 9:17am – First game of speedball, not slowball, Stink. 1:05pm – Kickoff. 4:00ish – Big victory. Red Brick. Guinness mega mug. Now, allow me to break down the game. Carson wasn’t on point, but the Bengals are deep. Ced goes down, B. Scott steps up. A good victory. Gregg Doyle called it “out Steelering the Steelers.” That’s fun. Plus, we have the best helmets in the NFL.

More insight to come later this week as I procrastinate studying for exams. One bit of advice though, we don’t need fucking Larry Johnson. Marvin says he will just fill a 4th string RB role. I guess 4th string running backs are hard to come by this year because as far as I see, we’re rolling right now and we don’t need a homophobic, woman beater coming in and messing with our chemistry. That’s just me.

-This weekend was awesome, not only because of the football aspect, but Tiger was in Australia on a 16 hour time delay, putting him on my television from 10pm to 1am all weekend. Let me tell you, it was extremely enjoyable to end my night watching T. Woods dominate the Kangaroo lovers. And plus, he got that gold jacket Chubs never got.

Now on to the stuff I came across this week that I deemed good enough to share with you fine folks…

-First, from the world of college soccer, and finally it’s not crazy bitches pulling hair. It’s some friendly taunting from the men.

-Some of my roommates and friends up here at OU are in Phi Kappa Tau, the fraternity. Apparently their bros down South think this is still 1864.

-I’m not a huge Bill Simmons guy, but I feel like I’ve kinda adopted his sports reporting style in doing this blog. It’s interesting to me at least, to think about where sports journalism is going in the next few years. Pretty much because it’s how I plan to support myself for the rest of my life. Anyhoo, here’s a NY Times story about the Sports Guy’s method for writing and a promo for his new book. I enjoyed it. You probably won’t, but you came to this site of your own accord, so you don’t have to read it if you don’t wanna.

-It’s basketball season. Went over to 10 N. High to watch the Dukies with fellow fan @jcoff33 and a lovely family dinner made by same Twitter name. UC had some trouble putting away Prairie View A&M. I got a text from my buddy Mart Man after the game and I’m with him. “The first ones always the hardest.” We’ll stick with his thinking. I don’t need any negativity, I’m an idea man.

-MNF blows tonight. I’m glad I don’t live in Cleveland. Plus, I love Chick-fil-A and I’m anxiously awaiting their arrival on Glenway Avenue. This makes me like them even more.

-To close, I guess my staple has been cute kids at the end of each post. Big T called it the “unintentional bicycle,” but she’s cute. I’m assuming the dickhole who came over and said thanks and gave the kid a five at the end is the opposing coach. Ass.

That’s all for today. Maybe I’ll blog tomorrow too, who knows. Smell ya.

Cheers.

While investment capital seeks to exploit stimulus package programs for renewable energy projects, i

While investment capital seeks to exploit stimulus package programs for renewable energy projects, investors may want to consider the greenest form of energy out there—the megawatt no one uses, what’s known as a white credit.

“It’s much cheaper to save a unit of energy than to produce a unit of energy cheaply,” says Jeremy Panacheril, US director of global accounting and advisory firm KPMG’s cleantech group.

Energy efficiency hasn’t attracted as much attention as other green initiatives like carbon emissions reduction or the development of renewable energy, but various state governments and Congress are working on creating a new credit to measure this saved energy—the energy efficiency certificate (EEC) or white credit.

Twelve states have well-established energy efficiency portfolio standards, EEPS, or mandates, requiring investor-owned utilities to meet a certain percentage of their projected power needs through energy efficiency. Another six states are considering EEPS legislation, and current climate change bills before Congress also call for a national EEPS.

“We see room for a new type of asset,” says Jon Naimon, managing director of Seattle-based Light Green Advisors, an asset management firm working at finding a way for investors to take advantage of energy efficiency opportunities.

He adds the benefits for utilities—or for companies in sectors like real estate, where existing buildings could benefit from energy efficiency retrofits—are more tangible than efforts to generate carbon credits.

“It has tons more upside, since (efficiency) also goes to your cash flow,” he says, pointing out that energy costs can be significantly higher in older buildings.

With a white-credit incentive, a firm could save money from reduced energy use, and make additional revenue from selling EECs to a utility or other regulated entity.

An EEC market would look less like proposed carbon credit markets, and more like the trading of credits created by states’ renewable portfolio standards, RPS, regulations that began springing up in 1999, and that have now been adopted by 29 states and the District of Columbia.

These RPS regulations mandate that a certain percentage of electricity used in the state must come from renewable energy sources. To prove compliance with the regulation, eligible green power generates a credit for the utility, called a renewable energy certificate, REC.

Each REC equals one megawatt-hour of generated green energy. EEPS would set similar targets for efficiency, with an EEC equaling one megawatt-hour of saved energy.

Despite looking like carbon’s cap-and-trade system, it will be tough for individual or institutional investors to access these credits as a commodity, either directly or via futures.

“It’s probably a fairy tale right now,” says Alden Hathaway, senior vice president for business development at Sterling Planet, about the potential of widespread trading of EECs. His firm measures and certifies that generated EECs comply with regulations.

But the real benefit for investors may be in firms that improve their bottom line through the energy savings that generate EECs, and in the companies making, marketing and installing the technologies to generate those energy savings.

“What doesn’t exist is a way to invest (directly) in energy efficiency,” says Light Green’s Naimon, who adds that the $1 billion potential EEC market pales in comparison to the estimated $2 trillion of the carbon market, and to the billions already invested in renewable energy technologies, like solar.

He says one approach might to be create discrete efficiency projects. These would work like carbon offset projects and would create EECs in unregulated industries that firms in regulated sectors could buy. The project owner or developer would generate cash flow savings by conserving energy.

“White credits are a rounding error,” says Naimon.

He also sees EECs as a tool to provide transparency into a company’s energy liabilities, eventually providing the basis for a buyer of that company’s assets or products to pay a premium for an energy efficient asset, or a discount for an inefficient one.

For example, what if a buyer of a commercial building was given a 12-month energy audit for the building, in addition to a typical physical building inspection report that would go with a transaction like this?

EECs generated by the building’s current owners would provide a paper trail to the building’s efficiency; a lack of them would show a potential liability that could drag on return on equity.

Investors already confronting a bewildering array of green credits that seem to measure common environmental attributes—carbon, RECs and EECs—could be forgiven for being baffled. But they need to recognize these credits markets as proof that corporations generating such credits are serious about potential changes in their bottom line.

Lars Kvale, manager of renewable energy infrastructure at Santa Clara-based energy services firm APX Inc., says an energy efficiency market may level the playing field across state lines more than a national carbon market would.

For example, he says it would allow a state with potentially high-cost renewable energy to find a better way to reward an otherwise polluting utility’s efforts to clean up.

“It’s one of the way to get states that don’t have (green) resources to reduce some of their dirty power,” he says, a big issue in the southeast, where the bulk of states without RPS are found and where wind, solar, geothermal and hydropower renewable energy sources make less economic sense.

“The reason for a tradable market [in credits] is to get the cheapest reductions,” says Kvale, adding that, depending on the corporation involved, the cheapest approach could mean taking action to generate the credit in the first place or buying it on the secondary market.

Unlike the potential greenwashing nature of a press release about a dubious environmentally friendly initiative, owning or selling the credits should show that management has deployed shareholder equity most effectively.

“You have that certificate that shows they took the action themselves,” says Kvale.”

Type: FPS/RPG= RPS

They label it a role-playing shooter. That’s pretty much what it is. It’s a shooter first and a role-playing game second. They did a really good job, especially with co-op. With 4 players it is reminiscent of Left 4 Dead, since you can revive other players instead of having to rely on a second wind to get back up.

Difficulty: Medium-Impossible.

It’s doable by yourself, albeit boring, since that’s how I played it most. It can also be impossible to fight monsters scaled for 4 players by yourself if the other players aren’t around to help, which happens often in the crappy, laggy online games.

User-Friendly?: Yes.

This game is both user-friendly and hilarious. With aiming assist, even morons with no FPS experience can play.

Replayable?: Yes.

Play the game over again to get level 50? Sure, why the hell not? Play it with friends? Oh hell yes, let’s do it.

Opinion?: Enjoyed it.

If I manage to scrounge up some good players, this game can be played all night, and I see it as the perfect LAN game. Who wouldn’t like playing with four friends where you can constantly progress your character along with them AND you do it while playing a game similar to L4D? Win-win, my friends, win-win.

¿A qué me refiero?

Lourdes Maldonado (lulusoy)

¿Qué no me gusta?

Not since the good old days back at Elder High have I been on the Keystone bandwagon, yet as I sit watching MNF and typing up this post, I have a ‘Stone in my hand. We came to college and started drinking Naturals. Why? Keystone stuck with us all through high school, drowning the worst of times and getting us ready for Friday night games, but we abandoned the original 30 pack for a less tasty, watered-down alternative. I’m here to say, give Keystone another try. On the plus side, everyone else has stuck up their nose to ‘Stones so you don’t need to worry about anyone stealing your beer, if that’s your thing. I left a perfectly good 30 pack in our communal fridge this past weekend as I traveled back to Cincinnati only to come back to it untouched. Unheard of, around these here parts. That’s my rationalization and I’m sticking to it. On to more (de)pressing matters…

-Never have I been light in my praise for my favorite Bengal, Uno Cinco. I learned a long time ago in the hallowed halls of Our Lady of Lourdes that 1 + 5 = 6. I see him on the field, and I know where he’s going. NGL. (Check urban dictionary if you don’t know what it is, you’ll understand when you see the one that applies. Hint: It doesn’t mean “not gonna lie.”) So, you can imagine my disappointment when he made a nice play across the middle this weekend and proceeded to snap the shit out of his wrist.

What makes this so shitty is not only that he is more than likely out for the rest of the season, or that him going down eliminates the Bengals best deep threat, but One Five is in a contract year and I hate putting the future of my favorite player and jersey in the hands of this meddling buffoon.

Give that money to Chris Henry!

What makes this so shitty is not only that he is more than likely out for the rest of the season, or that him going down eliminates the Bengals best deep threat, but One Five is in a contract year and I hate putting the future of my favorite player and jersey in the hands of this meddling buffoon. Anyway, a speedy recovery to C. Henry. I’ll miss him.

-Also, how about the Bengals. All Pro Blogger John Thorton has the Bengals as the 4th best team in the league and it’s hard to argue with him. Also, if you scroll a little bit further down the page, you can see his videochat/interview with one of my favorite journalists around Cincy, C. Trent Rosecrans about his new site, CNati.com, a site I look at multiple times daily and link to often. It’s the best legitimate sports coverage in the area and in the interview CTR talks about how they are toeing the line between traditional and advancing online journalism. Sorry for the journalistic tangent, but good writing needs to be supported and pointed out.

-Speaking of CTR, both he and another of my favorite local scribes, Paul Daugherty, talked about appreciating what we have up in Clifton while we have it, scratching the worries about BK going anywhere and everywhere else. On a similar note, an advantage of using wordpress is that it shows me the search terms people use to get to my site. One I came across the other day that tickled my fancy was “zach collaros hunk.” Sure, I’ve talked about Collaros, but from what I can recollect, never in a way that would lead someone using that search to get here. Yea, I may have said something about Jesse Palmer being dreamy and maybe something about Camilo Villegas (now that I think about it, I should probably stop), but never Z. Collaros. Interesting, I guess, but what he’s done over the past three weeks is not something that should be taken lightly. For BK, with T. Pike coming back, he has a decision to make. Looks like he’s sticking with Pike, so long as he’s healthy. Still, not a bad problem to have. The BCS strife people are complaining about really isn’t that big of a deal right now. If UC can take care of business the rest of the way, they’ll leap TCU based purely on the quality of opponents, but still will be outside looking in at the National Championship barring a Texas collapse, which methinks isn’t likely.

-Tiger looked like shit Saturday night/Sunday afternoon in China. Couldn’t muster a decent showing and Phil did what he had to do to win the WGC-HSBC Champions. Good news is the Big Easy is back in shape, which is cool because he’s a good guy and helps autism tremendously, which his son has. Tiger’s back in action at the Australian Masters this week, where they’re pouring in to see him practice. We talkin’ about practice. My girl Win wraps China up for you…

-Everyone’s seen the soccer video with the chick from New Mexico taking people out and pulling hair, but another fight? What are our nation’s parents teaching their young soccer-playing daughters?

-Don’t forget, tomorrow at 7pm on ESPN2, my Ohio U. Bobcats are playing Buffalo. Athens goes worldwide.

-Finally, Doc gives you good looking women to end his posts, I give cute little babies with tattoo sleeves dressed like the Birdman.

(What am I even going to write in them?)

Right, well, I had decided to start off with canons because I thought it would be easiest to find icons for them… but then I realized WordPress isn’t as reliant on icons as livejournal is. So… whoops. That means I can make some OC journals soon, though. 8D Consider the canons practice.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today celebrated the opening of the world’s largest landfill gas to l

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today celebrated the opening of the world’s largest landfill gas to liquefied natural gas (LFG-to-LNG) facility in California, the Waste Management Altamont Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility in Livermore. The plant, put together by partners Waste Management, Linde-BOC and Gas Technology Institute, is designed to produce up to 13,000 gallons of LNG a day and is expected to reduce 30,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

“As California continues to move forward with its nation-leading policies to fight global warming, we need a diverse, dependable and environmentally sound mix of energy supplies to meet the needs of our people and our economy,” said Governor Schwarzenegger. “I am pleased to see the market responding as California continues to attract and grow more clean-tech and green-tech businesses and projects just like this LNG facility that will provide consumers with a cleaner-burning, alternative fuel source.”

The Altamont facility project is capable of creating clean vehicle fuel by collecting gas from the natural decomposition of organic landfill waste. The state helped bring this environmentally-friendly project to life with over $1 million in state funding, including a $600,000 grant from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Alternative Fuels Incentive Program, which is intended to help promote the use of new fuel sources, and $740,000 from the California Integrated Waste Management Board.

“I’m pleased to celebrate the opening of this new facility that’s quite literally turning trash into fuel, and helping us reach our environmental goals by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and creating a healthier atmosphere for all Californians,” said CARB Chair Mary Nichols, who attended the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Altamont facility today.

The Governor has a strong and proven commitment to all clean energy that will create jobs, influence national policies and create a cleaner environment for future generations. Some of the Governor’s most ambitious actions include:
· Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32): AB 32 established a first-in-the-world comprehensive program of regulatory and market mechanisms to achieve real, quantifiable, cost-effective reductions of greenhouse gas emissions. The law will reduce carbon emissions in California to 1990 levels by 2020.
· Million Solar Roofs Initiative: The Governor’s $2.9 billion incentive plan for home and building owners who install solar electric systems, now known as the California Solar Initiative, will lead to one million solar roofs in California by the year 2018, provide 3,000 megawatts of clean energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3 million tons.
· Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS): California’s LCFS requires fuel providers to reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuels sold in the state, dramatically expanding the market for alternative fuels. To start, the LCFS will reduce carbon content in all passenger vehicle fuels sold in California by at least 10 percent by 2020 and more thereafter.
· Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS): Governor Schwarzenegger signed an Executive Order directing CARB to adopt regulations increasing California’s RPS to 33 percent by 2020.
· Automobile Emissions Standards: After years of fighting the federal government for the authority to implement our greenhouse gas emissions standards for cars, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency granted California’s waiver and the Obama Administration adopted it for the country.
· Alternative and Renewable Fuels Vehicle Technology Program: In 2007, Governor Schwarzenegger signed AB 118 by Former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez which established the Alternative and Renewable Fuels Vehicle Technology Program to fund the Research and Development of new technologies.

To help meet the state’s landmark environmental goals, CARB also passed a regulation earlier this year that requires other landfills throughout the state not already capturing methane to do so by 2012, reducing 1.5 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from our atmosphere.

Governor Schwarzenegger also last week applauded Pacific Gas & Electric commitment to increase the amount of net metering for rooftop solar in its territory from 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent to ensure that solar investment continues to grow.

I’m in the middle of writing a 10-page paper for my history class that’s due tomorrow, but I came across something while looking for something about James K. Polk. Not really, I was just going off task but whatever.

Meet Noah Chang. A nice little kid who fucking loves basketball and he really hopes you will too. Watch his video, it’s funny and made me laugh. He looks…. he shoots….. and he scores. A lot. And he shits all over his little sister, and hogs the camera from his neighbor. Take a peek.

Deadspin’s highlights:

•It is physically impossible for Noah to shoot without saying “He looks…he shoots…and he scores.”
•”It’s my favorite sport. Why?” (Looks off camera for line.) “Because it’s very exciting.” (Makes layup on 6-foot basket.)
•Noah lists for us the equipment needed to play basketball. I would have thought this was obvious, but I never would have thought to include “socks.”
•He cruelly plays keep-away from his sister, for at least 30 seconds past the point of awkwardness, in the name of showing us how to dribble.
•Noah wants to show us how to dunk, but warns us that he might be unable because he’s “not so tall.” He tries anyway, and fails.
•There’s a freaking outtake reel at the end of the video!

Enjoy.

Cheers.

The Institute for Local Self Reliance based in Minneapolis, USA has just produced an interesting map

The Institute for Local Self Reliance based in Minneapolis, USA has just produced an interesting map of the United States suggesting that 31 of the 50 states can be self sufficient for electricity if using only in state, renewable resources. Only 5 states were at 30% or less. The map makes an interesting point- while not likely, or in some occasions the best, overall economic solution, it is feasible for most US States to be able to adhere to more modest renewable energy portfolio requirements. If technology continues to improve the economics in the future, this percent of renewable requirements could increase to satisfy energy loads.

Non-Americans may find this interesting as the geography of the US is almost as varied as that of the world. The map also suggests that some areas are renewable resource poor, and will need alternative plans if they intend to clean up generation. See the link to read about the study and its assumptions.

I really don’t know what to title my posts on this blog. It would be a lot easier if I did something like Daugherty or C. Trent and had a easy, repetitive title when the only thing I need to change is the date. So if anyone has any clever ideas for mine like The Morning Line or Thinking Out Loud, let me know, if I like it, I’ll use it. So I just use song lyrics or this one from Luda. But it’s been a week since the last post so I have a decent amount of stuff to get through. Here we go.

-Before I get started, I’m watching MNF as we speak and I would like to articulate my dislike for Jon Gruden. As a football analyst, he’s not the worst, but his attempts at humor are abysmal. He tries to out-Jaws Jaws with his “I’m a football analyst, so I’m going to talk very euphemistically about the perfect three-step drop and end with a great point that’s really obvious like the team that has the most points wins the game.” So now you know how announcers talk. Anyway, tonight Jonny is talking about the Falcons and Saints TEs calling them “jokers” because “they’re good in any hand.” We know J. Shockey and T. Gonzalez are good, we play fantasy football. I get it, you need to be creative. Fine. But Jon. What. The. Fuck.

I just took a picture of my TV with my Blackberry. It broke after this.

On to more interesting things than a grown man dawning a Joker mask to articulate his point about tight ends…

-While I’m on the football beat. Golf.com’s blog the Press Tent brought me word that my buddy T.Woods came in 2nd in a Harris Poll about the Greatest Sports Stars of All Time. This is not that thing that made my nauseated, nor was it that MJ was #1, Babe Ruth was #3 or Muhammad Ali was 4th. No real problem with any of that. Greatest of all time. All of them are great. Guess who was ranked the #5 Greatest Sports Star of All Time? Brett Fucking Favre. Are you shitting me? I know I put this on my other blog for class, but here it is again. Google unlocks my mind with their suggestions.

-I don’t care who you are, but there are only a few things in my life that come close to as refreshing as a red pop. One of those few things is Mountain Dew. It is the official drink of Elder Golf.

RAH!

Anyway, as much as my love is for the Dew, Caron Butler was a lot more into it. He said it was impossible for him. Look.

To try and give this up was CRAZY for me! I was going through withdrawals. I was in the bed sweating. My wife would turn over in the bed and ask “Are you OK?” Honestly, those first two weeks without The Dew was the roughest two weeks of my life. I’m talking headaches, sweats and everything. Before that I drank at least six 12 ounce Mountain Dews a day.

Six in one day, holy Dew Batman, but he dropped 11 lbs. and is doing decent this year for my fantasy team, averaging 10.5 ppg and 6 rpg. Drink a Dew for Caron.

-Also coming from the NBA, my homeboy JJ Redick is coming out with a rap album. Many think it will be shitty, I say he scored 27 points last night, so suck it. He’ll do what he wants. I like this picture though.

-Clearly, those who know me know that I am a Duke fan. I love Duke basketball, but so far this preseason I have been skeptical. Their Midnight Madness festivities included this video reenacting some classic movie scenes with some Dukies playing the starring roles. It’s a decent attempt at humor and that was fine for me…

but then I came across this, and I don’t approve. Enough’s enough. When can Seth Curry play?

-Here are two videos I saw over the weekend that prove how shitty the some teams are. One’s supposed to be a professional football team, the other a minor league of sorts. Both blow. Here’s the “pro team”

and the semi-pro… Yeah, his own teammate tackled him, but he’s excited he got that far.

Atrocious.

-In the spirit of last weekends Halloween festivities, for my lil brother, the best costume I saw, next to the actual person.

Kansas Jayhawk football coach Mark Mangino will always remind me of this little baby who looks exactly like him. Kudos to the parents for dressing him like this. Good Stuff.

-Finally for today, Michael Phelps is better than me at many things. My girlfriend reminds me his body is also better. Tramp. But this is one thing I know I can beat Aquaman in and I’m not a good putter.

Suck it, Phelps. Go smoke some more pot, fu manchu.

That’s all for today. I’ll do better this week.

Cheers.
