<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p style="text-align:justify;">Well it&#8217;s X-mas time again and although I&#8217;m not a huge fan of X-mas units, I did give some S1 pupils (Castlehead) the chance to make a Pop-Up X-mas tree card. The idea is a popular one, though I decided to Photoshop my own own stencil.</p>

<p>Above<strong> Andrew T</strong> adds colour to his sketch of parcels, his tree is finely decorated with contrasting red tinsel and baubles, while below <strong>Joanne S</strong> decides on the placement of her &#8216;Merry X-mas&#8217; tag.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">The stencil for the X-mas Tree Pop-Up Card can be downloaded from &#8216;The Box&#8217; at the bottom of the right-hand column. There are four main pointers for making the card, listed below:</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:#339966;"><strong>1. Trace the outline of the stencil onto thicker cartridge paper.</strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:#339966;"><strong>2. Fold the paper/card into four (in half horizontally and in half vertically)</strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:#339966;"><strong>3. Cut through the bold lines (the bottom of the tree layers).</strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:#339966;"><strong>4. Score the dotted lines (the sides of the tree layers).</strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">Press out the layers while folding the card and you have a pop-up card ready for colouring.</span></strong></p>

<p>North Lanarkshre Council is hosting a &#8220;Glam Metal&#8221; Fashion Show featuring the work that is created by pupils in High Schools all over the region. The submission to this show from Our Lady&#8217;s High School features the work done by last years S1 pupils who created tie and scarf designs in Ms Steinert&#8217;s class as part of the 5/14 art and design currculum. The fashion designs will be shown in a special runway catwalk exhibition in January of 2010 at Summerlee Industrial Museum, in Coatbridge. The work of 10 pupils will be shown and quite a few of them are ties created by boys which shows that fashion is for everyone! The following pupil&#8217;s work is being submitted : Nadia W, Leah H, Erin , Jay McM, Brendan R, Colette Rs, Kieran R, Ryan F, Piotr L, and Matthew C.</p>

A lot of people only think it happens to the woman but I wanted to show it could happen to any of them.  The image I have used is an image of an eye and an eyebrow with bruising, to show the victim has been beaten up. I used make-up on my friend’s eye to take the image and give the illusion of real abuse. The slogan on the poster is “Who’s The Victim?” at the top of the page and then “Is It The Man Or The Woman?” at the bottom. I got this idea because in many domestic abuse situations it is the man who is abused. I have also used different fonts to add to the feeling and different colours. I used red for “Victim” as I felt it would give an idea of blood. I also used pink for “man” because it is a reversed role as it is usually women that are related with pink. I used blue for the “woman” also to give this idea.  by Laura S3</p>

But between this very spot on your screen and that track is my long story that dates from us meeting in 2003 up to us shooting the "Strange Revival" video the other day. ]</p>
<p>Back in 2003, in the wake of a massive three-year weekly Austin, Texas, live freestyle event the Reelaktz crew set up and <del datetime="2009-11-26T00:37:48+00:00">allowed to be</del> ran <del datetime="2009-11-26T00:37:48+00:00"> into the ground</del> called Hip Hop Humpday&#8230; a San Antonio club promoter called me to set up a new weekly duo gig. By duo I mean D-Madness and I, the most dynamic musician and emcee from that Humpday set. This new opportunity would require <del datetime="2009-12-14T08:12:34+00:00">D-Madness and</del> me to drive an hour south, and back again, every week for the life of the gig.</p>
<p>Promoter Guy had heard of us through the Humpday, but that was over and I was doing duo sets with D almost exclusively at this point. He was fine with our explanation, and the fact that two performers would cost him much less than 10 or more would. But there was one stipulation – the promoter wanted us to yay-or-nay a new San Antonio duo called Mojoe. He said if we liked them and approved, then they’d get the gig and vice-versa.</p>
<p>We went down to S.A. a week or so later and checked out their tunes at the promoter’s house. The production was ehh, but we all agreed that the songwriting and the style were strong, catchy and very compatible with us. From there, we agreed to join forces at this swanky lounge in Northwest San Antonio. If I remember correctly the venue was off of Huebner or Eckert and Babcock and is currently called the Sky Lounge.</p>
<p>From that first gig in San Antonio, we developed a growing kinship – and by ‘we’, I mean Mojoe, D-Madness, myself … and the list goes on. For the past seven years, we’ve experienced ups, downs, births, deaths, marriages, divorces and of course great performances and recordings while learning a lot about art, music and manhood from one another.</p>

<p>If you walked in the Soul Cookout circa 2003 you’d see Mojoe on stage working out the tunes that would become their debut album, “Classic.Ghetto.Soul”. Originally from New Orleans, Easy was already an established poet in the local scene who reminded people of Andre Benjamin. Tre was the oh-so-familiar heavy soul in the group, who put you in the mind of an Al Green or Bobby Womack. There was an authentic old school soul vibe in the spot, down to the way the crowd favorites eventually became the singles on the album.</p>
<p>While Mojoe would play their set, D and I would relax, love their material and hate their drummer’s lack of a pocket. It was obvious from day one that they were a few personnel changes away from going super HOARDE! Tre would hop off stage with a pensive look on his face, and ask me “what do you think we really need to work on?” The only logical reply was “keep doing exactly what you’re doing and get a better band!”</p>
<p>When they were finished, D and I would basically freak out on stage. I’d start the set performing album cuts over a minidisc or CD, and then D would come in playing bass, drums and ASR-10. From there it was half my freestyle session and half D’s R&#38;B love zone with a free-for-all-everybody-come-jump-on-the-mic finale to close the night. We were just having fun, working on our chops and trying to figure out where to take our music careers.</p>
<p>Most importantly we would go on to champion a movement for soulful live hip hop bands in the Texas scene, which was perhaps a little bit against the woodgrain. My Create &#38; Hustle album got picked up for distribution and was getting some nice <del datetime="2009-12-14T08:12:34+00:00">random</del> press. And, if I remember correctly, right after Mojoe’s “Classic.Ghetto.Soul.” album dropped, we got fired and never heard from Mojoe or Promoter Guy again.</p>
<p>It was too late to lose touch, though. We had a classic collab called “The Blues” on their album and we were very much a part of each other’s careers at this point. So I let the situation breathe for a while, then popped up at a Mojoe show at Kingston Tycoon Flats months later and made sure everything was still cool. Not long after that we built an alliance between Mojoe, D-Madness, Money Waters and I, which was made official at the Vibe on 6th Street during South by Southwest 2005.</p>
<p>I only have a few memories of that South by Southwest show. Mojoe had signed with a Houston-based management company and “Classic.Ghetto.Soul” posters were covering the whole block. We all had live bands, of course. I was passing out samplers of Blazing Saddles, my upcoming mixtape with DJ Baby G. Money performed Play the Role with me, and the b-boys were on stage dancing. And it was packed.</p>
<p>By South by Southwest 2006, it was all about Mojoe. They had just signed with Matthew Knowles’ Music World label, and some combination of their buzz and his fame had Cedar Street jumping like it was THE place to be. It’s very rare that you see a South By Southwest venue full of excited black folks. D-Madness was the opening act, and I did a few songs in his set along with Willette Wallace. Our set was the best thing cooking until the headlining set.</p>
<p>Everything came together for Mojoe that night. The band was finally dope enough to sell their material! D-Madness was on bass now, Andrae on sax, Carter Arrington on guitar, etc. The main catalyst for the band was Derrick aka Funky Genius on drums. He, like John Dees the keys player, brought that young church boy spark that can take a band from 0 to 60 in one short rehearsal. One of the most talented people in Texas history, DaShade Moonbeam, was in the crowd cosigning. And when we did “The Blues” it was like there were angels cosigning from just above the stage.</p>
<p>Needless to say, Music World signed Mojoe and quickly remixed, mastered and released “Classic.Ghetto.Soul.” complete with my liner notes. Then they put them on the road in a van for a long time, and that’s about all they did. Everyone around these parts waited for them to blow, but that day never came. It was kind of similar to when PPT broke up, in that it took some wind out of all the affiliated groups who were sure this was going to open a door for us.</p>
<p>In 2007 when Easy Lee was heavily featured on my “Woodgrain Collection” mix CD with Rapid Ric, Mojoe was back in the lab working on their sophomore album “Dirty Genes”. I’d hooked them up with Symbolyc One (S1) of Strange Fruit Project, the go-to guy for stepping your sound up. They recorded in far away spots like Nashville, but eventually came back to their headquarters in Austin, Texas, with producer Roger Blevins of Mingo Fishtrap.</p>
<p>“Dirty Genes” was released to very little fanfare, straight to iTunes. The video for the title track quietly debuted on Billboard.com, and I just discovered a second video for “My Favorite Cut” yesterday. Excuse my bias, but this is one of my favorite 2009 album releases. What it lacks in conceptual consistency – which is a strength of “Classic.Ghetto.Soul” – it makes up for with production quality and straight-ahead bangers. It is more of the “Carter 3”/”Blueprint 3” digital-era song collection than “The Cool” or Nas’ “Untitled”.</p>
<p>“Strange Revival” is the type of beat that artists like me envy. In fact, the last time I was at S1’s Liquid Soul Lab I committed the cardinal sin of asking him for a beat like it. Anyway, my man M.O.S. of Crew 54 who heads up Dookie Vizion Productions and Films fell in love with this joint, out of all the nice cuts on “Dirty Genes”. Even though he didn’t know Mojoe personally, he worked up a treatment in no time. A few months ago, Mojoe opened for Mayer Hawthorne in Austin and the rest is historical.</p>
<p>Tre and Easy got in town the night before the shoot, also the eve of my wife defending her dissertation proposal for her phD. The day of the video shoot was so perfect. Everything ran on schedule, and was done in less than 12 hours despite plenty of location changes.</p>
<p>It should be noted that M.O.S. shot and edited this whole thing solo. It blows my mind how he saw the vision to make this happen, although he more or less came in on the tail end of what’s been seven years in the making. Then again, so did a lot of the “extras” in the video who happen to be great artists doubling as avid supporters.</p>
<p>While we were shooting my takes, I had an overwhelming feeling that my verse had been written not so much for the song or album, but for that exact moment on East 11th Street. How strange is that?</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>It’s that time again people, Christmas and hopefully you have hip hop heads in your family that love to listen to good rap music so here are some albums from this year that you can throw in your loved ones stocking!</p>
<p><strong>Cloud 19 (Braille and S1)</strong>- Late last year Braille announced Cloud 19 I was a little skeptical because I wasn’t a big fan of The IV Edition. Cloud 19 came out and I was blown away by everything this album offered. S1 brought banging beats and Braille brought rhymes that made the listener think and made the listener appreciate the art of talented lyricism.</p>
<p><strong>Restocked (TheBreax)</strong>- I was introduced to TheBreax early this year on the SphereofHipHop podcast where they played “For What” and “Success”. And yet I still wasn’t entirely sold on them, I ended up picking this and their previous record up because of the guests that appeared on them. And let me tell you TheBreax are legit. They have most mainstream sounding production but it’s still their own and unique. Ruslan is talented and his lyrics are thought-provoking and definitely ask for some introspection.</p>
<p><strong>Black and Read All Over (Sharlok Poems)</strong>- Sharlok releases his best project to date in my opinion. This time Sharlok brings Theory Hazit and Oddisee to handle the beats and they we will beat you over the head with the crazy beats they came up with. It has guests Othello, Stro the 89th Key, Propaganda, LMNO, Pigeon John and others. I feel like this release flew under the radar and that people are sleeping on it so wake up and smell the fresh hip hop.</p>
<p><strong>Friends Enemies Apples Apples (Mr. J Medieros)</strong>- While I haven’t listened to this album yet, Mr. J has always had a reputation of writing rhymes that dive straight into your heart and soul and make you think about yourself, world issues, the people around you and more. The production is entirely covered by J’s Procussions partner Stro the 89th Key and features guest vocals from Tara Ellis.</p>
<p><strong>Modern Marvels (Theory Hazit)</strong>- It’s shipping out in about a week and half and people who’ve listened to it already say it’s sure fire! All the beats are by Toni Shift and features JustMe, Wonder Brown, Tanya Morgan, Aletta and more. Buy it from Sphere and you get the beats from the album a special Illect Recordings shirt and you get a bonus digital album from Theory Lord Fire 2 (which is unreleased Hazit material) for $30.</p>

They managed to use their powers of persuasion to sell out almost all the card packs. They raised over £100 and the art department will donate a proportion of the money  to the charity SCIAF and the rest will go towards purchasing the software program Crazy Talk which animates images to look like they are talking- the pupils will have loads of fun with this. Mr Jakusz is already planning on having talking Christmas cards online for next year-nice!</p>

<p>PT PLN (Persero) membutuhkan sekitar 26<a href="http://jarno.web.id/">.</a>000 pegawai baru karena setiap tahunnya banyak pegawai yang memasuki masa pensiun. “Tiap tahun, total pegawai kami yang pensiun secara nasional sekitar 1.500 orang,” kata Direktur Utama PT PLN (Persero), Fachmi Mochtar di Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November Surabaya, Sabtu.</p>

<p>Menurut dia, penambahan pegawai baru itu dapat meningkatkan kinerja perusahaannya. “Komposisi pegawai yang diperlukan terdiri dari pembangkit 2.700, transmisi baru 4.000 orang, dan sisanya menyebar ke sektor lainnya,” ujarnya.</p>
<p>Dari total pegawai yang dibutuhkan, kata dia, dominasi 50 persen adalah lulusan D1, menyusul 28 persen lulusan D3, 20 persen S1, dan 2 persen S2.”Banyaknya lulusan diploma yang direkrut karena kami memerlukan tenaga pegawai teknis dalam jumlah besar,” katanya.</p>
<p>Dengan penambahan pegawai itu, ia menargetkan, sampai tahun 2018 total pegawai di perseronya akan menjadi 40.000 pegawai. “Kami berharap, masuknya pegawai baru itu dapat menyumbangkan kinerja terbaik mereka,” katanya.</p>
<p>Di sisi lain, lanjut dia, kontribusi pemikiran para pegawai baru itu diharapkan juga bisa membantu perusahaan mencapai target pertumbuhan konsumsi listrik sekitar 9 persen. “Target itu diyakini dapat tercapai mengingat perekonomian nasional 2010 diharapkan tumbuh 6 persen,” katanya.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><span style="color:#0000ff;">Pubblico i nuovi orari della tratta Piacenza – Lodi &#8211; Milano e Mantova – Lodi – Milano. Sono ancora provvisori e sono l’ennesima versione diversa a pochi giorni dal 13 dicembre in cui dovrebbero entrare in vigore. Si potrebbe sintetizzare “Grande è la confusione sotto il cielo” (ma c’è poco di stupendo!) o “si sente odore di bruciato” perché innanzitutto è incredibile che a meno di 2 settimane dal via al nuovo orario ancora non ci sia un orario definitivo e che non si riesca a sapere nulla di certo.<br />
Tanto per dire, andando sul sito di Trenitalia e provando a cercare l’orario da Lodi a Milano per il 14 dicembre, esce un laconico “Nessuna soluzione trovata.”!!!! Incredibile!!!<br />
Intanto, grazie alle segnalazioni di noi pendolari lodigiani e piacentini, la stampa ha dato parecchio risalto alla situazione e politici e istituzioni locali si stanno muovendo.  Appena riesco pubblico un po’ di rassegna stampa.<br />
Comunque, da quel che si capisce, per chi parte da Lodi le novità sono queste:<br />
1) è confermato il treno delle 8.01 (n. 2912) che inizialmente sembrava essere scomparso e che aveva scatenato le proteste lodigiane;<br />
2) rimangono alcuni slittamenti di orari, i rallentamenti di alcuni treni che con il nuovo orario ci metteranno di più e la cancellazione del treno Milano-Livorno delle 17.05 (per maggiori dettagli l’utilissimo sito del <a href="http://digilander.libero.it/pendolaripiacenza/">Comitato pendolari di Piacenza</a>);<br />
3) molti dei treni regionali che nel vecchio orario si fermavano a Parma, nel nuovo orario proseguiranno fino a Bologna: Lodi sarà così nuovamente collegata direttamente a Bologna, come era fino a pochi anni fa;<br />
4) è ovviamente confermato l’avvio della linea suburbana S1 Lodi-Saronno, anche se inizialmente solo dalle 9 alle 17 (tutti i dettagli, gli orari e le info <a href="http://briciolecaotiche.wordpress.com/2009/11/25/novita-per-i-pendolari-lodigiani/">in un mio post di qualche giorno fa</a>).<br />
Insomma se solo fossero capaci di fare il loro mestiere e di comunicare, nel nuovo orario per e da Lodi ci sarebbero anche novità positive e non solo disastri. Così però fanno incavolare tutti…in attesa, ovviamente, degli orari definitivi…ma intanto mancano ancora ben 12 giorni!!!</span></p>

<p><strong>Kayleigh M</strong> from St Benedicts (S1) provides this week&#8217;s &#8216;AOTW&#8217;. She created a coloured study of a woodlice in a single period. Her drawing was then selected in photoshop and placed on a Google Images found photo of soil. I added some shadowing to the insects to make them appear more realistic and be part of the scene.</p>
<p>The idea for this had been inspired by<a href="http://www.sd25.org/~TriciaFuglestad/Art/Fugleblog/Entries/2009/11/12_If_you_could_only_see_the_germs....html"> Tricia Fuglestad&#8217;s Germs unit</a>.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m running out of witty intros, so let&#8217;s cut to the chase. </p>
<p>Our first lecturer this week was <a href="http://www.med.uvm.edu/pharmacology/WebBio.asp?SiteAreaID=671">Dr. Brayden</a>, who gave us lectures in cardiology. He started his first lecture saying, &#8220;Let&#8217;s get to the heart of the matter.&#8221; He was immediately booed by the class. Jokingly, of course.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.med.uvm.edu/pathology/WebBio.asp?SiteAreaID=1049">Dr. Lewis</a> also returned to give more lectures on lymph nodes and the immune system, and <a href="http://physiology.med.uvm.edu/hendley/">Dr. Hendley</a> came</p>
<p>The highlight of the lectures, however, has to be Dr. Szilva&#8217;s lecture on the autonomic nervous system. You may recall that in her first lecture, she transformed into her alter-ego, Anatomy Woman. This time, just as the lecture was supposed to start, she suddenly jumped out from behind the podiuim dressed as a pirate, complete with bandana, eyepatch and sword. (No parrot, though.)</p>
<p>&#8220;ARRR! ARE YE READY TO ATTACK THE AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM?&#8221;</p>
<p>You have not lived until you&#8217;ve heard your lecturer ask, &#8220;What are the major divisions of the ANS?&#8221; in a pirate voice. And as she talks about visceral nerves, she asks, &#8220;How does your body know you&#8217;ve been stabbed in the back?&#8221;</p>
<p>After a few minutes of this, she switched back to her normal voice and attire. &#8220;I can&#8217;t do this all day, or my voice will go. Also, it&#8217;s hard to see with this eyepatch.&#8221;</p>

<p>This week before our MSLG class started, Dr. Rosen gathered us all together to talk about the HEAL project we&#8217;ll be working on. At this point, we students were unclear as to what this project was. We knew vaguely that it would be a community health project of some sort, but that was about it.  </p>
<p>In theory, this lecture was supposed to make this project clearer. It didn&#8217;t quite work out that way. (I can write that because we&#8217;ve had a conversation with him after the fact, and he agreed with us and will improve it next year.)</p>
<p>The best part, however, was when Dr. Rosen encouraged us to make sure to welcome and talk to the social worker students we&#8217;d be partnering with. He then started down this conversational line: &#8221;Think of it this way: How do you know when someone is interested in you?&#8221; he asks. &#8220;They ask you questions. So&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>And at this point, the class lost it and broke out into laughter. To his credit, he somehow got control of the class. </p>
<p>Some people (not me) found that part of the lecture a tad demeaning, but apparently in years past, the med students haven&#8217;t been great about socializing with the students that have come in.</p>

<p>Doctoring Skills is definitely making us more like doctors. This week we learned how to use our stethoscopes to listen to hearts and give a cardiovascular exam. Hearing the two main heart sounds/thumps (S1 and S2) is awesome.</p>
<p>We listen to four areas in the heart for murmurs. The pneumonic doctors often use for areas of the heart they listen to is &#8220;Apt. M&#8221;: Aortic valve, Pulmonary valve, Tricuspid valve and Mitral valve. We also listen to the carotid arteries in the neck, we measure the radial pulse in the arm, and we also examine the dorsalis pedis pulse in the foot.</p>
<p>As for blood pressure, we learn how to use the blood pressure cuff to take measurements, but we don&#8217;t spend as much time on it. The rationale is that&#8217;s something the nurses will do more often than not. I&#8217;d still like to go back and perfect my measuring skills.</p>
<p>After this session, I definitely am more useful as a medical professional.</p>
