New Racing Version for International GT Sport

Stuttgart. Following the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is entering yet another racing car in the 2010 motorsport season: The 911 GT3 R will be raced in series based on the international FIA GT3 regulations, thus succeeding the 911 GT3 Cup S. The main focus in developing this new model was on even better drivability and even easier handling.

The 911 GT3 R is powered by a four-litre six-cylinder boxer engine delivering maximum output of 480 bhp (353 kW) transmitted to the rear axle by a sequential six-speed dog gearbox.

The starting point in developing the 911 GT3 R weighing just 1,200 kg or 2,646 lb was the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup presented in September for one-make cup racing. Thanks to its increase in engine size by 0.2 litres, the GT3 R offers 30 bhp more than the Cup model. Both cars are based on the extra-wide body of the 911 GT3 RS street-legal sports car.

An anti-lock brake system (ABS), traction control and an e-gas with “throttle-blip” function make it much easier to get used to this new GT3 racing car than its predecessor, meaning that the new model is also more appropriate for the ambitious amateur racing driver.

Flared wheel arches added on to the body both front and rear bear clear testimony to the wider track than on the former model. And like all second-generation versions of the 911, the new 911 GT3 R also comes with striking LED rear light clusters.

The Porsche 911 GT3 R is making its world debut on 14 January 2010 at the Birmingham Motor Show. The car is built by Porsche’s Motorsport Department at the Weissach Development Centre and will be delivered to Customer Teams the world over as of spring 2010. The base price of the Porsche 911 GT3 R is 279,000 euros plus local sales tax/VAT.

Out of the 18 “peacefully co-existing” religions we so often take pride in, in Lebanon, it is seldom reminded that one of them is Judaism.

As the Beirut synagogue is currently under renovation, a French journalist: Julie Lerat, took advantage of a recent visit to Beirut to record a radio documentary with Lisa, one of the few remaining Jews in Lebanon. A fun, smart, extroverted 50-year old living  in the historically Jewish neighborhood of “Wadi Abu Jmil”.

Ştiu că viaţa se trăieşte în prezent cu privire spre viitor, dar trecutul te ajută să înţelegi mai bine prezentul şi viitorul. Multe întrebări ce mi le-am pus de-alungul vremii legate de credinţă, convingeri, politică, filozofie, mentalităţi, chestii sociale etc. mi-am putut afla răspunsuri studiind trecutul. Ştiind în general cum au stat lucrurile înainte, îmi dau seama azi DE CE e aşa, aşa şi aşa şi nu altfel?

Ok. Vorbim despre trecut. 23 august: o zi mare pe care românii (adică noi) sărbătoream fosta zi naţională a ţării. De ce 23 august? Se ştie prea bine iar cei care nu ştiu îi invit la un exerciţiu scurt de documentare cu ajutorul Google-ului sau a Wikipediei pentru şti de ce.

Eram mic pe vremea aceea, dar îmi amintesc cum era pregătită acea zi: cu cât fast şi cu câtă solemnitate. Defilări, tarabe, mici, bere … totul trebuia să aibă aer de mare sărbătoare şi să iasă impecabil. Trebuia să ieşi din casă pentru “a te bucura” de ziua de 23 august “ziua eliberării patriei noastre de sub jugul fascist!” Era o sărbătoare ce mai ales pe vremea lui Ceauşescu a fost încă un prilej de manifestări şi elogieri la adresa Conducătorului iubit. Cultul personalităţii atingea cote profesionale în Republica Socialistă România de atunci. Foametea şi sărăcia erau tot mai acute dar pe 23 august se găseau de toate, lumea în psihoza ei, trebuia să pară fericită şi mulţumită, ba mai mult să se bucure de sărbătoarea naţională!

Nu are rost să spun mai multe. Poate tinerilor până-n 25 de ani, azi nu le vine să creadă cum erau acele vremuri şi că noi cei care am prins Epoca de Aur, avem tendinţa să exagerăm. Vă invit să vizionaţi clipul de mai jos şi apoi să încercaţi să vă gândiţi câte resurse, muncă în teroare şi psihoză trebuia să se depună pentru o gogomanie de spectacol ca aceea.

The Rising Sun Rock Festival still has about six hours to go, as I write this.  If you hurry you still might catch the last acts!  I am back home after two days of shooting photos and checking out some of the live acts.  Great weather this year, and a lot of people enjoying the music and Hokkaido lifestyle.

Highlights from the first day were Goma, Cro-Magnons, Hanaregumi, and Oki Dub Ainu Band.  I filmed Goma’s performance so I don’t have any photos this time.  He was the first act on that stage and the band really set the crowd on fire!  Was great to see everybody getting into the Goma sound!

Oki Dub Ainu was my favorite of the day though.  From what I could tell they must have never rehearsed for the show.  The performance was very much adlibed.  It was refreshing to see a musician that deep into his stuff.  He was so deep into it that the band ran over time by at least 30 minutes.  The staff was running around trying to figure out how to get them off stage, you could tell the producer was a little pissed.  At the end of the last song, the boss on the side of the stage threw up the big X with his arms and that was it for the day, the show was over.

Again respect to Oki and the Ainu people for being the most rock and roll thing I saw all day.  Singing entirely in Ainu, a language that nobody understands, he set a stick on fire and left it to burn on the stage (the staff came out and took it away) and only talked between songs once to say thanks to the crowd.  It was a refreshing change from all the other bands blabbing on and on about how great it is to be in Hokkaido and how everyone should buy their new album and tour t-shirt at the merchandising store.  Screw that crap, if we like your music we will find a way to buy it, so stop acting like a record label salesman and play your damn music!

Today I went back to film “North Shore Breezing” a rough session with Higashida Tomohiro, Keison, and Laison.  Again no rehearsal, not even a set list. They did three songs each, then had a great jam session at the end all together playing three more songs!  The crowd really got into it at the end as the sun set.  I met a lot of Car Danchi fans when I went out into the crowd, so that was a nice feeling as well!  Thanks.

Also got to snap a rare picture backstage before the show. The act before North Shore was Okuda Tamio solo performance. He is one of Japan’s most famous rock musicians. Anyway I got two shots of him, one with the producer of the event who is also an old friend of mine and then he posed with the headless cow sign for me.

Good fun.  Might have some more pictures tomorrow to post.  For now I am much in need of sleep, as tomorrow I have another “Fashion” shoot!

The Rising Sun Rock Festival is coming up this weekend, I will be out there to check out and shoot some photos of Goma and also Higashida Tomohiro. There are a bunch of other bands I want to check out, so lets hope for good weather!

According to the sponsors, the festival is something of a small city that springs into life from the nothingness of the Hokkaido wilderness for two days every year! There is electricity as well as water supplies, and even Internet access is available! What makes the RSR unique above all is the on-site camping. Having a barbecue with friends at the same time as catching some of the best live acts Japan has to offer, that’s the kind of luxury that you can only experience at the RSR! The lineup is carefully selected from all areas of Japan’s contemporary scene. Genres range from rock, AOR, alternative, industrial, techno, jazz, ska and more so there’s something for all music lovers. Take the chance to check out the wide range of styles represented, maybe you’ll find a new favorite along the way! The music is of course the main attraction of the festival but there are a whole lot of other things for you to enjoy between acts. Why not make your way to one of the many food stands and enjoy the local specialties of Hokkaido? Besides this there are booths that offer the opportunity to experience the rich Hokkaido wilderness and you can also get information about the present environmental problems that threaten this priceless nature.
