Preface: I work at a local telephone company that offers dial-up and DSL Internet. The DSL has several different plans to pick from, ranging from 1.5Mbps to 6.0Mbps, different dial-up accounts built into the DSL plan, different number of emails depending on what plan you choose, and it is all unlimited – there is no cap on what you use. I had the 1.5Mbps plan, and last month moved up to the 6.0Mbps plan.

I was blessed recently to be able to spend a weekend with my grandparents, and my aunt. They live in the same house – a house that I visited when I was younger and hasn’t changed that much. I love the house, love my family, but hate the Internet there.

I thought I hated the dial-up service my aunt subscribed to – she lives further out in an ATT exchange, and must be on some pair-gain equipment, because her dial-up speeds were terrible no matter who her ISP was.

So, basically, this Internet connection would have been wonderful ten years ago. It isn’t able to keep up with my web surfing habits, however. Visited those websites lately on a “high-speed” connection? See what I mean? They aren’t bad – they do have a lot of multimedia though, and it just killed my aunt’s connection.

Sri Lanka will acquire satellite technology shortly with the setting up of the Sri Lanka Space Agency (SLASA), a regulatory body for new technology.

Cabinet approval has been obtained to acquire satellite technology, which would be considered an investment for the future.

The TRC will work closely with the Colombo, Moratuwa and Peradeniya Universities to train professionals under phase one. This would help human resource development to build a satellite. The acquisition of the new technology would provide an opportunity for the younger generation to study space technology, he said.

The setting up of the Sri Lanka Space Communication Company would facilitate commercial purposes and enable public private partnership to attract investments. The cost of the new technology would be determined after a careful analysis, he said.

Don’t be slave of your wish. In whichever thing you feel attachment is there distribute or donate that thing.

If you have fear of death go to graveyard and see to those who are dying and tell your self that this is death.

Whatever road blocks you face in coming towards God either remove them or ignore them. Don’t consider roadblocks as roadblocks.

In every situation equanimity yoga should be done.

Mme Ioulia Timochenko, premier ministre de l’Ukraine  a déclaré son intention d’évoquer  les perspectives de la coopération spatiale avec la Russie au cours de la prochaine réunion des chefs de gouvernement de la communauté des états indépendants -CEI – à Yalta, en Crimée en Ukraine. “Nous examinerons deux sujets dont le lancement d’un satellite de télécommunications, le premier pour l’Ukraine en tant que puissance spatiale. Nous allons également discuter, au sein du comité économique, de la participation ukrainienne au système de navigation par satellite global GLONASS”, a déclaré le premier ministre Timochenko et elle a insisté sur le fait que l’Ukraine a la possibilité unique de vendre les services du système GLONASS à des pays tiers et Kiev “offrira ses services à des conditions avantageuses pour l’Ukraine”. Pour ce qui concerne le  satellite de télécommunications, le gouvernement de l’Ukraine  a les atouts nécessaires pour faire venir  les investissements dans ce projet. “Je considère qu’il serait inadmissible pour l’Ukraine en tant que puissance spatiale de ne pas avoir un satellite de télécommunications. A présent, nous sommes en train de réaliser ce programme”, a terminé Mme Timochenko.

This Monday 16 of November at about 7pm I was outside stargazing with my laser in hand. I had not been out very long when I spotted an alleged satellite moving south to north. A moment later I realized that there was another satellite about a centimeter or two at arms length behind the first, following it at the same speed. These 2 objects traveled for some distance across the sky before fading out.

About 5 minutes later I had to rub my eyes as I thought I was seeing things, but as I looked carefully I noticed that now moving from north to south was 2 more objects, identical to the first 2, one following the other moving across the sky. I have been an amateur astronomer since I was 10 years old and as such I have an extensive knowledge of the night sky.  Given the nature of these objects I do not believe them to be satellites. The chances of seeing two satellites following one-another, in opposite directions within 5 minutes are very slim indeed.

Once I had spotted the objects the second time I decided to signal the leading object with a single quick flash from my laser. To my astonishment and joy the object flashed back a single time a bright orange colour and quickly faded back to it’s original brightness, the objects then faded from view.

I also utilize the Heavens Above website so that I know exactly when and where Iridium flares will occur so that I can rule them out.

I believe these objects to be Exoatmospheric Extraterrestrial Vehicles, sightings of which are becoming routine for me since I started this wonderful contact work.

Not long after this the sky filled with clouds and I was no longer able to watch for objects, the sky has remained that way since monday which is leaving me feeling impatient!

In a major rebuff to Tehran, India has refused to launch a satellite for Iran–even though it did launch a satellite for Israel. India has also put a damper on Indo-Iranian relations by stubbornly and persistently bowing to US pressure and refusing to sign a gas pipeline deal.

Iran retaliated by canceling a Liquid gas deal with India. This latest rebuff from Delhi will take its toll in Iran, which may have to reassess its regional policies and perhaps come closer to Pakistan.

Iran says its satellite will be used for research and telecommunications

India says it has no plans to launch an Iranian satellite, a move which would have angered the United States.

“We received a letter from the Iranians to launch a satellite for them some months ago. We don’t plan to give them a response,” top Indian officials said.

Any such launch would be a sensitive issue given that Western nations view with concern Iran’s missile programme.

The remarks from Delhi came as Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki wound up a two-day visit to India.

Iran launched its first domestically-made satellite into orbit in February, insisting its intentions were peaceful. Western governments voiced concerns the technology used could lead to ballistic missile development.

Any assistance by India in launching Iranian satellites could raise American concerns – the Bush administration, for instance, was dead set against an Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline.

India is also more than aware that Iran’s nuclear programme is the subject of great international controversy.

‘Common perception’

Delhi, however, gave due importance to Mr Mottaki’s visit by granting him a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday.

Mr Mottaki, no stranger to India having been a student here, held discussions on a range of issues. He also briefed Indian officials on the current state of play in negotiations relating to what Tehran says is a purely civil nuclear programme – Western governments suspect otherwise.

The Iranian foreign minister also discussed growing insecurity in Afghanistan. The two countries have had a long history of working together in Afghanistan, having propped up the Northern Alliance, along with the Russians, in the 1990s.

“We have a common perception with the Iranians about what is going on in Afghanistan. Where we differ is on the presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan. The Iranians see this as a big problem,” Indian officials, who preferred anonymity, said on Tuesday.

Gas talks

Little progress seems to have been made on resuming a stalled dialogue on bringing a gas pipeline from Iran through Pakistan into India. “The issue did come up in the discussions, and we will discuss it further,” the officials added.

India and Iran have been discussing a pipeline for years

India has long had security concerns about the pipeline passing through Pakistani territory and Tehran has taken an increasingly tough line on negotiations after Delhi voted against Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency back in September 2005.

After the Indian vote, Iran also cancelled a $21bn deal to supply 7.5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas by ship to India annually. That deal remains stalled.

In 2007, India’s then foreign minister, Pranab Mukherjee, travelled to Tehran to make amends for the vote against Iran, telling President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that while India was no Venezuela, it would remain independent in its foreign policy decisions.

Mr Mottaki flew out of Delhi on Tuesday.
