Stieg Larsson is a crime writer who seemed to pop up out of nowhere with a trilogy of crime novels with a twist. Sadly, he died in 2004 before seeing any of his work come into fruition. Before he became and author he worked as a graphic designer and also campaigned heavily against right-wing extremism, in particular, Swedish neo-nazi activity.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Set in Sweden, the plot revolves around two protagonists with very different outlooks but who unite in the name of justice. Lisbeth Salander (she’d the one with the dragon tattoo) and Mikael Blomkvist are their names and hacking and investigative journalism are their games.

Blomkvist, a respected and  revered investigative journalist (and ladies man!) reveals a financial scandal at the beginning and becomes involved in a libel case against him, for which he offers no defence. Wanting to hide away in preparation for a prison sentence, he takes some freelance work from a wealthy man, Henrik Vanger, who wants him to investigate the disappearance of his niece, Harriet, over 30 years ago.

Blomvkist enlists the help of a private investigation firm and assigned to the role is their best analyst, Lisbeth Salander. Salander is a physically and emotionally under-developed woman who has been sexually abused in her life and is currently under the watchful eye of a benevolent guardian. Salander is a genius. She is a proficient hacker and has a photographic memory. Coupled with a deep sense of justice, she makes a terrifying adversary for anyone who crosses her. As the mystery of Harriet Vanger unfolds in the Vanger residence, the secrets of the family are revealed. The pair become closer as they learn about each other and they close in on the mystery.

Larsson is an ardent supporter of women’s rights, this is obvious from the outset as each new section opens with statistics about violence towards women in Sweden. Having Salander, the kick-ass heroine on the outskirts of society, as an emotionally stable and powerful woman who, despite her issues, has achieved sexual freedom and autonomy is a nice touch and steers well clear of the ususal woman = victim card.

Some of the secrets discovered in the Vanger closet ring true, given Larsson’s work against right-wing extremism. The most heinous crimes you can think of are part of the story and are dealt with in a sensitive manner without the usual gratuitous violence or sex we see in many modern crime fiction novels. Larsson writes from the heart about issues he is passionate about. Additonally, the details of the financial scandal are broken down for the reader and, refreshingly, the reader is assumed to be an intelligent onlooker as, by the end, no stone is left unturned or loose end left untied.

The Girl Who Played With Fire

The action-packed sequel develops further into the back-story to Lisbeth Salander and her motivations.

When Salander becomes a suspect in three murders, her name is dragged through the mud. It is Salander against the world. Well, the world and her faithful friend Blomkvist and her old boss at the PI firm, Armansky.

Focussing less on right-wing extremism, Larsson really hones in on sex crimes such as trafficking, abuse, rape and torture. Being issues close to Salanders heart we really start to understand her motivation and her perceived anger from the first installment turns to righteousness when we begin to understand where she has come from.

Blomkvist again uses his people skills to navigate his way through this thriller, ever raising our estimations of him as his unwavering support for his friend Salander leaves him with some scrapes and close shaves under his belt. But don’t worry, our lovable rogue ensures that a ‘few scrapes’ aren’t the only thing that get under his belt!

The sequel takes on the character development of the first book and runs with it, taking us on a journey through the minds and hearts of the protagonists which, by the end, weaves its way into a level of conflict that only the finest showdown can resolve.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest

Beginning with Salander in a hospital bed, a bullet lodged in her brain, the finale kicks off with a tense start. In the hands of the police and still wanted for murder, Salander and Blomkvist fight for justice in the biggest battle of them all. Ducking and diving from enemies in every direction, Salander must watch her back. Using technology to communicate with the outside world, she enlists the help of her hacker community while Blomkvist asks for the help of his sister, a lawyer renowned for her work on women’s rights.

Salander must fight tooth and nail for her freedom as the authorities attempt to rescind her freedom yet again. She has a trick up her sleeve that will embarrass and shame the authorities. All she needs is for them to walk right into her trap.

The final book in the trilogy changes focus, yet again, and we’re now observing a team anyone would want on their side. They work tirelessly to uncover a governmental plot spanning several agencies and buried so deep you can’t be sure it won’t just stay buried. Once again, the characters are fantastically written, with many of them displaying complexities and contradictions. Larsson meanders us through many narratives and plot-lines, adding just enough information where necessary. The pace is consistent for most of the book, but the final push at the end uncovers many more secrets and is the final nail in the coffin, so to speak for some.

As a whole, this is fantastic work  by Larsson. He maintains action, intelligence, empathy and mystery throughout and barely breaks gaze with the reader. There are a couple of elements of the ridiculous in the series, but none of it is for convenience or contrived and one can ‘overlook’ anything that might seem incredulous in favour of awe at such a well thought-out trilogy.

One word to describe: Contemporary (Maybe I shouldn’t have restricted myself to one word!)

Where to read: On a really long journey so you can read the trilogy from start to finish.

Who to recommend it to: Any kick-ass chicks in your life.

Mikael Blomkvist is an investigative journalist whose career has recently been thrown into travesty as his reputation is damaged by a libel case brought against him by the industrialist Hans-Erik Wennerstrom. Blomkvist is unable to continue his career in Stockholm and Henrik Vanger takes advantage of his hopeless situation by inviting him to work on the case of Harriet Vanger.

Blomkvists scepticism of his assignment does not stop him from moving into Vangers guest house and working tirelessly to solve the mystery. Blomkvist’s early excursions into the case leave him empty handed and it is not until he recruits the enigmatic and unique private investigator Lisbeth Salandar does the story even begin to unfold. Lisbeth is considered to be one of the most accurate employees of Milton Security but it is her secret skills as a computer hacker that encourages Mikael to acquire her help. A mutual affection develops between the two to the point that their underlying relationship has the potential to become more than a working relationship which creates a confusing situation for Mikael who is obviously in love with his editor back in Stockholm, Berger is a married women who has an open affair with Mikael.

Mikael finds a new vigour for the case and with the help of Lisbeth his investigations begin to ruffle some feathers of one or more of the residents on the island. Mikael finds that his seemingly quiet job in Hedeby has suddenly become so strenuous that another murder is commited on his porch while his own life is constantly under threat. Mikael is not deterred from his work and keeps working even though it may lead to his own untimely death.

The mysteries of this compelling novel will have you turning pages frantically.

Will Mikael survive his stay on Hedeby Island? Can he uncover the truth about Harriet’s murder? Where is Mikael and Lisbeth’s relationship leading? What else will we learn about the complex talents of Lisbeth Salander? Who is trying to kill Mikael? Is the Vanger family really as despicable as Henrik believes?

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a novel that seemingly has everything and is a must read for anyone who enjoys mystery novels and even for those who have’nt in the past. However, I must stress that certain scenes in this book are deeply disturbing and some of the topics discussed are not for the faint hearted.

The third and final book of the Millenium trilogy by the late Stieg Larsson is out, at least in the UK, and it is supremely entertaining. Just like its predecessors The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets’ Nest is a joy to read. But unlike the previous books this one doesn’t provide the same tense ride. Rather this book, unlike The Girl Who Played With Fire, is a direct sequel to its predecessor. It takes place immediately after the events of the second, but quickly loses the pace of the others.

Part of the problem is that the book for the main heroine is set in one of two rather boring places – the hospital or the court room. All the events of the book happen around Lisbeth Salander, stripping her of the strength she was embued with in the previous books. Her skills exist with computers and mathematics continue to exist but play little in developing the story. There is only one point that any chance of change with Salander occurs and that’s based on the events of the previous book, when she got shot. Sadly, it never comes to fruition and instead is dismissed as a brief interlude that seemed to take only one paragraph to resolve.

Salander sits out the majority of the book, a puppet to the other players in this drama oblivious to most of the ongoings of all save those in her immediate vicinity. Mikael Blomkvist instead is, for lack of a better word/term, the one and only well informed player with powers that rival any omnipotent narrator. This doesn’t make for a bad book, rather it makes me feel that Stieg Larsson died too soon and thus wasn’t able to edit the book and make the changes he felt were needed.

Instead there are plenty of other strong women throughout the novel but all of them need Blomkvist at some point or in some way – undermining the purpose of the series, at least I think so. Either way, the book was a good, entertaining read that I found hard to put down and makes me excited to see the film version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,  whenever it makes its way to the USA.

The one final thing I have to note, having read the British version of this book it was really nice to see that they kept all of the locations in Sweden in Swedish. Now it may not seem like much, but to me it’s nice to see that we’re slowly getting over this attitude that we were the first to discover the world – after all Göteborg isn’t the only place with an English equivalent.

In het tweede Millenium-boek ‘De vrouw die met vuur speelde’ voert schrijver Stieg Larsson de bokser Paolo Roberto ten tonele. De reden lijkt duidelijk; Stieg zocht een personage dat zich fysiek kon meten met het mysterieuze monster Ronald Niedermann. Een fluitje van een cent, want Stieg schept met ogenschijnlijk gemak het ene na het andere personage. Een fictieve bokser bedenken, met alle gewenste eigenschappen, moet voor hem geen probleem geweest zijn.

Paolo Roberto

Maar ook hier demonstreert Stieg overduidelijk zijn hang naar het willen opereren op de grens van feiten en fictie. Hij schept geen fictieve bokser, maar schuift doodleuk de bestaande profbokser Paolo Roberto zijn verzonnen verhaal binnen. Deze Rocky van het hoge noorden werd in 1969 geboren in Zweden, was een streetfighter en begon op zijn 24e als professional. Zijn laatste tegenstander trof hij in 2003, maar deze bleek in de tweede ronde al te sterk en Roberto hing zijn handschoenen definitief aan de wilgen. Op Wikipedia staan uitgebreide statistieken met betrekking tot de loopbaan van Paolo Roberto.

Het had een willekeurige vechtersbaas kunnen zijn die Miriam Wu moest redden uit de vernietigende handen van Ronald Niedermann. Misschien moet je een Zweed zijn om te begrijpen waarom het zo leuk was om dit door Paolo Roberto te laten uitvoeren. Aan Stieg kunnen we helaas niet meer vragen. Ik denk dat hij zou zeggen dat hij het vooral zelf een erg grappig idee vond.

Maar de grap rolt nog een stukje verder dan Stieg wellicht had durven denken. Zoals je waarschijnlijk wel weet komt er een ook een verfilming van het tweede en derde deel van de Millennium trilogie. En wie denk je dat de rol van de profbokser mag spelen? Precies. Paolo Roberto speelde in 1987 al eens in een film (Stockholmsnatt) en is door allerlei televisieoptredens een echte BZ-er (Bekende Zweed) geworden. Zo nam hij onder andere deel aan de Zweedse versie van Dancing with the Stars.

Arnold Vanderlyde

Misschien doen wij in literair opzicht wel te weinig met onze Hollandse helden. Denk alleen al eens aan onze driemaal olympisch brons winnende held Arnold Vanderlyde. Die hult zijn gespierde torso tegenwoordig in een maatpak om het bedrijfsleven te behagen (www.vanderlyde.nl). Ik zeg, zonde van zo’n prachtige jongen. Is er misschien een talentvolle Nederlandse schrijver die deze toffe gast een leuke gastrol wil geven in zijn boek? Arnold de ex-profbokser die even orde op zake komt stellen in een hok met criminelen? Ik verheug me nu al op de verfilming.

Prescindible. Película plana: personajes planos, escenas planas, tema plano, argumento plano. El nuevo director de la saga echa mano de la tijera, y la trama queda reducida a dimensiones comerciales. Pero el resto queda reducido a un trailer. Queda un ritmo (también plano) fluido, una fotografía en ocasiones atractiva. Y un aire entre documental y desabrido, como si la película hubiese sido adaptada por lectores hartos de oir hablar de la novela. Para los que hayan leído esta segunda entrega, decepción. Para los que no lo hayan hecho, confusión. Prescindible del todo.

In deel twee en drie van de Millennium Trilogie speelt Ronald Niedermann een opvallende rol. Hoe komt het dat de machtige stoten van profbokser Paulo Roberto hem totaal niet lijken te deren? Waarom kijkt de kwaadaardige Niedermann alleen wat verbaasd nadat Lisbeth Salander bij de boerderij in Gosseberga zijn hand heeft doorkliefd?

In deel drie kijkt Lisbeth haar halfbroer aan en vraagt ze hoe het inmiddels met zijn hand is. Niedermann steekt zijn rechterhand omhoog, zijn pink is eraf. “Het raakte geïnfecteerd. Ik heb hem moeten amputeren”, antwoord hij.

Ronald Niedermann lijdt aan congenitale analgesie, een ziekte waarbij de patiënt geen pijn kan voelen. Congenitaal betekent aangeboren, analgesie betekent het ontbreken van pijn. Paracetamol is een analgeticum, oftewel een medicijn dat gebruikt wordt om pijn te verzachten of weg te nemen. Toch is de pijnzin van vitaal belang voor ons voortbestaan als menselijk soort.

De belangrijkste functie van pijn is de werkzaamheid als beschermingsmechanisme. Zonder pijngewaarwording zou ons lichaam onderworpen worden aan een aantal beschadigende gebeurtenissen met een mogelijk dodelijke afloop. Als we bijvoorbeeld een hete pan langdurig vasthouden of als we in een spijker trappen, ervaren we dat als zeer onaangenaam. Door zulke ervaringen proberen we dergelijke situaties voortaan te vermijden.

Over de zeldzame ziekte congenitale analgesie wordt o.a. gezegd: ”congenitale analgesie (aangeboren afwezigheid van pijnzin) gaat met veel complicaties gepaard. De patiënt loopt namelijk verwondingen op, zonder ze op te merken of te voelen. Uitgebreide destructie van gewrichten en decubitus kan hierbij leiden tot een vroege dood.”

Lezers van deel drie van de Millennium Trilogie weten dat ook Niedermann door zijn ziekte vroeg aan zijn einde komt. Hij wordt daarbij alleen een handje geholpen door Lisbeth Salander. Voor wie vergeten is wat er ook al weer gebeurde heb ik onderstaand plaatje toegevoegd…..

Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace)

Gisteravond heb ik hem dan eindelijk gezien: de film Mannen die vrouwen haten van regiseur Niels Arden Oplev, de verfilming van het eerste boek van Stieg Larsson. Naderhand realiseerde ik me dat ik 150 minuten non-stop gefascineerd naar het scherm heb zitten zitten kijken. Een goede vriend, die het boek niet gelezen had en samen met mij de film zag, had hetzelfde ervaren. We waren het eens: de acteurs en de beelden zijn werkelijk een lust voor het oog.

Het verhaal van het boek is voor de film sterk teruggebracht. Wat mij betreft zijn de juiste stukken eruit gesneden, al had ik die in het boek zeker niet willen missen. Mijn enige kritiek op de film is dat er ondanks het snijden toch teveel is overgebleven om in 150 minuten te laten zien. De haast die hiervoor nodig is gaat ten koste van de speciale sfeer van het boek en de diepgang van de karakters.

Misschien lijdt ik gewoon wel aan de klassieke desillusie van iemand die het boek eerst gelezen heeft. Toch denk ik dat de film nauwelijks beter gemaakt had kunnen worden. De kracht van Larssons verhalen is gewoon niet te vertalen naar een film. Die kracht betreft het zeer realistisch kunnen neerzetten van echte mensen. Larsson neemt daar in zijn boeken gewoon uitgebreid de tijd voor en dat vind ik nu juist zo geweldig. 

Maak niet de fout door eerst de film te bekijken. Eerst lezen en dan pas naar de bios. Met het boek in je achterhoofd vul je de leemtes in de film vanzelf in. En dan is hij dik genieten.

Plague (Thomas Kohler)

AsPhyxia. Weet je het weer? Het programma waarmee de citizens van Hacker Republic computers van anderen op internet kunnen controleren. Deel3, blz. 290: “Poison verklaarde dat hij het programma met succes had gebruikt en dat zijn geupdate versie de laatse versies van UNIX, Apple en Windows omvatte. Lisbeth mailde een kort antwoord waarin ze bedankte voor de upgrade.”

En natuurlijk staat er een lolbroek op die, namens het bedrijf Binary Development, software aanbiedt onder de productnaam AsPhyxia. Op zijn website beweert hij: With this tool, you can control unlimited numbers of computers over over a LAN, WAN or the Internet without the owner knowing about it. It provides speedy, secure remote access, automated scripting and more. Support for clients with multimonitors has also been added in latest release.

Onderin de pagina geeft hij zichzelf bloot als hij schrijft: There is no Lisbeth Salander working here. Please stop asking thanks.

Maar er zijn meer sites die meeliften op de aantrekkingskracht van het fictieve software programma AsPhyxia. Ik heb maar niet getest wat er gebeurt als ik de software van bijvoorbeeld deze website op mijn computer installeer. Durf jij het wel? Ik hoor graag je bevindingen. Ook als je computer volledig overgenomen is door een stel hackers natuurlijk.

In deel 3 Gerechtigheid staat op bladzijde 286 en 287 een precieze beschrijving van de geheime wijze waarop Lisbeth Salander contact maakt met haar trouwe cybervrienden van Hacker Republic. Ik kon het niet nalaten deze werkwijze op het internet te onderzoeken en kwam tot een verrassende conclusie! Lees even mee:

Blz. 286: “Ze ging als eerste naar een particuliere website van een onbekende en niet erg vakkundige amateur fotograaf genaamd Gill Bates in Jobsville, Pennsylvania (…)”.

“Ze scrolde naar foto honderdzevenenzestig en klikte op vergroten.”

“De foto stelde de kerk in Jobsville voor.”

“Ze zette de stylus op de punt van de spits van de kerktoren en klikte. Er verscheen onmiddelijk een pop-up venster dat een username en een password vereiste.”

“Ze pakte de digitale pen en schreef het woord [zie deel 3, pagina 286] in het vakje voor de username en [zie deel 3, pagina 286] als password. Er verscheen een vakje met de tekst error – You have the wrong password en een toets met ok – Try Agian“. Lisbeth wist dat als ze ……”.

Afijn, volg de pagina’s 286 en 287 van deel 3 Gerechtigheid en ondek zelf maar wat er gebeurt. You’ll be suprised with what you may find. Tevens ondekte ik dat ik de eerste Nederlander ben die de geheime site van Hacker Republic (aantoonbaar) bereikt heeft! Lukt het jou ook? 

Hiernaast zie je trouwens de Palm Tungsten T3 handcomputer die Lisbeth Salander stiekem in het ziekenhuis gebruikte om met de wereld te communiceren (deel 3, Gerechtigheid).

Lisbeths Salanders riante huis (vanaf deel 2) heeft als adres Fiskargatan 9, Stockholm. Dit adres bestaat echt, hiernaast zie je een foto van het pand. Het adres ligt op Södermalm, een van de 14 eilanden waaruit de hoofdstad bestaat. En zo heeft Stieg Larsson in de Millennium Trilogie allerlei bestaande locaties genomen om zijn fictieve personages in te laten verblijven.

Mikael Blomkwists appartement mag er ook zijn, getuige de foto van het prachtige pand aan de Bellmansgatan 1 in Stockholm.  “Hij keek in gedachten door het raam naar buiten naar de stroom mensen op de Götgatan. Dat was een van de dingen die hij het prettigst vond van zijn kamer. De Götgatan was dag en nacht een levendige bedoening en als hij voor het raam zat, voelde hij zich nooit echt geisoleerd of alleen” (Deel 3, blz 210).

Mocht je een keer naar Stockholm gaan, zoek dan naar de mogelijkheid om met een excursie langs de adressen uit Millennium te lopen. Ik heb begrepen dat er wekelijks ook een tour in het Engels gedaan wordt.

De gekte rondom de Millenium Trilogie reikt ver. Hieronder laat ik je een kaartje zien van Google Maps, waarop een zekere Tom de plaats van de (niet-bestaande) steenfabriek uit het eind van deel 3 heeft gemarkeerd. Wil je al zijn Millennium markeringen op de kaart van Zweden nalopen klik dan hier. Je kunt dan bijvoorbeeld ook de plaats en een foto van het buitenhuisje van advocaat Nils Bjurman zien (uit deel 2). Dat huisje bestaat blijkbaar dan weer wel echt. Maar er zijn nog veel meer echte locaties te vinden zoals je zult zien.

Cele cateva intrebari de mai sus sunt menirea unei mici curiozitati personale in plan indepartat iar in plan apropiat scopul lor a fost camuflarea neputintei incropirii unei recenzii pentru cele doua romane ale trilogiei Millenium care au facut cunostinta cu rafturile librariilor:

Nu, n-as fi in stare sa-ti vand cartile astea printr-o recenzie bogata in metafore si cuvinte laudative chiar daca pe ecusonul meu ar scrie “director adjunct marketing & vanzari”.
Ele se pot comercializa singure, sunt exemplu de carti care se pot vinde datorita numelui.
Eu garantez doar esentialul: o poveste credibila (putin fortata in anumite momente) care duce la
o lectura pasionanta.

Iar pana la ultima parte a trilogiei (2010, nimic oficial) – rabdare si tutun (unde e cazul).

Hola de nuevo.

Como ya he escrito en algún comentario, ayer empecé La chica que soñaba con una cerilla y un bidón de gasolina, el segundo libro de la trilogía Millenium. Aún no lo he terminado así que no puedo hacer una crítica completa, pero entre párrafos y párrafos creo haberme encontrado con unas de las páginas más superfluas que he leído en mi vida (y eso que ante mis ojos han pasado páginas y  más páginas).

Sin desvelar nada de la novela que pueda incordiar, diré que tenemos varias páginas que narran una tras otra las compras que hace Lisbeth Salander para su nueva casa y, entre ellas, tenemos 2 completas que enumeran los muebles que compra en Ikea. Por un lado no me sorprende, teniendo en cuenta el origen de la tienda, que aparezca en la novela. Lo que me dejó alucinada es cómo lo cuenta Larsson.

Poniendo un ejemplo sencillo, lo que espero cuando me describen unos muebles es algo del tipo “y compró un sofá rojo de 3 plazas con funda de pana” (así era el sofá de Ikea de mi primer piso en Madrid), pero lo que leemos en el libro es (y copio) “Compró dos sofás del modelo Karlanda, en tela de color arena, cinco sillones Poäng, de estructura flexible…”. ¿Sabe alguien lo que ha comprado? ¿Cómo va a ser su nueva casa? Yo me quedé como estaba. Puede que la sociedad sueca esté tan acostumbrada a los diversos modelos de Ikea que con sólo eso sepa de qué estamos hablando, pero personalmente tengo mis serias dudas. Con bastantes risas al respecto lo comenté con mi madre que, debido a su trabajo, se sabe los catálogos de memoria (entre otros de muchas marcas). Ella, que da igual en que tienda de éstas entre, que sabe ir a por lo que quiere sin dar ese paseo prediseñado (muy inteligentemente) que nos marcan, tenía dudas sobre ciertos muebles… ¡¡Imagínate el resto del mundo!!

Así que viendo la gracia del tema, lo absurdo de esas páginas y los comentarios a los que ha dado lugar en casa, he decidido buscarlos uno por uno y ponerlos aquí para se puedan consultar de un vistazo rápido. Allá van:

Pues hala, ya se puede uno imaginar la decoración (más o menos).

Mañana inauguraré una sección que pretendo actualizar cada vez que sea posible con anecdotillas exasperantes y que pienso titular “Pequeñas odiseas de la vida diaria”.

Il y avait longtemps que je n’étais pas allé au cinéma. Erreur réparée, avec 2 films vus ce week-end : Millenium et les Lascars. Un des deux m’a beaucoup plu… et il ne parle pas de jeunes de banlieue.

Millenium, l’adaptation du premier opus de la célèbre trilogie de Stieg Larsson est très réussie !!!

Je ne sais pas si ça vous est déjà arrivé, mais en voyant Super Mickael et Lisbeth à l’écran, j’avais l’impression d’avoir ouvert mon livre et donné vie aux personnages de ce captivant thriller. Les deux acteurs principaux – mais également les seconds rôles – sont l’incarnation des héros de la trilogie. Et la performance d’actrice de Noomie Rapace est sur ce point absolument remarquable : elle est Lisbeth, avec sa force, sa violence, sa détermination, sa fragilité, ses aspects plus noirs…  L’acteur qui joue Mickael, nous offre un Blomkvist brillant et déterminé mais usé et un peu las. Comme dans le livre…

Comme toute adaptation, le film doit faire des concessions par rapport au livre. Si certains aspects seront donc oubliés (la relation Erika – Mickael) ou vraiment raccourcis (le procès initial perdu par Blomkvist), ils ne dénaturent en rien l’histoire, qui garde sur les 2h30 de film, une grande cohérence et une vraie fidélité à l’œuvre.

Fidélité jusque dans le rythme : à l’image du livre très détaillé, le film sans jamais être rapide – peu de poursuites, d’images rapides -  n’offre pourtant aucun temps mort.

Un premier épisode réussi, que ceux qui ont lu le livre, comme ceux qui ne l’ont pas encore lu, devraient apprécier. En tout cas, moi, j’ai beaucoup aimé.

Alors forcément, si j’ai aimé Millenium, j’ai beaucoup moins aimé les Lascars. Et beaucoup moins est un euphémisme.

Comme disent parfois les jurés d’un radio-crochet accoucheur de tortue, “je suis passé à côté”. Bon, la seule chose qui me rassure – et encore – c’est que mes voisins aussi. Devant, derrière, et à droite, je ne les ai pas entendu rire non plus.

L’animation est réussie, et le scénario dépasse l’épaisseur d’une feuille de papier à rouler un joint… Mais ceci mis à part, j’ai trouvé l’ensemble bête et sans intérêt. Un peu comme si les Simpsons avaient atterri dans le 9-3. Certes, les flics qui font la bringue et imitent les “cailleras” font sourire. Et la fiancée de Tony Merguez (Merguez, comme la saucisse… ah ah ah, mort de rire) en amoureuse déjantée est plutôt drôle.

Mais au-delà de ça, j’ai du mal à comprendre l’enthousiasme autour de ce film d’animation… Sans doute que je dois faire partie de la frange de population que ça laissera perplexe.
