I was working with a Sandler Trainer recently doing some training of my own on the Sandler CRM Frame

I was working with a Sandler Trainer recently doing some training of my own on the Sandler CRM Framework we had just implemented for them and he was generous enough to give me a healthy dose of end-user reality. The issue was accessing the Dynamics CRM folder structure in Outlook.

For his purposes, he created a folder for every one of his clients. This helped him to organize things in his pre-CRM environment. The only drawback was that to access his CRM functionality within Outlook, he had to scroll and scroll and scroll some more to get to the bottom of the file tree where CRM defaults to.

If this sounds like you– or even if you’re just into convenience, period– here’s a tip.

Microsoft Outlook provides you with a feature called “Favorite Folders” and it’s located right above the Mail Folders section as shown here.

The Favorite Folders area acts a lot like bookmarks do for your web experience– making it convenient to access the places that you frequent the most.

In order to create a Favorite Folder, you simply select one (such as Daily Goals) by left clicking and holding as you drag the folder up into the Favorite Folder area. Release the mouse button and your favorite is created. It’s as simple as that.

For the drag and drop challenged, you can also right click the selected folder and choose “Add to Favorite Folders” and it will likewise move.

When you’re done, you’ll have a quick way to access the pieces of CRM, and the Sandler Framework, that you use most often. The Favorite Folders section can be minimized by clicking the double arrowhead icon on the right across from the section title. You can also revise the order of the favorites by right clicking and selecting “Move Up in List” or “Move Down in List”.

This helpful hint will not only put your work conveniently in front of you, but by not having to scroll way down the folder structure to get to Dynamics CRM and the Sandler Framework you’ll hopefully prevent that dreaded affliction of the right index finger– Scroll-iosis!

One of the key intended elements of the Sandler CRM Framework is the collaboration capability provid

One of the key intended elements of the Sandler CRM Framework is the collaboration capability provided for information sharing. Within the Phone Call and Appointment forms exist a couple of conveniently placed check boxes that are connected to back-end workflows. These workflows Email a summary of the information that you type into the form to either or both your Sandler Trainer and your Manager.

This provides a great way to share information in a timely manner, whether to merely update the party on a situation or to set the stage for requesting some feedback. You can select either or both of the options and the action of checking the box is what sends the pre-formatted message off. Within your user account are fields for email addresses for your Trainer and Manager. A system administrator loads these initially and can change them if there are changes in your relationships later on.

The email recap pulls information from several of the data fields to provide a synopsis of the Activity.

One key to remember is that you need to put any notes you want to communicate in the email in the Notes Field on the General tab. The Notes Tab will accept additional Notes that will be time/date stamped but will not appear in the email. Therefore, you can put things that are relavent to you but not to the information that you want to communicate to the email recipient.

Another great communication tool is the Sandler Opportunity Snapshot report, but we’ll talk about the Sandler CRM reports in another post.

INFO

• Τα βασικά ερωτήματα που ταλάνιζαν τον Τζαντ Άπατοου και τον παρακίνησαν να προχωρήσει στην υλοποίηση της ταινίας ήταν δύο (κι αποτέλεσαν τους πυρήνες της πλοκής): 1. Για ποιο λόγο γίνεται κανείς stand up comedian; Για να ευχαριστεί καθημερινά το κοινό ή για να εκτονώνει τον εγωκεντρισμό του και την ανικανότητά του να επικοινωνεί με ανθρώπους υπό οποιεσδήποτε άλλες συνθήκες; 2. Στο σεισμό του 1994 ο Άπατοου, δεν σκοτώθηκε καθαρά από τύχη, όταν έπεσε η καμινάδα στο υπνοδωμάτιό του. Αυτήν του την τύχη την εκτίμησε για μονάχα 3 ημέρες και κατόπιν επανήλθε στην καθημερινή του ρουτίνα… Έτσι προέκυψε το δεύτερο ερώτημά του: Αν επιβιώσει κάποιος από κάτι σοβαρό, άραγε του γίνεται μάθημα για το υπόλοιπο της ζωής του κι αλλάζει ως άνθρωπος ή απλά συνεχίζει τη ζωή του ακριβώς όπως παλιά;

• Σε cameo εμφανίσεις έχουμε τους κωμικούς Ray Romano, Sarah Silverman, Norm MacDonald, Dave Attell, Charles Fleisher, Monty Hoffman, Paul Reiser, Mark Schiff, George Wallace, Carol Leifer και τον Έμινεμ.

Τoo long (δυόμισι ώρες και αυτό). Τoo επαναλαμβανόμενο. Και too προβλέψιμο.

ΒΑΘΜΟΙ = 6

(keep trying)

Referrals are an integral part of many salespeople’s cookbooks and are an especially integral

Referrals are an integral part of many salespeople’s cookbooks and are an especially integral component of the Sandler post-sell step.

Microsoft Sandler CRM provides a referral entity that can be used ad hoc (from the Sales menu) and that is also built into the post-sell tab in the Opportunity entity. The beauty of the post-sell referral is that unless you populate the yes/no field (shown below) indicating whether you completed this action, the system will produce a Task in Outlook reminding you to do so.

Whether it’s part of your personal practice today or not, acknowledging the referring party with a thank you is just good business. Unless I already have a formal agreement in place with a reward system for referrals, I personally like to include a small, relevant gift card in my thank you note. Ahhhhh, but to remember to send the thank you note out…… Fear not! Sandler CRM puts a Task for that on your Outlook list whenever you generate a new referral Lead. These are both great built-in reminders for the organizationally or memory challenged among us and I happen to represent both groups!

Now, some might say “Our procedure doesn’t include asking for the referral at post-sell. We do it at this time because of fill in your reason“. That’s fine and here’s your adaptation for that. Say you typically wait X time after closing the deal before requesting referrals. When the reminder pops up in Outlook, just open it, change the date due and any other characteristics you want, then save and close it. It has now conformed to “your” system.

Lastly, don’t forget the back-end value of this process and the data fields that you’ve populated. The Lead Source picklist on the Details tab of the Lead form is another way to designate what category the referral came from (i.e. client, partner, vendor, etc.). With all this information, you can now run reports on where your referrals are coming from, how many you’re getting in a given period, and with the On Premise version of CRM just about any permutation of query variables that you want.

So, dust off those thank you notes and make sure your referral process is using Sandler CRM to its fullest.

Finding the path of least resistance is part of the “art” of being a salesperson….

Finding the path of least resistance is part of the “art” of being a salesperson….. isn’t it?

Translating that idea to CRM usage, the fewer clicks I can make to do what I need to do, the happier I am– and one way I’ve determined to do this has to do with the Up Front Contract entity that permeates the Sandler CRM Framework. The UFC entity is present on every tab in the Opportunity form, as well as several of the Activity types.

Typically, when I’ve completed one activity– say a phone call– and then wanted to create a subsequent activity (other than a meeting), I’ve closed the current activity and then created a new one. But doesn’t it go without saying that if I completed an activity, then I should have created a UFC for whatever the next step is?? That’s why we included the UFC entity on the Activity forms the way we did. If you go ahead and populate the UFC fields on the form, CRM automatically places a Task within Outlook that will show up on your to-d0 list for the day you set. This was one of the original intents of the UFC entity in the first place– to remind you of when the UFC agreement was supposed to culminate so that you could make sure the agreement was fulfilled!

So, instead of opening up a new Activity to create standard follow-ups (i.e. determine if prospect’s pain has moved from future to present), use the UFC entity right there on the form and the Outlook task will already be completed for you at the same time. This avoids the extra step, serves pretty much the identical purpose for these routine qualification processes, and takes advantage of the built-in functionality instead of doing it manually.

28th of August, 2009 Day 2 outside the bedroom. Uncool. I went over to our neighbors (all the houses

28th of August, 2009
Day 2 outside the bedroom. Uncool. I went over to our neighbors (all the houses are the same in this estate) who I’d never met before and explained my woeful story, and asked if I could check if any of the keys in their doors would fit my bedroom lock? Maybe the corresponding bedroom in their house? They were really nice about it, but no luck. They couldn’t find half the door keys, sadly. The lady of the house explained that they had taken they keys out of most of the doors in case one of the kids might lock themselves in or what not. I wish my mother had taken my keys off me, then I wouldn’t be in this lil’ pickle. Oh well, it makes for full “Something New” entries, however dull the subject may be.
What I learned today, however, is that Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler used to be room-mates (or is it roomates?). I saw Funny People today. I really liked it. I love all the main characters, and there were some great laughs. I saw a review on Teletext that only gave it 2 stars and a bad review. It may not have been what the reviewer was expecting (probably a more Superbad/Pineapple Express (LOVE THEM) type of film that’s jam-packed with one-liners) but that doesn’t mean it was bad. It wasn’t. I’d see it again. I’ll probably buy it someday, anyway. I want to own the full Apatow collection. I’m not even sure if you can get things like Undeclared on DVD, but I’ll get everything else. I will. You’d think I’d have more exciting plans for any money I make in the future. Well, I do. I want to go to America. I want to live outside of Ireland for a few years. I want to give to charity. I want to treat my Mum. If I ever came into a lot of money, I’d give it to my Mum. She needs it more than I do. I just want enough money to live comfortabley, and I know even that is a lot to hope for. I’m optimistic, though! Don’t begrudge me my optimism, readers. I’m not being cocky or over confident. I’m just taking advantage of the fact that the world hasn’t killed my spirit just yet!

Have you ever asked yourself that question in the last 90 days? I’m sure many people have asked “How can I increase my sales,” or possibly “I’m so tired of doing proposals and not getting the business,” or maybe even “This economy is so bad I just can’t get sales.”

I think there are basically 3 types of people in sales in this world: 1 – the person that says “I can’t believe what just happened,” 2 – the person that says “I am just going to wait and see what happens,” and 3 – the person that says “I’m going to make something happen.

If you fall into the third type, then you might want to take a look at Sandler Training and find answers to many of those tough questions/statements listed above.

Sandler Training is serious training for serious people. It is not only sales and sales management training, but life training. It teaches a system that works in sales, life, and every interaction with other people.

“But I don’t need sales training.” I know, I know, but you probably also wouldn’t want more time to be with family, friends, or other interests either, and that’s okay. The system creates tremendous return on energy. I can honestly say it has created much more available time and many, many more serious conversations with serious prospects and customers. Listen to my testimonial – Jon Toy FASTSIGNS – and don’t just take my word for it, listen to many other business owners and salespeople – Testimonials.

So how do you get to learn about this? I am glad you asked. Visit www.getano.sandler.com, then call my good friend Ed Staub and his team at Staub & Associates (717-792-9144) and visit with them about Sandler Training and how it may or may not be a fit for you.

What in the world does this have to do with FASTSIGNS? Two things: 1 – I am a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend it to anyone serious about taking their business to the next level; 2 – They are satisfied customers that have utilized us for trade show graphics for their displays, lettering for their wall to display customer testimonials, as well as a recent logo change.

Give them a call today and stop wasting time on proposals and quotes….if that is a big issue in your world taking your time away.

Ok, so I’m supposed to be a “power user” since it’s my product so here are a few tips and tricks for tracking email communication in MS Sandler CRM.

First off, make sure you configure your “personalize settings” to manually track emails in CRM else you’ll have every email in the string of six back-and-forths attached to the record!

Due to the differences in capability between native CRM email and Outlook, I prefer to send my emails in html from Outlook (and why wouldn’t you want to use the Outlook integration for all it’s worth anyway?). When you initiate a new email in Outlook, you’re presented with the ‘Track in CRM’ menu in the upper toolbar ribbon. You can elect to either click the Track button before sending the email or afterwards. If you select afterwards, then obviously you’ll have to locate the message in the Sent folder. Why would you do this? Well, it has to do with the attractive tracking tag that CRM places at the end of the message subject line (i.e. CRM:005634) if your organization has the tracking token turned ‘ON’. You may or may not care to have your recipient see this… and if you track it after you send it, they don’t see it!

To turn off the token, go to System Settings and un-check the box (with Administrator privileges) as seen below.

Remember, the email doesn’t have to be open in order to track it in CRM. There’s also a ‘Track in CRM’ button in the CRM toolbar ribbon in Outlook. In the list or preview view for your inbox or sent folder, you can simply click to track it. By doing so, you are associating it with the Contact(s) involved in the exchange. If you want to associate it with another entity (i.e. Account, Opportunity), you will need to use the ‘Set Regarding’ button instead.

One of the features of Outlook I like to use is ‘Resend’. I use it ocassionally to send a follow-up note to someone who has ignored my previous email. It shows the new note right on top of the old note as if to say “See here, how dare you ignore me!”.

The other use of ‘Resend’ is when I have a lengthy email, such as an html invite I want to forward to more than three but less than twenty people (this is an exact science let me tell you- NOT). Be careful with tracking on these, though. CRM tracks the first one but if you continue to resend it, it keeps changing the ‘associated with’ designation and you end up with only the last person being tracked. Not what you wanted. Be forwarned. In these cases, the better way is to cut-and-paste the contents of the email into a new email and then send it and then track or associate it if you don’t want the tracking identifier in your already too long subject line.

The ‘Track in CRM’ functionality is a vital part of the Outlook integration with Microsoft Sandler CRM. Just take my lessons learned and avoid the time and headaches of figuring this out on your own.

Director: Dennis Dugan

Genre: Comedy

Summary: Two firefighters pretend to be a gay couple to collect pension benefits from the government.

Impressions: I love Adam Sandler and this movie is really no different than anything he’s done before. He sticks with the offensive, outrageous stuff and gives dozens of cameos to people who have appeared in his previous films. There are hundreds of jokes, some good, many bad, but there’s never any endorsement of brutality against homosexuals, which I think is the most important thing to remember. Many comedians make fun of minorities, majorities, skin color, sexual preference, outward appearance… to single this film out would be to say that all the other comedians are doing nothing wrong. This film is funny, and there is an obvious shift in the second half that makes it clear that gay people are normal and should not be discriminated against.

3 out of 5

I saw this film when it opened a couple of weeks ago, however, I haven’t written about it until now. I thought that overall it was a good film with a great ensemble cast behind it. Adam Sandler did a great acting job playing a more serious character. By now I’m so used to seeing Adam Sandler playing the goofball funny guy, that I was surprised at his superb acting ability in this film. I would definitely recommend this film to anyone that is a fan of Adam Sandler, however, if you’re expecting Adam to play the usual funny guy throughout, then you might be surprised and might not enjoy this film. Below is the trailer for Funny People, enjoy!

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of witnessing a miracle firsthand: that’s right, I perso

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of witnessing a miracle firsthand: that’s right, I personally winessed Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann actually act!

While certainly both have put in entertaining performances in such films as The 40-year-old Virgin and Knocked Up, both really shined through in ‘Funny People’, the third film with that king-of-the-awkward-man, Judd Apatow, sitting in the director’s chair.

‘Funny People’ follows the story of fictitious stand-up comedian-turned-movie-star George Simmons, who strikes a stunning resemblance to real life stand-up comedian-turned-movie-star Adam Sandler, as he discovers he will likely die from a rare blood disease.

Simmons, successful, rich, but terribly alone, returns to the comedy club where he got his start in an attempt to self-medicate his sorrow by re-connecting with his roots, but to no avail. With no material prepared and despair in his heart, Simmons receives the silent treatment from the crowd and a ribbing from the awkward and mostly un-funny Ira Wright (Seth Rogen).

Following the harrowing evening, Simmons reaches out to Ira and his comedian friend (played to perfection by Jonah Hill) to write some jokes for an upcoming gig. Ira seizes the opportunity to further his career and leaves his roommate and friend out of the equation.

The story continues to unfold as Simmons, the man who everyone looks to for laughs, realizes in facing death that everything in his life has been empty, shallow and meaningless. The money, the women, nothing has been of real value to him except his one true love, Laura (Mann). Simmons becomes re-enamored with the married mother of two, and upon learning the experimental treatments for his disease were successful, he tries to reconnect in an attempt to find true happiness.

Not wishing to give anything away, as I encourage all to go see this interesting character piece, I will say this: a caveat to those who go in anticipating a raucous, laugh-out-loud farce- don’t. The film is a drama, and delves into some fairly dark places that will strike home for many.

Though I have heard complaints of a little too much length (in more than one area, am I right?) the film is packed with so much story that it would be hard to cut anything out. I, for one, am glad they did not.

A lazy Sunday afternoon calls for one thing : the matinée showing of whatever cool movie got release

A lazy Sunday afternoon calls for one thing : the matinée showing of whatever cool movie got released that weekend. For me, it was “Funny People” starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen. In this film Sandler plays a famous comedian / movie star (basically himself) who is diagnosed with a terminal disease – then gets cured; but all the while is trying to break up his ex-gf’s marriage which eventually stays in tact. So there you have it, a pretty lame plot with no real ending.

Sandler’s character is kind of a dick, and hard to like, while Rogen’s character, on the other hand, is a bit of a wuss… and also kind of hard to like. Although the two main stars of the film weren’t that likeable, that doesn’t mean they weren’t funny, and yes Sandler, Rogen, and the supplementary cast managed to spit out one liner after one liner, causing me to fill the theater with my signature laugh… and something about that Eminem cameo made me totally lose my sh*t.

Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman were great supporting characters and added some much needed comic relief to this… comedy?…

It’s been said before that Judd Apatow (writer/director) needs to shorten his movies, and “Funny People” was no exception, running a whopping 2.4 hours.

To conclude I’ll put it like this: “Funny People” is like if “Knocked Up”, “Super Bad” and “Big Daddy” had a threesome – and “Knocked Up” got pregnant, and gave birth to a less cool version of all three movies combined.

Today I spent the 4th of July with two of my best friends, Steven and Shaun Sandler. We went out in

Today I spent the 4th of July with two of my best friends, Steven and Shaun Sandler. We went out in the streets and lit off more fireworks than I ever thought possible for one group of people to even own. During one crazy session of time in which Steven and I set off a large round of “fountain” fireworks, someone called out to Steven, “Steven, why are you setting them all off at the same time? Why don’t you do them separately?” Steven replied “The bigger the moment the better.” Then he turned to me with this goofy look on his face and said “Hey, that applies to fireworks AND life!”

It reminded me of a concept that I have been thinking about more than usual lately: living in the moment. Jon Foreman says “The past cannot be changed and we do not know what tomorrow holds, so why worry about anything at all? If we do not live for right now, we are not alive.” Life is about living for the moment – the moment is what matters. Steven unwittingly made an extremely profound statement about life, and a second later, realized his ingenuity: “The bigger the moment the better.”

So often I know I spend large amounts of time worrying about school, college, work, and my life that is ahead of me. Or I waste other precious moments regretting the past – whether it be the mistakes I’ve made, relationships poorly handled, or any other unmentionables. How often this is nothing but a waste of another precious second I could be spending enjoying the now.

This concept of living in the now, and thus being truly alive, is even supported by the Bible, from the words of Christ himself: ”So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” — Matthew 6:34, NAS. How empowering it is, in my mind, to realize that life CAN be so much more full and joyful through the simple application of this philosophy. It brings hope to my heart in more ways than one.

Going back to the image of fireworks, though – is it necessary for every minute to be filled with fireworks? Some might say that’s an unrealistic goal to have about life. However, I imagine that perhaps that IS necessary for life. No matter where you are, no matter what you’re doing, no matter who you’re with – if you’re living for the now and nothing else, shouldn’t that be enough? And if it is – is it as beautiful of a life as a multitude of fireworks? Is it the biggest moment you could possibly have?

In the Pixar movie Wall-E that came out last year, the Captain of the ship Axiom says a line at one point in the movie that has continually stuck in my brain: “I don’t want to survive, I want to LIVE.” Are we living the biggest moments we can experience, every moment, every day? If not, perhaps we’re not living, like we thought we were. Perhaps we are only surviving, and nothing more. Does God call us to only survive? I believe he wants more than that from us: he wants us to wake up, to stop walking as dead men – and to LIVE.

Hoy, película interesante. “Shakes, The Clown” (1991), de Bob Goldthwait.

This subject has come up a few times lately and I’ve received some really good advice from my Sandler (SSI) coach, Casey Coffman, as well as made some determinations during my own forensic thinking.

It’s funny that even though there’s such a tremendous emphasis in business development on personal referrals– when you get one, you still have to treat it gingerly because friends (I’m including acquaintenances- really anybody who has some familiarity with you on a personal level) and business don’t always mix like Kingsford and matches.

My tendency has been to be too casual with the situation and treat the opportunity as if the prospect/acquaintance is in charge and let him or her drive the process. The result has been that I’ve had ocassions where the prospect has treated me with less respect than someone I didn’t know in the first place. Unreturned phone calls and emails. No advance notices. No heads-ups. But the worst part is always when they decide not to give the business to you but are afraid to tell you that’s what they’ve decided. Talk about spinning in the wind.

Casey made a good point when he suggested establishing the guidelines for the effort up front. Letting the “friend” know that you’re not going to treat them any differently than another prospect and that you’re not there to be their friend, but to try and get them the best solution for their business. Ask them if they’re ok with this.

The other big thing I need to start doing up-front is giving them permission to say no. Sitting on a maybe is one of the biggest energy wasters in a salesperson’s universe. Just tell them it’s ok to do it and that it doesn’t change the friendship (if you really mean that). “Joe, despite the fact that Sandy and I could have fulfilled our retirement dreams if I had won this $20M contract with you, we’re still friends and I respect your decision to go with the no-name company that lied to you to get your business.”

It can be more than financially rewarding to do business with familiar faces. Just don’t get casual with it. If you feel an intuition about something going on, say what’s on your mind. Real friends will at least let you do that.

Lack of empathy. They just don’t get how you just can’t get it, or how someone could struggle with something they never struggled with.

Incompetent competence. They are masters at getting deals done, but not necessarily good at SYSTEMATICALLY explaining how; therefore it’s not very repeatable or trainable to other subordinate profiles.

Wrong, or not ideal, behavioral style. Typical top producers are aggressive (high “D” on the DISC profile), impatient, assertive and don’t mind conflict, and again not SYSTEMATIC. Not good coaching and mentoring traits.

They get bored quickly. Self explanatory, when it comes to the administrative or operational elements of management it drains their energy.

It’s not their fault. The time demands on mid-management today leave very little time for true coaching and development. Reacting to the “fires” alone can fill a 60 hour week.

This profile of sales manager will resort to joint sales calls and selling to prove their worth, which is not all bad, but a true management role should be focused on developing a “best in class” sales force.

Desire and intelligence trumps behavioral style! What does that mean? If you have a manager that fits the four traits above, but has strong desire to become a great manager and is intelligent, they can overcome these traits through awareness and coaching.
