All right. Brief foray into a day of negativity. So, as may or may not have been noted in previous l

All right. Brief foray into a day of negativity.

So, as may or may not have been noted in previous long medical history post, due to the amount of antibiotics that have been pumped through my body over the last year or two, my GI tract has been having some major functional errors. By which I mean pain whenever I eat, and a lot of times even when I don’t. Pain when I drink cold liquids, acidic liquids, very hot liquids. Pain with medicine. So, I did what anyone would do and saw a gastroenterologist, who promptly scheduled me for a combined endoscopy and colonoscopy (coming up December 7th – that’s going to be a fun blog post, I’m sure) due to some other unpleasant occurrences that are slightly worrisome.

I got a notice in the mail today saying that I owe $300 for the consult because I was “not eligible for coverage at this time.” Suffice it to say that I am, in fact, eligible, but for whatever reason there is a hang-up or mis-communication or otherwise ridiculous screw-up that now has Blue Cross thinking I am going to pay them $300. Let the records show I am unimpressed.

Additionally, when I went to the doctor in New York, he gave me three prescriptions to fill: one for Mepron, one for Zithromax, and one for an intramuscular injection medication. After J took time out of her schedule to drop off the RXs and wait for an hour – which is how long the pharmacy said it would take – they then informed her that they could not in fact fill any of the RXs that day and would need to order them, but could not do that until they talked to the doctor, whose handwriting they were unable to read regarding dosages.

Ok, fine. It happens. But today J gets a call (why they are constantly calling her and not me, I do not understand) saying that the Mepron was declined by insurance because I have “reached my limit”…..excuse me? I could understand if I was re-filling a narcotics prescription a week after the last time I had done so, but why anyone would want to drink EXTRA of this nasty, “citrus”-flavored liquid sludge is beyond me. And in any case, my insurance recently switched from Aetna to Blue Cross, and I have never filled this RX under the new company. So why the hang-up? I don’t understand, but it means I go another handful of days without starting the new regimen, and that’s extremely frustrating.

Yes, critics, I recognize that had I dropped them off the day I got back, this would have been settled by now. It doesn’t stop it from being a huge pain in the butt, though, and I am tired of coverage being subjective. I recognize that I am lucky to have insurance, but when I’m racking up hundreds of dollars in consults and can’t get the medication I need, it does create some intense frustration.

Positive outlook will return tomorrow. My apologies.

Best,

I have one word for Microsoft on PDC 2009: Awesomeness! This years Product Developers Conference was

I have one word for Microsoft on PDC 2009:

Awesomeness!

This years Product Developers Conference was much scaled back compared to last years but it had a great innovation in format that allowed people who didn’t attend the conference physically to still interact with it virtually.

And so the good folks at Channel 9 had built up a talkshow like studio at the PDC, with live streaming video through Silverlight, and the ability to viewers to ask questions live on air via Twitter.

This was immensely fun. I had the opportunity to ask questions to at least two technical fellows at Microsoft. Technical Fellow is the highest technical ranking at Microsoft besides of course Chief Technical Architect, a position which is currently held by Ray Ozzie.

I asked a question to Patrick Dussud, Technical Fellow and lead architect of the .Net Common Language Runtime (CLR), designer of the CLR GC and a member of the Windows Core Architechture team. The question was about how how parallel you could make the GC and what possible downsides this had.

I also asked a question to David Campbell, another Technical Fellow, from the Business Platform Division (BPD) where he manages Microsoft SQL Azure and .Net services in the cloud computing space. This question was about whether databases (e.g. SQL Server), programming runtimes (e.g. CLR) and … are merging. David mentiond that MSIL/CIL bytecode execution on SQL Server – “close to the data” – has improved performance of managed code accessing data greatly.

LINQ shows us where things are going: tighter and tighter integration. Erik Meijer, who is perhaps the lead architect of LINQ and whom I was also able to ask a question, also works for David Campbell on cloud programmability. The new Reactive Extensions (Rx) for .Net is a pearl which we’ll see permeate .Net soon. It also builds smoothly on top of Parallel Extensions for .Net (Px), which is Microsoft’s near- to mid-term answer to the manycore challenge.

Parallel Extensions for .Net comes from the Parallel Computing Platform (PCP) team which is the team tasked with the strategic challenge posed by the massively parallel hardware of the future.

It gets better. I also asked a question to the director of NASA’s Mars programme as well as a NASA scientist.

I repeat: Awesomeness!

NASA had a marked pressence at this years PDC because they have offered up data on Microsoft’s new “Dallas” data marketplace. The attendees were apparently given 3D goggles and were viewing stereoscopic images of Mars. Pretty damned cool.

Supposedly recordings of the live Channel 9 stream will be available. I’d certainly like it.

This years PDC will be one tough PDC to outdo.

Totally totally AWESOME.

Legendary Street Fighter player, the best Urien in the world, RX (!!!!!!!!!) payed us a visit here in Brazil.

Maybe that’s why the Yun and the Yang of the world are really unbalanced.

It was unbelievably good playing with him. He is on such a greater level of the game!

He’s mesmerizing to watch, he has extraordinary offense and defense, crazy combos, such elegant and precise execution! Plus, he is such a nice guy!

I was really happy I got the chance to play him in a tournament. At winner’s finals, even!

RX in Brazil. Cruuuuush!

Oh, BTW, I gave him the Urien painting I posted some time ago. It’s been a while without posts, I know, but I’ve been busy… sorry.

RX no Brasil! Cruuuuush!

Cheap Medication Is Readily Available To You Without A Prescription only at www.meds-4-cheap.com The

Cheap Medication Is Readily Available To You Without A Prescription only at www.meds-4-cheap.com The data from the Stevenson Company, a firm doing market researches showed that the number one status on this year’s first quarter had reached 23.2 percent of the market, 1.8% higher than that of the last year.

Following the 23.2% of LG were 22% of Whirlpool, 15% of Kenmore and 11.4% of Maytag. This was according to the research of a firm based in Louisville.

According to the spokesperson of LG Electronic, LG Electronics stays on the top of the market of front-load washer in the US and this has been noted since 2007 first quarter.

Furthermore, LG spokesperson said that LG will continue to supply more washers to USA’s largest retailers like HomeDepot, Sears and Bestbuy because the company believes that that the marketing efforts their group has been doing has been very effective in terms of energy savings, capacity as well as greater convenience.

Aside from that, LG will promote their 16.9 sq.in door washer that boasts of its 4.5 cubic foot capacity, their biggest washer so far and this will have an appeal to more than second half of the consumers in the US market.

The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers stated that the brighter segment for the home laundry these days is represented by front-load washers and these washers now cover more than 35% of the all the washers used in home and residences as well as the dryers shipped to other places.

The official of LG Electronics stated that they prioritize the image as well as the functions and within the coming years, the company hopes to fuel more on the image of their products to maintain the momentum the company is having right now.

However, when it comes to the market of refrigerators, LG Electronics has had troubles because Whirlpool has already asserted that the makers of refrigerators in South Korea has infringed the patents for the quality, performance as well as the structure on the ice dispenser ad food storage features as well.

Accordingly, when a person looks for a washing machine to buy, it is because he needs something to help him with his washing that is why LG Electronics came up with the decision to test their laundry range with bed linen.

Needell & co. sing the MkII’s praises. Jonny Smith continues to be a dreadful presenter, but seeing a mint, forest green MkII being tossed around the corners of a tight and twisty handling circuit make these clips worth watching (just turn off the sound whenever Smith opens his mouth).

We all know that patient compliance is the big, industry and payor, unmet need with estimates for the cost of non compliance running up to $100 billion per year and more importantly 125,000 lives lost.

What is surprising are the different approaches being taken to combat it, the industry has employed increasingly high-tech approaches with the Novartis chip and pill being the latest innovation on the block. http://cli.gs/saVtPE

Contrast this with the recent NHS tactic of paying patients to take their antipsychotic jab http://cli.gs/JjP9qV. A bit more low-tech I think you’ll agree but one which has already shown promising results. Early this year a stop smoking study in Dundee, offering £12.50 per week (for a maximum of 12 weeks) was deemed to be a great success with more people quitting in a month than they had previously been achieved for a whole year! http://cli.gs/Mp0aTh

At Rapp we are used to running large patient adherence programs using digital, text, and traditional channels, what is common to all our successful programs, and is nicely demonstrated by the two NHS initiatives, is that any successful intervention has to have a clear value exchange – a very personal what’s in it for me. Without this however much state-of-the-art wizardry you have won’t improve the problem.

Earlier this year, President Obama and the Congress “invested” about $50 billion of taxpayer money in General Motors for a majority ownership position. This injection was made only after it was clear that no private investors were willing to put money into the failed company.

A recent report in the Wall Street Journal has justified the private investors’ unwillingness to make an investment in GM. After emerging from bankruptcy approximately 3 months ago, GM setup certain metrics or goals to determine its progress. GM has fallen short of some significant goals. First, GM has about 10,000 more workers in the United States that its business plan calls. In addition, GM missed the September 30 goal for finalizing the sale of its Hummer division, as well as a plan to sell its Saturn division to Penske Automotive Group.

In addition, Mark LaNeve, GM sales chief, announced he is leaving GM. Generally, when high-level executives depart, this is a negative indicator of a company’s progress.

Running any business in this hyper competitive world is a complex task. However, when the company is as large as GM, the challenges are only magnified many times. It was naive of the Obama Administration and Congress, neither with any experience running a company, to believe that their takeover of GM would halt a slide that has been occurring for decades. It is likely that more government bailout funds will be going to GM at additional losses to taxpayers.

Before we turn over our healthcare system to the government, we should analyze what has occurred to General Motors since the government inflicted itself upon the company. What we will find is a bad company that got worse at taxpayers’ expense. OK, yes the current healthcare system has flaws. As the GM example indicates, even bad situations can be made worse with the proper governmental effort.

Badanie ‘Internet – realna apteka i kompendium wiedzy medycznej’ obejmowało analizę 2002 wywiadów zebranych online.

Oto kilka ciekawych i ważnych wniosków:

43% badanych w ciągu ostatnich 12 miesięcy nabyło produkty farmaceutyczne online

5% badanych internautów nabyło online lek na receptę: antybiotyk, lek przeciwalergiczny lub przeciwbólowy – co przekłada się na liczbę 800,000 internautów w Polsce,
dla których online jest akceptowalnym kanałem zakupu leku Rx
