Much like Miley Cyrus’ cameo in the sequel to “Sex and the City: The Movie” was once one a big mystery, we’ve now unearthed details about another thespian’s (this time it’s an Academy Award winner!) guest stint.

In October, People reported that Penelope Cruz would be appearing in the film (which is slated to be released in 2010) as a banker, and while we can’t exactly confirm if her financial abilities are going to be highlighted, we can shed more light on the logistics behind her part. “I’m in it for very, very little time,” she told MTV News during a press event for her next film “Nine.” “It’s a collaboration that I did because I am a huge fan of the show and the movie and Sarah Jessica Parker.”

Not quite satisfied with that tiny amount of information, we tried to get her to spill some more. “They won’t let me say who I am, but I don’t play myself,” she admitted. There’s been rumors, however, that she was seen filming a scene in which she looked awfully flirty with Carrie’s man, Mr. Big (Chris Noth), but she insists her character would do no such thing. “It’s not like that, [but] the scene is with the two of them.”

Ladies & Gents get excited because the author Candace Bushnell is publishing her new book “The Carrie Diaries” which takes place during famed character Carrie Bradshaw’s high school days! So, we are going to learn about Carrie before she was Jimmy Choo & Vivenne Westwood clad.

The book goes into Carrie’s first love, relationship with her mother and how she became a writer.

The Carrie Diaries is due for release on April 27, 2010, just about a month before Sex and the City 2 hits theaters!

Tutti aspettano Sex and the city 2. Dopo l’immenso successo del primo film, pieno zeppo di griffes e di storie d’amore (come diceva la colonna sonora by Fergie “Labels or love”) sono in pieno svolgimento le riprese del secondo.

Le indiscrezioni continuano a trapelare dal set, preda di curiosi e di paparazzi – le scene girate per strada sono ormai di dominio pubblico.

La trama affronterà anche il tema della crisi economica e – forse – di un’eventuale gravidanza di Carrie. Ma a far rumore, per ora, sono le infinite Guest star ospiti del nuovo film delle “ragazze” più amamte di Manhattan.

“Desperate Housewives” star Dana Delany turned down the role of Carrie on “Sex and the City”

Dana Delany has opened up about turning down the role of Carrie in “Sex and the City.”

The actress and multiple Emmy winner, who first hit it big as Nurse Colleen McMurphy on “China Beach,” is enjoying currently stardom again on “Desperate Housewives.”

But the “Desperate” star also passed on the role of Bree on the hit ABC show before agreeing to play newbie housewife Katherine.

Delany told the L.A. Times: “I’d hate to be thought of as the person who turns everything down,” and says she has an explanation for how she goes about choosing roles.

Turns out that the Irish-American actress was simply trying to avoid type casting.

“[‘Desperate Housewives’ creator Marc Cherry] had offered me the role of Bree, but I had just done ‘Pasadena,’ and I thought the role was too similar to that, and I don’t really like to repeat myself,” she said.

“I’ve never ever been in this for the money. I just like to do what challenges me. Thankfully, Marc circled back. That’s unusual in Hollywood. Usually when you say ‘no,’ they hold it against you for the rest of your career. I’ve experienced that.”

The experience Delany alludes to could be her rejection of “Sex and the City,” which she passed on for similar reasons.

“I had done a movie called ‘Live Nude Girls’ with Kim Cattrall that was somewhat similar. It was women sitting around talking about sex,” Delany said.

“[‘Sex and the City’ creator] Darren Star was a friend of mine, and he had joined up withCandace Bushnell and came up with this idea and he asked if I’d be in it. It was very much in the early stages, and I had just done ‘Nude Girls’ and ‘Exit to Eden’ and I just said to Darren, ‘I cannot do a show with “sex’”in the title.’ People will lynch me if I do one more thing about sex.”

If I was to live in a studio apartment this would serve as inspiration for the layout of my digs.

It is the first and only time I have ever begun a news release with the word ‘sex’.

Orchard was involved with a Sex and the City themed party last week, raising money for the Dyslexia Day Centre.

We had been asked to think of ways to jazz up a jumble sale as a fundraising idea. We thought girly, we thought beauticians, clothes, jewellery and handbags. It had to be Sex and the City, combining glamour and clothing with the ultimate girls’ night out.

I think that Carrie and the girls would have been proud. Clobberbox, Joy and Freelove very kindly donated some of their wares and Guernsey’s fashionistas contributed top second-hand designer togs to the cause.

Tracey’s Jewellery had a stall of pretty shiny things and a team of beauty therapists from Shezam painted shoppers’ nails as they sipped their complimentary cocktails.

So the evening was a chance for women to chat, pamper and browse for bargains. And it was a chance for men to enjoy complete dominance over the remote control.

I can’t remember the last time I have seen so many women together. Guernsey Press photographer Steve Sarre and freelancer Chris George both came (at different times) and stuck out quite conspicuously amidst so much oestrogen.

So many women came in fact, that the car park over spilled and people were parking at home and walking back to the Bella Luce.

There had been a few worries. Anyone who has witnessed the mayhem that takes place at the Next sale knows how messy a group of women can get when presented with discounted clothing. But I was impressed with the gracious way ladies went about their shopping. There wasn’t an aggressive elbow in sight

All in all there was a fantastic buzz about the evening and we raised almost £2,000 for the DDC.

This post topic will be the first of many as I am in the middle of flat hunting in Brussels. Now this can be an easy process for many, if your budget is unlimited. However, if you are watching your pennies (& who wouldn’t in these odd times) then you need to be a little more selective. In true drama queen style, everything I face is an “issue” and not an interesting obstacle to overcome. For instance, in Belgium the contract term is 3, 6 or 9 years and normally for my inner control freak that sounds perfect…. but not this time. I am only looking for one year so this initially complicates matters. There are many great areas to choose from in Brussels, from Woluwe St Pierre, Uccle, Ixelles etc etc but the inner Londoner in me has always decided that living near a metro is always the best solution. Regardless of the fact that trams and buses exist to help me travel from A to B – the inner Londoner has not fully comprehended this. So the list I have set myself is a simple 1 bedroom flat (which is DIFFERENT to a studio) in a nice area near a metro.

What single girl in the city wouldn’t want this? How difficult can this be?

The most recent viewing was yesterday. The advert description was “large airy 1 bedroom apartment in an interesting area” which translated to a small room which in total is one room and has a large ceiling and is placed in the late night convenience store area (some of you may recognise this as the “meat packing distract” (SATC)). The door on the front of the building was left open when we arrived and the guy showing us around whilst smoking explained that the owner was very fussy as to who he let stay in the apartment “you see, many families have come to see this lovely apartment (1 bedroom hole) and he is very selective as to who he would want to stay here.” My cynical mind goes into overdrive at this point – is this chain smoking unshaven bloke explaining to me that the owner is looking for a stable renter and wouldn’t mind a single girl staying in the family orientated building rather than another family??? Now although the chances of me having late night parties is fairly slim (tv addict) and I’m more likely to offer to babysit the other kids than stamp on them but still! Thats not the point here!

Other apartments have had the kitchen and sofa(bed) next to each other and a clothes line built into the ceiling to hang their clothes. One was on top of a bar, where the current occupant mentioned “no no of course you don’t hear any noise, its very quiet in this area actually, but don’t try using the garage as the owner doesn’t know we use it right now for our stuff…. WTF?? This hunt might actually kill me.

There is another issue of moving all my stuff – I have standard Ikea stuff, as do the majority of expats in Belgium and I have still thrown out the instructions for the bed and shelves but if I loose a screw between the 2 places, it could throw everything all off balance. It worries me. Hiring a lift, a van, removal men and then enlisting the time and energy of “friends.”

I say “friends” as it has to be a carefully selected bunch of people here, do they have cars? Do they know their screwdriver from a hammer? Can they put ikea furniture back together? (I certainly can’t) Or shall I just openly invite and promise free pizza to whoever actually helps?

Yes I am being fussy (yep you should see me in real life!) and I should probably look for other apartments (after being persuaded by friends) I will look for higher priced apartments (ugh) and I am hoping something comes up soon.

So sorry its been a while since I posted, its been an up and down sort of week and I have only just gotten a chance to sit down with the computer and pen you this weeks note. I am sittting here in front of ‘You’ve Got Mail’ (oh don’t you just love ‘Lifetime - television for women’ and its love affair with Meg Ryan!) and a rather overcooked hot chocolate – a safetly measure as I just found a cockroach (how very NY) in the cutlery drawer and I thought a rolling boil might be a good idea!

As you are aware, last week ended on a sad note for me as my darling Nana passed away (what is up with that hideously euphemistic phrase? she died) which as you can imagine hit me rather hard, I feel incredibly privilaged though that I got to see her before I came out here to NY and say my goodbyes, it makes it all the easier that I had that chance to do that.

Obviously this escalated the homesickness tenfold, and I felt the need for some tea and sympathy (which I know if you had been on the same side of the pond (either one) as me you would have unhesitatingly provided!) so I headed to Tea and Sympathy in Greenwich village – simple really!…however  I had the serendipitous discovery that on a sunny saturday afternoon it was packed, so I headed next door to Asalt and Battery http://www.asaltandbattery.com/ and it was exactly what I needed! It smelt like a chip shop, it had those rickety white plastic letters spelling out the menu, it had sarsons malt vinegar, proper brits behind the counter and the biggest ’small’ cone of proper chips, proper british chips that I have ever had…and it was PERFECT!! best chips I’ve had in ages, on either side of the pond! I think my favourite place on the Fulham Palace Road may have just been trumped! So I sat outside on a bench in the winter sunshine and devoured a taste of home… followed by more tastes of home in the form of a carton of ‘beena, a toffee crisp (I know, I know, but I do slip sometimes and I think I had a valid excuse!) and a packet of polo mints from the Tea and Sympathy shop http://www.teaandsympathynewyork.com/, which was like my idea of a British shop in the 1950’s, a counter and all the goods stacked up behind it… but strangely, no tetley! You can imagine how this appealed to my rose-tinted ‘Darling Buds of May’ view of life! (ooooh, have you watched any of it on ITV this autumn, I saw that they were bringing it back?!). (I just want to add here that on friday night I was dragged out for cocktails by a (forever thanked) friend and her boyfriend to a great cocktail bar with the slightly un-great name of Death and Co…oh the irony!)

My afternoon then continued with a walk through Greenwich and the East Village, passing through Washington Square park where I found this message chalked on the ground..

I thought it was fairly apt!

Saturday night was spent in Williamsburg (so you!) where all the cute guys in NY have been hiding all this time! I visited Brooklyn again, albeit momentarily when I walked over the Brooklyn Bridge and back at sunset on sunday… (here be some pictures)…really reminded me why I moved here!

So I have made a deal with myself…even though I’m on a shoestring, I am here for a year only and I am determined to squeese every drop of experiance/life/magic that I can out of my time here…I have been through ‘time out’ with a fine toothed comb tonight (while sitting in a bar with a glass of wine…major step in meeting people in my neighbourhood!) and found that there are a bunch of things I need to do here….particularly art-wise, there is a Dan Flavin exhibit that I’d love to see, and a Tracy Emin one that I am going to make myself go to as I feel I need to reevaluate my opinion of her work (the same one I have held since a rather visceral teenage revulsion- tempered by a worthy belief in modern art that I have held since her turner prise ‘bed’ in 199whatever!)

This deep water jumping was started on Monday night when I went to my first alone gig….a the Bowery Ballroom to see Cass McCombs – found in TONY (time out NY..just in case!) and which was, I have to say, depressingly soporific, though the support act ‘The Acrylics’ http://www.myspace.com/acrylicsnyc were fabulous and featured one of the coolest girls I’ve seen in years! Hows that for embracing new music!?

I had another ‘only in NY’ experiance with my first visit to the following salon http://www.completelybare.com/ (I had a gift card!) luckily for me there were no burly valkyrie type women in residence but I left feeling a little colder and like I was channelling a certain SATC episode (you figure which one!)…ouch!

anyway my angel, I’ll wrap it up here….sure I have a bunch more to tell you but I just cannot think of it right now…only that as I switched on the TV tonight the first thing I saw was the ubiquitous Mr R. Pattinson in a volvo advert, visit whatdrivesedward.com for more details!!

May 28th 2010 they say is the date of the second Sex and the City movie!

Some rumors:

• Big may cheat on Carrie – well it wouldn’t be his first time
• Carrie and Big may have a baby, who will need an English nanny. Victoria Beckham maybe and perhaps Kate Moss will make an appearance in Sex and the City 2.
• The movie will be filmed in New York City (of course) and the United Arab Emirites, London may also be on the list.
• It appears that Stanford and Anthony will get married in this movie. The producers tried to throw everyone off by putting Samantha in a wedding gown so fans wouldn’t guess the story line.

Well these are just some rumors..and Im not sure how much of it is true, there were alot of rumors before the first film aswell which you didn’t see when the movie came out.
Anyways, I just can’t wait til it comes out on the cinema!
Even though the movies can never be as good as the serie, I still don’t want to say good bye the our 4 New York girls…

Like every other girl on the planet… I can’t wait for the next installment of SATC!!! First off, I’d like 2 say Kudos to the genius behind all the fabulous outfits, Patricia Fields. Everything from the clothes, to the hair, to the makeup takes us on a remarkable fashion journey, a good blend between extremely wild eccentric pieces yet quintessentially relevant.

The first movie was all about the “Studded belt”, who would have thought you could wear them and look cute and stylish. Fascinating how a simple piece can truly transform a look.  And of course the gorgeous wedding dresses. *sigh*

I’ve had the pleasure of working with some characters in my time. And by characters, yes, I am using that as a polite substitute for the C-word. Perhaps its me, maybe I don’t just like people but that can’t be true, here are a list of people I like:

Charlie Brooker
Henrik Larsson
The stylish Glasgow girl who gets off at Roseburn in the morning
Larry David
The person who invented Exel
Tyres from Spaced

So there you go, I am perfectly capable of expressing positive emotions about people but you know, so many of them….well, they are just characters of the highest order. These are some of the people I have came across in all my years of working.

Firstly, the Snooty of the title, she’s definitely NOT a character, in fact, I think she’s kinda cool. Some people call her a character but nah, just because you don’t spend your entire day grinning like a Cheshire Cat with a 10p off coupon for Elmlea, some people can think you are a bit off.

Frankly, people who smile all the time aren’t to be trusted, they are either simpletons or planning something devious. I like it when simpletons plan something devious because it usually ends up in a newspaper or on ITV4’s When Buildings Collapse but this aside, smiling permanently reduces the value and benefit of the times when you genuinely want to smile.

People also assume she is a character because she is a female who dresses smartly, is relatively intelligent (I mean for a woman, she probably isn’t brighter than one of those alarm things which also make you a cup of tea in the morning) and is of just-about above average prettiness. Wow, I’m setting the bar high these days, come the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, my expectations will be limboing lower than a snake with depression.

You can tell that Snooty has intelligence and above average looks by the way that she is able to ignore me easily anytime we walk by in the corridor, that’s actually a good indication of class. So there you go, a far nice C-word than is being bandied about for a lot of jokers I have worked with.

Before we continue to the two real villains of the piece, lets take some time out to mention SuperMo. I’m not sure what her name was as the Mo could easily have been shorthand for moronic. By god, this woman was thick, in every sense of the word but also in the very much worst way, the type of thickness that actually made people think they were quite intelligent.

She kept chinchillas as pets and the chinchillas were regularly able to outsmart her by escaping from whatever holding pen she kept them in. I bet she sneers at all the Dan Brown readers but a woman who spends her spare time reading romantic adventure novels (that’s just begging for an umbrella term – Roture? Hmm, that sounds like something three Premier League footballers would do to an eighteen year old in Aya Napa) and taking the most banal piece of information and then disseminating it to all in an attempt to appear smarter needs to be curtailed.

For instance, clearly the back of a Coco Pops box was dishing out tales of around the world folklore as she was spouting off about she didn’t like having her picture taken because she believed it stole her soul:

A) You have to have a soul in order for it to be stolen.
B) I don’t think many modern people in countries such as Japan believe this anymore, in fact, they love cameras!
C) If you don’t want your picture taken, just say so.

I’m quite handy at avoiding having my picture taken at times. However, this is because I’m not bonny at all but you know something, at least I’ll admit that as the reason. No hiding behind ancient thinking which has since been debunked for me.

Quite simply, if a picture really did steal your soul, I’m sure Sony, Panasonic or whoever would have released a special camera with a net or bucket attached which would capture your soul at the moment of release allowing you to reclaim hold of it. These companies wont miss a trick with their rush to sell products so if they thought they were missing out on sales because of this whole soul stealing malarkey, it would be rectified PDQ.

Cue ironic retort from losers about selling your soul by buying a camera from these brand names…”ooh, look what I can do, make my own pin-hole camera using only a pin and a bit of card.” Yeah? Your pictures are shite, its called technological process for a reason!

Anyhoos, SuperMo didn’t seem to mind having her soul stolen when she visited relatives in Australia as after bringing the pictures in to work, what I originally thought was a manatee in a Hawaiian t-shirt (think Rodney Dangerfield in a blonde and pink wig) was actually SuperMo. So not only is she moronic, she is a liar.

Which brings us neatly to the elephant in the room, conveniently titled Weep (cos that is what she makes people do) for this blog entry but going by many different names in real life, none of them very complimentary. In my time of working with her, I turned into Malcolm Tucker, seriously venomous stuff would spill from my mind in order to explain the sense of bewilderment and frustration that came with working with her. Anyone who can genuinely say they haven’t made up their mind about Hitler needs to be placed away from society’s glare for a little while.

I genuinely could go on and on for days with stories about this imbecile and her fractured grip on reality but in a way, that would then make me the bad guy. There are plenty of people from small towns and villages in Scotland that have a different way of life from me and that’s just swell, different strokes for different folks but believing you are a SATC gal whilst living in a one-horse town where even the horse is a bit simple is a stretch of anyone’s imagination.

The story of being chatted up by pig farmers was hilarious (they were told to jog on as she gets chatted up every weekend anyway, by like real handsome blokes too) as was the incident with the cardigan. Another colleague, being polite, remarked that Weep had a nice cardigan on. Two days later, Weep came in with three or four in all different colours, told the colleague to pick two and she would return the others. Ha!

That’s where being polite gets you, Snooty clearly has the right attitude to life, more power to that girls elbow.

And I could go on and on….but seriously; all you need to think of is Kenny the liar from Pheonix Nights…but less funny:

I don’t know, are peoples lives so empty that they have to involve themselves in everything? Always have to one-up or be able to say “I knew that” or “I knew they were up to no good” to make them part of the story? Thing is, saying it after the event makes me like them even less; they are either liars or choose not to pass on vital information, both of them rubbish situations to be in.

More reasons why she shouldn’t be trusted is that she keeps butting in when other people are talking she has a strong list of guilty pleasures. Guilty pleasures is just another way of saying “I have really crap taste but I feel embarrassed about it so I’ll make it seem like an ironic thing”:

Of course, I have some decent taste as well but there’s an absolute torrent of guff at times but that’s what I like, no hiding behind terms for me! Having to deal with one person like that was bad enough, having it in two consecutive posts….well, its enough to get anyone scurrying to S1 Jobs.

This provides a great link between Weep and Shoebo.

Both were still ruled by their parents until a very late age.
Both were just terrible at Excel (clearly a major crime in my eyes)
Both clutter their desk with tat and pictures of other people’s offspring.
Both are pathological liars.
Both have unique views on fashion.
Both sing in choirs.
Both would consider Susan Boyle or Jayne MacDonald to be the “celebrities” they would most like to emulate

Anyone who knows my family knows that we collect tat and display it around the house; it’s a hobby and makes Christmas shopping easier. One of the things in my mums collection is miniature shoes, don’t see the point of them myself but they aren’t offensive….in someone’s home. Taking them into work and leaving them around your desk is an entirely different matter and when added to the downright rudeness, two-facedness and general nasty behaviour to anyone deemed (by her, not by official job titles) in a lower rank to her, it is obvious why ShoeBo developed an intense feeling of dislike/hate in many of her colleagues.

An outlet was achieved by taking the shoes on various trips out of the office. The passage of time has caused the disappearance of many of the pictures so if anyone has the Glasgow Day out or the “From Paris to Bangkok” (haha, Europop remix) collection, let me know. Again, that doesn’t begin to scratch the surface with old ShoeBo but lets not use up all the stories in one go!

I have been a bit quiet the past few days, nothing further to update and been feeling a bit low so just wanted to give it a few days rest….its not as though people are still reading anyway!

I would also state that I have spoken positively about two people by saying they were stylish, two things about this:
A) Yes, laugh it up, I’m about as stylish as Wurzel Gummidge but with fewer accessories or heads…or friends.
B) Yes, being stylish is not an indicator of being a good person. The Nazi’s wore Hugo Boss suits but I wouldn’t be inviting any of them down to the pub for a pint and to catch the second half of the Sky game.

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Wednesday signed the first major piece of federal gay rights legislation, a milestone that activists compared to the passage of 1960s civil-rights legislation empowering blacks.

The new law adds acts of violence against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people to the list of federal hate crimes. Gay-rights activists voiced hope that the Obama administration would advance more issues, including legislation to bar workplace discrimination, allow military service and recognize same-sex marriages.

Congress passed the hate crimes protections as an unlikely amendment to this year’s Defense Authorization Act. In a signing ceremony in the White House East Room , Obama said that the gay rights protections represented a “long-awaited change” that would protect people who are victimized because of “who they love . . . or who they are.”

Legislation barring firms from firing employees on the basis of their sexual orientation could win passage in the House of Representativesby year’s end, gay-rights advocates said. More than half of U.S. states currently allow employers such freedom.

Obama has promised to push Congress to repeal the military’s ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy that prohibits being openly gay while serving. A Senate panel is expected to hold a hearing on that issue next month, and legislation could be debated next year.

Gay-rights activists also hope for repeal next year of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which would give federal legitimacy to gay marriagesrecorded in states that allow them.

The amendment signed into law Wednesday was named partly for Matthew Shepard , a 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming who died after a 1998 beating targeting him because he was gay, and whose parents were instrumental in leading the fight for such legislation. The law also was named for James Byrd Jr. , a black Texas man dragged to his death in a racially motivated killing the same year.

The measure also extends protections to those attacked because of their gender or disability.
