It’s a 25 km round trip, with the upper half of it on the shores of Harrison Lake. Note that this half is not provincial highway, but rather a slow 40 km/h local road (Rockwell Drive).

While the drive itself is slow-paced and not particularly engaging (outside of a few sections along the lake), the area is very pretty. The village has an enjoyable lakeside promenade, with lots of boating and other water activities available. The northern end of the drive terminates at the Green Point picnic area of Sasquatch Provincial Park. Yes – that’s right – it’s the heart of sasquatch country, and once you take a walk in the somewhat spooky forests you’ll be excused if you think something from the X-Files is out to get you (yeah, I know it’s a dated reference, but as far as fitting the “show filmed here” theme it’s probably a better fit than the Twilight series — I wouldn’t want to encourage young fans to get swallowed up in this unforgiving wilderness).

If you don’t mind good gravel roads, you can continue from Green Point to the small Deer Lake and Hicks Lake parts of the park for day-use or camping. There’s also the superb Harrison East Forestry road (be warned: it’s rough gravel and you may encounter logging trucks), and I’ll do a separate write-up about that in the future.

Off-season (and on weekdays) is the best time to take this drive, as the village can become a bottleneck in the peak of summer.

I just got back from a great weekend at Harrison Hot Springs. The town is nice and the hot springs were fun. Next time I go back will be in the summer and I plan to camp at Sasquatch Provincial Park. This photo is from the day use area of the park.

The cherry blossoms have awaken from their winter slumber. I’m keeping the words short today and dedicating this post to my dear friend, Melissa, who passed away after a courageous fight with cancer. She was an amazing photographer and artist (she has taken MANY photographs posted on this blog) so in her honour I am posting some a few of my faves on the camera reel. I will be writing a separate post on how she has been a mentor and inspiration to me (in fact, she was a strong influence for me to start A Beautiful Life). But I’m not ready yet.
