“The rhizome is something altogether different, a map and not a tracing. Make maps, not tracings. The orchid doesn’t reproduce a tracing of the wasp, it makes a map with the wasp within a rhizome. If the map is opposed to the trace, it’s because its whole orientation is toward establishing contact with the real experminentally. The map does not reproduce an unconsious closed on itself; it constructs it. It contributes to the connections of fields, the freeing of bodies without organs, and their maximal access onto the plane of consistency. It becomes itself part of the rhizome. The map is open, connectablein all its dimensions, and capable of being dismantled; it is reversible, and susceptible to the constant modification.

Latour Tour - Becoming Invisible

Bethnal Green, an early night in the end of October. The former status of arrival have shifted to a more continuos mode of existence. A more stable temporality that’s finally dare me to be both have an clear edge and at the same time letting my own contours fade when encountering the outside me.

Just a night, like so many others, with an assignment, a cause to travel up the crumbling landscape of SE, crossing the river to the East End (end of what?). Today with the mission to register, to explore the street’s semiotics. Secret maps only read by the initiated. And because I’m neither a photographer nor a pioneer, the mobile cam became the lens through the outside (inside) that required a frame.

Marching the street back and forth (Brick Lane; this obsessional street of myth, which the radical academia, the night flies, the bright young things, the rajahs, translates into The Street par excellence. A strip in a city seduced by the the angry young men, incarnated as the Kray Brothers on one side of the shoreline. A shoreline colored in different shades of white, whereas by crossing the river, you’ll find yourself (white as You!) traveling from Styx to the river Lethe, not being equally keen on boho-embellish the derelict South, likewise the angry young men as Eaton Green.) is a matter of revealing and disguise, of becoming in relation to the narrative of the street. How invisible am I? How invisible can I become? Is there an identity, a history, a representation that I can not disguise, that I will not disguise and make anonymous, but demand to expose to not fade away? A story of a self centered position burning in the borders. Burning into You. Burning into the picture and becoming a footprint on that photo paper, in Your imagination. Extroverted (over)exposed with tripod, objectives, screens, and Olympus as your extremities, which tools encounters the street with a significant self centering of the image long before You stepped into the picture. And with my Tenson, boots and hair burning like the Pharos, I’ll become as centered in the street as the tripoded people, swankily framing the life of the public.

Imagining that my contours fade.

When the mobile cam suddenly burns off and invisibly capture the passers by, nobody notice. Sparking a match and lighting a cigarette for Someone who’s party just started (or never ended). When relaxed lending over a pole with that Jamaican beer in the left and the mobile in the right hand, the faded back Suv with its plate spelling THIEFT smoothly passes by, when the Bengali granny industrious carries her grocery bags home, when the biker boys on their slim racers rides by, when Sara droppes by with bagels from the ancient bakery that never closes, when the firecrackers from diwali has been exchanged for Halloween, my thoughts wander towards Henri Lefebvre’s notion of rhythm.

Time doesn’t follow that fancy watch worn around your arm. Restlessly the biker boys have already rushed into next situation, next trend, the next fixi future. Always anxiously cutting the edge of the day. When granny’s day been lead by the same hour, minute, second hand as long as watchmakers turned up the clock, we don’t follow the same time as the median in Greenwich suggests. But one different from the the bagel bakers grimly uniform never ending story of unleavened bread, the time of the crack whore who plan her life as long the £5 fellatio carries her into the fringed future, as well as my blunt time after hanging around drinking beer thinking of how the passers constitutes a small part of my ticket into a shining future career.

But how visible am I? For the guy that just went by with his posse I’m visible; a hipster babe ready for a night out, hence for the twat almost hitting me when turing round the corner with his van full of veg and fruit I’m not more visible than a swamp mosquito until he suddenly sound his horn which states “I see you, get the f**k out of my way!”, as for my professor I’m embarrassingly visible when trying out the alcohol based inventive method in the middle of the frenzy street. But for her, she that getting sparks in her eyes over a 60’s vintage creation, for the bouncer calling obfuscated tourists into the restaurant with the siren note “Genuine Indian (Bangladeshi) dishes, only the best in London”, and for her that was lost into the ketamine haze long before the dens fog covered the city last night, am I utterly None. A shade of white. (A shade not being aware of until the overrail takes me back to SE14.)

And sometime throughout in the gallop, Someone became as invisible for me.

Srikant showed up all excited to one of our daily afternoon walks in late February, having received a story from one of his friends.

A Taste of Group Politics

Some time back I was sitting in the balcony of my friend’s apartment and sipping scotch on one rainy evening. Naturally the talk shifted to the day of college and University. My friend narrated a story from his university days, which exemplifies the significance of group politics in India. He studied in SK University, Anantpur and was a hostelite. The students in this relatively unknown university have a tradition of traveling in groups by train. If somebody wants to see a place they will simply put up the notice in the hostels and the train timings along with the time to assemble at the railway station. At the prescribed time around 75-100 students would assemble at the railway station and they will board a general compartment (if it is too packed) or at times in to reserved compartment without tickets. Once they reach the destination they part their ways and decide on return date and time. Thus, they used to travel free of cost by trains without any hassles. However, once they did encounter a problem…

One fine morning there was a notice inviting students for a trip to Hampi along with the date and timings. After one week around 80 people assembled at the Anantpur railway station at the assigned time. When the train came, all the 80 students boarded in to reserved compartments and they decided that they would stick to two compartments and they should go beyond those prescribed two compartments. Everything was going on well, when a TC spotted one among them and started hunting him. The spotted one tried to evade the TC by repeatedly changing places, going to toilet and all that. Finally the TC caught him in Bellary station and pulled him out of the train.

However, the remaining 79 students too got down from the town in solidarity with the lone student. They surrounded the TC and started requesting and demanding the lone person be released. TC did not listen to them, assuming train would start at any moment and all of them would board the train. As the TC thought, the train started moving and with lightening speed all the 79 students ran along with the train, got in to the train and pulled the chain. Train stopped with a loud keeeccch sound. After the train stopped again all the 79 students came back and surrounded the TC to release their comrade. TC, realizing, that the students would not allow the train to move, finally he succumbed to their demand and let off the student. All the students gaining victory finally boarded the train. Meanwhile TC called up the Hospet railway station and updated with the happenings of the day and added that 80 students traveling without tickets.

So the Hospet railway authorities posted railway police and some reserve police in order to handle the students as soon as they get down from the train. At the other end, not knowing all this students were happily coming in the train singing and dancing. Morning when they were nearing Hospet, one among them shouted saying this is the way to Hampi. Immediately another fellow pulled the chain and thus they got down at the outskirts of Hospet and proceeded to Hampi. While the students were enjoying in Hampi, the reserve police along with the railway police were waiting for the action of the day on the platforms of Hospet railway station.

Finally, in the evening all the students reached Hospet railway station for their return journey. One of them was approached by a TC and asked him if they were students from Anantpur. With curiosity this person nodded in affirmative and asked the TC why he was enquiring and how did he know about them? Then the TC narrated the entire story from Bellary and the railway police along with reserve police waiting for them whole day in the station and returning with disappointment.

None of the 80 students knew each other, but they have only one unifying force that is they are all students. Secondly, they have strong unwritten rules like trouble for one is trouble for all; trouble for all is trouble for none. That is how they all got down in Bellary station even though not everybody knew the student caught by the TC. That is the strength of group politics. That is how the poor and suppressed groups, in spite of being powerless, still assert themselves in groups within the public space.

Kemarin saya terlibat pembicaraan cukup seru dengan beberapa orang tentang (lagi-lagi) hubungan romantis. Satu hal lagi yang saya pelajari dari sebuah hubungan romantis adalah bahwa :

Dalam sebuah hubungan, kedua belah pihak tidak harus memiliki hobi yang sama, kesukaan yang sama, ataupun passion yang sama terhadap suatu hal. Hal yang paling penting justru bagaimana kedua belah pihak saling menyesuaikan irama satu sama lain, di antara semua kesibukan, semua aktivitas, semua kesukaan dan hobi yang berbeda tersebut. Sehingga, tidak ada pihak yang merasa tertinggal. Jadi, pada dasarnya, kita nggak perlu tuh berusaha (terlihat) menyukai apa yang pasangan kita suka kalau memang menurut kita nggak keren atau nggak bisa kita nikmati.

Rythm Heaven é um game muito contagiante e muitas pessoa que mostrei esse game simplesmente se apaixonaram. Um ótimo game exclusivo do DS.

Esse game é separado por vários minigames onde o jogador deve, seguindo o ritmo, fazer as ações quevariam entre:

Tap (Toque na tela)
Flick (Um lance, arrastando na tela)
Hold (Segura a caneta na tela)
Slide (Deslisar na tela)
Lift (Tirar a caneta da tela)

Cada fase é um tema diferente, seja uma fabrica de robos, ou uma disputa de ping-pong ou até mesmo um cachorro ninja, o negocio é seguir o ritmo e agir na hora certa.

Os graficos são bem simples, afinal, não é a questão do jogo, mas são bem trabalhados e fazem o seu trabalho bem feito no jogo. Algumas fases 3D já não são tão boas quanto as 2D.

Impressionante os diferentes tipos de minigames que existem. xD

A falta de uma curva de dificuldade pode deixar jogadores frustrados mas quando estiver com dificuldade com alguma fase, o “barman” do jogo lhe oferece uma oportunidade de pular a fase. =]

Existem 3 ambientes no jogo, a seleção da fase, o bar onde o jogador pode relaxar, ler alguns itens que podem ser desbloqueados ou praticar os movimentos citados acima e outra sessão onde o jogador libera minigames usando moedas que são adiquiridas quando completa uma fase com ranking ’superb’.

O sons não tem comparação, são de ótima qualidade e é uma seleção perfeita de ritmos e musicas.

A criatividade usada nesse jogo é simplesmente incrivel, em algumas fases eu parei para admirar isso, pois ao invez de ser apenas clicar na tela, algumas fases exigem outros movimentos e sem contar que a musica tambem são muito boas.

Eu posso passar um bom tempo explicando como é o jogo, mas prefiro colocar o teaser de rhythm heaven, é autoexplicativo.

Esse jogo é muito bom e recomendo para qualquer um. Minha nota será tão boa quanto eles me deram em algumas musicas!

Hi there!

Yesterday was my birthday. I spent it at Pirenopolis, an old and tinny city 2h drive from Brasilia (where I live). My parents have a house there, so my brothers, some friends and I went there to ride our bikes, to swin on the river and to have fun and some delicious meals over there.

Pirenopolis is the oldest town settled in these lands and it still keeps a lot of its architecture, costumes and stuff. It has planty bush tracks, waterfalls, hills and a huge variety of restaurants and shops. It’s one of the best towns to spend a weekend nearby. It also uses to be crowded on holidays. Lucky we are for having a nice and comfy house right in the middle of the action!

On sunday we rode our bikes to a friend’s farm, where we had swin followed by a delicious lunch before hiting the road back home. Just great!

Later at night, when I thought my day was over and drove to a mall in order to change a bermuda I’d won, I luckily found one of those spontaneous events we don’t know about until we see it happening. It was the end of a cultural meeting in town and people were singing and dancing some rithms from North.

Por recomendación de Cristina Alonso, una amiga de hace tiempo, llegué al video sobre un cuatito que tiene una creatividad impresionante. Micha Albacow, un joven uzbeko de 16 años, se dio cuenta un día mientras caminaba que las Tic Tac que traía en la bolsa del pantalón hacían sonidos al ritmo de los pasos que daba. Desde entonces, Micha visita muchas ciudades en las que presenta su espectáculo; también pueden visitar su website para conocer los instrumentos que ha creado con las pastillitas. Me queda muy claro que con imaginación y talento se puede lograr cualquier cosa. Les dejo el video desde Uzbekistán para ustedes.

Review

The first contact you have with the game is the cover. Front: 70’s looking cheerleaders (outfit, poms and jump). It’s a photograph, nothing to do with the game. Back: Poor quality art from the game. Ok, I shouldn’t judge a game by it’s cover, but it’s not starting well. Considering it’s Ubisoft, I was expecting a better general quality. And my first impression stuck when playing. It’s a game that could have been good and had great ideas to put accurate cheerleading skills in, but the gameplay is too basic and boring. You just get to make your character perform motions, the jumps, stunts and pyramids are only to look good between play sequences. The graphics are not that polished too. The DS can really do better. They tried cell shading but on such a low polygons count on the characters and flickering when the scene moves, it doesn’t look good.

The story is about two girls who decide to start a squad because their team suck and there’s no audience to support them. So they thought that if there was a cheerleading squad, more people would come cheer for the team. After some levels, more people join the squad. The closeups of the characters in scenario sequences are cartoon-like, very colorful and fun, very well done.

There are several modes:

- Story: includes a story between each round. Each round is either a challenge (cheer off) or a tutorial for new stuff to manage in the game. Sometimes you aslo have a mini-game.
- Challenge: you can redo the challenges you’ve already made. You can choose music, venue and opponent and difficulty based on the things you have unlocked and paid for.
- Style: you can change the outfits and look of your squad with money you’ve earned.
- Mini-game: if you score well in those games you can earn extra money. There are 3 mini-games: jump rope (you only earn very small amounts unless you are very good), bake sale (earn $1 per cake sold) and mary mack.
- Multiplayer: this is co op. That’s nice. That means that both players are in the same squad and must work together for a combined score.

The customization of the character includes: choosing hair style, outfit color, school colors (very limited), outfit style, theme (graphics in the bottom screen), cheers (moves style). You can also see the trophies won. The music is dynamic and you can unlock more tunes, but it’s not cheerleading mix or famous songs.

Very (too) simple stylus game. Draw lines: up, down, left and right. Sometimes you also have to click on some shapes. It’s supposed to be a rhythm game but you can draw your lines practically any time, you don’t really have a special beat to match. The sequences are really simple. Usually there’s only 2 different moves and about 2-5 moves per sequence. On those 4 basic lines drawn, each squad puts different real cheerleading motions based on “up”, “down”, “left” and “right”. The game can become very repetitive and boring on the long run considering there are so few different things to do.

Between the motions sequence they had your squad perform some jumps and stunts. The jumps are real and hard cheerleading jumps. Plus they are correctly executed. That made me really happy. So far I’ve seen: Toe Touch, Around the world, Side Hurdler, Double Nine, Double Hook and Front Hurdler. I’m sure there are many more but it’s hard to catch them since you are concentrated on the bottom screen and they happen on the top screen. And each girl does a different jump.

Sometimes your squad does stunts and pyramids too. Three girls make an extension (no backspot and no frontspot), turn it into a liberty and the flyer doubles down. And still no back spot to catch her! I know it looks good on the game and it’s fun, but it teaches really bad practices. It’s dangerous and impossible. Almost all the stunts in the game have one girl holding one girl, very often on one feet. Only men can do that. Plus it’s really not safe to not have many people catching the flyers when she goes down. And again, the bases have poms in their hands when doing the stunts, come on! Apart from those problems, the stunts and pyramids are correct and well executed. I’ve seen liberties, liberty pyramids, 2-2-1, cradles, double downs…

The stunts and jumps are only there to look nice. You don’t get to play to make them. They are between the basic motions you do with the stylus. At least they tried to put pyramids and stunts and apart from the wrong number of girls doing it and the poor security they are pretty accurate. That was a nice try. Too bad you can’t play to make stunt, jumps and pyramids. It could have been fun and challenging for the developers.

Tips

- Don’t click on credits unless you want to wait 10 minutes doing nothing, the credits scroll and you can’t do anything.

- In the cheer off there’s a free style mode when you reach the x5 bonus. You can hit any move, that just gives you point. Try and do as many as possible during the short Freestyle period.

- In the cheer off you need to cheer inside the DS microphone sometimes. Of course you can say whatever you want, it still works.

- If you do good in cheer off you unlock new things and get money. The better the score, the more things you unlock and the more money you get to buy unlocked things. You can redo the levels to try and make a better score and unlock more stuff.
