Today was a good day because:

1. I got a sunflower! I love sunflowers, it’s my favourite flower!

2. I got TOMS- the arch support. Ughhh to die for, although the white Jack Purcells put up a good fight.

3. I went out for the FIRST TIME in days. Life 1, Home infinite.

4. Took good pictures, and took in the Xmas lights at Orchard Road, including the pwning Christmas Tree at Ion. One of those pictures was captured by accident, just as fallchildren was blowing out his smoke, it came into the lens of my camera, and snap! A moment was captured. I think it looked pretty cool.

5. Mustafa was interesting & offer many, many things. There, we found a pair of pants for about $30 to match a blazer we got from the Salvation Army (after searching Chinatown and Town itself). Together, they make a suit!

6. Gained stylespiration from the Sartorialist’s book, which I am too cheap to buy (sorry, poor student, limited cash flow). I now feel inspired to get down to altering my red thrifted gown! If you have the cash (or would like to buy me a present), do pick up a copy!

7. I am drinking Grape-flavoured Yakult! Yakult is awesome & good for your digestion.

Often when I go through the Sartorialist’s shots, I skim through them. Just getting the overall feel of each outfit to decide if I like them or not.

Today was a little different. A reminder that sometimes the details of each outfit are what makes it.

The way the shirt scrunches, the girl’s gorgeous bone structure, hair & eyes, a shirt turned into a skirt (how genius!), the unexpectedness of a Chuck-wearing senior, the cute little bow-tie or tie thrown into the pants-suit (for women)!

In search of a good tie to pair with my suits!

Bad things:

1. Mole factory explosion still needs a clean up. -.- I hid my face behind my vintage sunglasses (which I re-found, so there is a ‘yay!’ in that) for the day, though they came off at night cause I thought it was just too retarded to wear sunglasses at night.

2. My bank account is creeping dangerously close to the cliff…especially as I want to say “Hello sexy” to Muse at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

3. I don’t think I like ‘Women In Love’ very much. While it features good writing and thoughtful content at points, a lot of it thus far feels a little too overwrought. Perhaps I am mentally unable to connect with their strange romance style… Time will tell, if my feelings about the book will change or remain the same.

While skimming through my emails today, I came across the cutest blog. Imagine a kids sartorialist and if you don’t know the Sartorialist, it is a must see! Both blogs post pictures of fashion spotted around the streets of the world’s major cities, their only difference is AGE. Back to Planet Awesome Kid, its truly an awesome idea. Kids nowadays are wearing vintage Michael Jackson Tees, Marc Jacobs and Chanel bags, to H&M and Zara Kids. They mix and match high and low end just like adults, and keep becoming more stylish with time. The pictures are adorable, and I want to submit Nejmah, my first Cairo Muse to their blog. She would be a great addition. I hope you enjoy it like I did.

Tanguero-Outfits zeigt. Was haltet Ihr von der Idee?

I was first amazed by The Sartorialist by Scott Schuman as I passed by it in the Market Common Barne

I was first amazed by The Sartorialist by Scott Schuman as I passed by it in the Market Common Barnes and Noble. Three things caught my attention. First was the size of the book. It’s a squat very thick book measuring 5×7 inches. Then I simultaneously noticed the title and the very attractive young lady on the cover. In case you’re wondering, a sartorialist is a person interested in matters of or related to the tailoring of clothing. I picked it up, leafed through it, and had to know more.

Schuman is a world-renowned fashion photographer most well-known for his work with celebrities and models in many of the most popular fashion magazines. He started one of the first photoblogs to exhibit his desire to showcase the fashions and styles of ordinary, that is to say ‘non-celebrity’, folks. The Sartorialist is an outgrowth of that blog and represents many of Schuman’s favorite and most popular blog entries. There are a few celebrities photographed from time to time but always in daily clothes and according to Schuman’s terms (i.e. his lighting, placement, and pose).

The book is heavily illustrated with photographs along with Schuman’s comments on many of them. Many of the styles represented are unique, not the cookie cutter style of a television show or store chain. That is what drew Schuman to these individuals instead of the people found on a runway or at a magazine photo shoot. In fact, he enjoys photographing the same people over time to see how their style changes or is represented by a variety of clothing.

As a What Not to Wear television show groupie I am greatly interested in fashion as it both affects me and appeals to my eye. As such, I enjoyed this book immensely and would heartily recommend it if you’ve ever given any thought beyond the norm to your own personal style. This is a book you can learn from and have fun with. Page through the book slowly. Make a list of individual style elements that appeal to you and slowly incorporate these into your own life. Then, just for fun, pick out your two favorite photos. Pick one in your own gender that you would most like to emulate. Then pick one in the opposite gender that you find the most attractive. Try not to look so much at physical characteristics, but the personal style exhibited. Maybe you’ll find a style you like worn by someone you love.

Of course, Gen Y fashionistas are not all leading ladies. Enter Raymond Chu, a Taiwanese-American junior at NYU Tisch, and someone whose presence literally emits a distinctive Fred Astaire vibe (and yes, he also loves to swing dance) because of the clothing he wears. He is, in my mind, the epitome of “dapper,” and I’m clearly not the only one who thinks so. Ray has been featured in streetstyle blog The Sartorialist numerous times, as well as in the blog Shanghai Style File, where he’s currently studying abroad, and has been shot for the Burberry Art of the Trench campaign. He’s also done an interview for Style Like U, which you can watch below.

Edit 11/17: I spoke with Ray! To read his interview, click through for more.

how would you describe your style and what influenced it?

My style consists of a mixture of different iconic pieces from different eras. I first started in adventure-style gear in the 1930s, a la Indiana Jones. That’s where a lot of my more casual clothes come from: leather bomber jacket, WWII era pea coats, military jackets, safari shirts, WWII wide-leg khaki chinos. From there, I moved onto sort of Hollywood Golden Era style…think Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, and Bogart- fedoras, heavy wool suits with belted backs, wide straight-legged pants. When I started working at Ralph Lauren and Rugby, my tastes shifted towards modern takes on younger collegiate looks inspired by the era- big chunky varsity sweaters, oxford shirts, slimmer pants, new ties emulating the old style, collegiate scarves. Still with the sophistication of the Golden Era stars, but with a little bit of a rogue/James Dean-y attitude towards how I would wear it. I’ve relaxed into a style that is sort of my own…I feel like it looks less costumey than when I was 16 or 17. You can see the progression in the Sartorialist’s pictures of me over the last 2 years. I suppose you could say my style consists of looking for clothes that are iconic and timeless, like the old movie stars that inspired me. I don’t look for overly designed clothes. I like clothes that are designed with a purpose; the (beautiful) form comes from a functional foundation. A shawl collar sweater looks cool, but I mostly wear them so that I can go out without a scarf.

what kind of reactions did you get from other gen yers (people our age) about your style? both before & after being featured on the Sart and stuff like that?

The reactions have changed a lot. People thought I was eccentric, especially when I first started to wear fedoras. In high schoool, one of my friends wanted to introduce me to his friend and actually asked me not to wear the hat…totally insulted. It seems that most people regarded me as a bit of an enigma at first glance, probably because I was dressing in such an old style at such a young age. I look back at those pictures…the babyface with the double breasted suits and wide fedoras…I totally get why that’d be weird. But I didn’t let any negativity and the hat-jokes didn’t deter me; I thought it was cool….those suits and hats were the equivalent to a rock band t-shirt to me. The Sartorialist and Esquire Best Dressed Man opportunities were moments of encouragement to keep doing what I was doing- very flattered that I was being recognized for doing something interesting. Coincidentally, preppy classic style came back in style at the same time with gossip girl, mad men, and thom browne. Now, I mostly get a lot of compliments and a lot of people ask me for clothing advice. It’s acceptable now- a lot of people are wearing tweed, ties, and hats again. The attitude towards stuff your grandparents wore is different than 5 years ago.

where do you turn for fashion inspiration? magazines, books, movies, music? / do you have a style idol?

Mostly I used to look at films. Wong Kar-Wai’s In the Mood For Love and 2046, Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, Philadelphia Story, North by Northwest, Top Hat, Indiana Jones, Rebel WIthout a Cause, WWII films. Lately, Mad Men has been influencing my style. Clothes are mostly about proportions and finding the proportions that work with your body- so lately, my pants have slimmed down, jackets have been cut a little closer to the body. I also have a collection of 1930s-40s Esquire editorial illustrations on my computer that I look at a lot for inspiration, whether for color combinations or for creating a wishlist. I finally got my camel-colored double breasted overcoat, traditionally called a polo coat, made while in shanghai…that was on my wishlist for ages and I could never find one that fit. Same with a casual gray flannel double breasted suit. My fashion idols used to be Fred Astaire, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, and Indiana Jones. Although still grounded in that ideal, I think about them less these days, and am more concerned about practicality. i.e., I wear jeans now (classic Levi’s 501s, of course).

would you agree that the Internet has made style and fashion into something that’s much more fluid and individualized, just because we now have so many more outlets for it and so many sources of inspiration?

Yes and no…the internet has made it easier for people to show off their takes on fashion and also comment on fashion, but really, the cycle still works the same way. If someone shows something edgy, the vast majority of people will still be uncomfortable to wear it until it gains wider acceptance. I.e., a few years ago, girls weren’t ready to wear leggings, deeming it too 80s or felt that they weren’t really pants, but now, it’s de rigour. Same for high-waisted…it was old fashioned a few years ago (mom jeans?) and now they’re everywhere. It’s a matter of how quickly acceptance is spread due to larger exposure. However, the cycles do move faster now. What would usually have been a 10 year cycle may switch over in 3 or 4 years. Men who were in baggy khakis and jeans have switched to skinny jeans or slimmer fit in only a matter of 3 or 4 years.

what’s the future of fashion as you see it?

That’s hard to say…We’ve entered a time of conservatism for fashion tied to the economy. Either things will become more streamlined and simpler or gain a sort of big, chunky mass-produced quality. Things right now are definitely in a slim mode, so I can see silhouettes probably retaining that slim profile for a while, but maybe they’ll begin to take on a more long-lasting, denser, kind of more homespun quality. And maybe people will layer less…as in I couldn’t afford the nice shirt and the nice sweater, so I spent the money on the sweater because it’ll last longer and probably keep me warmer. But really, I don’t really know…depends on where people’s tastes go and what happens in the world. Maybe faux fur will be all the rage in a few months!

Introducing, the girls and boys of Lookbook.nu. If you know me by now, you know that I have a strange fashion sense and I love visiting websites like The Sartorialist for inspiring street fashion photography. I recently stumbled upon Lookbook.nu, which is a self-proclaimed international “Street Fashion” forum — though in my opinion it’s not, because the photographs on there are usually taken by the person wearing the stuff. (Not exactly ‘found’ on the street). And because people post their own pictures of themselves, that means that Lookbook is 85% vain pieces of shit taking vanity shots of themselves and 15% cool people taking cool pictures of their cool style.

I’m gonna be honest here. I find pleasure in others’ demise. That’s probably why I love visiting Lookbook.nu. Because there are so many I-hope-you-didn’t-go-out-in-that photos to bite your lip at. Of course, I’m not going to say I haven’t had my fair share of fashion blunders.

http://www.livemocha.com

http://www.tweetdeck.com

Download do MSN Live Plus

Download do BitTorrent

Para procurar arquivos torrents o melhor indexador é o The Piratebay.

I saw this scarf last year and literally drooled over it as I tried it on. My friend was busy looking for a cashmere hat for her boyfriend while I just happily spent 10 minutes in front of the mirror, wondering what groceries I could sacrifice to get this scarf. But I snapped out of it since I have two Burberry scarves already. I think I would wear this whole outfit.

This photo is from a new joint collaboration by Burberry and The Sartorialist called Art of the Trench.

I’ve been checking his blog to see if he will post any photos from his Toronto visit but alas, it seems the only subject so far is Sarah Taylor from Muchmusic:

She looks healthy and sophisticated but I mean… Snoozers. The last time I saw her was at The Social. I was there to see Digitalism but I couldn’t pay attention to the band because she was with the most disgustingly scuzziest Vince Gallo lookalike I’ve ever seen. He had on a very low cut tank top and jeans that hugged his sweaty balls. And at one point, she got soooooo drunk, he basically had her unconscious against a wall, with her wrists in his hands and her eyes rolled back. He was throwing her around and basically making out with a corpse. I’ll have to say it made me kinda nauseous. Then he basically dragged her out of the club like a caveman and she was struggling, screaming and laughing at the same time.

But ya, she looks alright.

I love Burberry.

Update: a friend alerted me that Eugene Levy’s son is on the site too as a “random” shot. Booooooooooooooooooooooooo… I’m booing! It’s like asking Puck to do the next LV ad.
