The Best:

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta. We have to discuss Tina Fey straightaway because she looked incredible on Sunday night, and she typically bombs the fashion test so bad you want to choke her out. The cut of the gown is perfect for her; it gives her some great curves. The lace is amazing— it’s intricate without being a red version of your granny’s favorite doily. Her hair is chic but not old, and her face looks flawless. Fist bump to Tina for pulling this out.

Julia Stiles in Monique L’huillier. Yes, this homewrecker again. But she’s bringing it, yes? Something serious. This navy-to-white ombré gown is beautiful. Makes me think of space for some reason, but I’m all over it. Love the extensions— they aren’t Britney-busted or Lohan-cheap. Her eyes have a touch of smoke to them, but the rest of the face is fresh. Fabulous!

Sofia Vergara in Roberto Cavalli. This body. This body is sick, right? So crazy. Love that she has serious curves (not like imagined bullshit curves some starlets try to convince us they have— I’m looking at you, Giselle). Cobalt blue, so you know I’m immediately drawn to it. The weaving at the waist is gorgeous and super flattering. So pretty!

Dianna Agron in Chanel Haute Couture. Old Hollywood glamour (without the finger waves). In love with this!  If there’s anything better than Chanel, it’s vintage Chanel. The modified tea length gown is perfect; I think I’d have turned my nose up a bit if it truly hit mid-calf. Love the navy, the ribbon detail at the bust and the waist, and her simple platform pumps. Her hair is smooth and a little modern— so happy she didn’t pull out some January Jones sculpted nonsense. Loved her gentle smoky eye and pink lip.

Claire Danes in Louis Vuitton. Such a cool dress. I love the floral print (huge for Spring 2011). It’s both girly and edgy at the same time. Sweet ruffle detail at the chest, but just enough to keep it from being too precious. Am digging the belt— it highlights Danes’ tiny waist. Another nod to cool by tucking the strap under and then letting it hang. Loved this look; a great departure from her usual chic minimalist choices.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta. Sooo much better than her cotton candy wannabe-Paltrow at the Globes. This is rich and super sexy. Only a small(er)-chested girl could pull off a neckline like that (Sofia Vergara’s girls would punch that neckline in the face). I love this on Lea. The whole thing is a little slinky 70s, but in a perfect way. Her tousled hair lends a casual vibe to the super glamorous gown, which is a great choice at the more-casual SAGs. A full updo would’ve been overkill.

Hailee Steinfeld in Prada. Who is this girl!? Kidding, I’m well aware. But talk about a coming out party! Hailee looks phenomenal here, but also very age-appropriate. Homegirl is 14, and I adore that she’s doing 14 a solid rather than trying to be some Lolita-Cyrus-Sexpot hybrid. This Prada gown is so much fun; Hailee has the slim build to pull of bold horizontal stripes. The trumpet at the skirts adds a little flirt. Her bright pink nails are perfect, as are her long loose waves. Are you taking notes, Miley? This should have been in your playbook: how you get the attention of the public without flashing your lady business.

Natalie Portman in Azzaro. Someone stepped her game up from the Globes, yes? Love this white sheath— the sparkle at the neckline draws your eye up, and the gown is hugging her super cute baby bump (something that lame pink-and-red Valentine’s business didn’t do last go-round). Her hair is a little austere; soft waves would have been amazing. But Natalie looks gorgeous here; who says pregnant ladies can’t wear white successfully?

Mila Kunis is Alexander McQueen. My favorite dress of the night. Mila nailed it. The print was pretty without sacrificing that edge. It’s a little, “Wait, is she bleeding?” And that’s so McQueen. The pretty hits you first, and then you look a little longer and you see the cheeky, possibly-inappropriate side. The belt draws it in and shows off that post-ballerina figure. She was floating down the carpet! Her hair is amazing; exactly how it should be for the SAGs. Light, loose, fun. How sexy is she?!

The Meh:

Jessica Lawrence in Oscar de la Renta. Oscar almost batted 100o on Sunday night, if it weren’t for this little misstep. I almost liked this; the bright pink in a draped gown (is it chiffon?) is fun. But what is that black belt? I loved most everything belted at this year’s SAGs, but the black and pink contrast had me flashing back (violently) to January Jones at the 2010 Met Ball. Fembot, right? Plus that hair is too stiff, too pulled back.

Angie Harmon in Monique L’huillier. Someone’s wearing a couture pink milkshake. Or maybe a Swan Lake nod— Bjork? Is that you? I don’t mind a few feathers, and it’s certainly on trend with all the clamor over Black Swan. But this just felt a little much, a little try-hard… Take away the pink + shorten the skirt, and this is a really cute, sassy number. As-is, this gown is over the top and too formal for the SAGs.

The Worst:

Jenna Fischer in Fendi. Zzz’s… I’m bored. This dress doesn’t do much for her body, and the color doesn’t do much for her complexion. It washes her out. It’s amateur around the middle, and the sleeves are dumpy. Blah, bad.

Paz de la Huerta in ??? I have no idea who designs this dress, and after 5 minutes of googling I realize I don’t care because it’s so ass-ugly it doesn’t deserve my search engine time. Let’s talk about what is wrong with this picture: 1) is it made of cheap, glitter lamé from Michaels? 2) Those seams under the bust and at the knee are budget. Like 7th grade home-ec sewing class bad. 3) Are your lips black? Who told you this was flattering? 4) Please observe the leopard lining peeking out at the bottom of the skirt. I typically don’t have a problem with animal print, or an animal print lining. But when coupled with this nightmare, it ups the WTF? Factor.

January Jones in Carolina Herrera. Note to January Jones’ agent/publicist/mother: Your daughter is seriously thin. And wayyyy thinner than when she first broke out on the scene, so don’t feed me the “that’s just her body” line. Because I’m over it. And she’s doesn’t look as thin here as she did on the red carpet show. Live and in motion, she looked sickly. Like she could snap. But let’s get back to the dress— this dress makes January look like a gold-plated candle stick holder. Maybe the French one from Beauty and Beast? And if she doesn’t stop with the retro hair, I’m going to scream. We get it; you’re in Mad Man and it’s a retro show, whatever. Do something different.

Kate Mara in Herve Leger by Max Azria. The following should never be inspirations for a red carpet gown: accordions, those paper chains you make for the countdown to Christmas, stripper corsets or an 18-hour Playtex bra. All no-no’s. What was Kate thinking? Such a pretty girl; such a terrible dress. And is that pre-wrap in her hair?

I don’t really watch award shows all that often. When I do, however, I pretty much only watch to see what sort of fashions walk the read carpet. Quite obviously, that would be my favorite part. So I just thought I would share some of my favorite dresses from the red carpet last night:

Maternity Looks:

Portman had on $2 million worth of jewelry which required her to have body guards follow her around just to protect the jewelry

Looks gorgeous but I'm sure it must be a pain to wear heels when pregnant...

Pretty in Pinks and Peaches:

I've been told that she's my doppleganger, but she looks a whole lot better than I did last night... Ha...

She looks like a Disney princess. This dress brings out the little girl in me.

I love this color on her. This dress is gorgeous.

Again, Disney princess and I love it.

Black is the new black:

I love that this dress is so classic yet so unique.

Most people shy away from jumpsuits but If you can wear one like this and look amazing then more power to you.

This dress looked gorgeous on her and fit perfectly in all the right places.

Fabulous Prints and Patterns:

I think this dress is so cute. If I was 14 years old and nominated for an award, I would totally wear this dress too.

I love how this flows with the pattern but also has the black belt that ties it all together.

This was probably my second favorite look of the night. I love this Alexander McQueen gown.

You can never go wrong with a killer red dress, and I love how this one keeps it interesting with some texture.

Silver and Gold:

While this is not the most flattering dress on Melissa Leo, I still love the design and the metallic sheen.

The color is a bit monotonous but I like the simplicity of this dress.

and now for my favorite dress of the night:

This was my favorite dress of the night. As soon as I saw a picture of it I gasped at the gorgeousness of it. It's so unique and I feel like it's the kind of dress that could look good on anyone. I want this dress so bad.

Nothing really to say but he did an awesome job hosting the show.  I read that he was in theater before maybe that’s why the awkward, or should I say awkberg, confidence is there.

I laughed out loud the moment Mark Zuckerberg was shown because the way he says his lines was just the funniest thing. He just proved that not all people can act. He was, however, a truly great sport and has a sense of humor.

Jesse and Andy Samberg also looked like they can be brothers! But my favorite part is this. . .

BERG BERG BERG EVERYWHERE!!!!!

Speaking of Jesse Eisenberg, I was watching the replay of the of the SAGs red carpet and Guiliana Rancic has the most ridiculous thing to say in these award shows. An example of her ridiculousness,

Guiliana: Jesse, you hosted Saturday Night Live last night, how did you get here so quickly?!?

Jesse: *Pause* On an airplane. . .

First point shows what journalism smarts is NOT. Second point shows why I love this man so much.

In my opinion, the overall style and feel of the fashion walking the red carpet this year is of a completely higher caliber than in years past.  We’re seeing classy chignons paired Roberto Cavalli, bold colors in Versace, and the classic minimalist brilliance of the Calvin Klein Collection (did you see Emma Stone and Claire Danes at the Golden Globes?? I thought I’d died and gone to a blissful peachy heaven).

After seeing the multitude of  actors walk the red carpet at both the Golden Globes and the SAGs,  I’ve narrowed it down to my top two favorite actresses who WORKED the two awards shows.  I wait with baited breath to see the big guns they pull out for the Oscars.

Mila Kunis

I seriously thought that Kunis’s dress at the Golden Globes couldn’t be topped.  The stunning deep green, off the shoulder Vera Wang was coupled with an effortless updo, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, Judith Leiber clutch and Yves Saint Laurent shoes.  …And then she played the Alexander McQueen card.

Speechless.  Beautifully crafted, and expertly chosen. You can never go wrong with a McQueen in my book.

January Jones

The Golden Globes showed a juxtaposition of  light and dark as the prominent theme.   Blacks, navys, champagnes, and a little bit of glitter were the predominant colors.  Imagine my delight when our from the sea of monochromatia steps January Jones in this bombshell fringed Versace gown.  The hair was very Grace Kelly, and I felt it complimented the “wow” factor of the dress beautifully.  The only thing better than this dress was the one she pulled out for the SAGs:

Jones stuck with the retro hairstyle and it makes almost just as much of a statement as this Carolina Herrera dress, Lorraine Schwartz jewels, Roger Vivier shoes, and a Tod’s bag. Can we all just agree that my God the woman is FLAWLESS?

Melody Burdette - (VP of Publicity)

I will start by first saying how glad I am that Modern Family won for Comedy, Christian Bale won Supporting Actor for The Fighter, Melissa Leo won Supporting Actress for The Fighter , and Natalie Portman won Best Actress for Black Swan. I was hoping for a James Franco upset but that is just too good to be true.

Now with Tom Hooper winning the Director’s Guild yesterday and The King’s Speech just winning the Best Ensemble at the SAGs, the race is over folks. I would very much still want to be surprised, but it looks like the Academy is going to lean on a tried-and-tested formula for their Best Picture this year. The only precursor left is the BAFTAs, and come on, the British Academy will give it to The King’s Speech. Do I think it deserves it? No. I like The King’s Speech but it isn’t the best picture of the year. But what do I know, I am not a member of the Academy. And for sure there will be a backlash against TKS now.

It was just an amazing turn of events. The Social Network was winning almost all critics choice awards then BAM, just like that the tables are turned. It all started with the Producer’s Guild when the race is slowly turning into The King’s Speech side, then come Oscars nominations where TKS has clearly emerged to be the winner. To be fair, critics isn’t the Academy – the Academy is made up of entirely different voters.

I guess David Fincher is ok with all of this. His attitude towards The Social Network and the praises it is getting seems really odd, like he’s embarrassed for the acclaim. 

But yeah, CHRRRRRRRRRRRRRISTIAN BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALE!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and this guy too!

What an opportune time to host because this is a great awards campaign for him. All the more that the next day after he’ll be in the SAGs.

Truthfully I find this a rather odd choice and I am kind of worried for him. But he has a knack for comedy, albeit his dry sense of humour that not a lot of people get. It will be fun see him nervous and talk really fast though. I hope they let him sing too. I’ve becoming such a fan of his that I already set my mind into watching that animated feature he’ll do where he is a blue bird. (John Powell is also doing the score for that film so I’m really going to watch it even if it looks like Avatar in bird form.)

Last but not the least, this is an obligatory “OH MY GOODNESS HE IS JUST SOOOOO ADORABLE! LOOK AT HIM!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

So whats the secret to weight loss without “baggies”?

Concentrate on slow regular weightloss and a well balanced diet. That means 2 pounds a week for women, and 4-6 pounds a week for men. Give your skin what it needs to catch up.

Add plenty of Lucine rich foods to your diet to help build muscle. It weighs more, but is more compact…and its what  skin needs for support.

Keep your skin elastic with a good moisturizer. Olive oil, grapeseed oil, and avocado oil are great, but if you have really dry skin coconut oil can be a life saver.

Remember the goal isn’t just to lose weight. It is to look good, and live well.

Vanishing on 7th St.‘s trailer no. 2 looks like it reveals everything about the plot. Everyone’s disappeared and only a handful remain. Hayden Christensen (Jumper), Thandie Newton (Crash), and John Leguizamo (E.R.) fight to survive the darkness with light—literally. I kid you not. Expected U.S. release date: February 2011

Rising star Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) discovers a drug that unleashes his brain’s full potential in Limitless. But Robert De Niro (Taxi Driver) won’t let him get off that easy. Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies) and Abbie Cornish (Bright Star) co-star. Expected U.S. release date: March 18, 2011

One of the fastest ways to get me curious about a movie is if it’s a reworking of a fairy tale. Beastly is Beauty and the Beast set in modern times, specifically in a high school. Newcomer Alex Pettyfer is a cocky guy who is cursed with ugliness by a witch, Mary-Kate Olsen (Squee! Perfect casting, in my opinion; no sarcasm here). Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical) acts as the modern-day Belle. Expected U.S. release date: March 18, 2011

Killing Bono is a quirky British film about a small-time band who is thwarted at every turn by U2. With their chance at success shot to hell, the kids plot to murder Bono. Ben Barnes (Chronicles of Narnia) stars. Expected UK release date: April 1, 2011

Director Kevin Smith (Clerks) throws us off with a horror film, Red State, which depicts religious fanatics. Not a bad cast though: John Goodman (Monsters, Inc.), Michael Angarano (Speak), and Oscar-nominee, Melissa Leo (Frozen River). Expected U.S. release date: March 2011

Director Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s 11) brings us the documentary, And Everything is Going Fine. It’s his tribute to the late Spalding Gray, monologue extraordinaire. Expected U.S. release date: unknown

Another trailer for The Fighter has been released. The sneak peek of the boxing drama is still kind of mediocre, but the actors are gaining traction this coming awards season, which makes me want to see it. Mark Wahlberg (Max Payne), Christian Bale (The Dark Knight), Amy Adams (Junebug), and Leo (Conviction) are all garnering nominations. In theaters now.

The Beaver is an upcoming dramedy with Mel Gibson (The Patriot) as the leading man. Gibson is trying to get his life on track by using a beaver puppet. Jodie Foster (The Brave One) works with him on and off camera as the director. It also stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Oscar nominee shoo-in Jennifer Lawrence. Expected U.S. release date: April 8, 2011

Cedar Rapids looks like it’s good for laughs. The comedy stars the following actors as insurance agents: Ed Helms (The Hangover), John C. Reilly (Cyrus), and Anne Heche (Men in Trees). Expected U.S. release date: unknown

Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides finds Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp, Blow) on the hunt for the fountain of youth. Penelope Cruz (Volver) and Geoffrey Rush (The Banger Sisters) are in the same boat. Expected U.S. release date: May 20, 2011

Depp’s been keeping busy. He also has an animated film coming out called, Rango. Isla Fischer (Confessions of a Shopaholic) and Timothy Olyphant (Catch and Release) lend their voices. Expected U.S. release date: March 4, 2011

Take Me Home Tonight is like that other high school movie, Can’t Hardly Wait—but in the ’80s. Topher Grace (That ’70s Show) pursues the girl of his dreams, Teresa Palmer (The Sorceror’s Apprentice). Meanwhile, Michelle Tratchenberg (17 Again) and real-life couple, Chris Pratt (Everwood) and Anna Faris (House Bunny), deal with impending adulthood. Expected U.S. release date: March 4, 2011

By the looks of the trailer, Jane Eyre takes on the eerie tone of the Charlotte Bronte novel. Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) plays the beloved heroine while Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) is the man she falls for. Jamie Bell (Jumper) and Judi Dench (Die Another Day) round out the cast. Expected U.S. release date: March 11, 2011

Who would have thought Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) is an action star? In Hanna, she’s an assassin trained by her own father (Eric Bana from Troy). After her kill order fails, she has to go on the run from people like Cate Blanchett (Babel). There’s a pretty big reveal in the trailer, but hopefully, the actual film has more plot twists in store for us. Director: Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice). Expected U.S. release date: April 8, 2011

Rio, an animated movie, follows a macaw who can’t fly (Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network) as he goes on an adventure with the opposite sex (Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married). Flocking together with the 2011 Oscar nominees-to-be are Leslie Mann (17 Again), talk show host George Lopez, Jamie Foxx (Ray) and Rodrigo Santoro (Love Actually), who sadly, does not take his shirt off in this one. Check out the funny trailer below. Expected U.S. release date: April 15, 2011

I am Number Four is an adaptation of part 1 in a six-part series of young adult sci-fi novels. Pettyfer is one of nine aliens who come to our planet but are being killed off one by one. They can only die in sequence and Pettyfer, number four, is up next. Dianna Agron plays his love interest and Olyphant and Palmer play his guardian and number six, respectively. The special effects alone are worth watching. Below are the second trailer and an extended look at the movie. Expected U.S. release date: Feb. 18, 2011

Thor, based on a comic book, revolves around a stubborn god of the same name (Australian import Chris Hemsworth).
