AT&T Ballpark Wedding

I was so honored to photograph Melissa and David’s wedding but when they told me their reception was at AT& T ballpark well, how can a photographer resist such a perfect venue? I even got to stand on the pitcher’s mound. The day started at Melissa’s grandmother’s house. Her grandmother was fantastic, even modling boots. She showed me the rosary, hers and Melissa’s grandfather’s. The rosary was made during the war while he was in a trench. I can’t imagine how proud he would have been to see Melissa holding it while in her wedding gown.

They were married in San Mateo at Saint Gregory’s Church.

The church was gorgeous and I was able to find a few nooks and crannies that had the most amazing golden light. It photographed like an old chapel in Europe.

We were off again to AT&T ball park. I had so much fun posing the bridal party in the Giant’s stadium and grabbing kissing shots in the Giant’s stadium. We even got to use the cable cars.

The reception was gorgeous and I chose to go with a more fine art feel to the shots. I hope to photograph all of Melissa and Dan’s milestones and I hope they are having an amazing time at their honeymoon in Disneyworld

We’re excited over here at Rebecca Wilkowski Photography! The Knot recently requested to use one of my wedding photos in their upcoming book, “The Knot’s Wedding Style Book”, due out in 2010.

If you don’t know, the Knot is a major wedding magazine for brides-to-be, and publishes about 250,000 issues nationally.

San Francisco Bay Area Weddings: Just some of the reasons I love photography!

Each wedding I’m privileged to photograph is so unique, and the couples I work with are always so sweet. Not only are weddings a time when people are happy and celebrating, it’s also a time when folks get to let their hair down and have some good fun. And, if you’ve met me, you know this fun isn’t just limited to the guests! I love to get right in and have some fun too! I consider myself really, really lucky to do the work I do.

Recently, I’ve had some people say, “Hey, why aren’t there any photos of YOU on your blog/website”? Well, truth be told, I hate having my photo taken. Yes, I’m a wedding/portrait photographer who hates being photographed! But, as it turns out, it has made me incredibly sensitive to folks who feel uncomfortable having their photo taken.

So, below I’ve killed two birds with one stone: not only do you get to see what your favorite red-headed San Francisco wedding photographer looks like, you also get to see me in action at a couple Bay Area weddings having fun as I like to do. Thanks to Mark at CartoonCity for making me look cute during Sally & Lorin’s Wedding at the Claremont Country Club in Oakland, and to my fellow photographer Mischa for goofing around in the photo booth with me at Camaguey and John’s wedding at Bimbo’s in San Francisco!

St. Patrick's Cathedral/Bimbo's San Francisco Wedding Photography: Camaguey + John

If you can believe it, I’d never been to Bimbo’s 365 Club in San Francisco before! Now that I have photographed a wedding here, I LOVE it and can’t wait to go back. What a great place for a wedding reception! This place is so swank, and full of history. Here’s a blurb all about it, taken from the Bimbo’s website:

Agostino Giuntoli left Tuscany, Italy in 1922 at the age of 19 and sailed to America. He spent five years working his way to San Francisco and found a job as janitor at the famed Palace Hotel. From there he became a cook at a nearby establishment where his boss, Monk Young, was unable to pronounce his name and dubbed him “Bimbo”, the Italian word for boy. The name stuck for good.

In 1931, he and Young, now his partner, opened the 365 Club at 365 Market Street. San Francisco was weary of the Depression, needed some fun, and the 365 Club was there to provide it. The club was crowded with celebrities and stars from across America who were there to see and be seen. On stage, lines of long-stemmed chorus girls kicked high to the music; one of whom was Rita Cansino. Later, we would all know her as Rita Hayworth. Gin was served in coffee cups while everybody puzzled over the optical illusion provided by Dolfina, The Girl in the Fishbowl: She appeared to swim nude in the fish tank behind the bar… you can still find her there today.

When Bimbo’s moved to Columbus Avenue in 1951, the scene got even more exciting, with jugglers, dance teams, stand-up comics, crooners chantootsies, multi-course dinners, and more. Today, Bimbo’s still offers a lot of color and flare for the old and young alike.

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from photographing this San Francisco wedding. Here, Camaguey is getting ready at the Hilton, just steps from St. Patrick’s:

The inside of St. Patrick’s Cathedral is so beautiful! It’s located right in downtown San Francisco, on Market Street, close to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the ZEUM, and the new Contemporary Jewish Museum.

Hamlin Mansion Wedding Photography: Inken + Andrew

Last Saturday I got to meet Inken and Andrew, a really cool couple who’s wedding I was able to photograph when my colleague Alex asked me to 2nd shoot with him. Their wedding ceremony and reception were held at the gorgeous Hamlin Mansion in San Francisco. This reception was one of the most fun I’ve photographed lately….it seemed everyone was happy to get on the dance floor and boogie, including the mom of the bride and the officiant! Here are some of my favorite wedding photos from the day:

After hearing music, but seeing no musicians, I went hunting for the source of the wonderful sounds. Alas, I found them hiding upstairs, with just enough time to capture one photo before I had to run back downstairs for the wedding ceremony to start!

San Francisco City Hall Wedding Photography: Danny + Rob

This wedding at San Francisco City Hall was SO much fun! Danny and Rob were really easy to work with, and didn’t mind my tendencies for shooting details, weird angles, short depth of field, and candids. Oh, and laying on the ground. Yeah, I do lots of that during weddings! In fact, both being creative types themselves, they actually encouraged it. Now, these are my kinds of clients!

Danny and Rob were very open, nice and fun to be around. My only complaint was that the ceremony, and my time with them, was just too short!! I would have loved to had the honor to document them at a full day wedding. Their smiles, sense of style, humor and down right cute-ness made me sad to leave! Special thanks to my assistant Mischa, who brought his great energy and lent his steady hand to get some great shots looking down from the 4th floor!

I just LOVE shooting in this spot: the beautiful Rotunda of San Francisco City Hall.

BoaVentura de Caires Vineyard (Livermore, CA) Wedding Photography: Krista + Tim

As I began editing the photos for this wedding, I remembered something. That is, what it feels like to be in the presence of two people who have so much respect, admiration, and love for each other that it is thick in the air. Krista and Tim are one such couple. Not only did their verbal expression of their feelings for each other bring tears to my eyes, their non-verbal expression and connection touched in me a very deep way.

While every wedding I have the honor to photograph is joyful and beautiful in its own unique way, this one will hold a special place in my heart. Photographing their wedding was a great experience not only because they are a fun couple, and BoaVentura de Caires Vinyeard in Livermore, CA is a beautiful place, but also because their love for each other left me happy, energized and inspired. To Tim and Krista: thank you for choosing me as the lucky person to document your very special day!

There were just too many special moments from the day to post them all here, but here are some of my favorite wedding photos from our day at Boa Ventura de Caires Vineyard:

The grounds at BoaVentura Vineyards are perfect for a wedding. Just large enough for a nice sized wedding (125 people), yet small enough for an intimate feel. And, what a great view….vineyards filed with ripening grapes and the Livermore Valley.

Hotel Nikko San Francisco Wedding Photography: Elissa + Craig

Elissa and Craig’s wedding was a big one…200 guests for the ceremony, and 400 for the reception. It was really wonderful to see so many people who cared about this young couple, and supporting them in their new life together. Elissa was stunning, in both her traditional and modern wedding dresses! A lot of care and attention to cultural detail went into this wedding, and it made it all the more fun to photograph. My favorite was the bobble-heads that the family had made of Elissa and Craig.

I also loved that this wedding was held at the boutique hotel, Hotel Nikko, in San Francisco’s Union Square. Not only does the Hotel Nikko look fabulous and feel like a sanctuary, it is also GREEN! Hotel Nikko San Francisco has been awarded the Energy Star Label in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. They are the only hotel to receive this award six years consecutively.

Mission Santa Clara Wedding Photography: Andrea + JJ

Andrea and JJ were a great couple to photograph on their wedding day. Not only were they friendly, and totally fun, but they really enjoyed hamming it up for both their guests and the camera. I especially loved Andrea’s bright red shoes…..just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz!

The couple wed at the beautiful Mission Santa Clara on the campus of Santa Clara University in Silicon Valley. Here are some of my favorite wedding photographs from the day:

San Francisco City Hall Wedding Photography: Lee + Conor

San Francisco City Hall is a beautiful place to get married, and just lends itself to wonderful wedding photos. This wedding features Lee and Conor, a fabulous couple from Chicago who found me on Angie’s List.

Lee and Conor decided to run off to San Francisco to get hitched, and planned to surprise their families with their nuptials once they returned to Chicago. Now, Lee and Conor have been together for about 10 years, so their wedding wasn’t exactly unexpected. But, running off to San Francisco to get hitched was!

I love it when couples have such enthusiasm and spontaneity! To make things even more fun, Lee and Conor asked me to come hang out with them the day before while they took a tour of Anchorsteam Brewery. Heck Ya! It was a great way to get acquainted before the “big day”.

Anchorsteam (aka Anchor Brewing Company) is a great local brewery that I just absolutely love. They produce wonderful beer (and wine!) and offer free weekly tours and beer tastings! I’d already been on a tour here, and so was excited for another with Lee and Conor!

This is probably one of my all time favorite shots at San Francisco City Hall. Don’t they look SO in love?!

Tilden Park Engagement Photos: Krista + Tim

Krista & Tim are quite the couple! Both ER nurses, they are wonderfully creative and fun! They are really DIY’ers (do-it-yourself-ers), which I just love. From the invitations and place cards to the cup cake stand and flamenco dancing stage, these kids are doing it all! They have such style and presence, and such warm hearts, I sometimes still can’t believe the wonderful clients who hire me. Imagine…I actually get paid to spend time with them! I can’t wait until their wedding in June at the BoaVentura de Caires Vineyard in Livermore, CA .

Wente Vineyards Wedding Photography (Livermore, CA): Jamie + Mike

Jamie and Mike are an incredibly fun couple, and I think it shows in their wedding photos. Their wedding was held at the lush estates of Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA. The grounds are gorgeous, and Jamie was just stunning! I had a blast photographing them, as well as their guests, especially during the reception. This couple knows how to have a good time!

To make the day even better, Jamie and Mike chose Wente Vinyards at their venue. BEAUTIFUL! Founded 125 years ago, Wente Vineyards is the country’s oldest, continuously operated family-owned winery. Today, the winery maintains its leadership role in California wine-growing under ownership and management by the fourth and fifth Generations of the Wente family. Blending traditional and innovative wine-making practices, the winery draws from approximately 3,000 acres of sustainably farmed Estate vineyards to create an outstanding portfolio of fine wines. Engagement Photos at San Francisco's Baker Beach: Sally + Lorin

Sally and Lorin are a fun, unique couple….both with a history in the aviation field. Lorin was a fighter pilot, and Sally was a Pan Am flight attendant. How cool!

For their engagement photos, we decided to to visit the Berkeley Rose Garden and Baker Beach in San Francisco. My favorite photos are the latter, as we got to the beach just in time for sunset….always a great time for engagement photos!
