Organizations from across Los Angeles descended upon City Hall demanding that policy makers respect their human right to adequate housing.

In a gathering that was truly reflective of multi-cultural L.A. residents took to the streets on the International Day of Human Rights. Members from KIWA, SAN, LA CAN, Union de Vecinos, Comunidad Presente, CES, Esperanza Housing, SAJE, Coalition LA, and Homeless Healthcare took to the street to highlight domestic human rights violations.

The action comes on the heels of a recent United Nations mission investigating housing conditions in the United States. While in Los Angeles Raquel Rolnik, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, stated that she indeed saw human rights violations in our city. The United Nations will release findings in March 2010 in their official report. Stay tuned because there will be many more activities in the months before the release.

Comme je coordonne un programme qui vise à former et accompagner les acquéreurs d’entreprise (le programme Succès Relève), je me retrouve à m’informer sur le marché et ce domaine de l’économie et donc à lire beaucoup d’articles sur la relève entrepreneuriale, l’acquisition d’entreprise, la reprise, le transfert, …vous aurez compris…

J’ai remarqué que dans les articles français, dès qu’il y a un événement quelconque (un salon, un nouveau site web, un colloque, une aide financière, bref, une actualité…) le titre de l’article, ou de l’événement, contient toujours (dans 80% ou 90% des cas) les notions de démarrage ET d’acquisition. Par exemple, il s’agit du “salon du démarrage et de la reprise d’entreprise”, ou bien encore le “concours en démarrage et reprise d’entreprise de telle région”…

Malheureusement, l’angle d’attaque des articles de journaux québécois est différent… il est beaucoup question de démarrage, mais encore trop rarement d’acquisition. Or entre 100 000 et 200 000 entreprises seront à vendre dans les 10 prochaines années, ce qui représente entre 500 000 et 1 million d’emplois en jeu (en prenant une moyenne de 5 employés par entreprise). Il faut aussi savoir qu’un démarrage crée deux emplois en moyenne alors qu’une reprise en conserverait cinq. Faites le calcul, pour 2 entreprises qui ferment, il faut créer 5 entreprises…

Tout cela pour dire qu’à mon sens, conscient que la sensibilisation ne se fera pas en claquant des doigts, il faudrait commencer par changer les titres ! Me semble que le type d’organisme dans lequel je travail a un rôle à jouer, de même que les journalistes qui répercute l’information. À force de voir les deux options associées, les futurs entrepreneurs vont peut être commencer à entrevoir l’acquisition comme une manière d’entreprendre à leur portée.

Ainsi, fini le concours en démarrage, bienvenu le concours en démarrage et achat d’entreprise.

Je propose donc d’unir comme mari et femme le démarrage et l’acquisition d’entreprise !

ok…nak continue. where was i? anyway, let’s cut the story short lah. Basically I really had fun during the conversation take place. Haih, mmg tuhan nak menguji iman. tgh aku camtu, ditemukan plak aku dgn org yg kira ada la ciri2 idaman. So, on that day, we exchanged e-mail id instead of phone number. takpe..email dulu. time tu pun aku tgh ada relationship, so takleh nak excited sgt. but deep in heart, I miss the ‘fun’ that I had which I couldnt get with my ex. hmm…

So, hari bersilih ganti, we chat over YM. and yeah, finally nombor telefon pun bertukar. It was nothing about being flirtatious, but in a different way, kira yg lebih sopan camtu la. Heheh…pernah skali tu, duk janji nak jumpa kat fac coz nak pass assignment pak arab ni nak hantarkan, skali tu dia tak muncul, my ex ni yg muncul. Pergghhh!! Kechot perott. tp, sbb study punya pasal, takde apa yg nak diworrykan sgt.

Anyway, this guy ada gak try ajak aku kuar. but since, aku ni jahat2 mana pun still cuba nak setia, aku ngelak dari masalah. so most of the plan he made aku akan cancel last minute smp dia pun naik bengang and this arab guy went off in silence. Well, its kinda sad, but its ok.

Day by day… so many things happened. Aku break off dgn this ex. And entah macamana this arab guy suddenly appear after berbulan2 menyepi. Wow! Aku rasa sgt happy (i dunno why) so I asked him out coz dah byk kali kensel all these while. This time, I will go out for a drink with him as a single girl, and no need to bother about the hassels of someone being jealous or whatever not.

YAHOO!!

His brain, wow. his sense of humor…oh god! his stares…oh dear… i just fall head over heals on him.

it was fun… i do think im in love again. but… have to be careful. it might be a false alarm. Tah2 aku ni saja desperate sbb apa yg dah jadi, culture shock, and last but not least, a test. Indeed, it is a test. Masuk time ramadhan, he asked me for buka puasa once. And we had a long chat till 10pm. During the talk, dia ada ckp pasal plan dia nak kawin. and from that moment..i know, i was just perasan with my own perasaan. Yang aku tak terkejut, dia confess dia dah couple dgn minah local 2 times. and now his dad ada plan for him. so he will end his working contract this end of year and graduate and maybe go back to his country. Anyway, he’s arab+pakistan (oh my god, its perfect!)

Its ok. as long as i have great memories and he made me smile alone and make my heart jolt! even still coping with the break up but I can bet, this feeling that i had even just for a couple of weeks, could not beat the happiness that I had with the ex for 2 years plus!!! CAN U IMAGINE?? mmg bukan love la aku dgn mangkuk tu dulu. it was just…go with the flow…and WHATEVERR!!

it’s like 1 full mug of coffee = couple of table spoon of espresso. The quantity does not count, but the feeling does!!

Although I know I was just perasan, at least, I will keep it to myself and will not let him know. I wish I could thank him for the memories he gave. Who can imagine? someone that i never realized exist at my campus, suddenly show up and make me wonder…wow..and where were you all these while?

Forgive me Allah. Jgn biarkan aku terleka dan alpa. I need Your guide always. Save me Allah. Bring me the best. Ameenn…

p/s: tapi tu la kan..time kita suka org, sure org tu tak berapa dgn kita. but if kita tak suka org tu, org tu laa yg gila kat kita. sigh…its complicated. anyway…memories remain. it’s better to have love and lost kan? sapa sgt la aku ni punn… tgk cermin sindri crita laaa..

Right now, I’m still waiting.. half-patiently, to be honest.. to meet our beautiful child.. insyaAllah.. I’m already in the ‘overdue’ category now (40 weeks & 4 days). Tapi, sesungguhnya Allah adalah sebaik-baik perancang..

Btw, I’m so grateful.. to be surrounded by very caring friends.. eventhough I’m far apart from my family, I don’t feel lonely.. the support is always there. Alhamdulillah. Thanks to Kak Suhaili, Kak Farizah, Kak Rohana, Wan.. and more names which I don’t mention here but doesn’t mean you’re forgotten. InsyaAllah your good deeds will be blessed by Allah.

Just pray that everything will be okay for both baby & myself. Amiin..

Ahlan wasahlan ya Ramadhan..

Alhamdulillah we’re now in the third day of Ramadhan. Alhamdulillah I’ve been gifted with health and strength by Allah to go through the days in my pregnancy, although yesterday was a testing one for me.

I’d like to post some knowledge which I acquired during the usrah session yesterday morning regarding Ramadhan, but it won’t be now. Maybe in my next post.

However, I just want to list down the menu we have for iftar throughout Ramadhan, as a reminder for myself to be moderate, as what Ramadhan is all about. I hope I can do like Ibu, never have too much for iftar. Just the same thing as we always have on the other months.

Day 1: Bubur asyura

Day 2: Asam pedas ayam, kobis goreng, popiah daging

Day 3: Invitation by Kak Mashitoh & family – nasi kerabu (thanks a lot, kak Mashitoh!)

Day 4: Fried chicken leftover from Kak Mashitah’s (I added sambal), bening bayam, vadai

Day 5: Bihun soup

Day 6: Sardin (hehe..), vege soup, telur dadar, cucur lemak manis

Day 7: Ayam & hati ayam msk kicap, sambal terung

Day 8: Wholemeal bread (homemade!) and kuah dalca  *so proud the bread ‘menjadi’ although the crust was slightly hard, good enough for first attempt.

Day 9: Yesterday’s leftovers, ada nasi jugak, cucur udang

Day 10: Pasta goreng, cucur udang

Day 11: Pasta goreng (smlm, hehe..), popiah goreng

Day 12: Ikan tamban goreng + sambal tumis, sayur campur

Day 13: Invitation from Kak Farizah & family (many thanks, kak!)

Day 14: Kak Farizah’s leftovers (Ayam percik, sup sayur)

Day 15: Pizza, garlic bread

Day 16: Ayam masak lemak cili api, terung goreng belacan, cucur udang

Day 17: Bihun hailam

Day 18: baked potato, fried haddock, salad (Ibu’s already here! )

Day 19: Kari daging, kobis goreng

Day 20: Ayam goreng, sambal tempe ikan bilis, steamed veges

Day 21: Sup ikan, sayur goreng

Swine flu.. H1N1.. selsema babi.. whatever name you call it, it’s the same thing..

Nowadays I’m kinda more worried. On the news they’ve been pressing the matter more on the concern of expecting mothers~ how vulnerable we are to this contagious disease. The other day, the scientist@technician in the lab (probably) had contracted the disease and he came to work anyway.. (!!??) And coincidentally, (UNFORTUNATELY) I was working in the lab that day! Alhamdulillah, so far I’m being well, still. InsyaAllah nothing bad would happen to both my baby & I.

Just wanna share a doa, emailed by a friend, Kak Zue, the other day.. for safety against the flu (or any other threatening disease).. the original posting was by Dato’Hj Mohd Murtadza, Mufti of Negeri Sembilan.

Yesterday was quite a hectic day for both of us. We did nothing much actually. Early morning went to carboot sale in Colwick. Alhamdulillah, managed to find a moses basket rocking stand.. costs £5.50! (is it cheap or expensive? I’m not so sure).

Anyway, last night, the TMF & 4 Music channels theme was something like ‘the 90s’.. and guess what? I got to catch 3 Spice Girls old video clips, haha.. I was a big fan of them during my school days.. until I graduated my 1st degree, I think.. huh, yelah tu.. after I got married, I requested their special edition cd for my birthday from Sayang, LOL! But to be truth, my interest in them faded bit by bit as I aged. To prove this statement, last night when their concert Live in Wembley was shown on TMF, I dozed off in the middle of it!haha.. and didn’t bother to watch SG in America afterwards. btw, I really like Mel C during that era..compared to how she is now. Alah, even now I don’t really follow her music.. or even any others. Not religiously.. ish, terasa betul dah berusia. Wiser, maybe Now my inclination has changed towards housework.. i.e. cooking, decorating the house.. Almaklumla, dah jadi bini orang kot..

Yes, the moment you put something in writing it becomes official, true, almost set in stone. It also gives a clearer direction of though. This is exactly what is happening now – I am creating a blue print of my company – a written direction, path for success – in other words a business plan. Something that every entrepreneurial book is preaching – you must write a business plan! True that MUST applies to it when the business plan is a selling document for capital acquisitions. For banks, venture capitalists, organisations… But what about if you have that capital, you do not need to go to the bank, venture capitalist,  or organization?  Well, it is still a very important document as it is the only one that actually puts in order all the thoughts each entrepreneur has in his/her mind and builds in into an entity. I think it is crucial to do it. I am already seeing aspects of my plan that I have to think through more thoroughly. Bits and pieces are missing that the business plan “will catch” in no time.

So the skeleton is there. It is called Business Proposal and I had to do it for SAJE. Thanks Cyril Chaib from Wiseleap for the tip – great program!

Amanda reached out and touched his wing. Soft, downy feathers spread through her fingertips, like a bird’s appendage. The pale skin of her fingers looked darker against their light, grayish-green coloring. She envisioned him soaring through the air, the wind sailing through each feather, separating the layers. Her anger slowed to a simmer. “What is your name?”

“Saje.”

“Like the spice,” she replied.

“Yes.”

His voice deepened, forcing her to look up. His ice-gray eyes had darkened to the point of slate. His features were fierce, breathtaking and inflamed. Gone was all semblance of play.

She swallowed. “My name…”

“Is Amanda M. Birchfield. It is written on the inner sleeve of a book over there.” He nodded to a pile of leather-bounds lying on her coffee table, but at the moment, all she could think about was his lips. They appeared full and inviting. She wished to taste them and nip them between her teeth.

As if reading her mind, Saje bent his head as she rose to her tiptoes. His mouth first brushed her lips, then captured her in a full kiss. All male and with tantalizing aggression, he parted the seam of her mouth with his tongue. Amanda was lost. No kiss ever tasted so thrilling. Hot. Wet. It was fire, meadow, earth and sage all rolled into one erotic delicacy.

Christmas and New Year holidays are finally here!

How I’m so relieved.. it’s been a while since we had a long (quite long, 2 weeks eh..) break.. furthermore few weeks before the hols I’d been having long days.. experiments began in the morning and with short break for lunch ( which I only managed to go to perform my prayer and had lunch after the office hour was over) and ended late in the evenings, this hols are the great conclusion to that. But it doesn’t mean that my work has completed.. I still have data to analyse, literatures to read and essays to write.. the work is neverending until I complete my PhD.. insyaAllah I will finish it in three years time.. can’t wait to be back in Malaysia and be close to my family..

Anyway, both my husband and I are looking for some interesting places to go this holidays.. earlier we didn’t really bother to go anyway cos I thought of ‘doing’ my work during this period. But, to think back, this is the time to take a really good break.. as we never know when is the nest time we could get this break before next year’s christmas.. huhu.. kinda regret it that we didn’t plan it properly earlier.. but, maybe it’s a blessing in disguise.. the tv is showing plenty of great movies over this holiday. Maybe we would just stuck in front of the tv all day and night.. hahaha..

Just think.. of places.. and decide.. that’s what I need to do.. (need, huh?!)

This is week is crazy. On top of 8-hour recording sessions for the Pretty Buoyant Society project with Drizzle, who’s in town specifically for the aforementioned activity, I have 3 gigs on Saturday! Too bad one of them isn’t djing the Pacquiao-De La Hoya fight…

OCTOBER 12th, 2008-SOUTH LOS ANGELES

            As news of the Dow Jones sharp declines dominate headlines, hundreds of determined social service providers in LA’s hardest hit community have dedicated themselves to fight for a place at the table.   “We have a high density population in South LA whose suffering has been going on for generations,” declared the CEO of 11 public health clinics in the region.   “Homelessness is rising at an alarming rate among people who just can’t afford the increases in their rent.  Housing is inadequate and dangerous with lead paint, mold, rodent and cockroach infestations that undermine the health of children and families.   There isn’t enough housing.  And, law enforcement is so misguided that poor and homeless people are criminalized and plucked from their communities simply because they have fallen through all safety nets.”

            Jim Mangia was joined by Dr. Rishi Manchanda, coordinator of the South LA Homelessness Prevention and Intervention Collaborative, Gilda Hass, Executive Director, Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE), Nancy Halpern Ibrahim, MPH, Executive Director Esperanza Community Housing Corporation, Pete White, Executive Director of Los Angeles Community Action Network (LA CAN), for a Town Hall Meeting addressing the Crisis on Main Street.  

Dr. Rishi Manchanda has authored and released a white paper, “Taming the Perfect Storm”, http://hhrjournal.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/taming-the-perfect-storm.pdf now on the Harvard website, which was given out to community leaders today during the provocative call to action which underscored the important town hall meeting.

“The collaborative relationship between these social service agencies offers leadership for “Taming the Perfect Storm” which threatens the health and welfare of hundreds of thousands of people in South LA,” Dr. Manchanda declared.    “Anyone who cares about the future of this great city must read, “Taming the Perfect Storm” and become involved in finding solutions which is the mission of this leadership collaborative.

it’s been almost half a year now! i mean, since i last update my blog.. ish..ish..

nway, now i’m already enrolled in the univ..pursuing my PhD..alhamdulillah.. hopefully everything goes well for me.. insyaAllah..

I even didn’t checked my message..only today I realized Nabil had sent me a message in Sept..and the thing he asked is not relevant anymore..hehe.. so sorry, Nabil..

Well, guess I’m gonna update the things that had occurred..one of which gonna answer Nabil’s question..

Welcome new month! Can’t really believe it that I am now in the 8th month of the year..felt like I just celebrated my bday (which was in Jan).. anyway, I’m going to post some recipes from the book I’m currently trying to finish.. borrowed it from a promoter at my workplace.. if you guys wanna know, I’m considering to detox myself ..hehe.. that’s why the title of the book that I’m reading is ‘DETOX’..

well, I think I just wanna post one recipe first.. may add more later..or not! hehe… good luck for myself!

“panglima Itam!! panglima!, hamba ada figure out laluan sulit ke dalam kota”. Termengah2 Sang Merah berlari ke arah panglima Itam sambil menutur kata. Panglima Itam yg sedang berehat segera bangun, “bagus Sang Merah. Hari ini juga akan cuba kita tawan kota ini. Hamba juga risaukan keadaan tuan puteri di dalam kota. Entah bagaimana keadaannya… lukakah dia? diberi makankah dia? sihatkah dia? lenakah tidurnya?..” kata Panglima Itam dengan machonya… Wahai tuan puteri, bersabarlah… akan patik cuba sedaya upaya untuk menembusi benteng kota ini.. walau betapa lama pun patik mencuba.. demi tuan puteri, takkan patik berputus asa… Fikir Panglima Itam yang keletihan setelah hampir 2 bulan berada di luar kota bersama angkatan tentera dalam usaha menyelamatkan sang puteri..

“bagaimana ko boleh jumpa dgn laluan sulit tersebut Sang Merah? Setahu hamba, sudah puas kita mencari dan buat research tentang kota ini namun hampa dgn hasilnya…” tanya Panglima Itam kepada Sang Merah.. Sang Merah dengan muka excited menjawab “Actually panglima… hamba dapat kod morse dari tuan puteri dari dalam kota. Tuan Puteri dengan yakinnya menunjukkan jalan yg terbaik utk kita menembusi kota ini…”.

“Hampeh!!.. apsal tuan puteri contact ko…. apsal dia x contact aku??.. kecik ati betul laa..” kata Panglima Itam dgn muke sedey.. “Laa… jgn lah panglima risau… tuan puteri cakap dia nak sms panglima tp battery kong… dats y dia hantar kod morse kat hamba.. dia kate klu hantar kat panglima…. ngabehkan boreh jo.. tuan puteri kate laaaa.. bkn hamba yg kata… hamba hanya menyampaikan pesanan hehhe..” terkulat2 Sang Merah bercerita sambil menunjukkan muka kerang busuk… “Oh yeke!!… hamba agak dah… tuan puteri ingat punyer kat hamba..” kembang kempis idung Panglima Itam sambil menutur kata…

“Baiklah… 1 jam lg kita akan cuba menawan kota ini… Merah!!.. ko pg kumpulkan bala tentera.. arahkan Sang Hati supaya bersedia.. ahh… biarkan Sang Lega dan Sang Kecewa ikut bersama Sang Hati… incase something happen..” arah Panglima Itam. “Bagaimana Sang Gembira panglima??..” tanya Sang Merah.. “Sang Gembira akan pergi bersamaku..”…

1 jam kemudian………..

Serang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!……………. ting tong… pung ping… booommm tebabo……… peperangan antara angkatan tentera Panglima Itam dan tentera kubu A pun bermula dengan sengitnya…. “Ape ni Merah??!!.. kate puteri dah bg kod morse utk laluan sulit… ni yg kite kena serang plak ni apehal??? jawab2..!!” konpius Panglima Itam.. “Itu laa pasal…. hamba mmg confident.. 3 kali hamba translate kod morse tuh.. sama je result die.. tentang laluan sulit yg di kabarkan tuan puteri… tapi yg ni mcm pelik jer… tensen pakcik” tutur Sang Merah dgn tensen.. “Arghhh… abaikan….. alang2 kita dah masuk, biar semuanya berakhir hari ini juga… Serang!!!!!!!!!!”… bersemangat waja Panglima Itam memberi arahan kepada tenteranya….

selepas 30 minit…..

“Tuan puteri!!!!… argh… akhirnya” lega Panglima Itam melihat Puteri berjalan dgn langkah yg tenang…. “Ah.. Panglima Itam.. risau beta akan panglima sebentar tadi… tapi kenapa Panglima Itam yg datang ke kota ini… bukankah ada seorang puteri yg menunggu panglima d kota R sana.. hamba ingt putera X yg akan datang pada beta”.. hairan Sang Puteri.. “actually dah lama beta nk cakap bendalah ni… cuma battery asik kong jer.. so baru ari ni beta dpt sampaikan..” sambung sang puteri lagi…

“hmmmmmmm.. aku dah agak dah…. ini yg akan puteri cakap nanti… hehehe nasib baik Sang Hati di temani dgn Sang Kecewa dan Sang Lega.. klu Sang Kecewa sahaja bersama dgn Sang Hati.. susah lee jawapnya.. bijak jugak aku nih.. heheh ” fikir Panglima Itam sambil memandang syiling kota… “Panglima!!… luka di tangan tu……. “…..tekezut sang puteri melihat darah yg mengalir di tangan panglima Itam.. “xde ape tuan puteri.. sikit je ni.. luka di luar lagipun…….. kejap je… 2-3 ari ni.. baik laaa… xde hal lah… jgn laaa tuan puteri risau… hamba cukup gembira bile lihat tuan puteri ok… sihat sejahtera… itu pun sudah memadai… lagipun… tuan putera X dah lama tunggu puteri di Istana.. jom hamba iring tuan puteri pulang… memang sudah menjadi tugas hamba…. sebagai seorang panglima.. ” pantas panglima Itam memotong ayat puteri….. mujur Sang Gembira bersama aku di sisi.. aku dh agak Sang Sedey ni follow aku.. bangga betul aku dgn diri sendiri hehehe…..

“bagaimana dgn puteri R di kota R?” puteri bertanya lagi… ingin tahu… “xpe.. hamba x akan kesana kerana hamba yakin… Raja telah menghantar putera dari kota B utk menyelamatkannya…. lagipun.. benteng pertahanan kota R x sekukuh benteng kota A ini… hamba rasa laa.. tapi hamba akan cuba ambil kabar puteri R nanti dr spy yg hamba hantar..” balas Panglima Itam selamba……. “Terima kaseh panglima…….. susah2 jer… masuk kota nih… selamatkan beta”.. “no problem puteri…. I’ll be there for u… insyaALLAH”.. tersengih sang Panglima Itam mendengar pujian dr Sang Puteri……… Abang!!!!! abang!!!…… “eik….. apehal ber’abang2′ lak puteri nih…??

“subuh2……… isk… ape nk jadi nih….. asik lewat je bgn……… bgn ler teman oii…….. dah nk abis waktu dah ni…… heiiii….” arghhhhhh……… mimpi rupenye……. patut laaaaa pelik semacam jer……. warrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhh…. ngantok lagi nih……. sambg laa pas solat nanti……….
