The shoes that you choose for your wedding have to fulfill a lot of requirements. They need to be comfortable, beautiful, and work with your wedding gown. When high heels are not an option, some brides think that they will never be able to find cute flats; don’t fret, though, because there are actually some great styles out there.

There are plenty of reasons why a bride might decide to wear flat shoes for her wedding. She might be having her ceremony on grass or sand, and wants a shoe that won’t sink into the turf. If her fiance is not much taller than she is, many a bride feels like a low shoe is important for the sake of the wedding photos. Or perhaps you just want to be comfortable. In my case, one of my bridesmaids wisely pointed out that I didn’t know how to walk gracefully in heels, and my wedding day was certainly not the time to learn! (It was good advice – I went with the flats, a classic pair of Kenneth Cole white silk flats with a small tailored bow.)

Whatever your reason, there is going to be a pair of flat shoes that is perfect for your wedding. In most cases brides prefer to go with a bridal shoe in a fabric that matches the white or ivory of her gown; there is not rule, though, that you can’t be more playful with your wedding shoes. This is especially true if you are wearing a very full skirted gown, since your guests will really only be getting a glimpse of the shoes anyway. Go ahead and choose a flat in an elegant silver or gold silk, or really be bold and wear a bright red silk shoe (a peep-toe style could be adorable).

One option that many brides like is to wear ballet slippers. You know that you won’t have blisters on your feet by the end of the night if you choose this super comfy type of flat. Real ballet slippers (as opposed to a ballet slipper style of shoe) have very soft soles which over time will form to your feet. They actually are made in one shape – there is no right or left slipper – so you will want to wear them around the house to get them to conform to your feet (otherwise they look funny).

Not every bride embraces the idea of wearing a flat shoe for her wedding, especially those who are only doing it so that they will not tower over their new husband. Even if you are normally a stiletto lover, you can still find flats that are stylish and sophisticated. There are a few wedding shoes designers who specialize in low strappy shoes, like Stuart Weitman (also nice for the mother of the bride who wants a comfortable dressy shoe).

Plain shoes can also be customized to make them more special. If you find a pair of shoes that feels great but needs some pizazz, buy them, and plan to embellish them to coordinate with the rest of your wedding ensemble. Brides love sparkle, and many of them will add some crystal or rhinestone accents to their wedding shoes to go with their crystal bridal jewelry. All you do is pick out an element from your bridal jewelry that you really love, such as a small crystal flower, and stitch it to the toe of the shoe. This is a particularly great idea for brides who are wearing silk thongs for beach weddings. A little bit of sparkle will take the flip flop from casual to elegant.

Once you start looking, you will realize that there are lots of cute wedding flats available. They may not be as sexy as a pair of sky high heels, but when you are still dancing at the end of the night instead of limping like the bride who chose the stilettos, you will be glad you went with the flats!

We were killing some time today and decided to look for shoes. Sergio has been bugging me to get some new sandals even though it’s about 20 degrees (F) outside. He tried on a bunch of different ones and settled for some cheap ones and asks if he can wear them out of the store. I remind him of the weather and add that he may not if he intends to wear his socks under them. He can’t understand how old and un-cool it makes him look to wear socks and sandals. I find this a sin against the glory of shoes and most things. For some reason I am highly offended by socks and sandals. He agrees to take the socks off and we walk out. He immediately starts freaking out about how cold his feet are and trying to get into the car as fast as possible. I feel no guilt in staring him down and gleefully delivering a well deserved ‘I told you so’. I’m sure this aversion to socks and sandals came from my dad being uncool in front of my friends when I was a teenager wearing socks and sandals. So, spare your friends and skip the socks.

Bothered by flies, mosquitoes and other bugs? The best protection from pests is prevention. You can easily avoid insects and the diseases they bring by following a few simple steps.

Here are some tips adapted from “The Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Complete Home Medical Guide.”

Make yourself as unattractive to insects as possible. Black or brown clothes can provoke some insects, while white clothes will drive them away.

Avoid using scented soaps, perfumes, suntan lotions and other cosmetics when going outside.

Don’t wear loose-fitting clothes so insects won’t be able to get in them. Bare as little skin as possible.

Wear shoes instead of sandals.

Keep car windows closed.

If you’re susceptible to insect bites, let someone else mow the lawn, trim the hedges and tend the flower garden.

Garbage cans should be cleaned regularly, sprayed with insecticide, and tightly closed.

When having a picnic, avoid staying near trees with plenty of ripe fruit.

The surest way to get rid of mosquitoes and other pests is to use an insecticide. Of the many products in the market today, which should you choose?

An important point to consider when buying an insecticide is that it should be deadly only to insects – not to man or the environment. Admittedly, that golden rule can be hard to follow since a very thin line separates efficacy from toxicity. While many insecticides can effectively rid your home of bugs, they are also suspected of causing cancer and other chronic effects. The long-term risks of others remain unknown.

The trick, therefore, is to choose the lesser evil. It’s true that all insecticides have the potential to cause trouble if they aren’t used properly. However, some products are less hazardous than others. The information in this article will, hopefully, help you make the right decision.

The most popular insecticide which is seldom used nowadays is dichlorodiphenyl – trichloro-ethane or DDT. It was first used in 1945 and became man’s first line defense against malaria-carrying mosquitoes mainly because it is cheap, effective and readily available.

Concern about its possible carcinogenic effect, however, prompted the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ban the use of this insecticide in 1972. Studies show that DDT is not only harmful to man, it is also an environmental hazard. It can accumulate in fish and affect the reproductive capabilities of birds and other animals. I Shoe Good

There are two types of women in the world: those who shoe and those who don’t.  Of course every woman owns some type of shoe; it is rare to see a woman roaming barefoot in modern day society.  But here I refer to shoe as a verb, defined as “an unstoppable urge which must be acted upon immediately to buy, preserve and cherish shoes”.  Those who don’t shoe should just stop reading now.

If you are not sure if you shoe or not, ask yourself how many shoes you have in your closet.  If your number is less than five and you are not actively dividing your inventory into categories such as heels, boots, flats, sandals and athletic but instead are thinking of piles such as black, brown, blue and house slipper…you do not shoe.

However!  If you’re still debating whether you should start with designers and now are imagining a whole organization system for your shoe closet…you shoe!  You shoe so good that when asked your shoe size you respond with, “doesn’t matter, I will get my feet in there!”  You shoe so good, that you have photos of every pair stored in a fire proof box at a local bank for insurance maters.  Right now just the thought of shoes makes your arches long for the feel of a six-inch Italian-made stiletto.  Oh baby! You shoe good!

I like to think that I shoe pretty good myself, all things considered.  See I am an Island Shoe Girl, a transplant from a land of malls and weekend sales.  A hard day at work or a horrific final term paper in grad school sent me straight to my comfort zone, shoe stores.  My life has roughly three loves; my family, helping others and shoes.  My job brought me to Key West, Fl, where I work as a case manager at homeless shelter, and, for the record, I love this job and the island it has brought me to.  I love my family, but distance is nothing new as my brothers have also branched out across the East Coast.  But it’s a real struggle living over 140 miles away from the continental United States and a Neiman Marcus shoe department.

These days the best I can hope is that a pair of Calvin Klein pumps work their way into our local re-sale warehouse, nothing is sadder than a designer heel with the tell-tale sign of warehouse sales: the re-sale black mark across the bottom so that when you casually cross your legs, the whole world knows those shoes came without a box.  On the plus side, the price is almost always a steal which eases the pain of not having the shoe buying experience that would generally come along with a designer label.

Yes, there is the online dating version of shoe shopping through name brand websites and eBay.  Yes, I have had some success in these avenues; but much like the commercials promoting endless love with only a few clicks, you know it’s never as good a story as when it happens in person.

Certainly it is hard to get the perfect job, the perfect family connection, and the perfect shoes all in one locale that does not permit snow.  So yes, I shop the re-sale warehouse and internet.  Thankfully, after a year and half of being without a “shoe store” other then Payless, a Nine West Factory store opened which eased the pain a little.  While anxiously awaiting its opening, I would press my face against the store front windows like a child trying to peek into Santa’s Workshop to see what delights may be arriving.

To be fair there are “other” shoe stores—the previously-mentioned Payless, an athletic shoe store, and numerous flip flop and sandals shops, including places that sell the dreaded blob of plastic – Crocs.  While I am sure that there is nothing wrong with the shoes sold at these outlets, they are just not for me.  Like the perfect on paper guy there is no thrill

I can never walk away from a good deal on shoes or even an average deal…let’s be honest you have to drag me away kicking and screaming from any shoes even full price.  Which makes the trips to real malls and real shoe stores outside of the Florida Keys all the more dangerous—especially when your friend supposedly providing the voice of reason wears the same size and whispers “do it” behind your shoulder. If my guardian angel does have a voice, it is muffled by her shrieks of joy at seeing a Manolo Blanhik  strappy  heel on the clearance rack.  Choirs from the Heavens belt out the chorus of “Rich Girl” by Gwen Stefani while I add up all the good deeds I did to earn…no wait deserve these shoes.  In my head I am strutting past all those K-mart flip flop-wearing fools as they part like the Sea before Moses, all eyes glued to fine craftsmanship tied to my ankles.   The next thing I know, plastic is flying at the cashier and my toes are curling with delight.  I have to fight the urge to scream, “Yes, I shoe; I shoe good!”

The car ride home is a long four hours over bridges and little islands that make up the Florida Keys.  I am going over in my head how to cut corners to afford the shoes practically baby-seated in the back seat.  First, plan- stop eating.  Second, plan- pick up some extra shifts at the second job I already have to pay for my shoe addiction.  Third plan- no more shoes shopping until these are paid off.  Those plans will remain in place until I retrieve my Marie Claire from the mailbox.  As I place my new shoes in a special, protective glass case, I notice the magazine cover headline raving about a new chunky ankle boot by Gucci.  Suddenly, Fergie’s “Clumsy” comes on the radio of my mind,  “The girl can’t help, she just help it. She’s back in love!”  And I am.

When you purchase a digital 8 camcorder, you are going to be getting the best of both worlds when it comes to camcorder technology. The best time to go is probably November through to early December, when it is dry and quiet.

The smell of fish is something that lingers in the fishing boat, in the kitchen, the pots and pans, in your car, on your hands, in your clothes and anywhere else that is touched by the fish.

It is not a pleasant smell for most people. I know there are those that say they grew up thinking that fish was supposed to smell like fish, but most find the lingering odor after the fish is long eaten to be unpleasant.

There are many home type remedies that are professed to work. Let me list some here for you to try.

1.) Wash or clean with a solution of vinegar and water.

2.) Wash or clean with a solution of bleach and water.

3.) If it is your refrigerator or freezer, empty it and turn it off. Place a container of boiling hot water with a sliced lemon in it. Leave for about an hour. Then make sure all the smelly ice is out of the freezer area and wipe down the walls and shelves with lemon water. Wipe each item thoroughly before replacing in the refrigerator or freezer.

4.) For the refrigerator or freezer, purchase vanilla-scented fridge deodorizer. It is supposed to kill the bacteria so it will put a stop to the odor for good, not just cover it up. Can be found in a good hardware store or supermarket.

5.) For a container, pots and pans or freezer, cut two potatoes and sprinkle some common table salt on it and place in the container for a couple of hours. Then wash thoroughly.

6.) Wash items with baking soda solution. 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of water. Keep baking soda in the refrigerator or freezer where you normally store fish.

7.) For pots and pans try brewing some tea for 10-15 minutes. Discard and wash.

8.) For hands, etc. rubs hands with salt and then wash with a lemon scented soap or mild lemon detergent. Liberal use of nail brush at this time will also help.

9.) For clothes, give them a good soak in NappiSan or any other nappy/diaper soaker.

10.) For the fishing boat, body, clothes and children try “Simple Green”. Usually can be found at your local supermarket.

11.) “Simple Green” can also be carried along on your fishing trip to clean the smell and residue of insect repellent and sunscreen from your flies or leaders.

12.) This one might take a while but is recommended as having worked. If you have had an ice chest leak in the car try covering with newspaper. This can also be used for the freezer problem. It takes a while for the newspaper to absorb the odor but it seems to do so.

13.) While cooking to reduce the fish smell in the area try heating a little bit of olive oil in a pan and adding cinnamon to it. The fish smell will give way to the sweet cinnamon smell.

14.) If you want to get rid of the fish smell before you cook it, soak the raw fish in a little bit of vinegar and a lot of water. Is should not affect the flavor in any way.

15.) For the microwave try soaking a wet dish towel with a squirt of dish detergent on it and then place it in the center of the microwave and run the microwave on high for a few minutes. The scented stem will clean it. Then let air for a few minutes.

Then there are also some commercial solutions. Here are a few you might want to try:

1.) Zielonka Smell Buster – made in Germany out of special high-grade stainless steel. The Smell Buster is supposed to neutralize odors as soon as it comes into contact with air and water, leaving it fresh and clean. Try an internet search to find it.

2.) Several companies manufacture a liquid concentrate which sells for about $3.00 for 1/4 to 1/2 ounce. A couple drops are put on a piece of cotton and placed in the area to absorb odors, in the cabinet or in a room.

A couple of brand names are: “Odor-Away” by Wrap-on Co., available at hardware and hospital supply stores and “Clean-Air” found at some appliance repair shops.

Hospital supply stores carry Dow Chemical Hospital Disinfectant and Deodorant Spray. Spray into cabinet and quickly shut the door.

Hope some of these solutions will work for you to get rid of the fish smell wherever it is a problem for you.

It’s interesting. You walk into this world. You have to make a “self.” When I first walked into SL, it was clear to me that I would have to have red hair. I am not sure what decided this for me so distinctly, but there you go—I had to be a redhead.

I have since diverged from this, of course. I have even worn blonde hair, which was a huge step for me personally. (Nothing against blondes. I just never saw myself as having light hair. I can’t explain it.) And I always go for the easy choice in clothes—red. (Which looks good on me in RL too.) So today, I went the easy route and chose red.

I found this dress at a store on a new sim called Period. The creator, Memai Avon, presented a number of great separates—skirts, tops, tights, leggings. Nothing was outre or niche. She offered simple, inexpensive separates that could serve in many circumstances. I purchased this pretty dress with it’s red rose motif. My shopping partner and I agreed that the flat black through the dress was kind of a cheat (black hides a lot of mistakes and problems), but the dress was reasonably priced and looks great worn, and she has a lot of other great pieces that show quite a bit of skill.

At the same mall we found some spectacular hair by Ilze Erin. Offering several styles that frame the face in a most complimentary fashion, her store deserves attention and I hope we see more from her. I dressed up this ensemble with jewelry from DarionMonkee Levitt. It’s really cute stuff made by a person who clearly has incredible patience.

Maris is a scripter extraordinaire (or knows one) because these shoes have a great hud for adjusting skin tone (a notch at a time so you can SEE what it will look like), nails, and hardware and size. Accessories: Platform round toe pumps, lace-ups and slouch boots. All in either black, navy, electric blue, red, or a combo there of. Colorful handbags, including a graphic printed snake skin carry-all. In the jewelry department, a graphic necklace and colorful stacked bangles.

What we thought: Though this collection was only 17 looks long, Donatella Versace made each one of them count. The body conscious silhouettes were young and edgy, like Versace’s Spring collection. (Perhaps the influence of the Versus designer, Christopher Kane?)

The palette consisted of sherbert and pure colors (both trends for Pre-Fall 2010) and Japanese prints. Hemlines were asymmetrical, often half-pleated. Fabrics were shiny and laminated. True to the inspiration, there was a hard technichal quality to the clothes-with little softness. But the most beautiful looks mixed both-namely the bustier goddess dresses with pleated chiffon skirts.

The best treatment that I found for my white toenails was first taking a warm shower. I did this so I could then easily file back my thick nail. This will increase absorption of the treatment. Make sure if you do this that you do not file the nail too much. After filing, I soaked my feet in beer for 30 minutes twice a day. Beer has anti fungal properties and you’ll be surprised how good it works. After my beer treatment, I applied a natural topical treatment.

This treatment took about two weeks to start seeing noticeable results. I’m sure with a little perseverance and determination you’ll cure your fungus as well.

A large casino is a central part of the Bellagio Hotel site so guests must be over 18 years of age. If fact the casino is so large that you will pass through it while on your way to most of the other attractions on site.
