Terming Amar Singh and Jaya Prada as “intruders”, Samajwadi Party on Tuesday expelled them from the

Terming Amar Singh and Jaya Prada as “intruders”, Samajwadi Party on Tuesday expelled them from the party on grounds of indulging in anti-party activities and denting its socialist image.

The decision was taken at the SP parliamentary board meeting chaired by party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav here, national general secretary and spokesman Mohan Singh told reporters.

He said the party also suspended membership of four MLAs — Madan Chauhan, Sandeep Agarwal, Ashok Chandel and Sarvesh Singh — all Amar Singh loyalists.

“For over a month some leaders of the party have been continuously giving statements against the SP,” Mr. Singh said.

He said that on January 31, Lok Sabha member Jaya Prada had held a press conference in which she made “indecent comments” against the SP leadership and spit venom against its policies.

“She also gave statements in support of Kalyan Singh, which the party thought had dented its secular image. Any leader, howsoever important, he or she cannot be allowed to make public statements against any political party,” he said.

“Therefore, the parliamentary board has decided to expel Jaya Prada from the primary membership of the party,” he said, adding that she was a “guided missile” of Amar Singh.

Mr. Singh said Amar Singh attempted to “deshape” the SP. “His entry in the party was capitalist and communal intrusion intended to damage the socialist movement,” he alleged.

He said that to free the party from such forces, the party decided to expel him from the primary membership with a “heavy heart”.

The SP spokesman said, “He (Amar) voluntarily floated Lok Manch, which is a parellel organisation to SP and repeatedly attempted to create a rift, engineer a split and dent the image of the party.

“SP’s policy is that of casteless politics, whereas Amar Singh attempted to promote casteist politics,” he alleged.

Mohan Singh said the party will move a petition before Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman to disqualify them from the two Houses of Parliament on grounds of indulging in anti-party activities.

He said the four MLAs, who were “conspiring to engineer a split” in the party in UP and had become followers of Amar Singh, have been suspended from the primary membership of the party. “The state unit has been asked to make an inquiry into their conduct and take action against them“.

Regarding Jaya Bachchan, the SP spokesman said that so far she had not done anything which amounted to anti-party activity.

Asked about the future of Sanjay Dutt, another party General Secretary who quit his post to express solidarity with Amar Singh, he said the party does not take any cognisance of him.

“He was not associated with the party. After campaigning for the party in UP, he voted for the Congress in Maharashtra. As he has already resigned from the party post we do not take any congnisance of him anymore,” he said.

Alleging that Amar Singh dented the unity of the party, he said, “Before the disease spreads further, the party decided to do a corrective surgery”.

Here you go — another tribute :

With just the right amount of kurta cleavage, I thought this was a fake — but it isn’t. I swear I would have expected an image of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan when Amar Singh does a Hanuman. But as is obvious, he devotion to the Bachchan parivar hasn’t touched greatness.

If you remember, Amar Singh announced his retirement in May with these words :

I want to give more time to my wife and my family. Therefore after the last day of polling (on May 13), I will retire from politics.

I wrote a post bidding cheerful adieu to the great man. Of course, he didn’t retire.

Yesterday, he finally stepped down from the post of Samajwadi Party Gen. Secy. for different reasons :

I have to devote more time towards my responsibilities to my family.

The post of SP Gen. Secy. is never going to be the same. With Amar Singh, the post was often confused as Gen. Sexy. — such was the man’s charisma. Now it will go back to being boring, old Secretary.

In remembrance, I am re-posting my earlier post. Hope you enjoy, Mr. Amar Singh, and go on to live a thousand years .. assuming the Mayans are right.

**********

Samajwadi Party politician Amar Singh has managed to touch me deeply with his latest disclosure :

I want to give more time to my wife and my family. Therefore after the last day of polling (on May 13), I will retire from politics.

To quote Monica from Friends, this is like the end of an era ! It is like Batman and Robin (Mulayam Singh and Amar Singh) breaking up. With a heavy heart and tears in my eyes (as I cut onions), I present to you some of the most special moments spanning across his illustrious career :

Here he is radiating more attitude than the King Khan himself.

and a video which proves that Amar Singh is too big for the stage of politics :

To summarize, let’s just say that Amar Singh, just like the Amar from Andaz Apna Apna, India ke liye kabhi bana hi nahi tha (was never made for India). In a country where politicians are known for being corrupt and immoral, Amar Singh was the only politician with a spotless clean image, except for the controversies, corruption charges and criminal cases.

As the saying goes, they don’t make them like they used to.

Here’s wishing him luck in all his future endeavours. If I may humbly recommend alternate career choices, he could start his own chain of ATM’s (“Amar Singh’s brain counts cash faster than an ATM”) or be the mascot for Hutch giving that ugly dog some rest.

But we shall bid adieu to him like a war hero. In the shortest words possible,

Mr. Singh, whenever we see an unwanted object in a photograph, whenever we see a random guy posing with filmstars, whenever we see cash in these times of credit, we shall be reminded of you.

Goodbye, friend.

Superheroes make everything fun. Even something as dry as volunteering. I mean the whole concept of volunteering keeps on repeating the fact that you are merely a drop in the ocean, a ‘helper’ or a glorified farmhand.

If it helps any, you were successfully digested by a plankton very recently.

I have a growing suspicion that the people who volunteer are also the people who vote. Same philosophy, actually – lack of indivualism coupled with a neolithic urge to be a part of a tribe. Not that voting is wrong or anything; it’s just that people vote for parties like Samajwadi Party, which is also not wrong. It’s just that by doing that you’re making a very bold statement about your IQ.

Pictured: Democracy.

So getting back to ‘volunteerism’ (I had a very strong suspicion about the existence of this word until I Googled it.), I rave about it because I did a project on it for a paper. I rave about it because I believe in it. I rave about it because… Ah, who am I kidding… I rave about it because it involves me roaming around the city wearing a ’superhero costume’ (you’ll see why it’s in quotes a little later).

Yes, later means NOW. Also, those are not dildos on my ears.

Continuing with my rant, the whole idea was to associate superheroes with volunteers, just in case you didn’t get that a few paragraphs ago and by virtue of which you are a… er, let’s just say that if you ever vote, you’ll probably vote for Samajwadi Party. So yeah, any cause that you stand for or feel or touch or make a pass at, you can be a superhero for. So if you believe in plantation drives and incontinence at the same time, you could be called ‘Tree-Huggies’. And plus, if you wanted to keep your identity a secret and thus not look like one of those farts who keep blogging/ making Facebook notes about that one time they touched a leper without going ‘ewww’ or garbage about how they campaigned for abstinence while wearing condom shaped ski-masks. Also, let’s forget for a moment that it’s exactly what I am doing with this blog. Also, er, OMG LOOK BELOW!

Yes, photoshop is magic.

We called the campaign the ‘Pantheon of Purpose’ because ‘Justice Society’, ‘Planeteers’ and ‘Chandu Halwai Ke Puttar’ were already taken. Also, when abbreviated it spells P-O-P! How cool is that!!!
I know. Not very.

R. Jagannathan, executive editor of DNA, hits the nail on the nationalistic head in the Raj Thackera

R. Jagannathan, executive editor of DNA, hits the nail on the nationalistic head in the Raj Thackeray-Abu Azmi faceoff on Marathi versus Hindi:

“Speaking about Hindi as a national language is no different from speaking about Hinduism as India’s official cultural expression. Hindi is a great language, but it is not any more national than Marathi or Kannada, or Bengali or Telugu. Ironically, it was left to the MNS to point out the obvious: that Hindi is just another regional language of India.

“This is not an attempt to belittle Hindi. In fact, Hindi is best served when it gently mingles with the other national languages, contributing to their growth and, in turn, being enriched by them. No language grows by being exclusive: it grows by importing words and expressions it lacks; it strengthens other languages by giving them what they don’t have.

“If there is to be a truly national language, it will develop from an admixture of all Indian languages. One can see the beginnings of it in Mumbai’s khichdi Hindi — a Bollywood-enhanced version of which we saw in Sanjay Dutt’s Munnabhai.

“Even as we wait for a truly national lingo to evolve over the decades, supporters of Hindi are doing the language a great disservice by asserting its hegemony. Hindi is India’s largest spoken language, but that does not give it sole status as a national language. That would amount to imposing a linguistic majoritarianism that cannot but harm the country.”

Taking the democratic values to a new low ,4 M.L.A’s of Maharashtra NavNirman Sena slapped

Taking the democratic values to a new low ,4 M.L.A’s of Maharashtra NavNirman Sena slapped and hit Samajwadi Party chief Abu Azmi inside the Maharashtra assembly yesterday. The reason, Abu took the oath as the member of the house in Hindi and not in Marathi.

MNS says the feelings of Marathi’s were hurt as Abu did not take the oath in Marathi, while Abu defends his action by saying that he is not well versed in Marathi and hence it’s correct on his part to take the oath in the national language Hindi.

Raj Thackrey and his MNS have won mostly on the Marathi manoos plank , its understandable that they wish, that every MLA in Maharashtra takes his oath in Marathi. But a person likes taking an oath in a language of his/her choice, after all it’s he who is making the promise and he should make the promise in a language which is good at and a language that is close to his heart. Now why do you attack him just because he took his oath in Hindi. Moreover Hindi is the national language , it spoken by the majority of people in this country. Hence going against it really seems foolish.

One more thing I wish to condemn is the physical abuse part of it . It has become common for Raj Thackrey and his men in MNS to physically assault people .Previously they attacked the Bihari students who wished to attend a recruitment test in Mumbai… now they are attacking people in the Assembly itself.

On the other hand Abu Azmi also would do good to learn Marathi ,when you are a legislator of a region learning the local language and its dialects would help you more to connect to the general public. Can’t a legislator do that much for the people and the region he is representing ?????

If you love your language in true sense , standardize the language and make it ubiquitous as far as the state is concerned , this would make people learn it . But the love for the language should be there till it can be called as Abhiman… it should not go to an extent where it can be called durabhimaan. When Abhiman becomes durabhiman we end up eating the peel and leaving the banana. That’s what has happened with Tamil in the past, they went to an extent where people refused to speak the national language. That later on brought problems to Tamils who wanted to settle in other parts of India.

As an Indian and a responsible citizen I do condemn what ever has happened in the Maharashtra Assembly.Raj and and his followers are crossing n every limit of the civil society .The house has already disqualified 4 M.N.S Legislators for 4 years .Hope the government acts tough on Raj Thackrey and brings him to book. He is behaving more like a goon than like a responsible leader.Acting tough on him and initiating stern action against hime would set an example for the others in the days to come.

Abu azami was taking oath in hindi language and people who insisted he should take oath in the langu

Abu azami was taking oath in hindi language and people who insisted he should take oath in the language where he is elected from from, Marathi mal-handled him.
Until this it is OK, but after that 4 MLAs are suspended for 4 years and all there are riots on the road..
Are these riots going to help pave the road for “Marathi” in the state? Or is this going to help Marathi people insist their point.
Is this going to help maharashtrian people to do more business or is this just a stunt..
This is going to make daily wage workers out of work for a day. samajwadi party’s gundas in bombay (bhivandi) area stopped the local train and lots of travellers were stranded.
There were few incidents all over Maharashtra where MNS activists stopped the State and local transport buses, trains and pelted stones.
Is this going to bring back harmony between marathi and hindi controversy.
Is this even a fu**ing solution to stop all the traffic and local businesses?
how about all the arrested people are forced to work and reimburse the costs. What if there would have been loss of life? Should all these anti social elements be shot dead?
I would support it.
Abu Azami and Raj thakrey need to think about people who they work for.
This definitely shows adamant nature of Abu Azami. He is ridiculous. Well what do you expect from Samajwadi party goons.

I wonder where shivsena were. According to them it was their agenda hijacked by MNS

I digged on the net about these two characters Abu azami and Raj Thakrey.
Abu Azami is from Azamgarh, UP and came to mumbai 40 years back. He was convicted in 93 bomb blast.. There had been persistent allegations that Azmi is linked to Dawood Ibrahim.
This is pretty serious… he should have been shot dead by now for the known links with world terrorist Dawood. I am sure he is at mercy of great Judicial system in india.
so he is known gunda and natural alliance of Samajwadi Party.

Raj Thakrey is nephew of Balasaheb Thakrey and started his political career from Shiv sena and formed own party MNS. He has serious allegations of murder as well. So he and Abu Azmi as a character are not very different, I guees.
Thats how most of the people in politics are in India.

I still do not understand why Abu Azami was insisting to take oath in hindi than in marathi which is the language of the people he is going to “work” for as a MLA.
This would definitely be not allowed in Tamilnadu or Kerala or any sensible southern state.
I think this is just another stunt. He was slapped and he should have been.
How the heck Abu azami was allowed to fight elections with serious allegations like links with bomb blast and dawood. now he is legislator. wow.. this sure can happen only india.
He is been in mumbai for 40 years and can not speak the local language this is pretty dumb.

One thing always puzzled me that why hindi is our national language, certainly not hindi in south. why not Tamil or even Marathi.
Quite interesting aspect at http://www.indiastudychannel.com/forum/14208-Hindi-NOT-National-language-India.aspx

VHP leader Praveen Togadia today while questioning the Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi’s love for Hindi, accused him of dividing the Hindi speaking Hindus in Maharashtra and said he has no moral right to talk of Hindi.

“Azmi’s family had opposed Hindi in Uttar Pradesh and advocated Urdu as state language,” Togadia told reporters here saying he has no moral right to talk of Hindi.

Togadia was replying to a question over the incident of Azmi being manhandled on the floor of the house in Maharashtra Assembly during oath taking in Hindi on the opening day of the session.

Togadia however ducked questions over justifying act of rowdyism on the floor of the house by Raj Thackeray-led MNS MLAs.

Earlier, Togadia demanded arrests of all Islamic scholars present at the function where the Deoband issued ‘Fatwa’ against singing national song Vande Matram.

Giving virtually a clean chit to Home Minister P Chidambaram and Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, Togadia said both were not present when the ‘Fatwa’ was issued.

Those Islamic preachers (Moulvis) present at the function should be tried under the provisions of Anti-National Act, Togadia demanded.

VHP was also contemplating legal action against the Islamic organisation, he said and warned Hindus will strongly protest against such diktats.

PTI Chief Minister Ashok Chavan interacts with the media outside the Vidhan Bhavan over the suspension of four of MNS MLAs for assaulting Samajwadi Party legislator Abu Azami, in Mumbai on Monday.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Monday described the attack on Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena members in the Assembly as a blot on democracy and an insult to the dignity of the House.

He said: “I severely condemn the manhandling, beating and fighting. The people of Maharashtra have given us a mandate and it has been the tradition of this House to work in a respectable manner, despite difference of opinion.”

Speaking to the media here, Mr. Chavan said, “This has never happened in the history of Maharashtra Assembly. It is not a question of Hindi or English or Abu Azmi. It is about the manner in which it was done. All parties except the MNS have condemned this incident.” The State government had decided to initiate a probe into the issue.

“If anyone takes law into his own hands, we will take stringent action. We will check the video footage. If there has been an instance of instigation [on either side], it will be probed. We will see if the incident attracts the provisions of law,” he said.

The MNS was against Mr. Azmi taking oath in Hindi instead of Marathi in the House.

Decrying the assault on Mr. Azmi and the unruly protests, Protem Speaker Ganpatrao Deshmukh said: “While such an incident has never happened in this House, as per my knowledge, it has never taken place in any House in this country.”

The Opposition took a tempered view of the situation mindful of the Shiv Sena’s support to the Marathi cause. Eknath Khadse, BJP leader in the House, said it was natural that one insisted on Marathi in Maharashtra, but work had to be as per the rule of law.

“If we don’t insist on Marathi in Maharashtra, where else are we going to ask for it? In Bihar or Bengal? However, we condemn the assault on a woman member,” said Subhash Desai, Sena’s group leader in the Assembly.

As soon as the news of attack on Mr. Azmi spread, his supporters went on the rampage in Bhiwandi. They burnt vehicles ad destroyed property. Home Minister R.R. Patil said six persons were arrested.

In other parts of Maharashtra, supporters of MNS president Raj Thackeray burnt the effigies of Mr. Azmi.

Speaking to the media later, MNS member Shishir Shinde and MNS Legislature Party leader Bala Nandgaonkar called the suspension of four MNS members by the House one-sided. They denied having assaulted Meenakshi Patil, a legislator, in the House. “We offered our apologies in Ms. Patil’s case, but they were overlooked by the House. It is against Maharashtra’s culture to disrespect women,” Mr. Nandgaonkar said.

He cited two incidents of a similar ruckus once when Bal Thackeray was arrested and when the former Shiv Sainik, Narayan Rane, clashed with NCP’s Padamsinh Patil.

He alleged it was Mr. Azmi who pushed Mr. Shinde when the latter showed him a banner. He accused Mr. Azmi of sending a letter of intent to take the oath in Hindi, with the express intention of insulting Marathi. “No one has given such a letter before,” he said.

When asked if there was no other way to put forth the Marathi issue, Mr. Nandgaonkar said he raised the question even before Mr. Azmi had come to take his oath. However, he was not allowed to speak as he had himself not taken the oath of office. “Our legislators are new and their passions got the best of them,” he remarked.

Mr. Shinde said: “In this golden jubilee year, [Mr.] Azmi has berated the Marathi language. Go ahead and suspend me; I will get elected again with a margin of one lakh.” To the media, he said, “Our sacrifice won’t go waste. We have been suspended for the cause of Marathi pride.” There is no decision on whether the rest of the MNS legislators would resign in protest. The leaders would be meeting their chief Mr. Raj Thackeray to discuss the future course of action.

Mr. Azmi was not the only one who took the oath in Hindi. Amir Amin Ali Patel (Congress), Chainsukh Sancheti (BJP) also took their oaths in Hindi. Baba Siddiqui (Congress) and Girish Mahajan (BJP) preferred English and Sanskrit respectively. However, they did not invite such a strong outburst as Mr. Azmi did.

Had the Congress party spent money on ‘memorials for eminent persons belonging to the Dalit community, the BSP government would not have felt the need for the task’, she said recently.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh opposition chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, ousted by Mayawati in 2007, has vowed to bulldoze the statues and memorials if he returns to power.

‘If the Samajwadi Party is voted to power in the future, all statues and other constructions will be razed to ground,’ Yadav said last week.

NEW DELHI: India’s Supreme Court has forced low-caste political icon Mayawati to halt her statue-construction spree aimed at celebrating the heroes on the lowest rung of the country’s social ladder.

<img class="size-full wp-image-21724" title="Ambedakar statue" src="http://moinansari.wordpress.com/files/2009/09/ambedakar-statue.jpg" alt="Dalit statues are unacceptable to Indians. Dr. Ambedakar's statue built by Dalit leader mayawati. Higher caste Hindus routinely break the statue, desecrate it and have promised to bulldoze it when they return to power

Mayawati, who leads the poverty-ridden northern state of Uttar Pradesh, has stirred huge controversy by spending hundreds of millions of dollars to build ‘statue parks’ she says will boost the status of India’s lowest castes.

The pugnacious politician initially defied the court’s order last month to stop construction of Greek Parthenon-style memorials to political icons of the Dalits — those at the bottom of the ancient Hindu caste hierarchy.

But after the court warned that the state government was ‘playing with fire’ the 53-year-old, known as the ‘Dalit Queen’, ordered a halt last Friday to building and the construction sites fell silent at the weekend.

The court order covers half a dozen sites being developed into memorials to leaders of the long-oppressed Dalits — the 160 million Indians who still face widespread oppression despite legislation outlawing discrimination.

Many of the monuments are to Kanshi Ram, founder of Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), B.R. Ambedkar who framed the Indian constitution and also of Mayawati — whose statues show her carrying her trademark handbag.

The court censured Mayawati for spending an estimated 26 billion rupees (537 million dollars) on what critics have dubbed her ‘obsession’ with building statues.

Uttar Pradesh is India’s most populous state where funds are badly needed for hospitals, schools and other public services.

Mayawati, who has used her caste to mobilise voter support and become India’s most important Dalit politician, has stirred opposition by changing land use rules, pouring concrete over green space and demolishing public buildings to create the memorials.

‘Lifeless and insipid, they fail to move the spectator because they speak of nothing but their creator’s lust for grandeur,’ wrote columnist Amrit Dhillon in the Times of India.

The top court said the state government could not ‘fritter away’ public money on such memorials and promised to examine the ‘constitutional validity’ of such memorials for political leaders using taxpayers’ money.

But the former school teacher, who has proclaimed her desire to be India’s first Dalit prime minister, has denied accusations that she is squandering public money.

She insists that the statues are meant to celebrate the contribution to India’s history of the Dalits.

‘We may look at them in terms of aesthetics and cost’ but for many Dalits the statues are ‘symbols of empowerment’, author Ajoy Bose, who wrote a biography of Mayawati, told AFP.

‘They are a pilgrimage site for many Dalits,’ he says, but adds that if the Dalits believe Mayawati is not doing anything else for them ‘she will be in a lot of trouble’.

Mayawati says nobody has criticised the ruling Congress party, led by Sonia Gandhi, for spending vast sums on monuments to the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty which has governed India for most of the period since independence in 1947.

‘The SP will bring in laws whereby no government will be able to misuse funds for memorials and statues by obtaining the approval of the cabinet and the state legislature,’ he said. Indian icon Mayawati halts statue-building spree Monday, 14 Sep, 2009 | 10:29 AM PST |

Today is Sanjay Dutt’s 50th birthday. Wish him a very happy birthday.

The day I learnt that Sanjay Dutt is stepping into politics I was a little confused; I was wondering if it is his cup of tea or will he be just tasting it to add yet another experience in his already mired life. From what I have seen and heard about him, he is supposed to be a very emotional person who does things for friends, who takes decisions on the spur, and who can be frivolous at times. But, on the other hand he seems to be the ideal political candidate or guinea pig.

If we observe Sanju’s life and career graph and put it in a book or a movie, it will be an instant best-seller. The tough times that he has gone through and the happy days that he has seen have almost always been like a zebra-crossing, starting with his debut movie Rocky to joining Samajwadi Party.

With a successful father and a great dad-mom duo at home he was a much pampered child and he did get his dream debut in the movie industry with ‘Rocky’ which released in 1981. But he started off on wrong note, the movie bombed. His next movie Vidhata fared much better, more so because it had Dilip Kumar being directed by Subhash Ghai. After the success of ‘Vidhata’ he did a whole lot of forgettable movies like Mera Faisla, Jaan Ki Baazi, Jeeva etc.

Sanju shot to fame for his depiction of a guy who goes to Dubai to earn quick bucks and ends up becoming a drug peddler in ‘Naam’. I really loved this movie and this is one of the finest performances that he has given. It may have come naturally to him since he had been through a similar struggle in his personal life. His drug addiction and rehab stories are legendary and then his mother was fighting cancer and finally succumbed to it. All this may have added to his performance. He went on to act in a few more movies which fared in the box-office like Kabzaa, Mohabbat Ke Dushman, Imaandar, Kanoon Apna Apna etc.

Just when he was peaking in his career with hit movies like Sadak, Yodha, Krodh and Thaanedar; and just when he was in the league of Anil Kapoor, Sunny Deol and Jackie Shorff, he got arrested under TADA for illegal possession of arms and ammunitions[AK-56 was recovered from his house] and he was also charged in connection with the Bombay bomb-blasts of 1993. Soon after his arrest, Khalnayak released. The movie was about a boy Ballu who had lost his path and ends up on the wrong side of the law. The movie was surrounded with controversy, firstly because of the movie title and secondly because of the content and of course the infamous song choli ke peeche. The movie portrayed an ideal father who wants his son to come up on his own and live with honesty, whereas the son wants instant success and luxuries of life which lead him to wrong company. People equated this portrayal to his real life scenario, thereby creating a wrong perception of Sanju.

Sanju spent 1.5 yrs in Arthur Road jail. He did confess to the fact that he possessed the arms and his companionship with the other co-accused but he denied any knowledge of the bigger conspiracy. He was finally granted bail, and so started his tryst with jail visits on and off. After getting released from jail, he made a great comeback with movies like Daag, Dushman, Vaastav, Mission Kashmir. He also tried his hands in the comedy genre with movies like Haseena Maan Jayegi, Khoobsurat, Jodi No.1 etc.

Finally, he had his best-time ever in movie industry with success of movies like Kaante, Munnabhai MBBS, Parineeta, Dus, Zinda, Lage Raho Munnabhai. It took him a lot of time to change the image from Baba to Munnabhai, from a guy who had been through rehab to a guy who rediscovered Gandhi; from being careless and ruthless to being sensitive and caring; from being a vagabond to finally settling down.

Sanju’s personal life is also zig-zagged with lots of happy and sad moments. He lost his mother and first wife, Richa Sharma to cancer. His daughter Trishala, from his first marriage, lives far away in US and he does not get to meet her often. While he was in jail, his fiance Rhea Pillai stood by him and she even led quite a few movements asking fellow actors to come in support of him. Once Sanju was out of jail, he married Rhea but that marriage did not last long. They finally called it quits and she is happily married to Leander Paes, the tennis star. Now, Sanju has involved himself in another controversy – marrying Manyata Dilnawaz Sheikh. Manyata’s previous marriage has not yet been declared null and void and she has hopped onto another one, thereby attracting media attention.

He has also estranged his sister Priya Dutt in the process. Firstly he did not inform her about his marriage with Manyata and she got to know of it through a media scoop. And now he has declared that he will stand for election on a Samajwadi party ticket because of his newfound love for Amar Singh whom he calls his elder brother.

People get involved in controversy, but in Sanju’s case he has invited controversy, befriended it and thrived on it. But what is admirable about him is the fighting spirit, never-say-die, never give-up or give-in. He has been through the toughest of situations and come out unscathed; be it his drug abuse and rehab, loss of mom and first wife, jailed under TADA … he has seen it all.

Here is a short summary of events which has finally culminated into him joining politics:

1. a bollywood superstar
2. son of an illustrious and well respected actor-cum-politician[Sunil
Dutt was staunch congressman and a great example of man with Gandhian
principles and of course a brilliant actor]
3. a drug addict who has been through rehab
4. twin tragedies like losing his mother and wife to cancer
5. languished in jail under TADA on charges of abetting terrorism
6. second innings of film career as Munnabhai, thereby making a new
place for himself in people’s heart
7. marrying somebody else’s wife in a controversial manner
8. estranged relationship with sisters and daughter
9. finally taking a plunge into politics

The first 8 points don’t necessarily lead to the 9th point, but he probably is destiny’s child.

NEW DELHI: Hours after the furore in Rajya Sabha over the reality show ‘Sach Ka Samana’ broadcast by Star Plus, government on Wednesday issued a
show cause notice to the TV channel.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry, which issued the notice, has sought a reply from the channel by July 27.

Ministry sources said the notice has been issued as the channel allegedly violated the clause 6 (1) ADIO of the programme code which says it offends the good taste and good decency.

The content of the reality show in question was raised by Kamal Akhtar of Samajwadi Party in the House during the Zero Hour.

He said obscene questions are asked by the anchor of the programme and gave a recent example when a woman was asked in the presence of her husband whether she would have physical contact with another person.

When she said no, the polygraph test said the answer was wrong, Akhtar said asking what impression would be created on the husband.

Meanwhile, I&B Minister Ambika Soni has called a meeting of NBA and IBF to discuss the issue of regulation of content in electronic media post Mumbai terror attacks. MORE ON
