Vuelven los Basement Jaxx: Ricardo Fernández Barrueco confirmó la edición de su nuevo disco llamado ‘Scars’, que se editará este año con fecha a confirmar y que contará con una invitada de lujo:  Yoko Ono.

El dúo, creador de exitosos temas bailables como “‘Rendez-Vous”, contará con la presencia de la viuda de John Lennon, y además participarán en el disco otros nombres conocidos como Santogold, Lightspeed Champion y Yo! Majest.

Nos recuerda Ricardo Fernández que los Basement Jaxx se estarán presentando en el Bilbao BBK Live 2009, festival que se realizará los próximos días 9, 10 y 11 de diciembre en Kobetamendi, Bilbao.

Julian Casablancas is probably best known for his work with the Strokes. In addition to singing and songwriting with the Strokes he has collaborated with Queens of the Stone Age, Eddie Vedder, Lonely Island, Santogold, N.E.R.D., Albert Hammond, Jr., Pharrell, Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse and more. He has recently finished work on his first solo album “Phrazes for the Young“. Casablancas seems to ooze talent out of his pores. His solo album is a solid listen from start to finish creating memorizing guitar riffs and tap your toes beats. He has been quoted as saying that he wants to present a “series of over-the-top Disney style shows“. If that isn’t enough reason to see him check out some of his work below.

It’s 3:45 in the morning. There’s only 3 wks of this semester left. And today is Day2 of my mission to catch up on all of the work that I never did throughout the semester. I mean I havent done shit in ANY of my classes. This also marks Day2 of the period I like to call the period of SUCK ASS. Time to kiss mad ass with all my professors…for being late to all their classes…and never turning in their assignments. Shyyaaat!

As you know, because I’ve told you before, music is a huge part of my life. I mean, I know it’s pretty important to most people so I’m not being special or different by making that statement, but ….holy shit. I just feel like I love music more than anyone else on the planet. Literally the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning is what I’m gonna listen to that day. And when I hear a great song for the first time, when I discover that new music that speaks to my soul, it is the most amazing feeling ever. Better than crazy sex, or a fucking scrumptious meal, or even falling asleep on my best friend’s bed that I know for a fact is filled with clouds and rainbows instead of springs or cotton or whatever, its that comfortable. So I think you’ll agree that it’s only right that I should share my love of music with the world by telling you just exactly what it is the Kid is listening to these days, via shuffling the shit out of my iPod and talking about the first 10 songs that come up. Are you as excited as I am about this? No, because that’s not even possible. I’m bouncing up and down on my bed as I speak, making my computer  jiggle. But anyways…!!! lessgooooo

1. I’m a Lady by Santogold—-> Santogold is great. I always love to see a black girl doing something besides R&B. Not that there’s anything wrong with R&B, but it’s just so expected that if you’re a young black female artist, then that’s all you can do. Santogold’s rock/electronica/new wave/pop/ genre bending will show you haters. And this happens to be one of my favorite songs of hers. I believe she’s talking about fucking with someone elses boyfriend and then realizing she’s too hot and classy to be doing something so shameful and ending it,  but maybe that’s just me projecting my personal experiences.

2. Mr. Me Too by the Clipse——> OMG do I love the Thornton bros. They make intelligent dopeboy music, which is all anyone could ask for, right?  “Mr. Me Too”  is a sharp ass song, because it talks about one of my personal pet peeves: bandwagon hop-on bitches and bastards who claim whatever is the hot new trend. “Yup, Ok, we get it, yeah you too. Come on everybody, and meet Mr. Me Too” . That’s what Pusha T said to their wack asses. And it’s over a signature futuritic-bounce Neptunes beat, so what the fuck is not to love?

3. Beautiful World by Coldplay—–> look, I know people make fun of Coldplay for being wimpy and using gay piano chords way too much, but I love them and I think Chris Martin is kinda dreamy, so y’all can fuck right on off. That said, the combination of acoustic strings cut by sharp pulsing guitar lines on “Beautiful World” has a strange depressing effect, so even though Chris is telling me that we’re living in a beautiful world and life is worth the trouble, I still feel a little bit like cutting my hair sideways and wearing 3 pounds of eyeliner after hearing this. Really good song though.

4. Real Love by Mary J. Blige- MJB you guys! She’s the queen of making songs that both make you wanna cry and key the shit out of your ex’s car. This song is an R&B classic, everyone loves it and if you don’t then you’re not really a person. It’s kind of the opposite of the Coldplay song, because it has a nice bouncy bass beat that samples old school hip hop duo Audio Two with a synth line that kind of makes you think of carousel music at the fair or something, but then Mary is mourning in her soulful pain filled voice about how her heart got broken and now she has to start all over looking for something she thought she already had. And that something was real love. The relatability is killing me man

5. The Most Beautiful Girl in the World by Prince—–> Oh man. Everybody already knows I love Prince unconditionally, and could sit there and listen to him talk about nasty, freaky, unspeakable things all day long baby. This song, however, isn’t nasty at all. It’s fucking beautiful. The Purpled One crooning in his crazy falsetto “Could you be the most beautiful girl in the world? It’s plain to see that you’re the reason God made a girl” just does things to me. If any of my boyfriends thought to play that for me romantically on my birthday or something, they would have most definitely gotten the business as soon as the song ended. And then I woulda wifed that ass up. Really, it’s that serious

Ok, I know I said ten, but this takes way longer and requires much more thought than you could imagine, plus I’m a liar.  So I’ll just do part II tomorrow, I think that’s best for everybody. Thanks you guys, this was great. *chucks that deuce*

I’m not going to even talk about that ex-beauty queen that can’t make it through an interview. On to other blondes with better communication skills, this was definitely the week of Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga made an appearance too. Swift certainly stole the show on Saturday Night Live and the coveted Entertainer of the Year Award at the Country Music Awards this week. I admit that this non-country music fan has a soft spot for Swift. How can you not? Every since the first time I heard about her two years ago, this teenager has managed to remain just that, a teen. She is never over sexualized or stumbling out of clubs at two in the morning. She is more of normal teen than most normal teens. I know she has a lot of time left to screw it all up, but so far she has been able to avoid the pop-princess fate that has claimed the careers of Britney, Lindsay, and now Miley. I like Taylor because she is being herself. And I like Lady Gaga for the same reason. Her new video “Bad Romance,“ the first single off her new album Fame Monster, debut on MySpace on Monday. The song and video pick up where Paparazzi and the MTV VMA performance left off. I know people think she is just too weird and have gotten lost in that sex-change rumor, but here’s the deal: Lady Gaga is an artist and art usually has a message behind it. Gaga is projecting some major messages about fame and celebrity in America. We should really be listening. Her latest video may seem like a kinky homage to co-dependant relationships, but it’s a warning that we have blurred the lines of fame and it’s destroying us. I concur. For the good of society, we could all do with a little less Speidi. Don’t you think?

And now a Band of the Week who is also just being herself…Amanda Blank!

Amanda Blank is a rapper and singer from Philadelphia. I just discovered her recently and I am loving her tracks. You must check out the explicit “Lemme Get Some.” Also, check out her version of “Might Like You Better.”  If you’re looking for something a little less explicit, check out Santogold’s version of LL Cool J’s “I Need Love” featuring Blank called “I’m a Lady.” She also has a couple tracks worth a listen with Spank Rock, MIA, and Lykke Li. Her album I Love You is out now, but, on November 13, Blank goes on tour with the original nasty girl Peaches.

Santogold – I’m A Lady (Diplo Mix Ft. Amanda Blank)

In the tradition of rather cool commercials you don’t actually flick off when they pop up on your screen, it is pretty safe to say Converse has developed a good track record of bringing remotely good musicians together for fun mini projects. “My Drive Thru,” dating back about a year, is a funky mash-up between N.E.R.D, Julian Casablancas, and Santigold, marking the brand’s Century celebration.

The song, produced by Pharrell, is accompanied by a music video (above) featuring the three artists in their best “cutouts.”  While this video is a fun view, it was only a start of the campaign that included indie favorites such as Kid Sister, YACHT, Bradford Cox, members of Gallows, The Fiery Furnaces, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, and Care Bears on Fire, all endorsing the iconic brand.

BDO: probably the biggest music festival in the country, sells out in most states before the second lineup is released, Jan 17-Jan31st. It was a bit tragic that they didn’t end up pulling through with David Bowie, but they did get Muse, Lilly Allen, Groove Armada, Mars Volta, Ladyhawke, Kasabian, Midnight Juggernauts, and one of the best live acts I’ve ever seen, Peaches!

Peaches- Billionaire

Field Day: In Syndey on New years day, even after a huge night out, Fuzzy never fail to give people to get right back up and get their party on again. This year highlights include 2 Many DJs, Fake Blood, Datarock, Proxy, Sinden, Fred Falke, Amanda Blank, Treasure Fingers and Juan Maclean for the first time Australia.

To be honest, Dave, these questions have just never come to mind.  I have just never spent sixteen hours straight in a haze of suffering, seeking resources within myself to arrive at a point where I could either eat, write or read something edifying and that would advance me to those carrots of which donkeys so often bray.  So, I’m gonna have to give it some thought and get back to you later in the day, once I’m done rolling through the prestigious and linear investigations that must occupy the next few hours of my time.

With that, however, I leave you with one small question.  Which do you think is better:  This video, or watching one of the better episodes of the Avengers (Diana Rigg edition) while eating gelato at Capogiro?

Many dope DJs and producers have been rolling through Hong Kong on their Asian tours lately. It’s been a special pleasure to host and tourguide the legendary Sinden last week, as he’s not only one of the UK’s hottest DJs, producers and remixers of these times, but also one of the most humble, modest and friendly chaps in this biz, plus a true inspiration. Needless to mention that he ripped Volar to shreds last Friday.

I can hardly think of anyone that’s been out on the scene for as little as 3 years, bangin’ out so many high quality club tunes and remixes in such a short time, remixing heavyweight names such as Basement Jaxx, Mark Ronson, Santogold, Bjork and Robbie Williams, just to namedrop a few. Check his discography. Here’s Sinden’s latest remix, for Jack Splash’s “I Could Have Loved You” ft. Missy Elliott & Jazmine Sullivan. Catchy “Big Room House” at its finest, while still managing to keep that slight “ghetto bass touch” to it:

Ten years ago, struggling musician Esau Mwamwaya said goodbye to his band mates in Malawi and set off to London to find himself a “proper job”.

This weekend, he returns to Malawi as an international superstar – the headline act at the Lake of Stars music festival – the biggest in the country.

His band, The Very Best, is embarking on a world tour to launch their album, Warm Heart of Africa – an explosive blend of pop, afro-funk and kwaito, featuring collaborations with the likes of M.I.A. and Santogold.

It was from this junk pile that he stumbled upon some unlikely treasure.

A customer buying an old bicycle turned out to be Etienne Tron, one half of the electronic band Radioclit.

“Etienne was a regular. He used to pass by my shop. And one day when he came in for the bicycle, he asked me if I do anything else apart from being a shop owner.

It is something of a fairytale. And it all began with a second hand bicycle that was gathering dust in a north London junk shop.

The son of a civil servant, Mwamwaya grew up in Blantyre, playing tin drums in time to his father’s Dolly Parton records.

On finishing school, he failed to find work, so instead joined his friend’s band as drummer.

“We used to play in a place called the Village Lodge on the outskirts of the capital, Lilongwe. That place used to be real hot. People came from far,” he told the BBC.
