A decade since their last album, 2000’s Lover’s Rock, Sade are set to release Soldier of Love worldwide on February 8th, 2010! I grew up listening to Sade which makes it hard to believe that Soldier of Love will only be the 6th studio album for the band whose career spans 25 years and counting!

Mere nørderi. I går aftes så Ane og jeg en dokumentarfilm om trekkies, “Trekkies 2” — og den var både morsom og tankevækkende og alt det dér. Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar) rejser i filmen rundt i verden og deltager i diverse “Star Trek”-events og taler med hardcore-fans — og hun besøger bl.a. Serbien, hvor “the Federation ideals” samler nogle af de mennesker, unge som gamle, som har oplevet krigens rædsler. Hvilket giver mig lejlighed til at nævne, at vi – Ane og jeg – i går også var en tur i vores lokale Tiger-butik (mens byens store juletræ blev tændt lige udenfor), hvor jeg købte et eksemplar af Jens-Martin Eriksens og Frederik Stjernfelts bog, “Hadets anatomi“. “By Your Side” is the lead single from English group Sade’s fifth studio album, Lovers Rock. It was released in October 2000. The track was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, losing out to Nelly Furtado’s “I’m Like a Bird“. The video for this single was directed by Sophie Muller.

Chart Performance

“By Your Side” reached number seventy-five on the US Billboart Hot 100 chart, the week of January 20, 2001. It did better on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart landing at forty-one, and number two on the Dance/Club Play charts.

The Remixes

The Neptunes remix was the work of by now ultra famous Pharrell Williams, along with Chad Hugo. They are credited with contributing the sound for some successful Hip hop, R&B and Pop artists in the late-90s and 2000s.

I have no information on the producers of the Yard and Reggae remixes.

The Cottonbelly remix was created by one of Sade’s band members, Stuart Matthewman. He remixed other artists like Janet Jackson, Maxwell, and P.M. Dawn.

The Lazy Dog Remix was created by Ben Watt, best known as member of Everything but the Girl, along with his wife Tracey Thorn. He also remixed tracks by Zero 7, Maxwell, Meshell Ndegeocello.

The Naked Music Mix was produced by Naked Music. They have remixed artists such as Kelis, Maxwell, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Britney Spears. This mix was not released on Sony, but I suspect it was officially licensed. Some sources claim it was created by Naked Music co-founder Jay Denes, also known as Bluesix, while others credit Miguel Migs, who has collaborated with Naked Music.

Single Information:

Comes in slimline jewelcase. As with most european Sony releases, this cd single was made in Austria for distribution in the UK and the rest of Europe.

Track 1 is an edit of the album version. Tracks 2, 3, and 4 are remixes.

Track 5 contains a CDRom section which features the “By Your Side” video.

Word on the internet is that Sade is finally returning to music. It has been like 9 or 10 years since her last efforts and i was surfing the mighty web and read that her album is due out in February of next year. When i read that Sade was returning  I became super GEEKED! I remember growing up and my father would have all of her records playing in the basement. I would listen and fall in love, LoL! I think that was my first puppy love. She is the true definition of seductive, beautiful, & talented, so you can understand why I had to make this post even thou I have not heard any of her new material.  I will keep you posted whenever she drops that first single. Now all i need is Ms L. Boogie Hill to come back and I am good.

Alors je tenais juste à partager la nouvelle parce que c’est trop de bonheur… Après 10 ans d’absence, SADE revient avec un nouvel album: SOLDIER OF LOVE.

Ça sort le 8 février 2010, on ne sait pas ce qu’il y a dedans, mais on sait qu’il y a Maxwell quelque part, et on sait que c’est du SADEEEEEEE. En ces temps obscurs je ne peux qu’adorer le titre, et une pochette magnifique, qui la positionne encore une fois au-dessus de toutes les midinettes R&B d’aujourd’hui. La classe éternelle…. SADE JE T’AIME!!!

Where to even begin? I just found out that the band Sade is releasing their first album in a decade. Sony released a statement yesterday that their new album, titled “Soldier of Love” will be released worldwide 8 February 2010… six days before Valentine’s Day. That is actually a very strategic move on their part.

Now Sade is not for everyone, esp. those our age, but you can at least recognize their 25 year career, with hits like “Smooth Operator”, and “Your Love is King”. And I am loving how Sade Adu, has her 50 year-old sexy back, on display as the album’s cover art. Loves.

Please, please, please tell me there are others of you out there, in the switch.universe, that are as excited as I am.

clearly, one of the Greatest of All Time, but do you ever feel that’s she’s criminally slept on? luckily, monika and dean have reignited my passion for the High Priestess of Earthly Love. yesterday, dean pointed out the plethora of chopped and screwed mixes of sade songs on youtube, which has since been picked up by dj/rupture, wayne&wax, and the chicago reader (good things move fast on the interweb).

i was instantly craving a full screwtape and found a classic in feel no pain mixed by dj slackboi. it is perfect and absolutely devastating. slackboi unearths layers in songs that i had previously thought taught me everything there was to know about love. it almost feels like sade was sending secret messages about the depths of human emotion between each note and within each lyric that only slowing down could unlock. listening to “king of sorrow,” i become aware of a few inexpressible facets of grief and the totality of the burden of love.

it breathlessly transitions into “somebody already broke my heart” and i feel the bottom caving in… all knowledge about the communal experience of heartbreak gained in the previous song is shattered by the reality that we are all alone in our own universe of lost loves. instead of holding on to the memory of love, maybe it’s best just to triage and minimize the overwhelming pain and loneliness of it all.

how hot does this look?! she looks like an aztec tango warrior-goddess from the future! i would suggest holding a listening party, but i feel like it should be best experienced for the first time with a consensual “listening partner.”

Ok so I’m not a fan of Sade’s yet but I havent heard her music to disprove her, however that wasn’t the reason why I posted this. I was browsing one of my regular sites when I came across this picture, at first I thought it was art then I found out it was an album cover, instantly I loved it. This picture is the cover art for Sade’s new LP ”Soldier of Love”. I havent heard anything from it yet but it’s due out on February 8th 2010, I’ll be on the look out now as I love this.

I know you’re probably like say what??? I felt like I was hallucinating when I saw this. I know I’m a couple days late but I still had to post this. Sade is like my idol. I love pretty much all her work that I’ve ever heard and I’m so excited for this. I’m sure she won’t disappoint.
