So far go good. Have not got to use it alot, but pleased with it. Seems easy to use as this is my first digital camera. I will put it to the test during hunting season.

After shovelling through hundreds of amazon product pages searching for a case for my new Nikon Coolpix L18 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Ruby Red), I chose this one.

Many of the cases offered for this camera seemed kind of tight in their interior dimensions, and this one seemed the most ample yet compact. Many came with package deals with other equipment (including some really tempting tiny tripods, etc.) but all around, this seemed the best I could find at a good price.

Many others of tighter dimensions claimed to have room for extra batteries and HCSD cards, but the comments claimed otherwise (yes, I even read the comments to chose the right bag; call me obsessive but I want this camera to last a good long while, concealed in a hip pocket).

This one has enough room to carry some extra Energizer® e²® “AA” Lithium Batteries For digital cameras, portable audio players, and more and a few SanDisk SDSDB-4096-A11 4GB SDHC Memory Card (Blue). I would put the SD carsd in the zippered outer pocket, and slip the carefully wrapped batteries inside the main pouch alongside the carefully wrapped camera.

Right now I just have an extra SD card in the outer pouch, and the camera inside, wrapped in an extra large bandanna for extra protection. There is enough room to wrap the camera inside a large bandanna and everything to fit comfortably.

These Litium batteries have really put in alot of service so far, and give no indication of letting up soon. (I know they will falter when I least expect it, when I can least afford them to fail!)

Another really strong selling point for this camera case is the extra long shoulder strap which comes included. I am certain it can extend out to four feet. I folded it up and carried it in the outer patch (yes, it can fit inside there!) but then decided it makes more sense to leave it at home in the closet until needed, since I basically carry this camera and case concealed in my front hip pocket comfortably and safely. Fits fine, but it is good to know whenever I want to play Joe Tourist, and not Spy Camera Sam, I have that really long and comfortable shoulder strap at home.

The latches for clasping the shoulder strap are high quality. The zippers look ready for work as well, so I am counting on this case coming through for many projects down the road. It is so much easier to carry day to day at all times than my great DSLR, the Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens, whose shoulder strap is really too short for comfort and ease of carry. I guess it’s really supposed to be a neck strap, but hey . . .

Great bag, more features than you might need that are good to have just in case (a real shoulder strap, that outside pouch) at a fair price.

You really can’t go wrong here.

This comes with a number of cute little items which look like they might come in handy, and at the price I’m not going to bother returning it, but the case actually says it’s for the S4 & S10 cameras, which must be larger than the s600 because the case doesn’t fit snug enough for good protection – so if you don’t have an S4 or S10, be advised that this case might be too big.

Check the dimensions on the camera bag versus your camera before you buy this.It’s a huge bag, for a camera made at least 8 years ago!

I have a brand new Nikon Coolpix s550, and it was swimming in this bag.

If you want a big bag, to include carrying the battery pack, then this is fine.But if you want a slim little bag just to protect the camera, this is not the bag for you.

Seller responded to my complaint and refunded me for the bag, though.

When I first started looking at cameras, I had a list of things that I wanted. First priority for me was the brand. My personal preference for digital cameras leans toward Nikon, Sony, and Pentax. Not that others are bad, I’ve just had better experience with these three brands.

My next priority was price. Looking at similar cameras in my price range, the three brands were really close in price to each other (ranging between $129 and $180). I lucked out and found the Nikon on sale for about $70 off so it was an easy choice for me.

The next item on my list was the size. My previous camera wasn’t really a large camera, but it was somewhat bulky and difficult to carry around. The Nikon Coolpix S210 is really small in comparison. At 3.5 x 0.8 x 2.2 inches, the camera is small enough to fit in my pocket. In fact, it fits in my pocket better than my phone does at times, which is really nice for those times when I don’t want to carry a bag around or have the camera swinging from my arm or hand. I was even able to take the camera on a hike with me without it getting in my way.

Other features the camera has include:

• 8.1-megapixel resolution
• 3x optical zoom
• Electronic VR image stabilization that produce blur-free images when shooting in unsteady conditions or at slower shutter speeds (this does not work with flash on)
• 2.5-inch, high-resolution LCD
• In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
• Enhanced Face-Priority AF automatically focuses on up to 12 faces

 So was the camera worth the price? Or was I left wanting more? I am actually really enjoying this camera. It turns on and off really fast and takes really sharp photos. This was really nice for taking pictures of things while hiking, and then moving on. While the camera is nice, it does have some downsides. It’s a little difficult to switch between the various modes, as you have to go into the menu system rather than just turning a dial like on most other cameras. Also, it does occasionally try to focus on things other than what you want it to focus on. Overall though, I was impressed with the camera, and I’m glad I got it.

Is this the right camera for you? That depends on what you want in a camera. Make sure you do your research before buying any camera to ensure you get the right camera for you. It’s a point-and-shoot: Nikon’s ultracompact digital (at 2.2 x 3.5 inches [55 x 90mm], it’s just slightly larger than a standard business card, less than ¾ inch [18mm] thick, and weighs under 8 ounces [230g]) comes with pretty much what you’d expect for the class. We’re talking autofocus, self-timer, built-in auto flash, a 2.5-inch (65mm diagonal) LCD display, a dozen or so preset “scenes” for different situations (landscape, portrait, sports, etc.), multi-language support, and the rest. There’s the usual on-screen setup, including context-sensitive menus depending on the shooting mode; some computationally-intensive trickery like face recognition software and digital vibration-resistance (anti-shake) correction.

The menu system is straightforward and fairly intuitive (after you’ve adjusted your intuition to match the camera, of course). Controls comprise a four-position rocker button with an enter button in the bullseye; four small pushbuttons are arranged around the rocker to control mode choice, shift the camera into display mode, trash photos, and enter menu mode. A two-position rocker sitting in the upper right-hand corner (under the thumb) controls zoom; there’s an on-off switch on the top next to the shutter release; like most P&S cameras the release can be pressed partway to lock focus. Most buttons are, as programmers might say, overloaded – they have different functions depending on what’s going on at the moment (the zoom button takes you to the help screens, for instance).

It’s a little more: This is my third digital camera in five or six years, and I’m continually amazed at how many features manufacturers pack into such a small package. The other two are an SLR-sized Panasonic Lumix and a “mini-SLR” Fuji Finepix; the two between them add up to about 8 megapixels – the nominal resolution of the Coolpix S210. The eensy little zoom lens corresponds to a range of 38mm-114mm on 35mm cameras (3X optical zoom), and covers a range of apertures from f3.1 to f5.9 (according to Nikon). The software automatically adjusts “film sensitivity” to shutter speed and aperture range, up to ISO 2000; with an available high-sensitivity mode as well.

If the user is so inclined, s/he can shift into macro mode, manually override the autofocus process, digitally zoom (10X) and pan pictures, nudge exposure compensation by a couple of notches in either direction, or activate a panorama-assist mode. Like most digital cameras there’s a “burst” mode, in which you can shoot several shots in rapid succession, though there isn’t a “bracket” mode like SLR-type cameras have (not that you need it with so small an aperture range). And, of course, there are the familiar technological miracles – red-eye correction, vibration reduction, and the like. Oh, and movies, too – an absolute necessity for the YouTube generation. Movie size (with sound) is limited only by storage space – and the camera can connect directly to a television to display movies.

Internal processing gimmickry includes automatic red-eye reduction software, and several functions that create a copy of a selected image – rotation, resizing to “small” size, and D-Lighting, which enhances detail in dark areas of the image (sort of digital dodging, for those who’ve worked in darkrooms). Though nominally an eight megapixel camera, image resolution can be set to two eight megapixel resolutions, five megapixels, or two three-megapixel modes; plus a wide-screen (16:9 aspect ratio) mode, and sizes for PC and television screens.

For those who are interested, the Coolpix S210 is available with its aluminum skin anodized in one of four colors: plum, black, silver, and bronze. Plum is widely available in retail stores; the other colors seem to be reserved for on-line. The camera is delivered with a strap, a battery and charger, a USB cable for hookup to computers, an AV cable for connection to televisions, and Nikon’s photo management software. The S210 comes with 52MB of on-board flash memory, which it uses only if there is no SD chip slotted in.

Living with the Coolpix S210: This is a tiny little camera, one that just barely fits in my hands (while I have long fingers, they’re not particularly thick). It takes some getting used to for one-handed operation, and I find that the controls other than the shutter release are pretty much useless unless the other hand gets in the act. I definitely keep the strap on my wrist if operating one-handed! The LCD screen measures a medium-sized 2.5 inches (65mm) diagonally, about the same size as on my SLR-format digital (a Panasonic Lumix). On-screen menuing is reasonably intuitive, and some simple help screens are accessible while in the menu system. The LCD has five brightness settings, and I’ve found that the default (middle) setting works well in all but bright light – then, even the top setting tends to wash out.

The S210 goes from shutdown to full ready quickly – one second or so – but then requires about 1.5 seconds to autofocus and shoot, a shutter lag that’s fairly long for the state of the art. If pre-focused (the shutter release is pressed halfway), shutter lag approaches zero. Problem being, of course, that if you are shooting something moving quickly enough that a longish shutter lag will bother you, you probably can’t pre-focus. In burst mode, the camera can collect five shots in about eleven seconds, thirteen seconds if the flash is active.

Images are crisp and clear at the center, though with a maximum effective aperture of 5.9, depth of field is an issue for non-landscape shots. Images, especially those shot at 8 megapixels, have more than sufficient resolution for 8×10 photographs without noticeable graininess; though larger images may appear grainy at the edges. Color reproduction appears very good, without chromatic aberration. Shooting in macro mode yields crisp images, though I find them slightly bluish for some reason. As for the on-board firmware, it’s hard to test vibration-reduction… how are you going to know, eh? But as far as the internal software goes, automatic red-eye reduction has yet to be defeated (though I haven’t tested it against the green-eye problem you get with dogs), and the panorama mode works flawlessly – except for the little surprise (not unwelcome) of depositing the panorama shots in a separate folder in storage.

Movie mode yields surprisingly good, though rather large, images and acceptable sound. There’s also a time-lapse movie feature that allows creation of a movie from stills captured at regular intervals, from thirty seconds to one hour – the autoflash can be programmed into the process. Autofocus in face-recognition mode seems to be very slow, which doesn’t much bother me: I prefer to pre-focus and then recompose a photograph, anyway.

What’s good: The S210 packs a friendly user interface and some good features into a compact and high-tech looking body. Photographs, both still and movies, are of good – though not extraordinary – quality, more than acceptable for enlarging to 5×7 and 8×10 prints. Plenty of options for a point-and-shoot enthusiast, and quite a bit of versatility for “outside-the-box” shooting.

What’s average A rather slow shutter makes this a camera that’s better-suited to photos of landscapes and low-intensity activities; otherwise you’ll have to try to pre-focus to get a shot of a moving target. Not a particularly good choice for those with larger hands.

What’s not so good: It’s never going to compete head-to-head with a more expensive or larger camera, though that should come as no surprise.

Overall: If you’re in the market for an tiny entry-level, quick(ish)-snap camera, the Coolpix S210 should be one of the ones on your “to-be-tested” list. The price is right, especially if substantially discounted from the MSRP of $179.95 (I got mine for $159.95 with a 1GB SD chip thrown in). It’ll likely be more than sufficient for your snapshots at parties and on that quick trip to the beach – it beats the heck out of cell-phone photos, for sure. For that once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Amazon rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef, or Antarctica, however; you would be well-advised to look for a more expensive camera.

   I was first introduced to the Coolpix line when I received a 3200 [pic] for my birthday. I was then let loose on the world, capturing innumerable photons with that little baby. It left me, however, when it was stolen at a show in South Burlington. I mourned deeply. Time passed, and I eventually decided to purchase another. I was adamant in my new camera being similar. I stayed within Nikon’s Coolpix line and picked up the ill-fated 5600. Over the next few years, I took gigabytes of photos with it. It went almost everywhere I did. I miss it now; but I also look forward to the future. RIP, Nikon Coolpix 5600.
