I am having a wave of inspiration, and suddenly decided to make GazettE fanarts!!!!!!

The GazettE and Alice in Chains have been staples of my music selection over the years. I love them both, great bands, great talent, great music. But this year they both let me down. Not in a huge way, but both DIM and Black Gives Way to Blue were disappointments for me.

The GazettE really are a talented band and I’ve been listening to DIM since July when it released but I still can’t see how it’s any better than the band’s previous albums, in fact in may be worse. There is a noticeable difference between the quality of the music between Stacked Rubbish and DIM. Ruki is still as strange and vague as ever but the band seems to have gotten lazy. The three previously released singles on the CD were probably better than most of the tracks on the CD. In fact, The GazettE could have used all nine songs from the the three singles and they would have put out a better album.

I’m not saying the album is terrible but so many things are missing on the musical end. The album is pretty much void of good guitar solos, if they are there they are muddled by effects of Ruki making noise. Aside from Guren there isn’t really any gut wrenching, make you want to cry songs. The heavy songs are more muddled and crazy as ever. It almost seems like some songs were made especially to attract a younger crowd. In fact I felt a few times that Ruki or Kai could not have wrote certain songs since some just seem manufactured to blend in with a increasingly generic visual scene. If DIM was supposed to be the spiritual successor to NIL it did a piss poor job.

I’m also starting to wonder what is up again considering the gazeboys released Before I Decay in October.

Now onto Alice in Chains. There really isn’t too much to say, I’m glad the band is back together, I’m glad their making music again but no one can replace Staley. There is just something missing in the vocals. Though I must say, great job on putting some sort of meaning back into mainstream music. Radio rock has largely shifted from decent angsty music to really shitty party music. We’re at a point where there are hair metal lyrics mixed with grunge music and it makes me want to puke. It’s so terrible, honestly how many songs do we really need about partying?

My, My MuiMui is getting older. Gor Gor is trembling with happiness. She’ll whistle a tune when you walk by, and you vaguely recognize it as the ‘Happy Birthday’ song through the mutilated tones and notes. Yes. Gor Gor sucks at whistling, and it’s a wonder how she can play the flute. . .at all. While you shuffle away, you begin to wonder why she was whistling such a melody, no matter how bashed up it became coming from her lips. And it dawns you. It’s your birthday, whether you like it or not. And your friends are celebrating with you whether you like it or not. So, when you stride through your door, strutting your stuff, the lights turn on, and you jump out of your skin when there are so many faces smiling at you. You can hear your GorGor snickering beside you, snidely commenting on your shocked face. You recognize your LG in the crowd, waving you over. Daddy is off to the side, sitting next to his GF, rambling on about how his little ungrateful princess is growing up. You laugh in your head because you know that he just feels old. You walk on, greeting old friends as you do, over to your LG. You feel overwhelmed and happy at the not-so-unwelcomed party. Aunty is chatting animatedly with her Hubby, Nick Jonas. But that’s a secret. Just like everybody elses’; stupid adolescents. As the party rolls on, everything is piecing itself together. GorGor is with a new guy, you noted dully, but he seemed to fit in. She’s smiling at you broadly as her new LG, ルキ,  slyly slings an arm around her shoulders. Her eyes seemed to sparkle at you. When your LG slides an arm around you too, you instantly knew what your GorGor seemed to be saying. Enjoy it, this is your day. Happy Birthday.

OH MY. MuiMui, if you are reading this, you are either snooping around too much, orrrr you just received your birthday gift, and decided to check it out. I hope it’s the latter. Seriously. If it’s not~~ GorGor is going to have to punish you >D

Winnie was a normal girl that studied hard, and enjoyed playing the piano. She never thought that she was an avid dreamer, (and about having a child, no less) but the small bundle in her hands, exactly the size of her pinky, told her otherwise. She pulled her lowerlip between her teeth thoughtfully, ignoring how her braces bit into her flesh. The young woman raised a slender finger to lift the baby-blue blanket away from its face. Surely, this BB wasn’t hers? Her hopes were crumpled when identical brown eyes stared into hers. Apparently, the ‘it’ was a ‘he’, and his little, chubby hands reached out to the finger that still lingered on the cotton blanket. Winnie watched in fright, and awe. His pink lips formed a smile that would have been considered radiant had he any teeth.

“Mama,” he mouthed.

Winnie fainted, falling onto her bed dramatically.

“10 minutes,” was all she uttered before her mind drew a blank. Naturally, a person would do such a thing if a child had shown such intellect at such an age.

When the girl came to, she was greeted with the sight of her GorGor giggling in front of her desk suspiciously. One could never cease being weary when it came to her. She massaged her temple, letting out a breathy sigh. Winnie tried to recall why she fainted. Big innocent eyes, thin lips, ebony hair, and infectious laughter; her BB. That did not seem right at all. She really hoped that it was all a dream, but inside, she knew it was reality. Winnie climbed out of bed, head spinning from getting up to fast. Slowly, she groped and stumbled over to her GorGor. She had better not done anything stupid, like drawing mustaches on her pictures again.

Sneakily, Winnie grasped her GorGor’s shoulders firmly, trying to emit an evil aura. She did not react at all, and Winnie knew she should have gone for her hips instead.

Bella tilted her head, shifting her body to look up at Winnie’s hovering self. She grinned.

“MuiMui~ I didn’t know you had a BB too!”

Winnie was bewildered. Her GorGor had a BB?

“You have a boyfriend?!” she asked loudly.

Her GorGor rolled her eyes as if to say, ‘Don’t ask such a dumbass question.’

Bella turned her attention back to the BBs which Winnie only just realized was laying on her desk. She beckoned her BB over with a slender finger. Bella’s BB walked over, quite gracefully for what looked like a toddler. He stood with proper posture; back straight, and shoulders squared. His slate black hair stopped around his ear, layered for a feathered look. Winnie couldn’t help but wonder how Bella managed to cut the small thing’s hair with normal scissors. She snorted.

“Hai, Okaa-san? Nandesu ka?,” the BB asked with a respectful bow. His voice was childish, and small which proved Winnie’s observations.

Bella nodded her approval of her BB’s manners. She placed a hand on Winnie’s arm.

“Come greet your Oba-san, Koi.”

He bowed at Winnie, “Konnichiwa, Oba-san. Watashi wa Matsumoto Aki desu. Hajime mashite douzo yoroshiku.”

Out of habit and education that M. sensei drilled into her, Winnie bowed too.

“Yoroshiku.”

The eldest of the group waved Aki away. “Yoku deki mashita, sore dewa.”

Little Aki ran off to the other BB, all composure thrown out the window immediately. Bella scowled at this.

“I see you already started disciplining your BB,” Winnie started lamely. “So, GorGor, who’s this Japanese boyfriend of yours? Why haven’t you told me anything? I’m so hurt.”

She poked her chest theatrically, clenching at her clothes with vigor. It seems that her GorGor rubbed off on her. The eldest rolled her eyes again, although discreetly. She feigned sorrow sniffing for an added effect.

“Sadly, I don’t have a LG like you, dear MuiMui. It’s a one-sided love with the RUKI-est man on earth, Ruki,” Bella sighed exasperatingly. “My great feelings towards him brought me my future RUKI BB, Aki.”

Winnie tried to resist the urge to cough throughout Bella’s pitiful explanation and self-wallowing, and wheeze-whispering ‘Obsession’ in between said coughs. She only ended up choking on her saliva. Bella gave Winnie a ridiculous, and scandalized look. Being the good GorGor she is, the elder smacked the younger’s back to calm her. It didn’t help, it just left her skin stinging. Cheeks flushed, Winnie managed to get oxygen in her lungs, and not dying. She raised a shaky hand, as if to stop Bella from laughing at her misfortune. The elder had to bite her lips to keep from laughing.

“If Aki was born from your obsess—love with Ruki, wouldn’t that leave the possibility of having a Heechul BB?”

“I did have one, but poor Kim Ryu Lee was eaten by a cat.”

Winnie looked at her in disbelief, now having a turn at laughing at her Gorgor’s misfortune.

“A cat? The irony, Heechul liked cats, right? It would be really sad if the cat’s name was Heebum.”

Bella looked over to Aki, watching him dote on the newly born BB. She watched wistfully. Although Aki and Ryu have never met, poor Aki doesn’t have his older brother anymore. They would have gotten along great.

“But the cat’s name was Heebum. Some stupid, gay-assed girl who was sort-of-obsessed-but-not-as-much-as-I-was with Heechul named her cat after him. My Sweet Ryu was eaten by Heebum. I knew that cat was evil.”

Winnie immediately sobered up. Seriously, what are the chances of having a Heechul BB being eaten by Heebum? Not a big one.

“Oh. On the bright side, I’m sure Ryu tasted yummy~”

She winced as Bella let her head drop solidly onto the table, groaning all the way down. Lesson is that you should never say BBs are yummy when he/she was eaten. Never. Period.

Well, Im not sure how many of you know, but I am a college student here in Hawaii. Im studying to teach English in Japan and Korea! In a few weeks I start my second year at Chaminade University!!!

After exactly 2 years, the GazettE is back with a new album. I have been a fan for years but STACKED RUBBISH left a bad aftertaste. I have to admit, I was very sceptic towards this new album. It turns out DIM doesn’t only have amazing cover art but its content mixes old and new Gazette into a perfect – but very sinister – whole.

「Hakuri」 lights up the album and reminds us a bit of SA BIR by Dir en grey mixed with the instrumental version of Kugutsue that the GazettE had on their homepage a year ago. It’s quite eerie and sinister and it leads us (quite strangely) to THE INVISIBLE WALL. It’s the promo song for DIM and you can get the PV with the limited edition. It’s quite similar to DISTRESS AND COMA, the GazettE’s latest single and this mellow track certainly isn’t a bad start at all. It has an excellent drum roll and other melodic parts. Apart from Ruki’s typical (horrible) Engrish at times, this track is another favourite to add to your list. Some scratches and a catchy bass take us to the rock ’n roll party; A MOTH UNDER THE SKIN. The chorus is fun, the guitar slides make you tingle and there is enough weirdness to call this track ‘typically Gazette’. It’s followed by LEECH, the second single. An aggressive, up-beat song with a trashy break down in the middle.

Nakigahara, the first ballad on the album, shows you the lighter and emotional side of DIM. I can’t help but relate this song to Juunanasai (Gazette’s very first ballad). Despite its length (7.19) it doesn’t get boring. The song is dramatic, emotional and beautiful. The instruments stand alone to bring a powerful image of despair (most noteworthy the bass and a traditional Koto guitar) and an electronic sample is added to the whole with success rather than failure.  「Erika」 traces away the lingering drama with its electronic bells and sets the mood for the next song; HEADACHE MAN. The b-side must have been very popular to make it to the full-length. HEADACHE MAN is a hardcore party with bits of Nu Metal and Punk. Turn this up louder and let the adrenaline flow. It makes a 180° when Guren starts, their first single, and another ballad. It’s an emotional piece filled with a traditional Asian string melody.

「Shikyuu」 taps into the sinister mood again. The agonizing baby wails and eerie bells forebode you for 13STAIRS[-]1 . The vocals haunt you, only to terrorize you a second later. The guitars couldn’t sound more evil and aggressive. It’s a trip into a dark abyss and delivers a fantastic climax. DISTRESS AND COMA lifts you out of the darkness. It is familiar (see THE INVISIBLE WALL), but still emotional. The chorus is either catchy or boring; you have to decide that for yourself.

「Kanshoku」, a simple piano is followed by the softest track of the album; Shiroki Yuutsu. It is a bit poppy with an orchestra to guide the song and has a strong bass presence. IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS is a punk rock fest (I might be totally delirious but the verses remind me of Basket Case by Green Day).

「Morou」, the fifth and last interlude, breaks the sense of peace brought by the last two tracks. It’s short but vile and followed by OGRE. It spits in your face and is fast and aggressive. It leaves a disgusting taste in your mouth, but in a very good way. But did anyone notice? The first part is almost an exact copy of Disasterpiece by Slipknot. Finally, DIM SCENE drops the curtain. This last track feels epic and might as well be the end to a very melancholic story. Ruki’s vocals are powerful, the strong instruments are tragic and the violin let’s you know; the end is nigh.

the GazettE delivers a very sinister album in the middle of the summer. Shiroki Yuutsu and IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS can lift the mood but it would be better to listen to this album at night. It has an overload of interludes but luckily they fit in. Listen to this album, NOW!
