I really like this QuickPress blog feature, as it makes it real neat to quick throw a blog say, right in between two boring conferences (where you can write about how boring the past conference was!), and under the Tags, you need to place commas instead of enter.

Actress and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie apparently hates Barack Obama.

On top of this, according to an Us Weekly article, she and partner Brad Pitt have a lot of fights over their differing views of the President.

Such seems surprising not just due to her high-profile activism, but also that Us Weekly, as one of the Obamas’ biggest fans, would report it.

Consider that in March 2008, UW owner Jenn Wenner wrote such a gooey endorsement of candidate Obama in his other magazine Rolling Stone that Politico’s Mike Allen suggested he and Barack should “Get a room!”

Which makes this piece all the more amazing (h/t Parcbench via Leon Todd):

Barack Obama does not have Angelina Jolie’s seal of approval.

“She hates him,” a source close to the U.N. goodwill ambassador, 34, tells the new issue of Us Weekly (on newsstands now).

“She’s into education and rehabilitation and thinks Obama is all about welfare and handouts. She thinks Obama is really a socialist in disguise,” adds the source.

NewsBusters readers are certainly aware that father Jon Voight is quite conservative, and discussed this with Matt Sheffield and me at last year’s Republican National Convention. But I digress:

“Angie isn’t Republican, but she thinks Obama is all smoke and mirrors,” the source says.

And those political views are putting her at odds with Brad Pitt, 45, who is a big fan of the president and even went solo to the 2008 election party in Chicago.

“They get in nasty arguments all the time about it,” says the source.

I hope these arguments don’t resemble the way they fought in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”

I had the most random and incredible thing happen to me today. I really truly believe God just used a random man by the name of “Christophoree” come speak to me in the office today. At first, I was very apprehensive of this baggy clothed individual with a basketball bag that immediately made me assume that he was probably homeless…but much to my surprise, he stirred up a wave of emotions inside of me that I never thought a stranger could. The man with soft eyes, spoke to me so gently yet urgently. Without even asking if I was a Christian, he shared his thoughts on evangelism…and not the kind of evangelism where one merely shouts in the streets, but the kind of evangelism that can permeate social, cultural, and professional lines. It’s the kind of evangelism that breathes not just the message of Christ, but the heart and actions behind it. God did not just ask us to spread his word and pray for the sick…he said to spread his work and heal the sick. Through God we have been saved  and it is through Him and only Him are we able to do his work on this earth.  Christophoree shared that he has been in the states for two years now after having come from Africa. Although he has little, he feels he is blessed with so much that he felt the people in this area were in need of spiritual nourishment. So, this man, with only the clothes on his back, is trekking through the Chicago area, taking shelter in the local Moody Church, learning as much as possible about the society he’s living in and how he can actively reach out to others with Christ’s words, so they themselves can reach out to those within their communities/environments, and that’s all. That is his only goal.

It’s a real estate management office. “Ah, you’re working in the perfect business.”

He discussed with me that no matter what country we’re in, businesses we network with, friends we associate with, we must always pray for the leaders of our country, company, crew. That their thoughts are always guided by God’s. He encouraged me by saying that I can bless this office that I’m in, by changing the way they view relationships. He claimed, because they see the light of God in you, they will want to fill that void in their hearts that helps them to love others and lead others with compassion, rather than mere management.

Did this guy just literally walk down this street, at this time of the day, just to share with me my own thoughts about why I feel like I’m in this office for the same exact reason???

Praise the Lord, for constantly keeping me encouraged by using others to speak to me.

And he wanted to thank me as a sister in Christ for spending just this little time to chat with him. He plead with me that the man whom I will marry will be the head of my family and will be so in love with God that he will find me because I am a woman so in love with God. And that whatever good thing he does for me is not because of just my beauty or humor, but because he sees God in me.

How crazy of a statement is that? What a whole new way of thinking….that seems so outrageous but humbly perfect. Gets me really excited that I can dedicate my life to others because of God’s love within me and that “my guy” will have just as much love and strength for others because of his love for God.

Right before I went to bed last night I was reading “The Believer’s Authority” by Andrew Wommack [a book I received this summer from one of my spiritual mentors] and the section I was reading touched on many things that this very man was speaking about. More so about the fact that I need to be a light in this dark world for others. And that no matter where I am, God is always within me, and because He is always within me, I have His strength to do His works. It’s kind of a scary thought …and I think it’s because it’s so “out of my comfort zone,” and as as amazing as this sounds, I’m terrified to pursue it because I know others will not accept it. But the past few days of reflection have really challenged my understanding of prayer. 

Prayer is not passive.

Prayer does not exist without action.

How we treat others with our words, we must also show them with our hands. Miracles happen to normal people. Why else, would they be considered miracles?

Well, it’s now getting late [I wrote part of this blog whilst at work---but alas could not finish it till just now] which unfortunately is now 11:35PM, and now that I’m an old “working” person, this timeframe is really late and I have to be up in 5 hours….oh college days, how the heck did I survive on such little sleep?]

I’d share more thoughts later, but that was just soooo cool for a random guy to share his heart with me for about 15 minutes in the middle of my busy work day.  I couldn’t believe that no one from the office came to the desk, no visitor came to the door, and the phone only rung after Christophoree left the building. 15 minutes. That never happens. And it just did.

I came across this article in the latest issue of Time.

As with anything I started relating this to our parenting style. V and I are totally different. He likes to leave children alone and let them be, where as I like to be more involved. I found many of the instances in this article funny. Still sometimes I wonder if we try to finetune our children’s lives.

In many instances, I have felt that parents want their children to fulfill their dreams. If the parent wanted to be a doctor and could not, then their next hope is to make their child a doctor. At the same time there are many other parents who just let their children be. It takes lot of confidence to do that. It takes some courage to let the child make mistakes and learn, to hold back the urge to step in during every little challenge in life. It takes effort to not force our beliefs and convictions onto them and rather let them be free thinkers.

I read “Olive Kitteridge” by Elizabeth Strout last week. The main character is Olive, who is an overbearing mom and wife who controls the household too much. There is a remark in the book to the effect that when someone goes to therapy, they tend to resemble their parents. It got me thinking on how much parenting style can affect children. There is more to life than basic necessities. The way we parent our children has great influence in how they develop and the effect it has is different on each child depending on the personality.

• V mentioned about “Betawave” last week, where they are developing strategies to market products through gaming. They have plans to market almost everything including “Pampers” and “Pepsi” through games.  I am a fan of technology, but sometimes am overwhelmed by it. As such a lot of people, especially the younger generation spends considerable amount of their awake time glued to games. If some parent thought it was time well spent than seeing all the advertisements in TV, that hope is gone. Now there will be more repurcussions. They will come out after playing games, asking for this particular brand of jeans or this particular brand of cereal.

• Amidst all these thoughts, we needed a movie like “Duplicity” to lighten up . Julia Roberts is awesome. As we sat down to watch this movie about which I have heard mixed reviews, I told V: “I can watch even the worst movie if Julia Roberts is in it”. I enjoyed the movie.

• I went and helped in S’s class one day and had lunch with her. I am learning about the school system here, since this is my first child in school and this is her first year. S seems to have a great time in the class with the teacher and her friends. She keeps referring to her drama teacher, music teacher, counsellor, librarian and gym teacher at home all the time with great enthusiasm, which is comforting.

• I am finding it hard to make my 2 year old to keep her hair band. She keeps taking it off and it is a pity seeing the upper half of her face being hidden under her hair. She seems to like it that way. But my FIL keeps saying that children will have vision issues if hair kept falling in their face. She is developing a personality; keeps mixing up names of idly / chappathi and dosa, tells us “J(G)ood job, am proud of you!”  when we do something that she finds praiseworthy

Now I am looking forward to thanksgiving; meeting up with friends and may be a day trip.
