Levels of inspection

First off Inspection

Inspection is usually performed on the first of a series of fabricated/ manufactured items. The following checks are generally performed by the Inspecting staff member:

correct drawing issue/revision;

use of drawing register;

dimensional conformance;

material conformity (correct material certification);

welding workmanship and procedures, where applicable;

correct finish;

correct surface treatment, where applicable;

configuration in accordance with requirements;

performance of testing, where applicable;

documentation such as ITP’s, test reports etc.

validity of the calibration status of inspection, measuring and test equipment.

In-process Inspection

At all times the inspection must be carried out to the nominated ITP Inspection Points.

Inspections should guarantee that Vendors are collating the required Material Test Certificates and other records for MDR’s, and following their own procedures for the works being carried out. All inspections should be recorded on a Quality Inspection Report (CORP-QM-FO-G-0003) and circulated to the Fabrication Coordinator.

Where surface treatment (painting) is subcontracted to another supplier by the supplier/subcontractor, random inspection is recommended at the surface treatment facility.

Final Inspection and Release

Generally, the final inspection is carried out prior to release.

At the final inspection the Inspector shall ensure that:

all documents are completed and signed off;

a thorough dimensional and configuration check of the item/s is performed to ensure compliance with ITP, drawing and specification requirements;

the loading and packaging are as specified by the contract;

any non-conformances have been closed out;

the supplier/subcontractor’s inspection, measuring and test equipment had valid calibration status at time of use;

Delivery advice/Package List; and

Shipping information requirement (if required).

After the final inspection has been conducted, it is the responsibility of the Fabrication Coordinator to ensure that the vendor complies with their contractual requirements in regards to Final Quality Records and the Manufacturer’s Data Report (MDR) as recorded in the contract documentation.

MDRs will be obtained from the supplier/subcontractor as per the Procedure for the Submission of Manufacturing Data Reports (QCLNG-BX00-QCL-PCE-00012).

Inspection reports

Inspections carried out on the subcontractors by the Inspecting staff member are to be documented in Quality Inspection Report (CORP-QM-FO-G-0003) together with any associated surveillance records (as applicable). All inspection reports will be reviewed by the Fabrication Coordinator for:

conformance/non-conformance of item;

action items listed by the inspector;

extent of inspection;

adequacy of inspection reporting; and

Suitably authorised release of specification hold points.

Any outstanding major non-conformances shall be resolved prior to delivery of goods.

Minor defects may be handled using one of the approved reports or records.

Following delivery to site the products shall be checked against any reports to ensure that any defects were rectified.

Non-conformance reporting

Copies of non-conformance reports (NCR) raised by supplier/subcontractor and relating to the works being carried out, shall be forwarded to the Fabrication Coordinator for information and review.

Any non-conformance discovered by inspection staff shall be dealt with as detailed in the Non-conformance reporting (CORP-QM-BP-G-0004) and documented on Non-conformance Report (CORP-QM-FO-G-0005) by the Inspecting/Expediting staff member. A copy of the non-conformance report shall be forwarded to the subcontractor for disposition (and the original returned to the Fabrication Coordinator).

Upon satisfactory disposition by the supplier/subcontractor, the Inspecting staff member responsible shall verify/re-inspect the item/s prior to closing the NCR

Applicants must be local or adjacent to the area of the work site and eligible to work in Australia.

Fact or Fiction? Before the belt-systems we understand today, there was no “black belt.” All martial artists would begin with white belts. Through dedication, dirt and hard work their belts would eventually turn black!

Well the stats are in and there were two sets of buyers that attended my open house at 3135 Donard Court in Murfreesboro, TN yesterday. Both seemed interested in the property and hopefully they will both turn into buyers for me. I’m happy to see that people are coming out in the cold and in the month of January to look at houses.

Very positive news and very inspiring. Can’t wait to do more open houses. If you know anyone that is interested in selling their home or buying a home please have them call me for results in Rutherford County. Kim Reynolds 615-556-1511 Direct/615-893-1130. I appreciate referrals and would be glad to help.

Humanity is drawn to several pervasive elements. Circles (also incorporating oscillations, rhythms,

Humanity is drawn to several pervasive elements. Circles (also incorporating oscillations, rhythms, recurring sequences, cycles and vibrations), Unity (oneness, harmony, cooperation, categorisation) and Control (dominion, security, unequal relationships). There might possibly be more but these are very evident in human behaviour, history and societies which flow out of them.

Thus, it must come as no surprise to us that we as conscious, self-aware beings (in contrast to most evidence from other organisms), from time to time crave a unifying theory; one which makes intrinsic sense of the world around us.

It is, in my profoundly humble opinion, likely that we will find such a theory because we, as people need one. Being resourceful is one of the key traits of human beings. Given enough time, we always seem to find what we need, whether that be money, materials, solutions to problems, understanding about the world around us or devising more cruel and unusual ways to satisfy our third pervasion: to create and maintain unequal relationships sometimes by finding more effective ways to kill each other.

So is a theory of everything necessarily linked to the human experience and its pervasions? Perhaps not, though man has rarely eschewed anthropomorphism in developing an understanding of the world. Our ‘rainbow’ is based on the colours visible to the human eye (fair enough), the emotions of animals opined to be analogous to ours, based on their facial expressions (not fair enough, dogs, for example are not ‘laughing’ when they pant, they are removing excess body heat through evaporative cooling).

However, for the sake of the exercise, let’s assume that a theory of the nature of the energy, matter and, perhaps, otherwise, in the universe does intersect with human tendencies to make sense of the world. On what basis do we have a unifying theory?

It occurred to me in 2002, walking along Statue Square in Hong Kong with a mate of mine, James Milner-Smith in a related conversation that in the beginning was oscillation and coded communication. ‘Life, the universe and everything’ was really, as was becoming apparent, about circles and communication to those who could understand the codes produced.

You see modern Chemistry, of which I am reasonably familiar, was profoundly altered by the consecutive discoveries of the periodic table (Mendeleev), the existence of the electron (John Joseph Thomson), neutron (Rutherford), proton (Chadwick) and the nature of energy and the movement of electrons in the atom ( Planck, Bohr, Schroedinger et alia). This knowledge revealed both cycles/repeating patterns and unity, the concept that the (unique) whole is made of interconnected but fundamentally similar building blocks.

Likewise, in Biology, it was some time after Darwinian theory that the tidal wave of knowledge on genetics and inheritance erupted. What was found? Uniqueness was the result of repetitive patterns of only four base nucleotides broken by other such patterns to transcribe the complete diversity of millions of organisms on our planet.

Finally, in Physics, we now realise that the components at the fundamental level that make up the matter and energy in the universe are intrinsically related. Einstein’s most famous of contributions eloquently described one facet of this: Linking, in a profoundly simple manner, the concepts of matter and energy as they appear mathematically to relate to each other.

Contemporary ‘string’ theory, all five of them, describe quite well the nature of the building blocks of matter, as they relate to the (relatively) small set of fundamental forces which exist in the universe we experience. Ironically, as with the genetic code, there are four fundamental, generally agreed upon forces (Electromagnetic, Strong Nuclear, Weak Nuclear and Gravity).

Again, at the most fundamental level, we see that ‘strings’ are oscillations with structure. Energetic stuff you make make other stuff from, basically. Do we understand them? No, not really, not yet. Will we ever? Probably, because, as previously stated, we are intrigued by understanding it, we want to understand it and therefore we either will understand it or have a system of thought that very much appears that we do. I hope that makes sense.

If it follows other areas of human investigation then we will probably add uncoding to the oscillating patterns that the fundamental particles of the universe are showing us and then we will ‘get’ that just like we do the reason what elements are different or why you have blue eyes and no one else in your family does (or consequently perhaps, why your mum and dad got divorced!).

If you found that last comment funny or interesting, that brings me to the next point about approaching a theory of absolutely everything. Edward De Bono is a prodigious and ground-breaking thinker and he knows it. He also suggested, some decades ago, that understanding the nature of the brain may not be as necessarily complex as we first thought (or, more correctly, as we thought in the middle of the 20th Century). Indeed, he suggests that the brain is more or less a self-organising system where billions of nerve cells are linked to each other in an immense network.

Not only are many cells linked, but the way we think is very cyclic. We return on familar paths linked to other parts of the brain. Once stimulated, those nerve cells (or neurones) remain more sensitised to further stimulation, thus less stimulus is required thereafter to produce the same ‘action potential’ or likelihood for another response initiated by those same nerves. To put it simply, if you are already scared, most tiny ‘abnormalities’ in your environment will set you off again. Or in a ‘laughing fit’ you will laugh at things that in another setting would not be funny at all. Social pressure or known constructs can even make this reaction worse (like giggling fits by actors in movie ‘takes’ or being lost in the wilderness and needing to stay calm to stay alive more easily to avoid injury).

The very reason why a joke is funny is that your brain tries to predict the ending, the likely thread of the joke and, when jarred by good linguistic skill, timing and non-verbal communication, the outcome is at odds. The brain finds this rewarding and releases L-dopamine (the ‘reward’ drug) and serotonin (the ‘happy’ drug) and the event is likely to be laid down in more permanent memory, possibly even producing the same (or even greater) emotional reaction when recalled, shared or retold.

Herein lies the paradox, however. Our brains seem to crave new stimulation and engagement (well-established in the literature for healthy brain development in infants) however, it tends to self-organise into recognisable patterns, unifying and overlapping new information until it can be assimilated without drawing attention to it all the time.

We seem to struggle when we can’t ‘package up and store away’ thoughts. We have a need to unify or harmonise experience with that we already have, so that they may become quickly unconscious (completely oblivious to us on a regular basis) or subconscious (deep enough to not affect ordinary Cerebral Cortex stimulation on a level that the individual is aware of).

So where does this lead us with our ‘theory of absolutely everything’? The brain desires ‘order’ (unity), but is stimulated by oscillation (thought processes which connect at neurones where activity was orginally stimulated). In fact, it is the disruption of predictable cycles that can cause neuronal interest, the probability that permanent memories will be laid down and even the growth of new neurones, neuroplasticity.

Finally, our brains desire control. The world must make sense or the brain can not function properly on day to day tasks. You can see the clear implication for psychological impairment and illness here. If the brain is fixated on meaningless detail that leads to superstitious or ritualistic thought/behaviour then obsessions/compulsions arise. If thoughts lead to irrational fears, that can’t be reconciled with the Cerebral Cortex with the commensurate level of physiological sensitisation then neurosis and phobias are likely. If cognition is fractured and unable to be determined as coming from within the brain or outside the brain, then schizoid disorders are possible. Similarly for mood disorders, when the cognition affects the release, inhibition or reuptake of hormones which will consequently affect emotion (and, cyclicly, the cognition) then mood disorders like Depression are implicated.

So the human mind is concerned with the maintenance of reliable cycles, keeping ideas and experience unified and, above all, under control. Can we, however, extrapolate this to society?

It is perhaps a cheap starting point to suggest that ‘history repeats’ nevertheless to some degree this is the case. What makes certain periods of history exceptional however is usually of two types:

a) Where History has demonstrably shown the very same fundamental problem, error or action that has led to similar consequences in the future. The idea of humanity, for example to build physical walls to separate people at tremendous expense, labour and time only to find them inadequate for the purpose intended. (examples include the Great Wall, Berlin Wall, most prison walls eventually).

b) Where thinking, behaviour or emotion has been so absolutely contrary to what might be expected in the circumstance. For example, Hannibal using Elephants in battle or Christopher Columbus using his knowledge of both eclipses and local Jamaican superstition to continue the provisioning of his crew under threat of ‘blotting out the sun’.

In such cases, there is a certain logical circularity, even a sense of irony. One in the incredible resilience of the cycle, despite opportunities to learn from such experiences. In the other, the incredible departure from the norm.

It was in precisely this way that many ground-breaking discoveries have been made. By refusing to be contrained by apparent patterns in atomic behaviour, Dmitri Mendeleev, the famous Ukrainian Chemist was able to not only map elements in a cohesive (unified) manner but uncover as yet undiscovered elements (to complete the many cycles that exist in the table) and allow mankind to dominate through this knowledge (control).

In politics, we find the same principles at play. Voters swing, we use pendula to represent the behaviour of voters. When there is a dramatic change, we are interested, history is laid down. When the sense of control over our lives is too low, or too high, we feel uncomfortable as citizens, regardless of the system of government.

In economics, we often describe the cycles that occur and theories abound to attempt to unify and make sense of the behaviour of people buying and selling. There is a very real sense that the Holy Grail of economics to find a unifying model or theory which could enable one to take advantage of the market or enable control over it for financial, political or social advantage (the tendency to create or maintain unequal relationships).

This is a long (typical) and not-remotely-funny post (hopefully atypical!) on this blog. However, I trust that readers might see at least a seed of cohesion about not only the universe but a universe with human thought, mood and behaviour in it and how it might operate. In addition, we can see that the three pervasions that I opened with (again, another oscillation!) are perhaps worked through many fields of human endeavour, society and the universe itself.

We could almost go as far as to say that as the universe grows through cycles, disruption of those cycles, of unity and the disruption of that unity and through periods of control and disruption of that control. Could it be the case that the impact of human beings on their world, each other and even in their own minds follows a similar set of pervasions and disruptions?

Is it possible that matter and energy dances rhythmically and with unpredictable disruption to such patterns? If we learn to read this ‘dance’ to what degree would it change anything? Could Unity, Oscillation and Control be quantified to explain how things happen both at the fundamental scale with matter and energy and in human, global terms?

What role does understanding therefore play? Eventually we work out how to read such pervasions. In doing so it does not make us ‘God’ (after all, we did not initiate such coded communication), it does not ensure permanent enlightenment (we struggle with wisdom possibly more that anything else) and it does not ensure that by manipulating this understanding that we can make any part of the world or universe necessarily better.

What it does do, however is make just a bit more of this universe we experience make a bit more sense. It feels good enough to stash into the subconscious and stop bugging us for a while.

Dust? Really? What is going on? What happened to wine? Trying to figure out if you are in the right blog? Don’t worry, you are. But – actually, I intend to talk about dust – Rutherford Dust it is.

Have you heard this expression before – Rutherford dust? This is the terminology often used to describe mouthfeel of the wines made in the Rutherford AVA in Napa Valley. Some say it is the taste, some say it is the texture – it seems that Rutherford dust means different things to different people. But as a common ground, people agree that wines of Rutherford AVA have some qualities which are not found among the wines from other areas of Napa Valley.

Andre Tchelistcheff, legendary winemaker of Beaulieu Vineyards and one of the founding fathers of California wine industry, is usually credited with coining the term “Rutherford dust”. Interestingly enough, according to this article, Tschelistceff only referred to the Rutherford dust as a terroir, but – you will need to let your taste buds to guide you to argue that point.

About a month ago, during one of my trips to California, I had an opportunity to visit Beaulieu Vineyards (BV) in Rutherford, where Andre Tchelistcheff worked as a winemaker from 1938 until his retirement in 1973. As you enter tasting room at BV, Andre Tchelistcheff himself greets you:

BV makes a number different lines of wines, starting from introductory BV Coastal, going to “Maestro” series, which is available only at the winery or through the club, and continuing to the Reserve line.

We tasted through the whole Reserve line, and these are the notes I want to share with you.

We started with 2009 BV Carneros Reserve Chardonnay, which was beautiful, round and clean, with just enough of vanilla and butter to maintain balance. Next we tried 2010 BV Carneros Reserve Pinot Noir. Actually, I had no idea BV even makes Pinot Noir- but now I know, and I will look for it. This wine was beautiful, round and polished, with restrained fruit, silky smooth tannins – very balanced and very drinkable. 2009 BV Tapestry Reserve – a classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot and Malbec – was outstanding, perfectly Bordeaux style, but softer, more approachable.

Then we tasted 2009 Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon – and it was the moment when “Rutherford dust” went on like a light bulb in my head. I only heard the expression before, but never experienced it – and until I tasted this wine, I had no idea what the Rutherford dust is. This was probably single best Cabernet Sauvignon I tasted throughout this year (well, almost – keep on reading). It had everything the Cabernet should have in my opinion – mint, eucalyptus, black currant, supple tannins, perfect balance – and the texture of the tiny particles on my tongue. This was my “Rutherford dust” moment – I don’t know if Andre Tchelistcheff was talking strictly about the terroir – this wine had something which I never tasted before, so for me it was that “Rutherford dust”.

And then there were clones:

Again, I learned something new here. Yes, I had various encounters with grape clones before – Riesling clones, Sauvignon Blanc clones, such as soliloquy, Wente Chardonnay clone – but I didn’t have an experience with Cabernet Sauvignon clones. It appears that there are a number of the clones (here is a good link if you want to learn more about that concept of clones), all originating from the different places and thus bringing some unique characteristics to the resulting wine.

We tasted 2007 BV Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4, where the vines were originally from Bordeaux, then found home in Mendoza, Argentina, and now are officially known as Mendoza clone. Clone 4 is a primary foundation of the Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, and has similar characteristics to the wine I described above.

Then we tasted 2007 BV Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 6, which was just something else.

Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from abandoned and then rediscovered plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon in Jackson, California. This wine was simply amazing, with the nose of dark roasted coffee, mocha, a touch of bitterness, silky smooth and perfectly balanced, giving you an absolutely luxurious mouthfeel. For me, this wine was definitely rivaling Georges de Latour Private Reserve we tasted before, and I already claimed that the first one was the best Cabernet of the whole year… Tough choice, huh?

And then there were older vintages.

2000 Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon had more pronounced acidity than the 2009, and fruit showed a bit tame, but overall the wine still had perfect balance and was very enjoyable.

1997 Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon had beautiful fruit, the same Rutherford dust texture as 2009, and it actually needed time to open up, as the bottle was freshly opened.

Just to share a few more pictures with you – here is a beautiful Holidays-ready display at the winery:

And if you ever want to make me a present, this box will make me happy – very happy, I have to add:

There you have it, folks – we had an amazing time at Beaulieu Vineyards. This was my second visit to BV – last time I discovered Maestro series wines, which were also great, but tasting through the Private Reserve collection was just an outstanding experience. If I would be able to afford it, I think Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cab would be my every day wine – at $125 (winery price), this is not happening any time soon. Of well, but then there are holidays …

Our next stop was for lunch, and we simply had to walk across the parking lot – to the Rutherford Grill. I heard the name before, but never visited it, so it was very exciting to try one of the Napa Valley well-known restaurants. To give you a quick summary, the food, service and atmosphere were all great – you should definitely put it on your destinations list if you will be in the area. Here are few of the food pictures.

Warm Focaccia bread with olives:

Chili (perfectly spicy and delicious):

I had a burger:

And my wife went for the Grilled chicken salad:

To tell you the truth, I have another “first time” experience to add here – it would be vineyards in the fall. I always admired beautiful pictures of the vines in the fall with all the colorful leaves. These time, I found some to claim my own:

After lunch, we made another stop for tasting – this time at Provenance vineyards. We tasted through the whole portfolio of Provenance and Hewitt wines – and while some of them were good, overall they were not anywhere close to the BV experience, hence I will skip the write up.

Last experience of the trip was quick stop on the way back at a small town of Yountville. We didn’t do much there, just walked around for a few minutes, and I snapped a picture of one of my dream destination (I will let you guess what it is, but you will read the answer right on the picture below:

That’s all folks – this was my experience with the Rutherford dust. Have you tried the wines from Rutherford or may be even the same BV wines – what do you think? Did you taste the dust there? Cheers!

10 tips for safe stretching

Here are some tips for how to do it properly.
1.	Stretch for 10 minutes every day. Regular stretching improves your balance, strength and flexibility.
2.	Get advice to avoid injury. Check with your doctor or health professional before stretching if you have an injury, are unsure of how to stretch properly or have had a previous injury.
3.	Warm up your muscles before stretching. Try 10 minutes of gentle exercise like walking. Stretching cold muscles may result in injury.
4.	Hold a sustained stretch for 10 to 30 seconds. Don’t bounce when stretching. Overstretching causes muscle to contract and can cause small tears in fibers.
5.	Only stretch to the point of mild discomfort. Once your muscle feels comfortable, increase the stretch then hold it again. If it hurts, you’re pushing too hard.
6.	Breathe normally when stretching. Don’t try to hold your breath or perform special breathing exercises.
7.	Balance your routine. Work opposing muscle groups each time you stretch. If you start by stretching the muscles in the back of your thigh, then follow by stretching the muscles at the front.
8.	Prevent boredom. Add variety to your routine by increasing your stretching repertoire. For example, you could join a yoga class or visit your local physiotherapist for new stretches.
9.	Include stretching in your daily routine. Gentle stretching can improve your circulation and a steady blood flow helps reduce muscle tension and soreness.
10.	Make stretching part of your other warm-up and cool-down activities. It will help put you in the right frame of mind before exercise and help you relax afterwards.

Robert Murray M’Cheyne (1813-1843) was a Scottish pastor and missionary. He is remembered in the biography by Andrew Bonar, his colleague and friend. Andrew Bonar writes his biography from personal experience and from M’Cheyne’s journal. I recently read this biography and was greatly encouraged by the godly example of M’Cheyne. I would like to pass along some quotes from that biography to you. You can get the biography for Kindle here (for free!).

Note: Andrew Bonar was the brother of Horatius Bonar and John Bonar. All three of them were ministers in Scotland. You may know Horatius Bonar as the author of the hymn I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say.

I noticed that the books that M’Cheyne enjoyed were The Life and Dairy of David Brainerd, The Works of Jonathan Edwards, Charles Bridge’s The Christian Ministry, and The Letters of Samuel Rutherford. The Purtian Richard Baxter is also mentioned. These at least were noted in his journal, and then included by Bonar.

This following quote seems like a personal mission statement (as we would call it today):

“I am persuaded that I shall obtain the highest amount of present happiness, I shall do most for God’s glory and the good of man, and I shall have the fullest reward in eternity, by maintaining a conscience always washed in Christ’s blood, by being filled with the Holy Spirit at all times, and by attaining the most entire likeness to Christ in mind, will, and heart, that is possible for a redeemed sinner to attain to in this world.”

Quotes on communion with God:

“In general, it is best to have at least one hour alone with God, before engaging in anything else.”

“I am persuaded that I ought never to do anything without prayer, and, if possible, special, secret prayer.”

“Never see the face of man till you have seen his face who is our life, our all.”

“Pray for me, that I may be made holier and wiser–less like myself, and more like my heavenly Master.”

Quotes on ministry:

“In his esteem, ‘to be in Christ before being in the ministry was a thing indispensable.”

“I see a man cannot be a faithful minister, until he preaches Christ for Christ’s sake–until he gives up striving to attract people to himself, and seeks only to attract them to Christ. Lord, give me this!”

“It was noticed long ago that men will give you leave to preach against their sins as much as you will, if so be you will but be easy with them when you have done, and talk as they do, and live as they live.”

“I am just an interpreter of Scripture in my sermons; and when the Bible runs dry, then I shall.”

“Now, God wants you to think that the only end of a gospel ministry is that you may be holy. Believe me, God himself could not make you happy except you be holy.”

There is much meat to nourish the soul in this biography. I encourage you to read it!

Cabernet reigns supreme in the area of the Napa Valley known as “The Rutherford Bench.” And, it is said that the Rutherford Dust gives the wine its berry and spicy taste.

This warm stretch of Napa is primo tasting-room territory. It is certainly the destination for cabernet lovers. Rutherford is the part of the Napa Valley that gets seriously warm in the summer and the cabernets get serious about their robust flavor. As a matter of fact, 71% of the grapes planted in the Rutherford appellation are cabernet sauvignon.

Rutherford is a huge appellation. It spans the width of the Napa Valley, and it was home to some of the pioneering wine families in Napa.

A few of the wineries you might enjoy are Peju Province Winery. Its French provincial architecture and trees that curve over the road are like a magic gate. Frog’s Leap Winery is one of the best in organic farming practices. (It also has a big vegetable and organic fruit gardens. Visitors are invited to help themselves.) Frog’s Leap is a fun winery. It has a lovely restored 100-year-old red barn that was home to the Adamson winery 100 years ago.

And then there is Rubicon Estate Winery. It is part Hollywood, complete with red carpet to the door, and part history. Francis Ford Coppola bought the estate that was then Inglenook, and put his own spin on it. The original winery there was established in 1871 and founded by George Yount. It was Yount’s family who planted the first Napa vines in 1838.

The land is ideal. It took 20 years for the Coppola’s to buy bits and pieces of the original Inglenook estate. By 1994 the original winery was one tract again. During this time, the winery created a powerful Bordeaux blend called Rubicon.

While in the Rutherford area, stop by Mumm, Napa Valley. Sitting on the Silverado Trail, their redwood building is low key. (Mumm owns more than 50 vineyards in the Napa Valley.) Relax on their terrace overlooking the Rutherford appellation. What better way to enjoy the generous bounty of life than watching the sun set over the hills with a glass of sparkling champagne?
