只要再多下載一隻 feedReader.inc.php 就可以執行了。

Welcome to the Future. Your newspaper is here. This is the cliché and soon-to-be-outmoded catch phra

Welcome to the Future. Your newspaper is here. This is the cliché and soon-to-be-outmoded catch phrase in the minimalist advertisement for the Times Reader 2.0.

The New York Times has released a fancy but singular version of an RSS reader with a clean, user-friendly interface, powered by Adobe Air. At $14.95 a month, it is quite costly given that all articles available on the reader are also available for free on the Times website in their entirety. All you end up paying for is an application, only slightly more accessible than most other RSS readers.

As a paid subscriber to the Sunday Home Delivery edition, I was able to download the reader for free. I appreciate the “Most E-Mailed” feature that allows me to see the most emailed articles for each day, updated every 15 minutes. (At nytimes.com, the “Most E-Mailed” lists show the most emailed articles within a specific time frame rather than from a specific date.) Also noteworthy is the inclusion of the Daily Crossword that can be filled out within the application. A brief video demo of the reader is available here.

The order of the categories in the left navigation column is slightly random. For example, Obituaries immediately follows Front Page, International, and National, but precedes Opinion. Upon further exploration, sections that appear only on a specific day in print (e.g. Health, Science, or Weddings) also appear only under that day on the reader.

If the New York Times decision-makers believe their future lies in this software, they need to make it worth $179.40 a year to use their reader instead of another free reader. Either way, the content is the same. For a little less than $180, I expect bells and whistles, which I guess I’m getting by continuing my Home Delivery subscription like a good dinosaur.

I have only one more week left before I start all the traveling around Christmas. That makes me thin

I have only one more week left before I start all the traveling around Christmas. That makes me think about what to read over the holidays. The semester will be over, and I am ready to dump some of the MBA stuff in my brain into the garbage and replace it with some music business insights. So, if you know a book that you think I should really read, please go ahead and tell me. Here is my recommendation for your holiday reading:

Create your own music business book. After reading a blog story about the advantages of RSS-feeds for artists I realized how I use this technology myself already and want to share how you can do it, too. First you need to find a feed reader. I myself use Bloglines, but there are numerous others like Rssreader or Feedreader. Now create an account in your feed reader and add the music business blogs that you want to follow into your reader. Each time one of these bloggers posts a new message you will notice it in your feed reader and can check out a preview or possibly the whole post. No more search marathons through your favorite blogs. It’s all there!!!

Here is a small list of good music business blogs that will get you started:

Future Of Music (Blog by David Kusek)

Lefsetz Letter (Blog by Bob Lefsetz)

The Long Tail (Blog by Chris Anderson)

MediaFuturist (Blog by Gerd Leonhard)

Music Marketing [dot] com (Blog by David Hooper)

Music Think Tank (Blog – different authors)

Out of Athens – The Jam Music Business (Blog by Christoph Hoffmann)

Seth’s Blog (Blog by Seth Godin)

TechCrunch (Blog – different authors)

Unsprung Wisdom (Blog by Bruce Warila)

Now whether these bloggers will post during the holidays is another question.

@ UGA Music Business Program students who might follow this blog. This is a way to follow all the online material that Bruce wants you to follow. And you have your christmas reading for the holidays!!!

Laugh along with the Laughing Man, and the World laughs with you. I almost did that drawing on the white boards of the Psychology and Sociology rooms at college today, just without the animation. It might be interesting one day just to plaster Laughing Man everywhere and see what people make of it.

My earlier attempts at writing a blog after posting episode 2 of the GNTG show were scuppered by RP, music videoes and talking to friends, and then by this post over on Rockjaw’s blog, and the reply to the part on the MMO Armageddon article at 1up.com.

I still remember the excitement of getting into the WISH open beta and discovering the game wasn’t that good, but I still felt sad when they closed down several days later, seeing the game as being unviable.

Over on the CoH EU forums is this topic about the EuroGamer re-review of City of Heroes, and the players raise some interesting points on what could be added to CoH to make it more fresh. I did complain once on the boards that the game seemed more like City of Instances, with not much actually taking place in the city itself, and there’s been some of the suggestioned that I mentioned raised again on that topic, so they must be sound!

Congratulations go out to the winners of the Tabula Rasa competition that takes them to the Austin headquaters to meet the dev team and hear about Deployment 10 at the ‘AFS War College’. Hope you have a blast! Uh, just with no actual explosive ordinance though.

Guild Wars brings in the ‘Test My Computer’ option with a patch today, that should be useful in helping ArenaNet diagnose problems. I really should ask them about some of the orange-red lag spats I’ve been having sometimes. And drag some friends onto the game to do some adventuring. Also in the patches on the 29th were several bugfixes and a few miscellaneous bits to do with drops and items.

Oh, if people are looking for a standalone RSS reader, I’d have to recommend… uh, RssReader, a nice bit of freeware that has been keeping me up to date on all the latest things I’ve programmed into its RSS feed, from webcomics to gaming and tech news.

Speaking of Webcomics, over 3400 pages read in the past 2 weeks. I read fast and compulsively. I’ll be linking some more soon, but I have to say: Girl Genius rocks. I can’t believe I put off reading it. I’d also recommend some of the work by T. Campbell, from Fans to Penny and Aggie and all kinds of other stuff. Khaos has began updating again, which I’m happy about.

Oh, in case you’ve never seen it, check out PostSecret every Sunday for some weird, cool, sad, touching, happy and witty secrets in the form of Postcards that have been sent in, and marvel at what the Internet can do that isn’t porn related.

I’ve got a brief bit to write on my dabbling with Lineage 2 later, and some kind of article on something or other I’d like to churn out, plus some creative stuff too, from maybe writing the script/story for ‘The Game’s The Safe Word’ to other such projects that have been loitering in my mind for too long now like ‘Kami: Renewal’, a definitely Anime and manga inspired story about people who discover the divine spirits of Japan have been chosing mortal avatars to recieve their gifts and fight against a corruptive force flowing throughout the spirit realm; to ‘The Contracters’ which is a cyberpunk tale of a former Lawcorp officer turned Contracter, his best friend and hacker and that friend’s girlfriend as they make their way from job to job and planet to colony, in search of money, fame, adventure, romance and enough small change to pay for parking fees.

Plus, a super secret project that I am not at liberty to discuss. If that wasn’t enough, I have job hunting and MMO’s to also fill my time. And this blog, of course.

One day, I’ll get a datajack fitted, and be able to just beam my thoughts onto the PC to type quicker than lightning. One day…

I am an RSS junkie. I have used only 2 news readers in the past: Feedreader and Sharpreader. I have used Google reader for some other feeds/reputation monitoring purposes, but sometimes find it a bit clunky and unreliable in terms of handling lots and lots feeds. I am talking ALOT of feeds. Currently have hundreds and hundreds of feeds tracking hundreds of keywords, blogs and general news stuff. At times, I have over 30,000 items in my reader that I look through. Up until now, I have used Sharpreader and really liked it. Sharpreader did its thing and I went along my merry way.

Then last night I downloaded the personal edition of the JetBrains Omea Reader and my RSS/feed addiction has been taken to a new level. Without question, this is the best free reader on the market. Its laid out well and has a ton of features nor normally found in many readers. I especially love the “subscribe to search feed” feature. If you are in the market to switch or just want to try out a new look and feel of your seemingly boring reader you need to check out JetBrains Omea Reader….as you will not be disappointed

RSS, Real Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary, is an XML-based format (using the Resource Descri

RSS, Real Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary, is an XML-based format (using the Resource Description Framework (RDF) that provides an open method of syndicating and aggregating Web content. Using RSS files, you can create a data feed that supplies headlines, links, and article summaries from your website to others. Users can have constantly updated content from websites delivered to them via a news reader (aggregator), a piece of software specifically tailored to receive these types of feeds.

The big consumer benefit to RSS is that consumers opt-in to obtain content of interest, totally controlling the flow of information they receive. The RSS reader acts as an aggregator, allowing users to view and scan multiple content streams in a timely fashion.

So let’s reverse this whole idea now. Let’s say you have a website or blog. Do you provide RSS feeds for the content on your site? Can your users simply take the content that is on your site and feed it to theirs? In a few years, most websites and blogs will have RSS integrated with their website. RSS will become a standard, just as email has become a standard in our lives today. It will be a regular service that is packaged with the development of every website.

The end doesn’t stop here. RSS will be used for all types of syndication and content distribution of the future. Email will eventually use RSS and corporations will use it for various communication channels to notify their clients of upcoming specials, discounts, product announcements and technical support issues.

I’m excited to see where RSS takes us. Look what email has done for us over the last several years. Email is such an important part of all of our lives – we could not live without it. In my opinion, RSS is just as unique. RSS is going to drive the distribution of content for many years to come, if not forever.
