It reminds me of tons of books and movies I’ve seen like “Rear Window” (movie), “Stone Cold” (book), the video camera was a bit like “Blair Witch Project” and the sort of way the film is like is like a teen horror movies like “I Know What You Did Last Simmer” and stuff like that.

I like Shia LaBeouf. He’s a good actor.

The bad guy looked kinda like Anthony Hopkins which was kinda scary.

Vince (Rossif Sutherland) is an ex-con on parole after five years in prison for a heist gone wrong. He wants to go straight, but his former boss and loan shark, the dangerously quirky Kranski (Donald Sutherland) reminds him in no uncertain terms that he has a big debt to pay and won’t be free until he pays it off.

Discouraged, Vince resumes his life of petty crime and works days in Kranski’s auto body shop. On the side, he continues with a hobby he developed while in jail – metal sculpture. After a night of furiously working out his frustration and rage with a welding torch and a pile of scrap metal, he collapses exhausted, just as super-hot art dealer Belinda (Rebecca Romijn) brings in her car for servicing. She takes one look at Vince’s sculpture and knows he’s the next big thing. She fully intends to cash in.

Belinda sells Vince’s sculpture for an outrageous price, and soon Vince is the talk of the art circuit. Everyone wants to meet him. Vince is uncomfortable with the attention, but figures he will be able to pay off Kranski sooner than expected. He starts to think about his future, a future that might include Belinda’s beautiful assistant, Kristen (Sarah Roemer), if he can get away from Belinda, who has her clutches into him deep.

And if that wasn’t enough, Kranski finds out about Vince’s new business and threatens him if Vince doesn’t share the spoils with Kranski and his boys. Fed up, Vince and Kristen concoct an elaborate scheme to put Kranski out of business for once and for all – if someone doesn’t get killed first.

Directed by Risa Bramon Garcia (200 Cigarettes).

Appartiene a tutti”.

Fired Up! (2009)
★★ / ★★★★

I had very low expectations prior to watching to this movie because of all the negative reviews when it came out but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Two football jocks (Nicholas D’Agosto, Eric Christian Olsen) decided to go to cheerleading camp instead of football camp over the summer to pursue beautiful women. But as time went on, the two really got into it and D’Agosto fell for their school’s lead cheerleader (Sarah Roemer), despite her having a boyfriend. While its premise summons movies like “Bring It On,” this was actually more focused on the relationships between people instead of the cheerleading stunts and the hardwork that comes with winning a competition. Though I did expect gay jokes because the main characters were supposed to be manly jocks, there was something gay-friendly about them so the jokes didn’t come out as malicious. In fact, Freedom Jones, the writer, put in little twists here and there when it came to the two leads’ relationship; instead of just being friends whose common bond was to have sex with as many women as they could, they had a sort of genuine bromance going on (reflected in scenes when they were away from camp) so I believed that they could actually be friends. D’Agosto and Olsen’s characters were not your typical dumb jocks. They actually had a brain and a certain sensitivity that (admittedly) made me go “Aww.” I also really liked the many different personalities within and outside the leads’ cheer group. Even though such characters could get a little one-dimensional, they provided enough laughter to make such a thing somewhat forgivable. This flick, undoubtedly, lacks depth but if one is in the mood for something as soft, harmless and fluffy as cotton candy, this one is a pretty good choice. If it had been edgier (such as pushing the quirky characters to “Election”-level caricatures, which would make sense because they were in a competitive environment), I definitely would’ve liked it a bit more but it still left me satisfied.

Nothing like a good teen comedy featuring a couple of 30 year olds. Fired Up stars Nicholas D’

Nothing like a good teen comedy featuring a couple of 30 year olds.

Fired Up stars Nicholas D’Agosto and Eric Christian Olsen as a couple of high school football players dreading the prospect of another summer at football camp. In order to avoid another football camp in the heat, they come up with the idea of joining their schools cheerleaders at cheer camp instead, surrounding themselves with gorgeous young women. The guys are having the time of their lives. However, Carly (Sarah Roemer), the head cheerleader who can see right through them, is very suspicious of their motives. Shawn (D’Agosto) begins to fall for Carly and must come up with some new moves to prove his intentions before the all-important cheer competition finals.

I didn’t expect much from Fired Up and I got what I expected for the most part. It’s your typical teen comedy with a cheerleading theme and a predictable plot. It wasn’t quite as terrible as I thought it would be and I did have a few chuckles here and there. Certainly more of a comedy than that Tara Reid piece of garbage that I recently reviewed. The problem with this movie is that it was not edgy enough which got it a PG-13 rating probably to ensure a wider audience. A movie like American Pie was such a successful teen comedy because it was willing to push the envelope. The humor in American Pie was over the top and earned the film an R rating which may have sacrificed initial viewership for comedy but ultimately proved to be the right decision. Fired Up seemed like it could have easily gone this route and been a whole lot funnier but the jokes and gags fell short. The cast does a pretty good job with what they have to work with. Eric Christian Olsen definitely has some comedic talent. He’s appeared in movies like this before, including Beer Fest – a favorite of mine. There really weren’t any other standouts of note in this one.

I judge a comedy movie, not so much on the acting or even the plot, but on how much and how hard I laugh. That’s the number one reason that I sit down and watch a movie of this genre. While watching Fired Up, I didn’t laugh frequently enough or hard enough to give it my approval. Even though I had low expectations going into this movie, while watching it, I felt it had potential to be much more. With a better script and willingness to push the envelope, Fired Up may have succeeded. Unfortunately, Fired Up was just another teen comedy dud.

I give Fired Up 2 out of 5

Let me know what you thought. Leave me a comment.

Source: MTV

Eliza Dushku recently spoke to MTV about her role in the currently shooting Valediction. The film stars Ben Barnes (The Chronicles Of Narnia) as a father in a car accident which leaves his daughter Brooke in a coma, but there’s more to the crash than meets the eye.

“It’s about this young couple and they have a 6-year-old daughter, seemingly in a coma, but [they learn] she’s actually alive and fully living out in her brain, but is just in this locked-in state,” Eliza explains. “So he’s trying to have his daughter wake up from this traumatic experience.” Eliza plays Renee, Josh’s former co-worker with whom he previously had an affair. Josh, who left his advertising gig to settle down with his wife and daughter, is feeling trapped by his life when the film begins — right before Renee reenters into his life, and the accident occurs. “Josh sort of meets up with Renee and wonders what would have happened if he went that route,” Dushku says. “It really is about his struggle both with these women in his life and then with his daughter who’s been injured. It turns into a really psychological chaos.”

The film, described as a contemporary psychological thriller, is directed by Suri Krishnamma (Wuthering Heights) from a script by Ronnie Christensen. It co-stars Sarah Roemer (Disturbia, Waking Madison) as Barner’s wife, Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot), Johnny Whitworth (Empire Records) and Dennis Haysbert (24, The Unit). The script, director Krishnamma and Dushku’s castmates made her want to do the film. “It just seemed to me that there weren’t stories that were about young people but were adults that were dealing with these struggles. It seemed to me like a more sophisticated character that I wanted to sort of take a stab at.”

I have seen two of Shia’s films recently on Sky and I have to say, he plays opposite some stunning leading ladies! Not sure about their acting potential, but hey!

Megan Fox

The first was Disturbia, a story about a teenager living under house arrest becomes convinced his neighbour is a serial killer. He plays opposite Sarah Roemer – wow!

And in the last couple of nights I watched Transformers. I really enjoyed it, I must say, but I am a sucker for action movies. The actress with Shia was Megan Fox, with her famous car-bonnet opening scene. Again, wow!

I think I will have to keep an eye out for other Shia movies – not for him but for the women opposite him. Anyone got any recommendations?
