Have you ever been in a situation where you find yourself lugging buckets of hazardous waste from the place where your generate it to your central storage area? There is a much easier way around this problem. It is called the satellite accumulation area (SAA).

There is a rule under EPA’s RCRA regulations that allows you to accumulate up to 55 gallons of hazardous wastes at or near the point of generation without “activating” the 90-day or 180-day storage time limit. That’s your SAA. You can have more than one SAA but each one cannot have more than 55 gallons. So if you are generating two incompatible waste streams at one location, you can have two separate containers to accumulate the two wastes but the total volume cannot be more than 55 gallons. (Note: If you have acute hazardous wastes, the total volume at your SAA is one quart.)

To take advantage of this special rule, you must following a few requirements:

First of all, the SAA must be “at or near the point of waste generation” and also “under the control of the operator of the process generating the waste.” The commonly accepted interpretation of the phrase “under the control of the operator” is that the waste container must be in the line of sight of the operator . That’s also EPA’s interpretation. If the waste has to be stored out of sight of the operator due to safety reason – say in a shed outside the building but near the place of generation – then access to the shed must be through a lock controlled by the operator.

The container must also be in good condition (40 CFR 265.171) and wastes stored at the SAA must be compatible (40 CFR 265.172) and the containers must be kept closed (40 CFR 265.173 (a)).

The requirement to keep container “closed” except when adding or removing waste is a problematic one for many generators. The rule says that “a container holding hazardous waste must always be closed during storage, except when it is necessary to add or remove waste”. It does not specifically define the word “closed”.  However, when EPA came up with the rule back in 1980, it intended the word “closed” to mean “vapor tight and spill proof”. So if you screw a large funnel into the bunghole of a container and pour your waste into the drum through the funnel, is that vapor tight and spill proof? If you are storing some highly volatile solvents in the container, is that funnel system vapor tight? If the container gets tipped over, is the funnel system spill proof? Whether you will be cited depends on the content in your container and your state inspector’s interpretation of the word “closed”.  To be on the safe side, you may want to consider putting a shut-off valve between your funnel and the drumhead.

The container should also be labeled “hazardous waste”.

Once the 55-gallon container is full (or the 55 gallon limit is reached if you have more than one container), you have three days to move any excess waste to your central storage area where you will start your regular 90 or 180 days storage time limit. That’s what the regulations say. In reality, it means that unless you remove your 55 gallons from your SAA – either to your central storage area or directly to a final treatment and disposal facility – you will not be able to accumulate any more waste in your SAA for longer than 3 days. So that’s what most people do. They move the 55 gallons to the central storage area and start accumulating in the SAA anew. The net effect is that the SAA extends your on-site accumulation time for the 55 gallons by a significant amount.

Note; If you are in California, state rule (Title 22 CCR 66262.34 (e)(1)(B)) limits the time you can keep your waste at the SAA to one year or when the 55 gallons volume is full – whichever comes first. That is just one of the many additional state environmental requirements you have to live with for being in California.

Another benefit of the SAA is that you do not need to conduct weekly inspection at the site as you do at your central storage areas. (By the way – failure to conduct weekly inspection at the central storage area is one of the most frequently cited CRA violations.) Some generators actually ship their wastes that have been accumulated at the SAA directly out the door thereby skirting the weekly inspection requirement altogether. The disadvantage of this arrangement is the additional shipping costs.

We’re headed into the holiday season here in the States, which is a challenging time for all of us, addicts and “normies” alike. So it’s a good time to be writing part 2 of my post on the outer circle because 90% of the trouble we ALL have is due to poor self care.

Breaking the outer circle down into sections is, in my opinion, the only way to go. After listening to Patrick Carnes on the cd my therapist gave me when I was in treatment, I was able to divide and conquer my outer circle by coming up with 3 or 4 activities to put in each section.

So hotels have this uncanny way of posting the loveliest photos on their website you google search and they have presented and packaged their hotels rooms services whatever in the loveliest manner. so we get into town at about 8:30 pm on a Sunday night, the town is dead o.k…. granted it’s a sunday you do not expect to see that many people anyway do you?

Tired and my insides churning from the brown mass someone on SAA claimed was chicken I quickly check in and hurry up to my room. First shock!!!! the bed the room the covers… nothing is like it was on the website wait a minute am I in the right town????

Too tired to complain! I definitely did not see the promised wine bar.

Stop taking us for a ride and promising services that do not exist painting an unrealistic picture now i get why they want you pay for your accommodation in advance they know the moment you see the place you are going to head for the hills no self respecting hardworking man or woman would gladly part with their money for such. With everyone going on about 2010 its amazing that the service Industry has not changed. How are you going to explain to David Beckham that his luggage was mysteriously opened by some Gremlins on the one and a half hour flight to P.E? AND THAT HIS UNDERTHINGS HAVE BEEN TOTALLY VANDALISED!  Whats even more offending is how the luggage enquiries makes it seem like its your problem that your luggage was broken into. If your bag is one of the last ones to come out at the luggage pick up point guaranteed some one has thoroughly gone through it and the end result looks like a bad spring cleaning job.

One of the funny things about the 3 circles is that most of us don’t have a clue what to put in the outer circle! I’ve done workshops where people fill in the inner circle in about 15 seconds, we move on to the middle circle, which usually anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes.

At this point, the atmosphere is positive and energized. We’re on the path to recovery here! People are being open and honest about what gets them into trouble, whether it’s people, places, things, or states of mind. We’re psyched about understanding how our seemingly innocent behavior can quickly lead us to destruction. You can literally see the lightbulbs going off over our heads as we realize that going online to “just check email” can be the beginning of a slip.

And then we get to the outer circle and the room quickly deflates. People put down that they could read recovery literature. That’s healthy, right? Or go for a walk. Cook dinner. Take a bubble bath. Wait, maybe the bubble bath isn’t such a great idea since I used to . . . how about going fishing? Wait, that’s kind of isolating. After 15 or twenty minutes of wracking our brains, the group sits back and looks at their 3 circles and feels depressed.

The first time I did my 3 circles in rehab, I remember sitting there thinking there was no way people lived like this. First of all, I couldn’t come up with enough stuff to do. And secondly, the stuff I came up with looked like . . . not enough. And I felt depressed.

So I complained to my therapist. She was unimpressed and pointed out that depression is often anger turned inward (yeah, so what?) and that I needed to add more healthy stuff.

I tried for another hour to come up with something . . . more and I honestly couldn’t. My therapist was wrong, I didn’t need a kick in the butt or tough love, I needed help and direction.

When I came back in tears, completely defeated by the task of filling in my outer circle, she gave me a cd with a lecture given by Patrick Carnes recorded on it. I listened to it that evening, and with his help, I was able to complete my outer circle.

Pitäisi mennä nukkumaan mutta ei ole siihen edes energiaa. Aamuisin sitä kuulee miten kello soi, soi, soi ja soi. Ei mikään ruumiin osa edes yritä nousta ylös tai kertoa muille osille että ”hei, kello soi – ylös nyt niin ei tarvitse hosua!” Mutta ei. Mitään ei tapahdu. Sitä haluaa vain pitää silmät kiinni ja kölliä vähän vielä. Ja päivällä sitä on sitten enemmän väsynyt, mutta kun ilta tulee niin – huhuu, sitä ollaan pirteitä kuin kaiken metsän peipot. No, rytmi on kait sekaisin.

Ja mitäs sitä on tehty viime aikoina? Ei mitään ja kaikkea. Kävimme anopin ja mökin luona silloin kuin tytöillä oli syksyloma. Sitä on opiskeltu, oltu tallilla ja työskennelty rippikoululaisten kanssa. Ja sitten sitä on katseltu pari elokuvaa. Näin anopin luona yhden Brosnan-elokuvan, ”Butterfly on a wheel”. Sitä sanotaan että Brosnan itse rysähytti auton parkkipaikalla ja että se ei ollut mikään stuntman. Elokuva oli ihan mukava mutta loppu oli semmoinen ”oi-en-olisi-ajatellut-että-se-näin-loppui”. Sitten sitä nähtiin myös joku ihmeen komedia, missä yksi äiti yritti löytää tyttärelleen miehen. Oli kuin sijattu tyhmiin tilanteisiin. En muista yhtään mikä elokuvan nimi oli. Ei kait tehnyt sen kummempaa vaikutusta minuun. Ja yksi aamu katselin silmät ristissä elokuvan ”The Swan” vuodelta 1956. Tunnistin miehen kuka oli elokuvassa professori ja mietin kauan että missä olen hänet nähnyt. Oli pakko etsiä – siis googlata. Ja silloin loksahti. Se oli Louis Jourdan, myös tunnettu elokuvasta Octopussy vuodelta 1983 missä hän näytteli Kamal Khania. Se oli vähän upeaa!

Ja lunta on tullut ja se on myös sulanut pois. Saa nähdä milloin se suuri lumipyry tulee.

So I finally joined ARLIS, which I know seems strange that it took me this long to join the organization devoted to arts libraries. It’s not that I didn’t want to join before, because I did. It honestly sometimes just comes down to a matter of money. I started joining professional organizations when I was a student, and I personally find them very beneficial. It’s cheap to join as a student, but the membership fees often drastically increase after graduation. I don’t fault the organizations for this, and I don’t think any of their individual fees are outrageous, but by the time you’re joining 3 or 4 organizations, it can get pretty pricey.

I’ve tried to cull the herd and cut some of my memberships, but I find it very difficult. I don’t want to leave ALA, as I feel it’s the “core” organization of the field. With ALA comes ALCTS and LITA. I’m hesitant to leave SLA (although the debate about the realignment and name change may just drive me away), not only because the specialty library focus ties in so closely with our library and what we do, but also because they invested in me when I was a student, and I still feel I owe it to the chapter and the organization to make good on that investment. I was considering dropping SAA, since I don’t currently work as closely with archival materials as I used to, but then they published my paper in their journal, and I’d feel bad leaving so soon after that. So I’ve got those three, plus their subdivisions and local counterparts, plus now ARLIS, and I still think ASIS&T would be worth the membership if I could afford it. By this point, we’re talking hundreds, if not $1,000+ per year for professional organization memberships alone.

But I finally ponied up the dough to join ARLIS, since I’ve been wanting to attend one of their conferences for a while and though 2010 might be a good year to do so. And I’m really glad I joined–it really does seem to cover the niche area I want to work in. I got several friendly and welcoming emails, including one that alluded to a local discussion group specifically for catalogers in the arts! I know must know how excited that made me–how awesome to find a group of people like me, and even better, their next meeting was coming right up, so I was chomping at the bit to attend.

I wish I hadn’t gotten so worked up. Don’t get me wrong–it was a nice meeting, with a lot of nice people, and well-educated catalogers, which was a nice step up from some meetings I’ve been to. Unfortunately, I missed the introductions, so I’m not sure exactly which and what kinds of libraries everyone was representing, which was dissapointing becuase I feel that’s so intrinsic to cataloging work–what type of library are you, who do you serve as your patrons, what types of materials do you collect? I know quite a few attendees came from art museum libraries, which are going to have very different research needs than art schools. What I didn’t understand was how no one else seemed to understand that.

I felt a very strong presumption in the room about Cataloging Rules and How Things Should Be Done, and not very much about users at all. Most of the agenda covered what I consider to be very niggly little bits of cataloging propriety: is the entry in this 1XX field correct, is “$vCatalogs” being used correctly in this record, should this piece of ephemera be described as “1 sheet, folded” or “1 folded sheet”? I know I’m probably going to get flayed for this, but really, people: who the hell cares? Software, if designed properly, makes all those issues irrelevant. Google’s search algorithms will find your folded sheet either way, and probably even if you call it “folded paper,” too.

I was shocked at the apparent prejudice–while discussing whether or not a “cheat sheet” for cataloging exhibition brochures was correct (see above re: niggly minutiae), many people were asking “why would anyone bother to collect those things anyway?” and similar narrow-minded comments. Perhaps that institution has the largest art ephemera collection in the world. Perhaps those materials are in great demand in that geographic area. Perhaps the brochures are used as examples for graphic design classes or instruction in art exhibition design. Who knows? None of those catalogers, because they didn’t even bother to ask before ripping into not just the proper application of MARC and AACR2r on the cheat sheet, but also the reason for the collection itself.

There was so much narrow focus on minutia that it seemed like the considerations of library users didn’t even exist. One woman from an art museum brought up a dispute with a classification number assigned by the Library of Congress to a book about 4 artists. LC classed it in ND237.O5, evidently specifically under Georgia O’Keeffe, but she felt LC was incorrect and a broader classification would be more appropriate. After spending a lot of time hemming and hawing and discussing why LC had classed it that way, based on the rule of three and classing on the first listed subject heading, and how it was biased for LC to class it only under O’Keeffe since she was the most famous, and how this woman had seen the exhibition herself and it was beautiful, and how the book might be classed under women artists, and why the book shouldn’t be classed under women artists because it’s not specifically feminist enough, about how the book might be classed under American painting, but the book wasn’t all painting, there was one piece of sculpture included… it was all I could do to bite my tongue to keep from shouting: “If you don’t like it, just change it!”  (Someone alert the classification police, because we do it here all the time. I changed the classification numbers on no less than 10 titles this morning alone.) Especially since the women’s primary complaint was that her museum curator would “not understand why the book was classed there” and would be unable to find it! I think books should go where your users will find them, most especially in arts libraries, where established research repeatedly shows a preference for browsing access over searching.

As if that wasn’t enough for me to bite through my tongue, another cataloger actually said that “classification is nothing more than an address” and “not to fret over the call number.” I wish I knew which library she worked for. I’m sure this is a fine model for more research-oriented libraries like perhaps the Getty or LACMA. But as a group of not just catalogers, but catalogers serving arts libraries, I was appalled at the lack of understanding of patrons’ information-seeking behavior. These people are so busy counting the knotholes in the trees, not only do they not see the forest–they’ve forgotten the forest even exists.

It was my first meeting, and as a newbie and relative unknown, I wasn’t quite ready to vocalize my thoughts and make waves. (You might not guess it from my outspoken rants on this blog, but I’m actually fairly introverted and shy.) I’m still glad I went–I saw a few more potential rogues in the woods, and the meeting really opened my eyes in a lot of ways to just how entrenched we are in our methods of cataloging, how much momentum the history of cataloging carries, how hard it just might be to switch to a user-based model of cataloging. It’s going to be an uphill struggle, that’s for sure.

And now that I know what the general tenor of the group is like, I feel better about starting to broach the idea to the group slowly, perhaps with an announcement at the next meeting in February about my forthcoming book chapter about cataloging for art school users. It also makes me wonder if maybe the time isn’t right to pitch a session on user-based arts cataloging to ARLIS…but one thing at a time. Sometimes I have the problem of seeing just a little too much forest and not enough trees!

Mihin kirjaan sinä tarttuisit ensimmäisenä, jos voisit unohtaa velvollisuudet ja keskittyä itseesi talvihorroksen ajaksi?

Digiboksikin pullistelee ääriään myöten täytenä. Teemalta lähetettyjä Jim Jarmuschin elokuvia ja film noir klassikoita sekä roppa kaupalla Morsea, Rebuseja ja Crackereita. Ruoaksi voisi tehdä kaikkia niitä ruokia, joiden kuvia on ihaillut keittokirjoista jo vuosia, mutta joita ei ole koskaan tullut tehtyä arjen sirkkelin pyöriessä.

Kyynikko tietysti toteaa tässä vaiheessa, että onpa tuossa laiska ja erakoitunut sohvaperuna kirjastonhoitajaksi!

Somerset Art Assocation   has  an annual fundraiser   that   offer  small  original works of  art  at  an affordable  cost.  I have  two pieces    being offered  at  this fundrasier  which will last  throughout  the  month of November. the closing  reception  will be  December  5th,  snow  date   December  6th.   from  2pm-4pm  at the Somerset Art  Association located  in Bedminster  NJ,  www.somersetart.org

On october 16, 2009, six trade associations representing more than 50,000 photographers as well as 800 agencies and archives across UK, Europe and North America, gathered to pursue an open dialogue.

Attendees at the summit included: Picture Archive Council of America (PACA), The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), Coordination of European Picture Agencies (CEPIC), British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies (BAPLA), American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP), and Stock Artists Alliance (SAA), which is now a part of the Association of Visual Artists (AVA).

While the topics were complex, the purpose was simple, to outline means for collaboration during a difficult time. It is no secret several key issues threaten the health of the industry Throughout the conversation each trade association reviewed its mission and discussed top concerns. The associations came to the following conclusions:

1. Unanimously agreed that it was critical to keep each other updated on a regular basis about developments that are impacting their members.
2. Agreed that they have common interests to pursue on the Google Books Settlement, and they all have interests in the progress or lack of progress in Orphan Works legislation.
3. Agreed, in the interests of photographers and agencies, to keep each other informed about developments with publishers and to work together to help promote uniform licensing practices with the publishers on a national and international level.
4. Each association has educational programs targeted at different audiences. They all agree that the abuse of the ability to right click and usurp an image online is something to combat together. Leaders from ASPP, ASMP, PACA and SAA will gather again next week at PhotoExpo Plus. Coming to the table will be trade associations representing another 30,000 photographers in the effort to gain further common ground.

A South African Airways (SAA) anuncia que vai aumentar a atual operação de Buenos Aires de três voos por semana para voo diario, de 7 de junho a 18 de julho de 2010, ampliando significativamente a oferta de assentos durante a Copa do Mundo de Futebol que acontecerá na África do Sul no mesmo período.

“Nossa operação para a Argentina foi reiniciada em abril deste ano com três voos semanais entre Buenos Aires e Johannesburg. Com estas frequências adicionais, vamos reiterar a expectativa positiva para o aumento no tráfego de passageiros não só da Argentina mas de toda a América do Sul para a África do Sul” durante a Copa do Mundo, afirmou Nelson de Oliveira, Diretor Geral da SAA para a América do Sul.

A aeronove que será utilizada será um Boeing 747-400 com um total de 357 assentos divididos em Classe Econômica e Classe Executiva.

Com esses sete voos por semana para Buenos Aires e os 11 voos semanais já anunciados para São Paulo, a SAA oferecerá 18 voos por semana entre a América do Sul (Brasil e Argentina) e a África do Sul, ou 34.134 assentos no total para cada direção, durante todo o período da Copa do Mundo, o que representa um incremento de 115% no número de assentos, se comparado com o mesmo período de 2009 ou 194% de aumento se a comparação for feita com igual período de 2008.

“A América do Sul continua sendo uma das regiões mais estratégicas para os planos de crescimento da SAA. Nossa meta é operar no futuro quatro frequências diárias para São Paulo, Buenos Aires e Rio de Janeiro, o que vai garantir melhor conectividade a partir da África do Sul para outros pontos na África, Ásia e Austrália, ratificando a vocação natural de Johannesburg em ser o hub preferencial para o tráfego de passageiros entre os países do Hemisfério Sul”, completou Nelson de Oliveira.

TAM altera horários de voos no Norte e Nordeste devido ao horário de verão

A TAM Linhas Aéreas informa que, devido ao horário de verão, os voos operados pela companhia nas regiões Norte e Nordeste terão seus horários de chegada e partida antecipados em uma hora em relação ao horário local em vigor. A mudança inclui todos os voos da TAM operados nas seguintes cidades: Aracaju (SE), Belém, Marabá e Santarém (PA), Boa Vista (RR), Fortaleza (CE), Ilhéus, Porto Seguro e Salvador (BA), Imperatriz e São Luis (MA), João Pessoa (PB), Macapá (AP), Maceió (AL), Manaus (AM), Natal (RN), Palmas (TO), Porto Velho (RO), Recife (PE), Rio Branco (AC) e Teresina (PI). Aeroporto em Volta Redonda

Foi oficialmente anunciada a construção de um novo aeroporto na cidade de Volta Redonda (RJ), cujas obras devem estar concluídas em dois anos. Os planos do novo aeroporto foram já aprovados pelas autoridades responsáveis pelo controle ambiental.

Luz no fim do túnel

O organismo internacional IATA divulgou estudo sobre o desempenho previsto do transporte internacional de passageiros pelas empresas de aviação comercial em 2010, quando deverá ser atingido um crescimento de 4% sobre o total de 2009. Este ano será fechado com uma queda de quase 5% sobre o número de 2008.

Números da América Latina

A ALTA – Associação de Transporte Aéreo da América Latina e Caribe anunciou que no passado mês de agosto as empresas a ela associadas transportaram 10,7 milhões de passageiros, resultado 2,7% superior ao do mesmo mês de 2008. O tráfego (passageiros/Km) cresceu 2,6% em agosto e o aproveitamento da oferta foi de 70,6%, numa proporção de 1,8% sobre o aproveitamento de agosto do ano passado. Entre janeiro e agosto o total de passageiros transportados foi de 79,9 milhões.

Frontier e Lynx saem do Chapter 11

As companhias norte-americanas Frontier Airlines e Lynx Aviation saíram da proteção anti-falência garantida pelo Chapter 11 da legislação dos EUA, juntando-se à Chautauqua Airlines, à Midwest Airlines, à Mokulele Airlines, à Republic Airlines e à Shuttle America na condição de subsidiárias da Republic Airways Holdings.

O organismo internacional IATA divulgou números sobre o desenvolvimento do transporte aéreo previsto para o ano que vem. No segmento de carga aérea a IATA antecipa um aumento de 5,5% em 2010 sobre o desempenho de 2009, quando foram transportadas 14,5% menos cargas que em 2008.

Roll Out do G650

A Gulfstream retirou da linha de montagem seu primeiro jato executivo tipo G650, cujos voos de ensaio começam antes do fim do ano e cuja homologação está prevista para 2011. A aeronave destaca-se por ser o modelo Gulfstream com maior espaço interno de cabina (102 pés X 77 pés), e o mais veloz (Mach 0.925 em cruzeiro) desenvolvido até hoje pelo fabricante, caracterizando-se por asas de novo desenho e alto desempenho e por duas turbinas Rolls Royce RB725.

Goodrich inaugura em São Carlos

A Goodrich do Brasil vai inaugurar, no próximo dia 28 de outubro, na cidade paulista de São Carlos, sua primeira oficina de manutenção, reparo e revisão geral de equipamentos para aeronaves na América Latina e Caribe. É a sexta unidade desse tipo criada pela Goodrich fora dos Estados Unidos, equipada para apoiar tecnicamente equipamentos como naceles, reversores, superfícies de controle de voo e outras componentes de aeronaves. BAE fecha fábrica

A inglesa BAe Systems anunciou que pretende encerrar as atividades de sua unidade industrial de Woodford (Ceshire), na Grã Bretanha, tão logo ela termine a entrega dos jatos de patrulha marítima “Nimrod” MRA4, que hoje produz para a Real Força Aérea. Os derradeiros exemplares dessa encomenda da RAF serão entregues em 2013, e depois disso os 630 funcionários da indústria serão demitidos.

Galeão ainda está longe de saturar, diz Anac 

Segundo dados apresentados pelo coronel Valdir Padilha, gerente de Malha Aérea Internacional da Anac, o Aeroporto Internacional do Galeão, no rio de Janeiro, deverá apresentar saturação de seus terminais somente em 2013. “Isso é uma previsão partindo do que temos atualmente. Até lá, pode haver investimentos e melhorias e essa expectativa mudar”, afirmou. O pátio do aeroporto deve alcançar saturação somente após 2025, e a pista, em 2023.

Argentina terá voo diário da South African durante a Copa do Mundo de 2010 

A South African Airways (SAA) anuncia que vai aumentar a atual operação de Buenos Aires de três voos por semana para voo diário, de 7 de junho a 18 de julho de 2010, ampliando significativamente a oferta de assentos durante a Copa do Mundo de Futebol que acontecerá na África do Sul no mesmo período.

“Nossa operação para a Argentina foi reiniciada em abril deste ano com três voos semanais entre Buenos Aires e Johannesburg. Com estas frequências adicionais vamos reiterar a expectativa positiva para o aumento no tráfego de passageiros não só da Argentina mas de toda a América do Sul para a África do Sul” durante a Copa do Mundo, afirmou Nelson de Oliveira, Diretor Geral da SAA para a América do Sul.

A aeronave que será utilizada será um Boeing 747-400 com um total de 357 assentos divididos em Classe Econômica e Classe Executiva.

Jad Taxi Aéreo e TWO Taxi Aéreo realizam encontro nacional sobre segurança de voo

Como operar as aeronaves de forma segura e atuar com foco na prevenção de acidentes é o tema do 3° Encontro Nacional de Segurança de Voo, que as empresas Jad Taxi Aéreo e a TWO Táxi Aéreo, ambas pertencentes ao Grupo Jad, realizam no próximo dia 1º de novembro, das 8h30 às 18h30, no espaço de eventos do Quality Resource Hotel, em Itupeva, interior de São Paulo.

Direcionado a clientes, parceiros e a todos os funcionários das empresas, o evento terá uma programação intensa relacionada aos diferentes aspectos de prevenção de acidentes. Pluna voará para Foz e já pensa em BSB, BH e CPQ

A Pluna inaugura no dia 18 de novembro a quinta base regular no Brasil, desta vez em Foz do Iguaçu (PR). A empresa uruguaia fará dois voos por semana, às quartas-feiras e aos sábados, ligando a Argentina, o Chile e o Uruguai à cidade e vice-versa, segundo o gerente comercial da Pluna para o Brasil, Gonzalo Mazaferro. De acordo com o executivo, para 2010 a companhia estuda três novos mercados para operar no País: Brasília (DF), Belo Horizonte (MG) e Campinas (SP). Ainda de acordo com Mazaferro, a nova empresa do grupo fundada na Argentina, a Aerovip, inclusive, já está fazendo os registros com os órgãos reguladores para poder operar no País a partir de 2010.

Impronte di passi che si materializzano nella notte in 150 luoghi di ritrovo giovanile della città di Torino e uno slogan: Don’t stand by, che intende invitare i giovani a spegnere l’inutile lucetta degli apparecchi elettronici che consuma senza produrre, ma, allo stesso tempo, nella sua accezione letterale, a “non stare fermi”, ad impegnarsi cioè attivamente per la salvaguardia dell’ambiente.

E’ questo il concept dell’iniziativa ideata per il progetto “Uniamo le Energie” dai ragazzi di Egg 2.0, i quindici giovani creativi provenienti da tutta Italia, selezionati nel maggio scorso attraverso un concorso internazionale e che per un anno intero lavoreranno presso gli spazi della Giorgio Risi srl di Lungo Dora Colletta 95, nell’ambito di un progetto di ricerca realizzato dall’Università di Torino in collaborazione con la Scuola d’Amministrazione Aziendale (SAA) di Torino, Giorgio Risi srl, avigdor&associati srl e Pragmos S.p.A., finalizzato a reperire e coltivare giovani talenti nelle discipline creative.

Ma dove e come comunicare questo messaggio ai giovani torinesi?
Dal logo di “Uniamo le Energie” nascono dunque delle impronte di passi che portano verso un altro logo, quello di “Don’t Stand By”. Passi che sono stati dipinti nella notte tra l’1 e il 2 di ottobre e che sono comparsi questa mattina in contemporanea in oltre 150 luoghi di grande presenza giovanile: scuole e licei, locali, ritrovi, piazze e vie di incontri. Da Piazza Solferino a Porta Susa, dall’Università al Politecnico, passi di movimento, di azione, di partecipazione. Passi dipinti in terra – evitando le zone auliche e le superfici nobili, come i marmi- con vernici ad acqua e pigmenti rigorosamente naturali. Segni urbani che, per la prima volta in assoluto, saranno cancellati fra quindici giorni dagli stessi writers che li hanno realizzati.

Un richiamo dunque ad uno degli eventi clou di “Uniamo le Energie” costituito dall’arrivo a Torino del Sustainable Dance Floor, la prima discoteca sostenibile d’Europa che si autocarica con il movimento delle persone che ballano in pista, grazie ad un pavimento in grado di trasformare l’energia cinetica in energia elettrica.

Nell’ambito delle iniziative di comunicazione dedicate a “Uniamo le Energie” Egg 2.0, ha  dunque inteso proporre alla Regione Piemonte un’azione specifica per coinvolgere il target giovani che partisse dalla necessità di coinvolgerli realmente in azioni di risparmio energetico. I giovani, si sa, sono forse i più sensibili agli argomenti di eco sostenibilità, ma il loro raggio di azione è limitato: carica-cellulari, computer, iPod, televisioni sono i loro mezzi ed è proprio sui quei mezzi che Egg 2.0 ha scelto di invitarli a risparmiare energia, eliminando lo stand by, la lucetta  degli apparecchi elettronici che consuma anche quando l’apparecchio è inutilizzato e solo apparentemente spento.

Delta inicia voo Brasília-Atlanta em 18/12

A Delta Air Lines inaugura em 18 de dezembro a operação que ligará Brasília a Atlanta, nos Estados Unidos. De acordo com o diretor para o Brasil da Delta Air Lines, Luiz Henrique Teixeira, o voo acontecerá três vezes por semana e será operado pelo equipamento Boeing 757. Na próxima semana, serão revelados todos os detalhes da operação. Na ocasião, além de Teixeira, estarão reunidos em Brasília o vice-governador do Distrito Federal, Paulo Octavio, o presidente da Brasiliaturis, João Oliveira, e o vice-presidente para América Latina e Caribe da Delta Air Lines, Christophe Didier.

Mais voos no London City

O Aeroporto London City foi autorizado a aumentar em cerca de 50% o número diário de operações de pouso e decolagem. A licença foi dada pelo Comitê de Desenvolvimento do London Borough. Com essa autorização o aeroporto construído nas região das docas de Londres poderá operar até 120 mil operações por ano.

Cai movimento na Inglaterra

Segundo um levantamento recente da CAA (Civil Aviation Authority), da Inglaterra, os aeroportos da Grã Bretanha registraram, nos primeiros seis meses deste ano, uma queda média de 10% no total de passageiros embarcados e desembarcados. Nenhum dos 25 maiores terminais do país registrou crescimento no primeiro semestre. Essa queda está ligada à crise econômica internacional, e se entre os 25 mais importantes aeroportos britânicos a queda é preocupante, em alguns dos menores foi catastrófica. Tal é o caso do aeroporto de Durham Tees Valley, no Nordeste da Inglaterra, que no primeiro semestre de 2008 tinha registrado 323 mil passageiros e no mesmo período deste ano atingiu apenas 148 mil.

Vancouver melhora vigilância

O Aerporto Internacional de Vancouver transformou-se no primeiro aeroporto comercial do mundo a equipar seu detector tipo FOD (Foreign Object Debris) com uma câmera tipo dia-e-noite de observação. O sistema detecta qualquer objeto estranho que tenha caído nas pistas de pouso e táxi do aeroporto. Estudo recente mostra que a cada ano a presença desses detritos nos aeroportos é responsável por perdas de aproximadamente US$ 12 bilhões em avarias às aeronaves, acidentes e perdas de vidas.

Festa chilena censurada

A imprensa de Santiago do Chile criticou a iniciativa da empresa LAN, que comemorou os “80 anos” de sua existência. Na realidade, a data se refere à inauguração da Línea Aeropostal Santiago-Arica, criada pelo Governo chileno, que anos depois evoluiu para a empresa, também estatal, LAN. Só posteriormente a companhia foi privatizada. Por isso, segundo os jornalistas, a única coisa comum entre as duas é a participação governamental na sua implantação. Mesmo assim a LAN batizou um dos seus novos jatos Airbus A320 com a sigla “80 años”.

Aeronave para a DHL

O primeiro Boeing B.767-3JHF(ER) encomendado pela companhia DHL foi entregue à transportadora nos primeiros dias de setembro. A aeronave, adaptada de um modelo de passageiros, recebeu “winglets” especiais e depois dos testes foi introduzida na linha Leipzig/Cincinnati.

Novas instalações em Houston

O Houston Airport System inaugurou no Aeroporto George Bush International as novas instalações do seu terminal para cargas refrigeradas, um prédio de 5.712 metros quadrados onde as condições de baixa temperatura permitem guardar cargas frias em condições ideais.

Suporte Embraer de pós venda

A entrega recente do primeiro de dois jatos Embraer 190 encomendados pela empresa LAM (Moçambique), envolve desdobramentos positivos para o fabricante brasileiro. Além desses aviões a transportadora africana assinou também direitos de compra para outros dois aviões semelhantes. E firmou contrato tipo “Pool Flight Hour Program” envolvendo o fornecimento de partes e peças de reposição para os aviões. Com esse contrato a LAM elimina a necessidade de manter estoques de sobressalentes.

Venezuela doa Mirage 50 ao Equador

Rafael Correa, presidente do Equador, anunciou no dia 28 de setembro que o país vai receber uma doação de seis caças Dassault Mirage 50 da Venezuela. Segundo o Correa, as aeronaves “estão em boas condições”. Lentamente, o Equador está ampliando o seu poderio aéreo. Em março deste ano, a Embraer confirmou a venda de 24 Super Tucano, versão biplace ao país e, recentemente, o Chile anunciou a venda de seus últimos Mirage 50M Pantera a Força Aérea do Equador. Ao todo, são 14 aeronaves que serão revitalizadas e entregues à partir de 2010. Correa destacou ainda que o país estuda a possibilidade de comprar sistemas de radares e helicópteros para a força aérea.

South African Airways apresenta lucro de US$ 53,3 milhões

A South African Airways (SAA) apresentou lucro líquido de 398 milhões de rands sul-africanos (US$ 53,3 milhões) no último ano fiscal da empresa (2008/2009), que terminou em 31 de março deste ano. No ano fiscal anteior (2007/2008), a SAA havia registrado prejuízo líquido de pouco mais de 1 bilhão de rands (US$ 145,5 milhões).

De acordo com as análises da própria companhia, mesmo em período de crise, a SAA não apenas conseguiu sobreviver sob condições tão adversas, mas também conseguiu alcançar uma substancial recuperação operacional, devida, em grande parte, a um processo de reestruturação profundo, iniciado em 2007. Esse processo foi concluído no final do último ano fiscal (31 de março deste ano), com resultados como a redução adequada de custo, crescimento de receita e aumento de produtividade e eficiência. A reestruturação gerou uma redução total de custos da ordem de 2,5 bilhões de rands (US$ 335 milhões) em um período de dois anos, índice 8% acima do objetivo.

Além disso, a SAA teve um crescimento em seu market share na África, que permanece sendo seu mercado mais rentável, seguindo uma decisão estratégica de concentrar planos de crescimento na região. No doméstico, a posição da empresa continua forte, apoiada pela empresa low cost do grupo, a Mango. Nas operações internacionais, houve crescimento significativo nos mercados da América do Sul e Austrália.

Confira os demais números do desempenho operacional da SAA:

- Lucro operacional de 1,9 bilhão de rands (US$ 254,8 milhões) contra um breakeven no ano anterior (antes dos custos de reestruturação de 1,3 bilhão de rands ou US$ 174,4 milhões).

- A receita total da empresa cresceu na ordem de 19% para 26,4 bilhões de rands, aproximadamente US$ 3,5 bilhões (contra os 22,3 bilhões de rands do ano anterior ou US$ 2,9 bilhões).

- Os custos (excluindo-se combustível e reestruturação) aumentaram em s 2%, passando de 15,6 bilhões de rands (US$ 2,08 bilhões) para 15,9 bilhões de rands (US$ 2,1 bilhões), apesar do câmbio do rand ter permanecido fraco no período.

- A conta com combustível subiu 28% ou 1,9 bilhão de rands (US$ 254,8 milhões), alcançando 8,6 bilhões de rands (US$ 1,1 bilhões), contra os 6,7 bilhões de rands do ano anterior (US$ 897,2 milhões), o que corresponde praticamente a 35% dos custos operacionais totais do ano fiscal 2008/2009.

- A renegociação nas encomendas do Airbus A320 resultou em um impacto positivo na declaração de receita de 407 milhões de Rands (US$ 54,5 milhões).

Projeto do novo aeroporto de Ilhéus (BA) avança

O Governador da Bahia, Jaques Wagner, e o presidente da Infraero, Murilo Marques Barboza, reuniram-se para falar sobre o novo aeroporto de Ilhéus. A intenção do Governador é que as obras do porto, da ferrovia e do aeroporto estejam caminhando para uma futura integração dos modais. “Será um aeroporto estratégico”, disse Jaques Wagner, na presença da Secretária de Estado da Casa Civil, Eva Maria Cella Dal Chiavon.

A Infraero e o governo da Bahia firmaram, em agosto, Acordo de Cooperação para a construção do novo aeroporto. Murilo explicou que já está sendo finalizado o estudo preliminar do Plano Diretor do aeroporto e, até meados de outubro, a Infraero vai apresentar requerimento ao Instituto do Meio Ambiente (IMA), órgão ambiental da Bahia, visando a Licença Prévia ambiental (LP) do novo aeroporto.

O cronograma de trabalho prevê ações que começaram em agosto e deverão se estender até julho de 2012, quando deverão ser concluídos os projetos de arquitetura e engenharia da primeira fase do novo aeroporto, que estará situado dentro da Área de Proteção Ambiental da Lagoa Encantada. Só o processo de licenciamento ambiental tem previsão de durar quase dois anos, mas este prazo poderá ser encurtado. Após a conclusão de todos os processos que antecedem à licitação das obras do novo aeroporto, a Infraero assumirá a responsabilidade pela construção do aeroporto. Ao governo baiano caberá a implantação de infraestrutura básica até os limites do sítio aeroportuário.

O Acordo de Cooperação tem validade de três anos e prevê o desembolso de R$ 6,5 milhões por parte da Infraero e de R$ 7,2 milhões pelo Governo da Bahia, apenas para a formatação do projeto e estudos preliminares. O custo da obra, as dimensões e os prazos para conclusão do novo aeroporto só poderão ser definidos após a conclusão desta etapa. Após a conclusão do novo aeroporto, que deverá ocorrer entre 2014 e 2016, as atuais instalações serão desativadas pela Infraero e a área do atual aeroporto será incorporada à cidade.

Tam assina com Austrian Airlines para acúmulo de pontos

A Tam firmou um acordo com a Austrian Airlines, integrante da Star Alliance, para permitir que os membros do programa Tam Fidelidade possam acumular e resgatar pontos em voos operados pela empresa austríaca. Os passageiros da Austrian Airlines que utilizam o programa Miles & More já contam com esse benefício nos voos da Tam desde fevereiro do ano passado. A nova parceria entra em vigor a partir de hoje. “O acordo que acabamos de assinar com a Austrian está alinhado com nossa estratégia de integração à Star Alliance. Com isso, estamos estabelecendo parcerias com as principais companhias aéreas do mundo e ampliando os benefícios oferecidos aos nossos clientes”, afirmou o vice-presidente comercial e de Planejamento da Tam, Paulo Castello Branco.

Depois de Amadeus, Taca anuncia acordo com Sabre

A Taca, um dia depois de anunciar um acordo de conteúdo total com a Amadeus, divulgou um comunicado informando que também firmou uma parceria com o Sabre. O contrato, também de conteúdo total, tem validade de cinco anos. As agências conectadas ao sistema de distribuição terão acesso a todas as tarifas publicadas e inventário completo de aérea, incluindo funcionalidades como venda de últimos assentos disponíveis, code-shares, boletins eletrônicos, entre outras ferramentas. “A medida que estendemos nosso conteúdo para as agências de viagens, esperamos, da mesma forma, a colaboração dos profissionais. Esses contratos estreitam ainda mais a nossa relação com o mercado e mostra que estamos dispostos a mostrar toda a qualidade dos nossos serviços”, afirmou o vice-presidente comercial da companhia, Matt Vincett.
