Prince William came face-to-face with a rather embarrassing situation when he bumped into naked All Blacks rugby team players during his New Zealand visit.

The 27-year-old British royal had arranged to meet the players, but strolled in as they were still in the showers.

“The Prince did a bit of a double-take, but actually dealt pretty well with what could have been embarrassing,” the Sun quoted an All Blacks source as saying.

“Some of the boys were more awkward. I think they’d have felt more comfortable being dressed more appropriately – or being dressed at all!” the source added.

Träningen började med att vi sprang en runda ute och det följdes av strykeprogrammet vid kanten av plan. Blev lite hårda tag när vi kom in på plan i form av rugby. Detta följdes av en övning där vi hade varsin boll och studsade i målgården samtidigt som man skulle försöka slå bort bollen ifrån de andra.

Delade sedan upp oss två och två. Passade med olika tekniker - sittandes och ståendes. Målvakterna körde lite annat själva. Sista 30 minuterna av träningen var kanterna på en sida medans  9 meter och mitt 6 på andra sidan. Det tränades på avslut och inspel till linjen. Bra jobbat idag och vi ses på torsdag igen!

Following a recent post where I looked at the growing injury concerns in rugby it was interesting to see this article posted by the BBC today.

I have already spoken about the issue in hand in some depth and you can read it in full by clicking here.

But now with the day of reckoning looming with the IRB annual conference just a week away

Rugby Football Union chairman Martyn Thomas has told the BBC a review of the laws is on the agenda.

“At all costs we’ll do what we can to protect players,

“The rise in injuries is not acceptable. We can’t just shut our eyes. We have the ability to change laws. If the medics and experts say there is a problem then the RFU will take a look at it.

“The crucial thing is player welfare and the impact the injuries are having on the game, apart from a moral issue, of course.”

Surgeon and former England full-back Jonathan Webb recently joined the likes of Lions team doctor James Robson, when he told BBC Sport that the increase in injuries could be put down to players getting stronger and fitter. England internationals are now on average two inches taller and a stone heavier than those of 20 years ago.

“A bigger body travelling faster hitting another body is going to cause more damage,” said Webb.

Another blogger recently used the example of French international Mathieu Bastareaud and former England World Cup winning centre Will Greenwood.  At 21-years of age Bastareaud is six-foot tall and close to 17-and-a-half stone.
While 6ft 3ins, Greenwood weighed in around the 15 stone mark in his prime.

This increase in size is being blamed for the increase in injuries to players and one man all too aware of this problem is Martin Johnson.

One man feeling the strain of injuries more than most has to be England team manager, Martin Johnson, who picked his squad for the Autumn Internationals today with 21 of the 64 players in the England elite and Saxons training squads out injured.  Wales also have their own problems, missing the vital Ospreylian trio of Adam Jones, Mike Phillips and Lee Byrne.

In a further move that will please rugby fans around the world, Thomas also revealed the panel would look at the prolonged periods of ‘ping-pong’ and lack of tries in today’s rugby.

England, for instance, have scored just one try in their last 240 minutes of rugby, while Wales came under the scrutiny of the media for their lack of try scoring prowess in the build up to the Argentina game.

Nonetheless it is fantastic to see Unions looking to address the issue especially such a traditionally forward dominated country as England.

After a recent international match against his native Wales, future King of England, Prince William stopped by the locker room of the New Zealand rugby team whose nickname is the All-Blacks. He didn’t give them much time after match was finished, I guess royalty doesn’t have patience because when he came into the locker room most of the team was still butt-naked.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was found dead on the B4116.
The 28 year old from Atherstone was pronounced dead at the scene after a mysterious crash, that caused her to be thrown from her blue Ford Fiesta saloon, as she was driving from Coleshill towards Atherstone.
It is unknown what caused her to lose control of her vehicle and anyone who may have witnessed the event, or the car described prior to the crash is encouraged to contact the police as soon as possible.

In the Observatory we’re getting very involved with the Warwickshire preparations for the next Census of Population, to take place on Sunday March 27th 2011. 

Results from the Census are used for a wide variety of purposes, including;  

producing accurate statistics about the population;  enabling better profiling of small areas, e.g. localities;  enabling better targeting of resources to areas in most need;  calculating funding for LAs, PCTs, Police, etc. for the next 10 years;  used as denominators for Performance Indicators; and used for Equality & Diversity Monitoring.

We’ve set up a series of webpages on the Observatory website, and these will be added to with the latest Census news, as we get closer to Census count day.

The Observatory will be leading on the analysis of the Census results for Warwickshire as they become available over the following couple of years after March 2011.  

The Garden Route stretches from Mossel Bay to Tsitsikamma River Mouth like a necklace of bays, beaches, diffs and rocky capes strung together along a line of pounding white surf. The Ocean teems with game fish and divers delight in the silent underwater world of bright colours and brave fish. The rivers, stained amber by the soil, have lovely navigable stretches, the Knysna lagoon lends itself to cheerful indulgences and the forests provoke cool walks through tunnels of shade if this is not a reason to visit the Garden Route then i don’t know what is

Although this story is a month old, it came alive again when I chatted to my rugby football obsessed family recently.

When I last talked to my sister Sharon who lives in New Zealand on the phone, here in Hollywood– she’d just got back from Japan where her and her hubby  Brotha Lou, had been visiting friends.

Both had an amazing time in Japan. They also had in their possession tickets to the New Zealand All Blacks Vs Australian Wallabies rugby football match at Olympic Stadium in Tokyo. [that's like having tickets to the Super Bowl final in the US! it is sort  of a 'rugby heaven' moment].

Of  course, New Zealand won, 32 to  19. (New Zealand is the best rugby football team  in the world).

According to my sis, their pre-match haka (Maori war dance) was amazing. You could hear a pin drop in Olympic Stadium from the Japanese crowd as they all eagerly leaned forward to see and hear as the New Zealand football team performed the  haka. Go The All Blacks!

Nice to see Japan loving Maori culture from New Zealand. Rock on Tokyo! My sister loved Japanese culture, so the shared interest in each others culture is very mutual.

In particular, Sister sledge loved experiencing the fashion couture on “Crazy Street,” Tokyo, where the fashion conscious make Lady Gaga’s fashion style look tame. Gwen Stefani wrote a song called ‘Harajuku Girls’ in Crazy Streets honor. Japan is more fashion forward than many Western nations. The youth of Japan have great style.

Great taste in rugby football teams too. Thanks Japan for supporting the All Blacks of New Zealand.

Perdoem minha profunda ignorância desportiva, por favor, mas quando vi o anúncio acima, no metrô, fiquei intrigada. Seria alguma piada com os machões do rugby? Ou se tratava de um jogo beneficente em prol do combate ao câncer de mama?

O trem chegou e eu me fui, sem conseguir ler direito o que o cartaz dizia. Mais tarde, ainda cismada, questionei Monsieur, que riu compreensivamente e me explicou que aquilo era simplesmente um cartaz anunciando um jogo do Stade Français, time de rugby de Paris, e que rosa é a cor do time.

Nah. Não pode ser.

Mas é.

Quer dizer que, não bastasse aquele monte de ogro ficar se agarrando em campo, eles ainda fazem isso vestindo rosa? Não tenho nada contra ogros, agarração ou rosa, mas esse é o tipo de esporte que eu enxergo como algo que alguém faz, ou mesmo assiste, para se sentir macho. E macho, diz a tradição, não veste rosa.

Uma rápida pesquisa pelo Google Images me deixou ainda mais chocada. Realmente, não sei mais o que dizer. Parece o time de rugby da Barbie.

P.S.: Como não é em rosa, mas em preto e branco, não comentarei aqui o calendário do Stade (já no seu décimo ano). Tampouco comentarei a linha de cosméticos que leva a marca do time.
