Recently my music tastes have changed quite dramatically.

I’m a big R&B fan and I like “some” hip-hop.

Although lately I have been listening to alot of old school rock, new school and alot of New Zealand and Australian music.

A couple of bands and songs I’ve started to listen to and actually enjoy are:

The Verve – Bitter Sweet Symphony

To everyone else these are just regular songs, but to me it seems strange, as a kid  could never get into rock music or slow jams.

I think my mind was just racing too fast and wanted it to speed up. I also can not stand sad songs, or songs that remind me of old times.

I don’t know what it is but everytime I hear a certain Carpenters song I nearly start crying, it reminds me of being a kid driving over Saddle hill in Dunedin with my mum.

Call me strange/fucked up I don’t blame you. For someone that hates crying or getting into emotional situations, I do it alot!!

Well that is enough from me today……..

To me, the limelight wasn’t on the openly gay singer Sam Sparrow in the June edition of Attitude Magazine. The real star was the Australian surfer-turned-Armani model Jaymes Triglone who posed around the pool in swim wear. The layout “Before Night Falls” was done by the gifted Simon Harris. In one of the pages, we see Triglone supporting his body which was leaning on air with his pointed toes and hands on the rail but still looking effortless (and sexy!) Now that’s a professional.

Sam Sparro’s amazing debut album will officially be released in the U.S. later this month. Of course, all you savvy pop aficionados around the world have already found a way to get a hold of this good piece of music, but the time has come to pop the champagne and share our little secret with others.

Sparro’s self-titled debut album will hit U.S. shores on June 24 and will be released on Universal Repuplic, the label that previously brought us acts like Amy Winehouse and Mika.

The openly gay pop singer brings an utterly delicious, solid and consistent blend of pop, soul and funk that has superstar written all over it. It’s Prince, Goldfrapp and D’Angelo are rolled into one irresistable package. His single “Black & Gold” that typifies Sam’s signature sound – as Sam would it put it, “classic soul meets classic funk mixed with the kind of music I listen to now.”

Jamie Principle was on to something way back in 1986, I was only 3 at the time and out came Your Love onto the Chicago House music scene when Frankie Knuckles was bringing the house down in the Warehouse… Stories of how people used to copy this rampantly from cassette to cassette are rife and it evokes a sense of something wonderful to me, something much more so than iTunes music sharing… Guess I’m of the cassette tape era, awful quality mind!

Thankfully I am glad to have been to Chicago a couple of times for extended periods and I have a feel for what it must have been like back then in the day. (And here’s me full of mirth when I hear things like Toca’s Miracle 2008… It was only 8/9 years ago it came out to start with!)

And then in 1991, Candi Staton got together with The Source for the smash hit
You Got The Love. You couldn’t go nowhere for this song being played, and for that to remain etched on my mind when I was only eight years old at the time is saying something. Likewise as with Jamie Principle’s ‘original’ I love this.

Many people dispute that this was released in 1991 for some reason and rather jump to the New Voyager Remix from 1996 which was simarlarly massive. At a party last summer I was trying to persuade folks that not only was the track from 1991 (which they didn’t believe) but in fact it went as far back as 1986. (And for that I was off my rocker!)

Sorry folks, but I’m right on this one. (I have to be right on something once in a while after all )

I have a feeling another re-release was done in and around 2003/04 but I’m not certain, either way, looks like that age old melody that tripped from the mind of Jamie Principle is living on, and in one of my favourite tunes of the moment, Sam Sparro ‘Black and Gold’ has an excellent remix… And yes, spot that melody. 23 years on and as good as it always was…

Well there’s my bit of public service and finally laid to rest that this song was definitely released in 1991, and arguably has roots as far back as 1986…

Happy to get back from Paris women collections! Of course you’ve missed me for two weeks and I’ve missed you too guys! Damned: how can I start? Too many things happened, shows, interviews, my rundown of Paris women collections Fall-Winter 2008 and a special topic about my Paris, full of pictures… Wake-up babe! Let’s start with my man :

“The Beautiful Fall” of Gaspard Yurkievich:

Every detail is perfect in Gaspard’s universe: the thin silk paper invitation with an electric blue shaded and the shiny gold geometrical lines on a deep sensual black catwalk, a kind of futuristic eighties and a microphone on each sides of the model entrance to the catwalk. The hall looks like a crowded small black box in Carroussel du Louvre.

A young girl leads me to my seat, I check my Canon, maybe some snapshots later… I read: Elvis Pompilio’s hats and look at faces in rows like pixels composing a modern painting. Yes maybe few backstage snapshots for the human, the atmosphere, a feeling behind perfection.

It gets darker, in front of microphones Sam Sparro and Dani Siciliano, the musicians dressed in Gaspard Yurkievich, show must go on, the first model… Silence please!

Enfin rentrée des collections! Je vous ai manqué ces quinze jours derniers : vous oui biensûr ! L’horreur: sais plus par où qui quoi commencer entre les shows, interviews, compte rendu de l’ Automne-Hiver Femme 08/09 et mon Spécial Paris… N’en jetez plus ! Allez allez, on attaque par le nouveau résident de mon blog lounge que j’aime beaucoup beaucoup:

Tout est ultra soigné dans l’univers de Gaspard, l’invit fin papier de soie électrique dégradé, un catwalk aux lignes géométriques or sur du noir velouté, légèrement eighties du futur, un micro de part et d’autre de l’ouverture d’où arriveront les mannequins, petite boîte noire salle comble du Carroussel du Louvre.

On me dirige vers ma place, vérifie vaguement mon Canon pour un vague snapshotage… Je lis : chapeaux d’Elvis Pompilio, vieille connaissance. Egale, me perds dans ces visages alignés, à peine quelques clichés backstage: l’humain l’ambiance un sentiment derrière la perfection.

L’éclairage baisse, les musiciens Sam Sparro et Dani Siciliano devant leur micro respectif, habillés en Yurkievich de la future saison, show must go on, première silouhette… Silence ça tourne !
