A propos de la communication virtuelle, je commence  à y penser davantage  depuis que je suis venue à Saint-Etienne. Cela a été et demeure le seul outil pour le contact avec mes relations. Cela donne à penser  sur ce qui est important dans le dialogue avec les gens. Internet facilite la communication et fournit des occasions de communiquer avec des gens qui seraient autrement inaccessibles. Mais est-ce que sur Internet la personne ne disparaît-elle pas ? Internet permet la création et le changement de son identité, et d’adopter des identités multiples.

La communication virtuelle a beaucoup d’avantages. Premièrement, la vitesse d’échange des informations. Mais c’est aussi, à mon avis, l’une des principales raisons de la rapidité du mode de vie moderne, ce qui conduira à un grand stress. L’esprit des gens est quelque peu faussé, ils n’ont pas de temps pour s’arrêter, regarder ce qui se passe autour et en général, pourquoi ils sont dans un état de si grand stress. 
La culture lettone n’est pas caractérisée par  le toucher. Donc, en principe, il est possible d’être satisfait seulement avec quelques lettres et appels Skype. Peut-être que la chose est que les gens conservent encore une sorte d’instinct, et ils ont la nécessité d’embrasser  ou de toucher l’épaule. C’est une autre question. A l’école, je l’ai déjà appris : les scientifiques ont calculé que chaque personne a besoin de 24 caresses par jour pour maintenir l’estime de soi, se sentir aimé et être en bonne santé.
Peut-être qu’après des années, les personnes et la technologie évolueront de sorte qu’il sera possible de déterminer le sentiment précis sans contact physique. Je ne sais pas s’il faut protester contre ce développement, à la fin, toutes ces choses en voie de développement sont relativement naturelles. Un retour à l’âge de pierre ? Serait-ce une bonne solution ? Je sens déjà que cela n’est pas ma volonté. Donc soyez d’accord avec le meurtrier de la communication organique. Et étreignez quelqu’un.

Air France’s touch on Saint Etienne’s Spring brings a little up tempo to a classic. There is a real soft soul/funk vibe coming through in this track that I’m loving.  Saint Etienne consist of Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley, and Pete Wiggs. All of which come together to produce some interesting alternative electronica. They have a lot of great stuff online. Follow up if you want to hear something else good.

Air France on the other hand have hit my library a number of times. I really enjoy what they do to this track. If you’re new to AF definitely look into their rendition of Friendly Fires Skeleton Boy. It’s absolutely fantastic!

Già perché anche se non sembra dietro ogni elezione di ogni compare sono volati insulti, beghe da condominio fino a oggi, quando io e la bradipina senza battere ciglio abbiamo deciso di eleggere a compare l’attore francese Pio Marmaï. Nato a Strasburgo il 13 luglio del 1984, per diventare attore ha seguito vari corsi anche in Italia (anzi utente della rete, tu che forse hai mangiato una piadina con il nostro Pio, sappi che questo post è anche per te)  e il conservatorio di Créteil e poi ha concluso il tutto alla Scuola d’arte drammatica di Saint-Étienne, come dire in Francia non è così semplice diventare attore come nel nostro paesello… Del genere se un Luca Argentero qualunque solo con una presenza nella casa del Grande Fratello diventa attore, in Francia la situazione è ben diversa. Ma torniamo al nostro Pio, fra un film e l’altro ha anche il tempo di fondare con un gruppo di amici una compagnia teatrale dal nome altisonante Quincaillerie Moderne, come a dire soprammobile moderno… una sorta di gattino giapponese che abbassa la mano. Nel sito potete anche trovare l’email del bell’uomo, ma vi lasciamo fare le Miriam Tomponzi di turno. Recita in qualche pièce teatrale e poi al cinema in Didine fino a quando non entra a far parte del cast di uno dei maggiori film della scorsa stagione cinematografica francese: Le premier jour du reste de ta vie, dove il nostro Pio convola a nozze con immancabile vestito bianco kitsch, film che gli è valso anche la nomination a miglior attore rivelazione al César, il premio gli è l’ha soffiato il “fratello” Raph. Dopo questo film se è possibile si fa amare ancora di più e sposa la legge che amiamo di più. E per farsi amare ancora di più recita in una serie dedicata agli anni ‘80! Il popolo di faccialibro ha già la risposta ai nostri patemi: il mitico gruppo “Pio Marmaï, will you marry me?”. Fra gli iscritti manco a dirlo c’è proprio lui! Education is an important asset for any young people and all elements or details that referring to such an important issue should be analyzed carefully.  Design is one of these elements and both French designers François Mangeol and Sophie Françon seem to know that very well as their latest project not only reflects the philosophy of harmony and beauty but it is also functional helping this way the students to feel comfortable in their school classes.

En octobre 2008, la Maison Martin Margiela a fêté ses 20 ans d’existence. A cette occasion, l’Antwerp Fashion Museum présente une exposition spéciale, Maison Martin Margiela (20)-The Exhibition. L’exposition a été ouverte jusqu’en février 2009 et après elle a été transférée à Munich  Haus der Kunst jusqu’en juin.

Martin Margiela a terminé ses études à l’Antwerp Academy, dans la section mode, en 1988. Il a travaillé comme assistant de Jean Paul Gaultier. Avec Jenny Meirens, il a fondé la Maison Martin Margiela et le premier défilé a eu lieu la même année en octobre. Dès le début, Martin Margiela a voulu laisser la mode parler par elle-même. Toutes les interviews sont données sous le nom de la Maison mais il n’est jamais apparu dans des photos ou aux défilés, son identité restant encore inconnue. La Maison Martin Margiela est connue pour son approche déconstructiviste et pour l’usage des matériaux (tissus) de seconde main.

Maison Martin Margiela 20 n’est pas une rétrospective classique mais elle approche les thèmes Margiela, en incluant des images de défilés, créations, croquis des vitrines et des magasins, ainsi que les règles de communication si atypiques de la Maison Margiela. Exclusivement pour cette exposition, Martin Margiela vient avec des créations en édition limitée qui ont été en vente pendant la durée de l’exposition, à la réception du musée, dans un espace spécialement dédié. Pour les amateurs, on peut voir une création de la Maison Martin Margiela aussi à Saint Etienne au Musée d’Art et Industrie – une veste faite seulement en bandes élastiques.

Hot Chip have a new track out before the release of their new album, One Life Stand, next February. “Take It In” is the tenth and last track. The group has been busy since the release of Coming on Strong in 2004, although I’m surprised that they haven’t as of yet collaborated with a hip-hop group. They seem to work on new tracks without a break: I saw them play “Over and Over” live in early 2005; it wasn’t released as a single until later that year and was eventually included on The Warning in May 2006.

The new song is poppier than Hot Chip’s singles, with a well-defined, stellar chorus. The major chord that opens the song immediately submits to a stuttering beat and menacing bass and synth lines. The feeling of uncertainty that pervades the verses pivots suddenly, giving way to a sweet, uplifting chorus featuring a languorous vocal and piano line expertly balanced by the restlessness of the electric guitar. Lyrics are one of the factors that elevate Hot Chip over lesser electro-pop bands of the decade: here, the earnest, slightly-heartbroken words bear the signature of Alexis Taylor. “Surgery took place in the half-life / By then I was no more than a phantom” is accompanied by a horror-movie like harmony in the background. This contrasts to the plaintive words of the chorus, sung dolce - “My heart has flown to you just like a dove / It can fly / Please take my heart and keep it close to you / Take it in”.

Taylor is quoted in NME as stating that the new album is more mid-tempo, more disco-influenced. Regardless of its influences, here’s to hoping all ten tracks sustain this level of quality.

Recently, I’ve also spent some time with Saint Etienne’s Smash the System (2001), a collection of the group’s singles from the 90’s. Saint Etienne is comprised of lead singer Sarah Cracknell and two former music journalists, Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs. The group’s sound shifts from album to album; some fans claim that it is simply a sonic distillation of London – indeed, many of their songs (the ones that aren’t covers) include references to the city, and their recent retrospective album is titled London Conversations.

“He’s on the Phone” (1995) remains one of their most commercially successful singles. The song has a complicated pedigree: it is a remix of the song “Accident” by Motiv8, which previously appeared on a Saint Etienne/Etienne Daho EP. “Accident” is based on the French hit single “Weekend à Rome” by Daho, a French songwriter who is also the voice behind the spoken lyrics in the middle of “He’s on the Phone”.

The song is about an “academia girl” and her attempt to escape an affair with a married man. The London reference is terse: “Got the cash / Feeling flash / In Leicester Square”; the band needs only eight words to capture the excitement of the forbidden and the thrill of making an impression. The track serves up all the guilty pleasures of a eurodance track without the awful lyrics or over-the-top electronic flourishes. It begins with a lilting, descending piano line and Cracknell’s smooth cooing, which are soon interrupted by a propulsive beat and bass line and pulsing synth chords. These four elements, appearing in many a dance track, combine to form the euphoric chorus, augmented by a stroke of musical genius: Cracknell’s anthemic “Yes / Ooh-ooh.”

Saint Etienne are in the process of releasing remastered versions of their studio albums, beginning with Foxbase Alpha from 1991. They’ve also expressed an interest in writing the theme song for the 2012 London Olympics. I can’t think of a more fitting musical act to represent the city, or of a better opportunity for the band to be introduced to the wider audience it deserves.

Ascending the Worlds Longest And Tallest Escalator, we spot a spot a window with a large poster taped to the glass, declaring, ‘We buy + sell LPs’.  Dashing down the steps at the first possible exit from the conveyer, we stumble into the shabby terraced building inwhich lies a stairwell to the shop.

On the fourth floor, we push open the door and set aside the bead curtain, and stumble across a solitary box shaped room, holding a desk and thousands of records, CDs and DVD stacked in various piles and spilling from cardboard boxes.

The small owner of the room is friendly, and has sprinkled the apartment with enough of his belongings to suggest that its not only his shop, but his home.  Incense hangs thickly in the air, and a contemporary jazz compilation blares from the speakers near the desk with the cash register.

“He probably just gets out a sleeping bag and sleeps in here” Maddi whispers to me, and I can’t help but agree.

We flick through the offerings of CDs, which consist mostly of humdrum rock releases from the likes of U2 and Muse, that leave me uninspired. However a small shelf, labelled ‘electronica’, offers a more interesting, eceltric mixture. We discover Saint Etienne’s Too Young To Die (which compiles the band’s first leg of music producing), recordings of Fatboy Slim’s Beach Boutiques from 2002 and 2003, and Aphex Twin’s double album Drukgs (which, coincenditally, is his last LP to date and an album I long for, but haven’t seen for a price I can justify).

However, it is the disaryed collection of vinyl that ticks the boxes; a big cardboard container of mixed genres priced at $15HK each (just over a £1) lies at the bottom of a dusty shelf.  One of crates seems to consist solely of US house and hip-hop, offering some old school records at a decent price. Elsewhere, stumbling across a remix EP of Underworld’s Cowgirl and Santos’ 2001 classic Camels, I decide to wake up the owner and splash out.

After-all, its not every day you can enter someone’s apartment, root through their record collection and come away with a few gems, without breaking the bank or the law.

Redan i september släppte indievärldens kelgrisar med det långa men ack så vackra namnet The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart (vedertaget TPOBAH) den första versionen av Higher than the stars på Slumberland. Men det var inte nog där; den finns i hela fyra olika utgåvor, även om vi fortfarande väntar på den fjärde. En 7″ med en remix av titelspåret på B-sidan, en 12″ med fyra låtar, en CDEP med fem låtar inkluderat en remix av Saint Etienne som även finns på en kommande remix-tolva (tre låtar). För den som inte vill slanta upp för alla fyra utgåvorna gäller det alltså att tänka till hur man ska välja för att få ut så mycket som möjligt. Mp3 av titelspåret samt en remix finns på Slumberland, och vi har även hittat remixen av de legendariska britterna!

NYC-based indie-pop quartet The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart released one of the early contenders for album of 2009 in the shape of their self-titled debut back in February, and followed that up in September with the swoon-worthy EP Higher Than The Stars containing four new songs and four remixes, one of which was this retooling by UK pop legends Saint Etienne. The Pains’ keyboardist / vocalist Peggy Wang-East has become something of an indie pin-up in the process, but aside from being a rad and very pretty musician, she’s also a blogger for the viral real-time site Buzzfeed, a role she meets in tandem with the band. Her vocals were all too often buried in the mix on the album, deferring slightly to the dreamy tones of frontman Kip Berman, but this remix puts them on equal pegging. While the identity of the mysterious Lord Spank is never quite explained, the Saint Etienne tag is all you need to know to get a sense of this track’s dreamy, dance-pop quality. MP3 after the jump.

Este edificio para la Cité du Design de Saint Etienne no es característicamente francés, alemán o italiano, más bien todo lo contrario. No es de ningún sitio y de todos a la vez, aunque en esta ocasión eso sea algo positivo. Rotundidad estructural, flexibilidad funcional y claridad constructiva son algunas virtudes de esta obra de LIN, un estudio dividido entre  la arquitectura y el urbanismo, con medio pie en París y otro medio en Berlín, y por si fuera poco formado por un alemán y una francesa italiana. Recordaba entonces aquello de que la unión hace la fuerza mientras observaba al mismo tiempo el izado de la torre de esta ciudad del diseño… “erasmus”.

If you know Chef you’ll know I love the Etienne, so I was excited to find that Foxbase Alpha, their debut, has been re-produced by Richard X to become Foxbase Beta. I got a copy at their Shepherds Bush show, along with a great black and white tee with the original Alpha text on it – they’re on their shop.

Beta starts with a taxi ride to 1990 that goes via the classic Only Love Can Break Your Heart, complete with a new bass that shivers like a forlorn teenager at a bus stop. Soon after, Carnt Sleep is hauntingly orchestral and builds into an epic, before She’s The One and Girl VII bring the rave side of the album out, treating us to an unforgettable roll call, on VII, of London places and global destinations – ‘Sao Paulo, Boston Manor, Costa Rica, Arnos Grove’.

Later, Spring and Nothing Can Stop Us Now go from optimistic to delerious and then the triumph that is Like The Swallow materialises. With a space age build up and choir singing over a marching beat, there’s something about it that reminds me of the digital feel of the Eagle video by Abba. It swirls into an electronic odyssey then disappears as quickly as it started. Magical. Chef’s Kiss!

Bafetimbi Gomis’ late strike against his former club gave Lyon bragging rights again as they defeated derby rivals St Etienne.

The result saw Lyon climb to second in Ligue 1, two points behind leaders Bordeaux, while St Etienne remain in trouble and still looking for their first derby victory in 15 years.

The visitors were quickest out of the blocks and came within inches of taking a 15th-minute lead when Lisandro Lopez hit the post with a fierce shot.

St Etienne, who were missing swine flu victim Ilan, mounted a decent attack of their own five minutes later but Gonzalo Ruben Bergessio’s volley was kept out by Hugo Lloris.

At the other end Miralem Pjanic drew a good low save out of Jeremie Janot but Lyon were nearly behind on the hour mark as a grateful Lloris watched Bergessio’s effort smack the crossbar before gathering the ball.

The Argentinian was proving a handful for the OL defence and he brought the best out of Lloris shortly after with a firm header.

It was Lyon who began the second half better, with Pjanic again testing Janot from 20 yards, while Sidney Govou headed Aly Cissokho’s cross just over.

Dimitri Payet fired in a decent effort for the hosts but Lyon were firmly on top by now, with Lisandro the main dangerman.

The Argentinian hit the bar for the second time on the hour mark, this time via a superb save from Janot, while Jean Makoun was also denied by the keeper.

Gomis served notice of his threat with 11 minutes remaining when he seized on a mistake from Guirane N’Daw before firing over the bar.

And four minutes later he made no mistake, although Janot played a significant part in the decisive goal.

Kim Kallstrom’s corner found the keeper struggling at the far post and he could only push the ball out to the grateful Gomis.

La griffe de la panthère ! Au terme d’un match haletant et engagé, l’OL s’est imposé à Saint-Etienne (0-1), samedi soir, lors de la 12e journée de Ligue 1. Malgré de nombreuses opportunités pour les Verts, dont une barre de Bergessio (29e), les Gones ont remporté le derby grâce à l’élu local: Bafétimbi Gomis, auteur du seul but de la rencontre (81e). Une préparation idéale pour les Rhodaniens avant la réception de Liverpool, mercredi en Ligue des Champions, et celle de Marseille, dimanche, en Ligue 1. Un succès qui permet à Lyon de reprendre la place de dauphin à Monaco, à deux points de Bordeaux.

Malmené à la pause, l’OL retrouve du poil de la bête au retour des vestiaires. Les Gones mettent d’entrée la pression et sur un dégagement lointain de Lloris, Lisandro dévie pour Pjanic qui trouve encore les gants de Janot (46e). L’OL retrouve petit à petit de l’orgueil, à l’image de cette tête de Govou juste à côté de la cage stéphanoise (50e). Et les offensives se poursuivent pour les Rhodaniens et pour Lisandro, qui touche à nouveau du bois, seul face à Janot (60e).

Inefficace et malheureux, l’attaquant de l’Albiceleste est remplacé par Bafétimbi Gomis, sous les huées de Geoffroy-Guichard (72e). Et il ne faut pas beaucoup de temps à l’ancien Stéphanois pour se mettre en action. Sur un corner de Kim Källström, entré en jeu au même moment que l’attaquant, Jérémie Janot se troue et laisse l’opportunité à Bafé Gomis de pousser au fond des filets (82e, 0-1). Le score ne bougera plus pour une équipe de l’OL qui renoue avec le succès après deux défaites consécutives. Du coup, les Gones repassent devant Monaco, au second rang, à deux points de Bordeaux. Surtout, les partenaires de Toulalan préparent au mieux les réceptions de Liverpool, mercredi, et Marseille, dimanche.
