Atlanta rapper Future finally releases ”PLUTO“,  his highly anticipated debut album.  Ironically, Future says “PLUTO” only contains 25% rap…???

For those not familiar with the Astronaut Kid, Future (A-1/Freebandz) recently inked a deal with L.A. Reid to Epic Records, with PLUTO being the first project released under the label. Future held his album release concert at The Masquerade in  Atlanta, where he was joined by special guest Big Boi, Young Jeezy, T.I., Gucci Mane, Rocko and L.A. Reid,  among others, to celebrate the occasion.  Of course members of his Dungeon Family, including his cousin/record producer Rico Wade, founder of Organized Noize (Outkast/Goodie Mob), were  also in the building showing their support for the release of PLUTO.

Obvious highlights of PLUTO include the tracks, “Tony Montana (Remix) (Feat. Drake) and “Magic (Remix )(Feat. T.I.)”; both of which were previously released hit singles that have largely contributed to Future’s buzz, keeping him relevant on the scene as a freshman artist, along with the latest street anthem, “Same Damn Time“, for which the video was released just days before PLUTO debuted, only to heighten fans anticipation. PLUTO  also features guest appearances by Snoop Dogg, R. Kelly, Trae the Truth, and Juicy J.  

Collectively, PLUTO is a solid album and very much consistent with what we’ve previously heard and come to expect from Future.  Lyrically PLUTO offers nothing special, which should come as no surprise, as Future  openly admits to  ”dumbing down his lyrics” due to his audiences’ short attention span.  Yet, with melodic verses combined with simple but undeniable infectious hooks,  Future is able to successfully create what he describes as  “Timeless …Astronaut…Stadium Music“.  For me, the highlight of  PLUTO is at the end of the album with the last two tracks, “Turn On the Lights“ and “You Deserve It“;a self-dedicated claim of triumph for his success, to conclude the PLUTO experience. I believe Future has now reached Astronaut Status!

If you listen to the radio, chances are you couldn’t get away from this song over the last few months. You’d think more thought would have went into this, but most of Future’s videos outside of “Tony Montana” are pretty straightforward and similar.
