I really need to get better at this blog thing, I know I should be posting a lot more often, and though paper is a most exciting enterprise, I don’t always have a lot to say. But boy do I have news!

Recently I merged with an invitation company called Salutations. Long story short, I met Jess, the owner of Salutations, through a mutual friend. We live about ten minutes from each other and both live in pseudo-paper warehouses! After lots of talking, lots of coffee, and lots more coffee, we decided to join forces. As an established wedding invitation designer, Jess was itching to start selling paper (crazy girl!) and now that I’m doing this paper thing full-time, I needed to do more designing. Talk about a perfect match! We’re now working together. It’s so fun to have a partner. It gets lonely working from home all by yourself (I know, wah, wah) but truly, it’s nice to have someone as crazy about paper as I am to talk to. And my husband sure appreciates the break!

We just launched Salutations new website which offers paper for brides looking to design their own invitations (with paper from yours-truly) along with custom-design services and a full-line of catalog invitations. So yes, in car-salesmen speak, we’re your one-stop-invitation shop!

With one bridal show under our belts as the new Salutations, things are busy and extremely exciting! I hope you’ll check out the new site. Whether you’re designing your own invitations and could use a little inspiration, or could use some design help, we’ve got it all.

And don’t worry, bluedotpapershop.com is still your same favorite paper store. We’ll be adding more products, samples and ideas thanks to Salutations, but we’re only changing for the better!

The introduction is always difficult, and mine will be crappy. Sure, I have studied advertising for much too long and I know that the first impression is important. However, I find that superficial and stupid, much like advertising itself. I have no idea what I am going to use this blog for, yet, but I can assure you that there will be no cohesion among any of the posts. We, here at kivoinblog, strive for confusion and I hope that we can achieve our goal of alienating anyone who trips onto this little site. But, whatever, congratulations, you made it here. The question you must now ask yourself: can you ever go back?

Or as we crass and pedantic Americans say, the insipid “hello“.

Oh my lovelies, how the years have swept past. I have been living as Thoreau lived once long ago, in the rural rustic antiquated state of Northern Carolina, in the Dixie region. My oh my, tis hard to find a solid winery in these parts. Of course there are some near the Biltmore region (a region of hemp and table Merlot(VOMIT)). Enough of such blasé matters though. I have decided to end my literary sabbatical, and will once again with renewed fervor dash my knowledge upon the rocks of the internet, spreading it far and wide. Have you missed me? A foolish question, I know the answer is yes.

Oh, how things have changed though! When I last wrote, “box wine” was something only the proles down near the train-tracks drank, to wash away their sullen dirty tears and forget their erudite dreams. Now even some of my lesser acquaintances have taken to bringing “space bags(so named because only lost Cosmonauts drunk on their socialized spacecraft would drink from them)” with them during our weekly Vin et fromage galas. The nerve! How uncouth, I know you must be thinking. And you are correct in your disbelief. I quickly deleted them from my blogroll and tweet list. Without my proper guidance, I fear the world has become a darkened place, full of idiots spouting nonsense and drinking terrible white wines. Lucky for us all, I have returned. Until next time, think of a warm Spring evening fireflies aglow, as a bottle of Odibestif wine breathes the tranquil air.

Hello! and farewell!

“Hi There” was an interesting read. I was brung up to use Sir and Ma’am in all my interactions with anyone older than me. I used to address people by their last name, prefixed by a Mr., Ms. Professor, Or Dr. etc. I did the same when communicating via email, and facebook, etc. However, since the arrival of twitter, yammer and the likes, things have changed. I now address people with their login name prefixed by an @ symbol (e.g. @weaselese (my twitter name)). This is not only the norm in the world of twitter and yammer, but also a requirement for the platform to function properly. It’s amazing to see how fast a technology can erode years of cultural training.

Introducing a new blog is always a small leap of faith, since you never know whether you’ll make good on your promises and actually turn your initial enthusiasm into something even remotely readable. To date, a dearth of comments and hits by would-be interested visitors has been the most optimistic scenario ever achieved on my other blogospheric dwellings. I can only be so fortunate as to emulate the same result here (without too much embarrassment along the way).

But yeah, why? Well, mostly because I’m getting sloppy with my second languages, but also because I’m taking an BA in English and I need to start practicing how to pair up a couple of phrases here and there. Because I’m a lawyer in my mid-twenties who combats monotony with a busy and uneventful life, and because I don’t much fit in anywhere else — this being a formidable and thus far unchallenged constant. And naturally, because I like words, long sentences, disabled spell-checkers, and contrived trains of thought.

I expect I’ll be initially jabbering quite a lot about books, as the raison d’être of this place is – as mentioned above – my upcoming degree and its literary overtones. But I’m not easily contained; cheerfulness keeps breaking in, as do the other wonders of this world that I see from afar. And I wholeheartedly welcome every word of criticism, observation or commentary that my modest texts may engage you to offer.

Signed: António (or just Anthony, for those without fabulous diacritical keyboards).

Can you believe it’s 2010?

If you’re in Hobart, could you believe or imagine more spectacular New Years weather?

I melted in the heat, ate watermelon for dinner and watched the New Year roll in with the lightening on a blanket on the shore of Cornelian Bay.

This picture is from The Mercury’s little ‘crazy NYE weather’ album.

It’s unusual for me not to blog a Happy Channukah/Christmas/Kwaanza or a New Years Eve wish list but core thoughts tend to stand from year to year:- I hope you’ve all been happy and safe and that life looks brighter, rather than darker, from where you stand right now.

I’ve been quietly enjoying a couple of (scheduled) weeks off formal employment and a couple of (unscheduled and very naughty) weeks off any other form of work at my desk. Pregnancy is bliss and family and old friends are too, so I decided after the busy-ness of the end of year to just wallow in this place for a while where I tend to my garden, groom my rabbits, eat watermelon and sort tiny donated clothes into season and size while generally just being enormous.

But the turning of the year begs to be marked so here I am. There are catchup posts to do waiting in the wings and early 2010 is full of exciting work and exhibitions which I will tell of soon enough.

BUT what is truly incredible is that:

In 2010 I will turn 40.
In 2010 I will celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary.
In 2010 I will have a child.

What a year it’s going to be.
