Iron Maiden’s ‘Run to the Hills,’ off “Edward the Great,” may not seem like anything remotely like the other songs on this blog. Once you get past the distinctly metal and distinctly 1980’s sound and feel (both of which I happen to love dearly), you can really start to realize the meaning of the lyrics. Like so many of the saddest pieces of art, this song focuses on the mistreatment of the Native Americans by white, European settles.

Alright, so me, my brother and his girlfriend were playing some Rock Band today. We weren’t exactly up to shape, however, because we failed many songs, and lost quite a bit of fans. So, we decided we’d do a last one on Expert and call it a day. Me on Bass, bro on Guitar, and vocals for her. We choose a random setlist – figuring it’s going to be easy ones, seeing as it was one of the early venues. Of course, my luck dictates that the first song is Run to the Hills. Darn. Never managed to finish that one on Expert. Not wanting to waste anymore fans, we decided we weren’t going to back down.

And, guess what, we actually finished it. Sure, only three stars, and we went through a lot of last-second savings, but hey, we made it. Good thing I managed to hit all the white ones we needed at the right moment. Band Savior, alright. Next one was just Still Alive, so we managed to bring those fans home with no trouble.

It’s not the first time we manage to make a previously impossible song because of the fans involved (we also made it through Fear of the Dark, even though we had failed it all the previous times). I wonder if having an objective in your mind is really that important. Oh well. I guess we might have just got lucky. Oh yeah, and I know some people on Youtube can do some monstrous showings, but right now, three stars is passable.

The songs on RB1 are kind wearing thin, so I hope RB2 arrives soon. Another ~100 songs is just what we needed.

Existem em qualquer Lugar..

Efsane metal grubundan bir şarkı. Bugün aklıma geldi. Uzun süredir dinlemiyorum. Kendimi kaybetmiş olmalıyım..

Vamos explicar esse complexo título.

A e B são as duas entidades principais da vida, de acordo com escritor famoso o que eu mesmo tô dizendo. A é a situação presente e B é a situação pretendida. Qualquer coisa que você faça em qualquer período da sua existência passa pelo processo entre A e B. Se você dá um passo, você sai do estágio em A (Sei lá, o primeiro degrau da escada) e passa para o estágio B (o segundo degrau). Entretanto, a coisa não é assim tão fácil: pra sair de A e chegar em B você precisa executar esforço. Este processo que te tira de A e põe em B pode ser infinitamente mais complexo do que a força que suas pernas exigem para subir um degrau. Dando um exemplo bem miss universo, se você quer ser o responsável por tirar o mundo da situação de milhões passando fome (A) para um contexto em que todos se alimentem bem (B), o processo é absurdamente difícil e, creio eu, impossível num prazo de menos de 3 vidas inteiras.

Processo fácil: de bombado (A) para saco de banha (B)
Processo complexo: de ator de filmes onde coisas explodem (A) para governador da califórnia (B)

E daí entra algo que eu venho percebendo faz algum tempo e que muito me incomoda: a maioria das pessoas pensa preponderantemente em B, antes de analisar A e o caminho entre A e B. Ou seja: eu ando percebendo que pessoas da minha convivência preferem primeiro ter um milhão de idéias mirabolantes antes de pensar se são viáveis. E eu vejo muita, muita gente fazendo isso. Essas seriam as pessoas B, ou seja, as pessoas que projetam objetivos sem pensar em sua possível viabilidade. Seria o exemplo de publicitários moderninhos, designers (sem generalizações e preconceitos, claro) e alguns outros tipos de pessoas que acham que a criatividade é tudo.

E daí nós temos as pessoas AB, ou seja, as pessoas que só pensam em processos. São aquelas pessoas que fazem de qualquer mudança ou processo um inferno; são os servidores públicos, aqueles que fazem de um processo que sai de A (não ter mais RG porque sua primeira via sumiu) para B (ter a sua segunda via do RG e poder voltar a uma vida normal) um monstro épico muito mais complexo do que deveria ser. São aquelas pessoas-entrave, que botam um milhão de empecilhos para que determinada situação chegue em B.

E ainda temos as pessoas A. Aquelas que não pensam e não fazem e nem sabem o que é B.

E todos nós temos um pouco de cada uma dessas pessoas (A, B e AB), em proporções diferentes. Às vezes a gente tem idéias e as quer em prática, mesmo que custem três trilhões de reais. Às vezes a gente põe milhões de entraves (como a preguiça) pra chegar em B ou simplesmente desiste porque o processo é muito complicado – e com isso, corre o risco de ser sempre óbvio. E às vezes a gente quer que o mundo se foda e que B também.

Daí eu proponho: sejamos realmente um pouco das 3, mas em proporções mais equiparadas (é, também acho muito importante ser A, ligar a TV e fingir que nada mais existe). Eu acho extremamente tosco neguinho que fica jogando 5 idéias por segundo sobre algo sem parar pra pensar no que tá falando. É assim que surgem as idéias absurdas com pouquíssimo conteúdo aproveitável, simplesmente porque não são aplicáveis na prática. E que me desculpe o Einstein e seu “Se, a princípio, a ideia não é absurda, então não há esperança para ela”, porque o mundo real envolve custos e ninguém faz nada sem uma viabilidade mínima – e existe viabilidade em coisas que parecem não ter, como ir à Lua.

 Tipo, sua idéia (seu B) pode ser sonhadora e meio mirabolante, mas pense nele por 3 minutos antes de falar. Veja se, mesmo tendo seu nível de maluquice, ela tem alguma viabilidade real. Pensar antes de falar faz milagres.

Aliás, o mundo real envolve uma série de coisas tristes, deprimentes e inflexíveis que ninguém conta pra gente – nem nossos pais e nem a faculdade. Se eu já to me sentindo um chato racional que barra a idéia de geral por causa desse texto, é bom saber que existem bem piores. Um cara acabou de ser demitido aqui da empresa porque queria mudar demais, queria inovar. E a minha célula aqui tá propondo exatamente a mesma coisa – mudanças drásticas.

E se a gente tá mesmo vivendo num mundo onde só se situa entre um dos extremos – existe gente criativa mirabolante demais lançando trabalho inútil em 99% do tempo, ao mesmo tempo que existe gente quadrada e racional demais barrando qualquer coisa – tá na hora de correr pras montanhas. Um mundo em que prevalecem os extremos é uma merda.

Janne the Director has gotten word that Lunki and Sika is making an unpaid pilot for Swedish Television and rushes to the office.

Yes. The rumor about us making an unpaid pilot for Swedish Television is true. We sent in an idea for a sitcom starring me. Oh, and Lunki. On Monday we start writing a masterpiece. It’s going to be hilarious.

And what about the second rumor? The one that says I secretly love to hear Johnny the Intern sing?

No. It is not true. I would much rather watch the second season of Lost over and over again, than listen to another of his interpretations of Iron Maiden’s Run to the Hills. I think you get the picture.

It seems being at sea for two weeks, drinking pretty much only water has changed Johnny the Intern. Not mentally, no. But he has lost like 20 pounds, and he’s weak and tired and hasn’t gotten off the couch yet. Lunki had to go to the computer store himself to pick up an order we placed.

I’m watching the phone, waiting for Swedish Television to call. I’m sitting real close, because I’m afraid I might not hear because of the sounds coming from Johnny the Intern when he sleeps.

Imagine a rabid bear being attacked by a wood chipper. And when he’s not snoring he sings Iron Maiden songs. I only thought he did that when he was doing the dishes, but I guess he’s doing it in his dreams too.

For me it’s a living nightmare and I am sooo tempted to do what Johnny the Intern dreamily instructs me to do; run to the hills.

Skriver här ett öppet brev till dig angående din nya Nike+ utmaning. Har du verkligen tänkt igenom det här beslutet? Det låter kanske inte så mycket med 666 miles, men enligt omvandlaren (som du kan hitta här) så är 666 miles lika med…. *trumvirvel* 1071.823 kilometer!! Alltså, 107 mil! Detta är inte gjort i en handvändning. Du som har svårt att komma upp i 100 kilometer på en månad…. Vi snackar 10 månader här…

Men det är ju klart, det kanske är dags att sätta fart med tanke på Lidingö.

Idag var planen att bege mig ut o köra lite men jag stöp vid målsnöret. Kom inte iväg ut alltså. Tänkte stivka ut innan fotbollen idag (så här efteråt kunde jag iochförsig stuckit ut medans fotbollen..)  men jag var väldans sliten efter en hård arbetsdag och lite för lite sömn och lite annat så jag valde att trolla bort lite partitioner på datorn istället. Först d: sen c: på nåt vänster för att till slut hitta c: så jag fick igång xp igen och kunde leta fram d: så var jag tillbaka ungefär, ganska precis där jag började 1,5 timmar tidigare.. yes!

Ligger lågt med löpningen och nu känns det tungt för nu finns inte suget kvar i kroppen. Förmodligen för att det gått så himla tungt dom senaste vändorna. Inte alls kul. Däremot fick jag klättra lite i måndags och det var både kul och jobbigt. Känns som ett riktigt bra komplement med tanke på att men använder hela kroppen (underarmar, överarmar, axlar, rygg, bål o ben o hela faderutten) Skitskoj var det verkligen. Av nån anledning köpte vi tio kort dessutom så det vill ju till att det blir 9 gånger till inom en snar framtid.

Nej imorrn ska jag ut, idag började nämligen den nya utmaningen på nike+: Run to the hills! Det innebär att vi är tre lag (helt random människor runt om i världen) med två personer i varje som ska ta sig 666 miles. Först i mål vinner. Barnsligt maiden-fan som jag är så kunde jag inte motstå utmaninen. Uppdateringar kommer!

Johnny the Intern has a lot of “qualities”.

1. He makes bad coffee.

2. He is quite incompetent when it comes to technology, especially when it comes to a video camera.

3. He hums and half-sings Iron Maiden’s Run to the Hills pretty much all the time. Especially when he’s doing the dishes, which he does poorly as well.

4. He is a hardcore supporter of the football/soccer team Liverpool, and his performance here at the office depends on how their last game went. Recently he has just been moping around.

Up to this point the strongest reason for us to keep him, is that he is an Intern, and doesn’t get paid. But recently a new reason has emerged. In this months edition of Match, a free sports magazine here in Sweden, I found a picture of Johnny the Intern posing with legendary Liverpool footballer Glenn Hysén and Alan Kennedy.

It seems that Johnny the Intern have some celebrity connections. And that means he’s here to stay.

Hoje o nosso Rock to the World tratará da grande banda de metal Iron Maiden.

O clipe que escolhi é o “Run to the Hills”, uma das minhas favortias do grupo e uma das músicas que fez mais sucesso. Esta no cd “The Number of the Beast”, lançado em 1982 e considerado um dos melhores e mais conhecidos projetos da banda.  A música trata da batalha entre os nativos americanos contra os invasores brancos. Curtam:

Sabe quando uma música de uma banda casa com um vídeo de outra completamente diferente? A gente nunca imaginou que faria isso, mas dia desses fizemos!

Assim, chiveta juntou os britânicos do Iron Maiden com os suecos do The Sounds, tocando, respectivamente, Run To The Hills (do clássico The Number Of The Beast) e Underground (presente em Crossing the Rubicon), nascendo…

So, the theme mixes continue and I realize I really enjoy the challenge of piecing these together. The hidden theme on this one is father’s day. Well, of course, because that’s when I’m making it and for my pa. Follow the track letters down and it spells a surprise! These are all songs my dad really enjoys. We were listening to a much longer mix and pieced this together from that from his reactions and things he and I grew up listening to together. We have fond memories going to one of our first concerts together (Metallica, ACDC), some of our earliest shared listening (Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden), recording me playing drums in the basement (Rush, Dream Theatre) and even a Father’s Day concert past (Black Sabbath). Great memories and hopefully a mix he truly appreciates too.

Just got back from the one-day only screening of Flight 666, the Iron Maiden documentary about their 2008 tour. If this ever comes around again in theaters…and one of the creators hinted that it might…you have to go see it.  Even if you’re not an Iron Maiden fan (…uhm really?…Take two “Run to the Hills” and call me in the morning) you’ll get a kick out if it.

Now you might be thinking…what does this have to do with cruisers or BMX? Well my friends, watch this segue. The Iron Maiden-inspired graphics on the Fit Eddie Cleveland frame seem to be what’s missing on those shiny chrome ‘09 Fit CR24s that are out now. I think Robbie Morales needs to get his act together and make that happen…it’s the least he could do for not featuring the CR24 anywhere in the  Stay Fit video.  See that segue? Magic!

A sirene de ataque aéreo – apelido do vocalista  Bruce Dickinson -começou a funcionar pra valer no terceiro disco do Iron Maiden, estreia do cantor na banda inglesa. The Number of the Beast (ouça trechos aqui) foi o primeiro álbum  nº1 do Iron (nas paradas inglesas). Primeiro Top 40 nos EUA. É aquele disco que  mesmo revistas e livros não especializados em rock pauleira elegem para falar do Maiden. Não é à toa que Number mereceu um programa da série Classic Albums, já lançado em DVD no Brasil. Aqui não tem Prodigal Son nem instrumentais. É pau puro, desde a faixa 1, Invaders, até a última, Hallowed Be Thy Name, um clássico de Steve Harris, cheio de mudanças de ritmo e clima, sobre um homem no corredor da morte.  Agora, além do apelo da capa (Derek Riggs), teve dois singles fortíssimos.

Run to the Hills foi o primeiro, em 12/02/82,aliás, o primeiro pedaço de vinil do Iron com vocal de Bruce. Começou a formatar uma espécie de fórmula de singles de sucesso da Donzela de Ferro: músicas curtas, diretas, metal veloz e pesado, refrões que grudam. 

No lado B, Total Eclipse um heavy metal brabo, à la Judas Priest, rara parceria do guitar hero Dave Murray e do batera Clive Burr com Harris. Reedições em CD do  álbum Number of the Beast incluem esta pauleira infernal.

Por falar nesse tema, “666, the number of the beast, hell and fire…” a banda liderada por Steve Harris ganhou fama de satanista por causa das capas de 1982 e do seu grande hit, The Number of the Beast.

O compacto que tem na capa de Derek Riggs a mascote Eddie brincando com fogo, digo, com a cabeça do diabo, saiu em 26 de abril de 82. E show que é show do Iron não costuma ficar sem o hit – macabro de brincadeirinha. É claro que Steve Harris nega ser satanista. É tudo humor (negro) britânico. Tanto é que no lado B tem uma balada, ainda que uma power ballad. Remember Tomorrow, ao vivo, com voz de Bruce Dickinson.

Quase todo esse material de 1982 pode ser curtido em disco e vídeo da turnê The Beast on the Road. O show no Hammersmith Odeon de Londres virou CD duplo, na caixa Eddie´s Archive.  E parte do mesmo show está no DVD The Early Days. O show da banda no Reading Festival, em 1982, aparece em parte no CD duplo BBC Archives, já tratado no post Iron Maiden 0.1. A turnê foi um dos últimos passos de Clive Burr como baterista da Donzela. Ele seria substituído pouco antes de a banda gravar o quarto disco por Nicko McBrain.
