after posting those depavali pictures, i fell asleep. then i woke up and was immensely hungry. so i got up and made another satisfying meal. i finally utilized the new groceries i bought the other day!

a triple decker, honey baked ham with cheese, lettuce and japanese mayonnaise on toasted wholemeal bread and of course an ice lemon tea. top it off with the new episode of community followed by the office and you have a hell of a 3am.

The Scone Witch is a little café here in Ottawa located on Albert Street at Lyon. They do not have a website. A Scone Witch is essentially a sandwich made with a scone.

Upon first glance, it’s a very trendy little place, but is also very small and cramped. When you go in you must to go the back to order at the counter then come up to pay at the cash before eating or receiving your food. You can chose from numerous sandwich types where you chose your ingredients and the type of scone you want. They also have other items such as soups and sides.
You can also order scones by the dozen or more; there was a woman ordering a lot of eighteen. They have dessert scones and lunch scones.

I ordered a Feta Garlic and Herb scone, with Goat Cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and pesto as the toppings. I should note that I’ve never been a huge fan of scones or similar types of pastries. I’ve always found them to be thick and dry. This scone was not dry, and in fact, it kept itself together remarkably well considering the amount of fillings.

It was very good. A refreshing change to your average sandwich. It’s not something that I would eat regularly, because I’m quite certain that there is a LOT of butter in those scones. It screams calories at me! It was very tasty and they were very generous with the ingredients, I didn’t even have to ask for extra. The prices are reasonable and comparable to other cafés. I would say that I thought it was going to be more expensive, but it wasn’t.

I’m still going to say I couldn’t help thinking that my sandwich would have been even better if I had regular bread, but it’s definitely something to try. It’s smaller than a sandwich but more filling. My palate is a little torn, too. I’m sensitive to these things though, it happens when I have toasted sandwiches as well.

I didn’t have any problems with the service like I’d read online prior to going, but I did notice one of the female workers get upset at something, and stormed around with the broom even swearing in front of a young child. I don’t think the mother was very pleased. I can’t comment as to the nature of her frustration.

All in all, I would likely only return if I were taking someone who hadn’t been.

There is just something epic about the radio at Pandora. Generally, when I listen to music, I pop an album into my music player, and let it shuffle songs from that single album till I get bored, 5 or so hours of listening to it later… With Pandora, I put in a set of artists I like, and I get diverse, but similar music back. With my “station”, Rideo, Radio, Run, I asked it to play songs from the base of Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Beatles, and The Pillows. This selection is quite diverse, but keeps the music all close to the alternative rock genre.

Some nice lucidity today!

I was in line at Mollie Stone’s getting a sandwich. From some other space–something like after death, my higher self, or way in the future–I glanced back at my life here, now. “How quaint! I’m in line at Mollie Stone’s, getting a sandwich!”  Suddenly, I was really in line at Mollie Stone’s getting a sandwitch, not just a vacant, distracted shell taking up space.  

What a nice, joyous feeling! To actually show up. It’s a great sense of…solidity. Presence. That perpetual underlying stress Eckhart Tolle refers to is simply not present. (Tee-hee! No pun intended…)

Later, meandering up the freeway, it occurred to me that perhaps I will never be rich.  From this open, joyful space, that was simply fine. All of my life (or so it seems) I have some preoccupation in the background about how I just HAVE to GET MONEY! I HAVE to GET MORE! It’s not something I intellectually, reasonably buy into, but it’s very much there at a subconscious, and often even conscious level. 

To be at peace with exactly, precisely where I’m at, no matter what. Granted, it was a nice day here, and I was surrounded by mostly pleasant people, but I could find a list of “problems” too, if I so chose.  The first one I’d list would be the expectation that my quite enjoyable state would not last, and I’d inevitably slip back into my sub-standard, “normal” state at any moment. On reflection, that’s what happened. But now that I’ve had a stretch of time in that other place, I can feel it, and likely travel back there…at any moment…

First off lets start with saying hello and goodday.  I went to the flea market with my loverboy today and what the hell did we find!  I fucking SNES system.  I’m wicked excited…speaking of that I must find Brian’s myspace right now! *clicks on windows media player*

Okay sent him the request to be friends so I can talk to him about my snes gamess.  He has them all since we were buddies when I lived in new york.  Ahhh how the times change.

For specific reasons,I am so obsessed with the whole idea of having bread sandwitch for breakfast;-)

Mainly,we are too lazy fellows and wake up too late for office.Moreover,having a stomach full breakfast is not a comfortable thing to both husband and wife.So we have light food during that time of the day..We have Palada,Dosas(hmm..the smell of hot ghee is making me drool) and etc etc..I find different varieties of sandwitches and experiment them.Though am a lazy gal,I never serve my husband bread-butter-jam;bcoz I think that will be too cruel from my part.Here is a sandwich prepared in 10 mnts .It tastes different and the crunchy cucumber bites gives a new head start for the day.

We’ll need

Salad cucumber-1 big

Carrot-a small piece

Tomato-1 small

Green chilly-1 small

Mayonnaise/cheese-1 tspn

hot chilly sauce-1 tspn

Pepper powder-1/2 tspn

Salt-1/4 tspn

Cut all vegetables into small pieces.Toast bread lightly,applying little butter/ghee on outer sides.Spread the mix on bread pieces,remove crust if desired and eat it up as soon as possible.

P.S :

• To a sandwitch mix,you can add whatever things you like..
• Serve soon,otherwise the cucmber will become soggy and lose its crunchy taste as salt is present.

Ever wished you could make a quick breakfast other than bread-butter-jam and butter-bread-jam

Well,here is something yummy you can prepare in a few mintues and have a great start for the day..

Enjoy!

You’ld need

Carrot(grated)-1 big sized 

Onion(sliced)-1 small 

Tomato(sliced)-1 small

Pepper powder(white or black)-1/2 tspn

Green chily-1 medium

Mayonise/cheese-1 tspn

Salt-to taste

Add 1 tspn oil to a heated pan and saute all ingredients together(except mayonise/cheese) for 3-4 mnts on medium to high flame.They just need to be half-cooked.After removing from heat,add mayonise/cheese.Spread on bread and put on sandwitch maker for 3-5 mnts according to your preference of how much you need the bread to be browned.Remove from hot plate and serve with salad of preference.

Variations   

•  You can add beaten egg while sauting.         
•  Add cooked chicken pieces .
• If you dn’t mind the extra calories,smear butter on outer portion of bread pieces befor toasting.That makes the sandwitch crunchy.

I like the Corner Bakery. It’s a quick serve sandwich/soup/salad restaurant chain that’s almost as fast as fast food, but with menu choices that are real and fresh. I’ve been to several of their restaurants in more than one state, and it’s the high quality consistency of their food that’s impressed me the most. Until today.

Today I stopped on my way home to grab an early dinner instead of sitting in rush hour traffic. I ordered a scrambled egg sandwich from their breakfast menu and even though they’re not an all-day breakfast kind of place, they didn’t even hesitate to comply with my request. When my order was delivered, though, there were things on my sandwich that I didn’t order. As soon as I walked back up to the counter with my plate in hand, before I said anything, the cashier, Monica, said, “You didn’t want ham!”

Not only did the cooks have to make a breakfast item at the wrong time of day, now they had to make it twice for the same customer. Some very few minutes later Monica walked up to my table with a new steaming hot sandwich in one hand and a big hunk of my favorite chocolate cake in the other hand. (Besides being friendly, apparently the Corner Bakery employees are psychic too!)

What happened next is something I rarely experience as a customer. Monica said, “I’m sorry for the mixup.” No excuses. No justifications. No attempt to make me feel guilty for my unusual order. Monica made a simple, sincere apology, smiled, and walked away. Five minutes later the manager walked up and said, “How is your new sandwich?” With my mouth full, I nodded and smiled while he said, “Sorry about the first one.”

It was Service Recovery 101. They did nothing extraordinary, but it was not an extraordinary situation. Just like with their menu, the Corner Bakery team delivered a service recovery experience with rock solid consistency. They gave me a new reason to be impressed.

What is the measure of success at the end of a typical retail day? Sales? Number of transactions? How about the number of times you give a customer a new reason to be impressed? That’s a goal that any customer can get behind. It’s what motivates me to say things like, “I really like the Corner Bakery!”

Es ist zwar mittlerweile schon wieder mehr als eine Woche her, dass ich mit dem Manu einen Magicabend gemacht habe, aber ich bin in letzter Zeit eher selten daheim gewesen um zum Einträge schreiben zu kommen. Nunja als ich beim Manu angekommen bin, hat alles mit “geht mal einkaufen” angefangen. Ich weiß nicht ob diese meist nette, da aber sardistische Person denn mal nen Blick aus dem Fenster geworfen hatte. Jedenfalls wechselten sich drausen große Tropfen mit kleinen Tropfen fröhlich auf dem Boden klatschend ab. Was uns allerdings nicht davon abhalten konnte loszulaufen loszustapfen. Man hat ja schließlich auch seinen Stolz. Als dann allerdings die großen Tropfen die kleinen besiegten und es aus Kübeln goss uns der Himmel auf dem Kopf fiel, haben wir uns dann doch dazu entschlossen umzukehren und nen Regenschirm mitzunehmen. Also sind wir dann erneut mit Schirm bewaffnet losgestapft, wild entschlossen dem Unwetter zu trotzen und Petrus die kalte Schulter zu zeigen. Wir dachten zumindest wir hätten ihn nun überlistet durch den Schutz von oben, aber ein Schirm für zwei ist etwas knapp und der Regen wurde immer heftiger, was uns dann doch dazu veranlasste, lieber wieder umzukehren… Aber gut, man soll´s halt auch nicht mit Petrus verbocken…

Nachdem wir uns langsam wieder vom Regen erholt hatten, holten wir unsere Magic Karten heraus. Und eine Digicam mit der wir unsere Spiele dokumentierten. Diese Digicam bescherte uns erstmal einen ordentlichen Lachkrampf. Denn die sardistische Person von oben meinte nämlich, dass sie auf keinen Fall in einen Raum geht in dem die Digicam ist und ich meinte dann nur zum Manu, “na perfekt, dann haben wir heute ja unsere Ruhe.” *ggg* Leider haben wir damit kein Video von unseren Magicspielen gedreht, es war nämlich mal wieder zum schreien komisch. Wie immer eigentlich… Das sollten wir allerdings das nächste Mal mal machen. Es war schon echt abgefahren, wie unsere besten Decks alle versageten und aber unsere schlechtesten voll abgingen. So hat zum Beispiel seit etwa einem Jahr (oder überhaupt das erste mal seit seiner Schöpfung) mein Morph-Deck mal ordentlich gerockt und Manu einen schönen “Decktot” beschert. *g* Dieser einmalige Augenblick alleine wäre es schon wert gewesen. Endlich konnte ich es ihm mal heim zahlen, da es normalerweise andersrum abläuft und ich die mieseste Art zu sterben erleiden muss!!! Toll war auch mal eben 20 Schaden tappen… (Manu böse anguggt)

Das Magicspielen an dem Abend war schon klasse, aber wir sind noch zu Switchern geworden. Zu den Ober-Switchern genauer gesagt. Königen der Switcher… (Was das Wort switcher bedeutet, wird in Kaffeeklatsch bald erklärt werden) Wir haben nämlich seit langen mal wieder unsere heiß geliebten und von mir lange vermissten Sandwiches gemacht. Ich glaube wir hatten beide mindestens 2 Zehen Knoblauch auf unsere Sandwiches verschnibbselt. Manchmal muss man sich eben wappnen gegen die Vampire in Manu´s Heimat… Zu guter Letzt darf auf einem ordentlichen Sandwitch das Höllen-Pulver, der Augenlicht-nehmer Cayenne Pfeffer nicht fehlen. Dieses unscheinbare Pulver treibt mir jedes mal Tränen in die Augen. Diese Nebenwirkung nehme ich allerdings gerne immer wieder in Kauf. Diese göttlichen Sandwiches…. einfach der pure Wahnsinn. Wir würden uns eine goldene Nase mit den Sandwiches verdienen, wenn wir die verkaufen würden. Sollten das Rezept (hab dem Rezept schon mal den Namen Mahard Hofeetz gegeben) patentieren lassen und Sandwiches herstellen… Aber da gibt es wohl ein Probelem mit goldener Naser verdienen, denn wir würden die alle selber essen…

Ich freu mich jetzt schon wieder auf den nächsten Switcher-Abend
