It s been a while since my last blog entry. I ve been snooping around some forums to learn all about the SCX10 in order to build a nice rig because I m planning to take part in some of the local trailing events.

Actually i was planning to show off some of my goodies which I was supposed to receive from rpp hobby today but no luck…Well, most probably it will arrive next week at some point and I can continue my build. I have noticed with scalers that once you think that you have all the parts you need, you will find new additions that can be added to your car-by the end of the day it is a never ending hobby.

I m still contemplating whether I should put my Wraith axles on to my Jeep to give it the mean look?

Moving Averages

The Bollinger Bands are also traditional technical tools which are very good for providing leading trading signals. The best way of incorporating them in your trading is to use them as boundaries for price. The lower band is the lower barrier (support) and the upper band is the upper barrier (resistance). A profitable strategy is waiting for price to touch the lower or upper band of the Bollinger, and starting to move in the opposite direction. This signal is stronger when the middle band (Simple Moving Average) is not sloped (flat).

This indicator was developed by Donald Lambert 30 years ago, and is still used today – a proof of its importance over changing market environments. The CCI is very useful in gauging periods of overbought and oversold in price. Readings below -100 are considered oversold and readings over 100 are considered overbought. Crosses of these levels can be used to generate trading signals. Moreover, a famous strategy is used with the CCI indicator, known as Woodies CCI. It involves interpreting patterns on the CCI indicator, and is also a profitable strategy.

Rubicon: Building Bridges to Home

Many of us are lucky to have the support of family and friends when we make mistakes or disaster strikes. They encourage us, help us take the next step, remind us of our goals. For more than 3,000 people in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, Rubicon is that support.

Since 1973, Rubicon has provided employment, housing, mental health, and other services to low-income residents of some of the hardest hit communities across the East Bay.

Dorothy’s Story

One Rubicon client, Dorothy, became homeless after depression and drug addiction got the better of her. Living under a bridge, alienated from her children, and scared for her safety every night, Dorothy lived through dark times. She tried to end her own life. Someone suggested she come to Rubicon.

Dorothy was determined to make her life whole again. She accessed the services she needed at Rubicon–customized to meet her challenges. Her depression combined with physical problems like diabetes and addiction kept her from being able to work. Rubicon’s legal support staff helped Dorothy access Social Security benefits.

“I felt people cared about me again. I felt better after coming to Rubicon.”

Bridges to Home

Rubicon’s Bridges to Home program found Dorothy a place to live in a peaceful neighborhood in Pinole–away from the violence and temptation of her Richmond life. One-on-one counseling with a caring therapist, group therapy, and home visits helped Dorothy learn how to cope with difficult feelings and overcome drug addiction. Rubicon staff gives Dorothy rides to doctor’s appointment and to Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

Rubicon aims to treat clients with respect, and as whole people. To help people who have been struggling with mental illness most of their lives define what health and happiness is for them – not what we say it is. And it works. We decreased hospitalization rates for people with serious mental illness by 54% last year.

Regaining Family Members’ Trust

Dorothy regained her family members’ trust and spends time with her children and grandchildren. Her son is proud of her and picks her up for dinner each week. Without Rubicon, Dorothy says she would be homeless, not taking her medication, drinking, using drugs, and ending up in the hospital like she used to.

“I’m just happy now.”

Axial SCX10 Jeep Rubicon

So I have picked up the Axials 2012 SCX10 Jeep Rubicon this weekend. After the Wraith kit and XR10(which I havent built yet), I got infected with scalers and rock crawling. Since I didnt like the design of the Honcho and Dingo in the slightest, the Jeep was my only choice left.

Next was the question: RTR or kit?

Since here in Switzerland the kit would only be around 40 bucks cheaper and I dont own all the required electronics to keep as spare parts, I have decided to go for the RTR version and upgrade the car step by step.

Cheap Mod #1

I could use the suspension links from my Wraith Kit to put on my SCX10. Later on I will replace them with titanium links.

First of all I will upgrade my wheels. I m going to stick with the 1.9 size to avoid the monster truck look when I put the 2.2 size wheels on. Furthermore I m going to add some weights in all for wheels instead of just the front in order to keep the car in balance.

The rims will be beadlock made out of machined aluminium instead of plastic ones. Of course they are much more expensive but by the end of the project I want the car to look good.

After looking at hundred of pictures I finally found the right choice :

On those rims i will add the HB Rover 1.9.

So everything is ordered and i hope the package will arrive by the end of the week, so I can mount them by the weekend.

Here are a couple of things I had in my mind for my SCX10.
- Clear Jeep Rubicon Body with Roof(same as SCX10 Kit)
- G-Made Piggyback shocks
- Vanquish rigid light bar
- Savöx high torque servo
- Vanquish aluminium axles

Ranking the Shows That I Watch - 2012 edition: The Outcasts, Part 1

I’m currently out of the country, which is causing me to unfortunately to temporarily fall behind on current television. What better time, then, to finally issue my slightly belated ranking of TV shows that I watched in 2012. I last put together a ranking in the summer of 2011, and it will be interesting to see what went up, went down, and stayed the same. Here are the rules: to be ranked, the show has to have aired episodes in the 2012 calendar year. Secondly, I’m not ranking any shows that debuted in Fall 2012 and haven’t finished full seasons, because those shows haven’t put in enough time yet to judge. Third, I’m trimming the fat from my 2011 rankings; I’m only ranking shows that I’ve seen several of this past year; for most shows that I rank, I’ve seen all of, and for just a couple I’ve seen most of. So for the most part, I at least like every show on the list, and it’s something of an accomplishment just to make it on. Fourth, while I’m considering body of work as far as the whole year goes, if a show was much better in fall 2012 than the end of a previous season in the spring, I’ll tend to lean towards accounting for the uptick in performance. Lastly, primetime shows only; which mainly means no Daily Show or Colbert Report.

With that in mind, we’re almost ready to start, but first we’ll spend a couple posts going over shows that made the last list but didn’t make this one, and why that was the case. Also, quick apologies to British shows Peep Show and The Thick of It, both of which aired episodes in 2012, but which I’m one season behind on and thus won’t rank; I look forward to catching up with both of them.

Glee

2011 ranking: 34

I had already stopped watching this show by the fall of 2011; it’s simply, well, bad. I know a number of people who watched it regularly at some point and most have at one point or another just decided to quit. It’s closer to Heroes than to even a show like Lost in the ratio of how long it was good before it turned bad. There was a half season in which the show had a coherent plot arc,while the remainder of the show has been spent trying to reach that again. Flaws include characters which have extremely inconsistent personalities, an extreme reversion to status quo sometimes (like a comic book villain, Jane Lynch can’t win enough to stop the club, but also sticks around to keep almost doing it), plot arcs that just go way over the top, and plenty of the characters that are just well, bad. Goodbye Glee, I’m glad to see the public has largely stopped caring about you as well.

Modern Family

2011 ranking: 33

I gave myself more leeway last rankings in terms of how much I needed to watch a show before ranking it, and though I’ve seen most of Modern Family’s first season, I haven’t watched much after it. It isn’t so much because I don’t think it’s a good show (though I certainly don’t think it’s a great show) as much as it’s not a show for me; it just isn’t really up my alley. It does feature an all-time personal pet peeve with little narrations at the end of each half hour summing up the episode and giving it some totally unnecessary and unsubtle overarching theme, but mostly I think it’s still just a small bit old-sitcom-y for me. I will say I think, from my previous watching, that Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and their family are far and away the funniest of the three families on the show and I do think there are some genuinely good laughs. Anyway, I can’t really begrudge anyone for watching it, though I’ve heard it’s gotten worse of late, but I stopped because I realized I just didn’t care enough it to watch, and that’s still how I feel.

Fairly Legal

2011 ranking: 32

We’re really in the dregs here. Honestly, there was absolutely no reason for me to be watching Fairly Legal at any time, except that I had a bit of a possibly ironic, and possibly not ironic obsession with USA programs. That obsession has subsided and Fairly Legal, the worst of the USA programs that I watched, was pretty quickly dropped. It’s not awful but it’s pretty generic; charismatic lawyer-turned-mediator uses her natural charm, ability, and determination to solve problems others can’t. You’ve seen it before. Just in case I hadn’t stopped watching it by now, USA’s stopped it for me; cancelling it after it’s second season finished airing last summer. I doubt many will be crying over the loss.

Rubicon

2011 ranking: 31

Last year’s list reached back into 2010, so it hit upon AMC’s one true failure (we can debate The Killing, but at least it went two seasons), Rubicon. It’s a little bit of a shame because Rubicon, unlike say Fairly Legal, had a chance to be a really interesting, good, show. And then, well, like so many other dramas that start off with promise, it wasn’t. It tackled a 70s neo-noir feeling in a way I don’t think recent shows have, but while the mood was right, the plots slowly fell apart and the conspiracy may have unraveled a little too far even for a conspiracy show. I probably would have watched if there was a second season, but part of me was certainly comforted by the fact that it was cancelled and I wouldn’t have to. I wish it was better, because I think there was something there, but it wasn’t, and it’s rightfully gone.

Day 138: Better Than A Tucker . . .

So, way back in 1988 a little known film by Francis Ford Coppola hit the screens of America’s movie houses. . .Tucker, A Man and His Dream starring Jeff Bridges debuted to less than thrilling audience attendance. Yes, the film was critically acclaimed, but audiences just couldn’t connect with the content. The film recounts the story of Preston Tucker and his attempt to produce and market the 1948 Tucker Sedan, which was met with scandal between the “Big Three automobile manufacturers” and accusations of stock fraud from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Coppola had a certain amount of personal affinity with the short-lived legacy of Preston Tucker. His father, Carmine Coppola, had been one of the original investors in Tucker stock and purchased one of the cars off the production line. Coppola included the involvement of Preston Tucker’s children, grandchildren and members of the Tucker Estate during the development of Tucker in the late 1970s, as well as during filming in 1987. Despite helming his “labor of love,” Coppola was insistent that Tucker: The Man and His Dream would be his last Hollywood project. He reiterated a long-held dream of his own, embarking on a “period of amateurism and experimentation as a Hollywood dropout.”

Who would have known that shortly after this film’s release, Mr. Coppola would go into the wine business by purchasing a vineyard. . .and who would have thought that a few short years after that, Mr. Coppola would begin producing award winning wines recognized throughout the Napa Valley (Geyersville, California) as big, bold and trend-setting. We even visited Rubicon Estates when on a wine trip there in 2008. . .and on the second level of the expansive tasting room was a fully restored, 1948 Tucker automobile. It was–a thing of beauty.

Tonight’s wine is a tip of the hat to Mr. Coppola and his movie magic and wine making prowess. Jean found this while on a ‘scouting’ trip to HEB. We opened a 2011 Rosso & Bianco Rosso Red Wine–Rosso is made from a blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from diverse growing regions across California. We immediately noticed an overwhelming aroma of dried plums, dates and apricots. The nose was distinct; however, the tasting was much more complicated. We struggled for any fruit on the palate or the finish. While the tannins were relatively smooth, the wine had nothing to offer in the way of real taste. The winery stated, “The supple texture and rich, juicy flavors of plum, cherries, mocha, and strawberry jam make this wine a perfect accompaniment to almost any meal.” We were left with a meal and a red wine to help wash it down. At less than $15 a bottle, you can do really well by finding other wines in the same price point with better flavor and better finish–there are plenty of better wines. Is this wine too young? Perhaps, but one could suggest that it’s commercial value through thousands of cases is better suited to the wine DRINKER and NOT the wine LOVER.

Regardless, we are fans of several Coppola wines. His top of the line, Rubicon Estates vintages are the stuff that legends are made of and red carpets are made for, but tonight’s offering was no better than a Saturday matinee. We’ve watched Jeff Bridges in Tucker, A Man and His Dream several times. While the film wasn’t a commercial success, if you watch Mr. Bridges, you see some acting brilliance that would carry him through the 80′s, 90′s 2000′s and now in the 2010′s. . .talk about a true professional at his craft!! Sometimes we go to the movies because the story line grabs us; sometimes we go because the actors/actresses appeal to us. . .and sometimes we go to the movies to escape. Tonight we escaped–but still had to taste the wine.

Notes: I picked up a Guava Rubicon on my way home from work. Kate had got a Mango one earlier just in case I failed to prepare for today’s mission. Here they are with Eva’s cuddly owl known only as Souffle-Owl:

We had a surprise visit from our friend Rachel who was in London on a shopping spree today and called in to see us before heading back to the countryside. She joined me in the drinking of the Rubicon – she had the Guava, I had the Mango.

Julius Caesar (100-44BC) crossed the Rubicon river with his troops in 49 BC, sparking off a civil war against his own son-in-law Pompey who was six years older then Caesar – but that’s how they rolled back in ancient Rome. It’s not very clear where the Rubicon is/was – the name fell into disuse once the Roman Empire had gone the way of Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars and the region was subject to many floods during the middle ages and so it follows a different route today then it did in Caesar’s time. Historians and geographians have struggled for many years, however no one knows for sure if it tasted more like guava or mango juice.

Compression Adjustable High Preformance Shocks For The '07 - '13 Jeep Wrangler

The 2007 – 2013 Jeep Wrangler JK is without question the most refined 4×4 vehicles to date and the aftermarket is working hard to make it even better. Though advances in technology are not always easy on your wallet, often times these aftermarket upgrades can significantly increase the performance potential of your Jeep Wrangler JK.

Our ’13 JK Unlimited Sport is equipped with a 3.5″ Rubicon Express superflex short arm suspension system and 35″ Pro Comp Xtreme M/T 2 on 17″ Method Race Wheel. We were happy with the new stance, but felt the suspension’s performance was limited by the aftermarket shock we used at the time of installation. To improve our new setup we equipped the JKU with Shock’s 2.5″ reservoir shocks that feature adjustable compression dials. Designed for the ’07-current Jeep Wrangler, these bolt-in performance dampers are intended for the off-road enthusiast looking for more performance and control from their suspension. King also offers similar bolt-in shocks for ’97-’06 Wranglers among other models.

For decades King Shocks has serviced the off-road world with everything from super-trick triple-bypass shocks and coilovers to air bumps. While the reservoir shock is nothing new to the King lineup the compression dial adjusters are a fresh part of brand new series of factory replacement shocks. To tune the new 2.5-inch shock you simply spin the aluminum adjustment dial to change the compression valving from soft to firm.

The shocks compression valving is what dampens the upwards motion of the suspension cycle. Need a softer ride in the rocks? Simply turn the dial down. Getting ready to haul ass through the desert? Grab a few turns to the firmer settings and you’ll be set. With the compression settings ranging from 0-20 there are plenty of tuning options to accommodate all ride critics.
