This week I wanted to talk a few of my favourite television programmes of recent years i.e. from 2008 till present day (2012). To be honest there are so many but here is a small selection of them which I’ve really enjoyed. But before that here is a small update about next week’s blog post:

I  haven’t been feeling too well so this is just a normal blog post. However, I will be releasing a Vlog next Sunday (28/10/2012) and this will be something about the environment and wildlife. This is because I haven’t done something related to either topic since the Florida Vlog Series which were released during late August and September 2012. I hope you have enjoyed my other blog posts and Vlogs. Also I hope you all have had a chance to look at my Student Radio Podcasts too (or even my demo)

I have also been told that some of the links from some posts are broken so I’ll be fixing them asap.

Now onto the main post!

So here we go!

First recent favourite has to be the American comedy-drama programme called Castle which is set in New York.

Here is a summary of the programme:

“Castle follows Nathan Fillion (Firefly) as Richard Castle, a famous mystery novelist who has killed off the main character in his book series and has writer’s block. He is brought in by the N.Y.P.D. for questioning regarding a copy-cat murder based on one of his novels. He is intrigued by this new window into crime and murder, and uses his connection with the Mayor to charm his way into shadowing the captivating Detective Kate Beckett, played by Stana Katic. Castle decides to use Beckett as the model for the main character of his next book series starring “Nikki Heat”. Beckett, an avid reader of Castle’s books, initially disapproves of having Castle shadow her on her cases, but later warms up and recognizes Castle as a useful resource in her team’s investigations,” (Wikipedia, 2012).

I have managed to watch Seasons 1 to 3 and currently watching season 4. In America they are currently showing season 5 and cannot wait for it to come here in the UK on Alibi. The reason why I enjoy this programme is because I love reading Crime-drama novels. I have also managed to watch Life on Mars, Inspector Frost and New Tricks (All UK Crime-Drama Programmes) which influenced me to watch Castle whilst on holiday in India.

My next favourite is another American programme called Suits. This came to the UK early 2012 and has been a hit with many viewers. The programme is a law drama and is also set in New York.

Here is a summary of the programme:

“One of Manhattan’s top corporate lawyers (Gabriel Macht) sets out to recruit a new hotshot associate and hires the only guy that impresses him – a brilliant but unmotivated college dropout (Patrick J. Adams). Though he isn’t actually a lawyer, this legal prodigy has the book smarts of a Harvard law grad and the street smarts of a hustler. However, in order to serve justice and save their jobs, both these unconventional thinkers must continue the charade,” (TVRage, 2012).

I have watched all of the first Season and waiting for the second Season to come here on Dave. The reason why I enjoy watching this programme is because of the clever storyline and watching the characters develop as the season moves along. Also I have always had an interest in law and this programme keeps me interested even though it is a work of fiction.

Finally, this programme really needs no introduction but it has been a huge hit across the globe. I am still baffled why the BBC would not show this programme and Doctor Who at the same time this year but it may be for a good reason. Now into their fifth series and it could be their final one (I hope not!), let me introduce Merlin.

Here is a summary of the programme:

“Merlin is a young wizard who arrives in the kingdom of Camelot after his mother arranges for him to stay with the court physician, Gaius. He discovers that the king, Uther Pendragon, has outlawed magic and imprisoned the last great dragon deep under the kingdom. The dragon tells Merlin that he plays an important role: to protect Uther’s son, Arthur, who will bring forth a great kingdom. When Merlin meets Arthur, he believes that he is an arrogant bully and Arthur, likewise, has a less than stellar opinion of Merlin. But when Uther’s actions cause his ward Morgana to turn against Camelot, Merlin must ally himself with the Once and Future King to save the kingdom,” (Wikipedia, 2012).

The reason why I enjoy this programme because it is all about the legend of King Arthur and the beginnings of the wizard Merlin. I have been bought up with the tales of these two and have always been fascinated by it. These have influenced the likes of the Lord of the Rings and other fantasy based novels, films and programmes.

I also have enjoyed a different view point to the legend and currently watching the latest series with much interest.

I wanted to write something that happened on the 11th October 2012 when I was called for a Job Interview.

As you may know that I am an Environmental Management  graduate from the University of Hertfordshire and have a strong interest in Media amongst other things. I applied for the role of Video Camera Operator based in South London just to gain some experience in the Media sector.

I got the job advertisement from my local Jobcentre Plus office and emailed my CV to the email address that was supplied. A day later I got an automated email saying that I got an interview and the time I should come down to meet the Production Team.

I noticed that in the email the postcode was misspelled. I thought nothing much of it but when I typed into Google the address I started to have doubts whilst looking at the area. I also checked out the company for research but still could not find anything.  I talked through with family and on their advice I decided to check this out on the day.

I arrived on the 11th at the address half an hour earlier (1:30 PM)  just to make sure I wasn’t late or anything. I called the number given in the email and this person said I was too early and to come back an hour later (2:30 PM). I tried to explain that I came all the way from Northwest London and it took me over an hour and a half to reach there. But the person didn’t really care and then cut me off.

I met another person just moments later who was also coming for the interview and we decided to check the places out and ask where this media company was based. The address was a lock up for storage and even the staff running the place had no idea where this company was based. We then received a text message stating that the interview would start at 3:00 PM, much later than I wanted to wait for.

The person I met discussed more about how we got an interview for this and as the more we talked, the more I felt that something was wrong. We then went to a coffee shop nearby for something to eat and then headed back 15 minutes before the new Interview time.

When we reached at the address, there were other people waiting with same confused look as I had when looking for the place earlier in the day. They were all applying for the same job and some were really experienced, whilst others not so much. We waited till 3 PM and one of them called the person and was enquiring what was happening. They got into an argument and what I heard was not good. The person who arranged the interview was making excuses over the phone and wanted to delay it even further. This was not professional at all compared to the  other interviews I have had so far.

The guy who called and another person then decided to leave and within 10 minutes the person who arranged the interview came making all sorts of accuses and asked us to come inside this lock up. The lock up was a very small studio and it was very deceiving. By the look of things it was run by a one-man company.

I just went outside just to make an important call to one of the family and explained the situation to them. Then I came back inside and was asked to fill out a form. This was no way an interview and I also closely looked at the form. The form asked me for my personal details including my date of birth and national insurance number. It didn’t feel right at all and thankfully didn’t fill it out where as the others did.
I then made an excuse and the person let me outside; I then decided to go straight home.  It just felt really dodgy and I now double my background checks on companies that I am applying for. For the record I do always check but was shocked that this advert came from a trustful place like a Jobcentre Plus.

I still feel that I made the right decision by not filling in that form and walking away from it. All I can say that it’s a dangerous world out there and there are so many people looking for jobs in this current economic climate. I hope this blog comes not just as a warning but as advice for those still job hunting just to be careful out there.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am slowly getting there with my Minecraft Island Resort Project and thought of sharing a Vlog with what I have done so far . Also I’ll be going into more detail of the project in this blog and talk more about Minecraft and other things.

I started playing Minecraft in April 2011 after several months of watching various videos of the game on YouTube. Minecraft is basically a sandbox building game which  involves players creating and destroying various types of blocks in a 3D environment. The player  can either destroy or create blocks,  forming fantastic structures, creations and artwork. Also this game allows you to play across the various multi-player servers in multiple game modes such as survival, creative, hardcore and adventure.

In regards to the project I originally started a Winter Ski Resort and also was looking at loads of designs. For some reason I wasn’t happy with the way I built it and so I decided to look at other projects for inspiration. Then after several looks at various biomes and Islands I finally found what I was looking for. Here is the link to the seed (-4730482906978961744) for those interested in building a survival adventure map or like me an Island Resort. There are other biomes surrounding the island to explore and I might expand the map with this in mind. Also here is the link to the texture pack I am using.

I am currently looking at changing my avatar skin from Link (Legend of Zelda) to my own creation hopefully soon. I did play in some unreleased videos on my friend’s YouTube Channel called ‘Hardly A Channel’ like in May/June 2012. To be honest I do not know when that will be released because they have been really busy since graduating in June 2012. Hopefully will play as a guest player on their games soon and as they would be on mine.

Hardly A Channel (Jamie, Nosh and Simon)

I am thinking of expanding onto a second channel on YouTube just for the gaming stuff. This is so the main channel just focuses on my Vlogs, Student Radio podcasts and other things. I can also directly link the new channel onto a page on this WordPress blog. I will also make the channel  professional looking (same with the main channel) and the videos will be of higher quality on both channels.
I will also set a timetable of when videos will be released once I find a full-time job and stuff. At the moment I am most probably going to start the Let’s Play Series in mid-November 2012 and not October 2012 as planned. However I might be getting Fraps and a Gaming Headset in the next few weeks and I might do some recording of games such as Minecraft whilst I am saving on other equipment to record Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword on the Wii. By playing other games on the laptop will most probably be a taster of what I am capable of doing a gaming channel and then start playing the main Let’s Play Series. I hope things go to plan (finger’s crossed)!

First, an Apology

I know I mentioned in the previous Vlog and it’s accompanying blog post that I will put up a Vlog review today about the Mid Series/Season Finale of Doctor Who Series 7. I accidentally deleted the video that I was going to use for editing the Vlog. This also included the accidental deleting of the photos I took yesterday in Central London on my camera. Thankfully there was a back up on my laptop for those photos taken yesterday, however the same cannot be said for the video I filmed.

I had thought of re-filming the video again but by the time I got to sit down (around 9ish) it would have been too late to edit and release it before the day ends. I am really sorry for those people looking forward to watching the video today. I hope I make up for it by reviewing the episode on here instead.

Hi Everyone!

Saturday the 29th September 2012 saw the Mid Series/Season Finale of Doctor Who Series 7 and the sad departure of two very loved companions of the Doctor. If you haven’t seen the episode then please do not read any further as it does contain “Spoilers.” If you haven’t seen my other reviews of the series then here they are:

Episode 4

Episode 5 was called “The Angels Take Manhattan” and was set both in New York, USA in 1938 and 2012. Here is a a brief summary of the beginning of the episode:

“The Doctor, Amy, and Rory enjoy a picnic in Central Park in present-day New York City. The Doctor is reading a 1930s detective novel while Rory leaves them to go for coffee. To the Doctor’s and Amy’s surprise Rory turns up in the plot of the novel as the Doctor reads on. The Doctor and Amy continue to read in concurrence with events in the past, as Rory is joined by the book’s narrator, who turns out to be River Song. They are both abducted by Grayle’s henchmen. River tells Rory that New York is subjected to unusual time distortions which would prevent the TARDIS from landing in this time period. The Doctor meanwhile decides not to read any more of the novel, which is credited to “Melody Malone”, an alias used by River to investigate Weeping Angels in 1938 New York. He fears that he would be forced to follow the plot once he becomes aware of it.” (Wikipedia, 2012)
The episode was a very emotional one for me, as I saw these two companions from the beginning of the Eleventh Doctor’s time in 2010 till their departure in New York. They were the longest companions of the Doctor since the re-boot in 2005 and I sometimes wish they didn’t have to leave. But as everyone knows that companions come and go and one lesson learnt is that the Doctor must never travel alone. This was shown in the previous episodes leading up to this and maybe why the Doctor was getting darker in character.

As the episode progressed, my heart kept on sinking as the Angels were chasing them and when both the Ponds went over to kill themselves to create a Paradox. My heart sank even further when Rory was sent back again to the past and seeing his gravestone in a New York Graveyard. It was also really sad to see Amy go especially with the relationship she had with the Doctor.

Even the Doctor knew that he couldn’t visit them again and was very heartbroken. River was very supportive throughout the final scenes and even helped fly the TARDIS for the Doctor. Even she said that she will travel with the Doctor for some time (but not all the time).

The afterword in the book was very emotional because it was written by Amy a long time ago and she passed away at the age of 87, whilst Rory died at the age of 82. Here is what was written:

Overall the episode was an excellent piece of work by Steven Moffat. I hope some of the plot holes will be explained in the next part of the series but otherwise I give the episode a 9.5/10. It was also good to see that the episode got positive reviews and good viewing figures.

On a final note, I hope people saw that the Statue of Liberty was a Weeping Angel if not DO NOT BLINK!

I know that I’ve already released my normal weekly Vlog but felt since the Doctor Who new Series had started over two weeks ago I wanted to review it for fun. I’ve been a huge Doctor Who Fan (Whovian!!!)  since the re-boot in 2005 (I was fifteen years old). I enjoyed watching the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) battling the monsters with Rose Tyler (Billie Piper). I also enjoyed David Tennant’s Doctor (The Tenth Doctor) and of course the current Doctor (The Eleventh) Matt Smith.

Hope you enjoy this review featuring “Asylum of the Daleks” & “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.” Also an insight into why I love the show so much. Plus an update of what’s happening so far in my life and what I’m planning to do over the next coming weeks/months.

Now this Vlog is where my cousin Neer challenges one of my other cousin’s friends Gurdeep to a friendly fight in one of those balance fighting arenas found in the theme park. I did do a video of the fam going around a tea-cup ride but there was a high chance somebody watching would get motion sickness due to the constant spinning right from the start. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind putting it up but it will most probably be in another blog and the video will only be found on that post and not on YouTube.

So this is the final Blog and Vlog Post from the Florida Series and this was taken in St. Petersburg (near Clearwater), Tampa, Florida. Hope you have enjoyed the other four parts and shared it with your friends and family.
With this Vlog I filmed it in different parts and it is more or less a tour of certain parts of the city; mainly walking distance from where I was staying. The film shows a botanical garden called “Sunken Gardens” and a walk around Beach Drive where my hotel was located.

Sunken Gardens has been one of the Landmarks of St. Petersburg since 1935. Their mission statement is “To preserve and enhance Historic Sunken Gardens and to provide enjoyment and unique opportunities for the study of a tropical forest through diverse educational and cultural experiences.” The site is 4 acres in size (larger than Camley Street Natural Park!) and is an awesome place to visit with friends and family. Their website (found here) tells you more about the place in detail.

For my readers outside the UK, Thorpe Park is one of the largest Theme Parks in the UK.

I’ll be also planning to do a Vlog and Blog Post about Doctor Who’s latest series which recently aired on the 1st September 2012. This will be filmed about episode 1 and 2 which are “Asylum of the Daleks” and “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.” This will be also released next week too and then I will explain what’s happening in future Vlogs and blog posts.

Sorry for a slightly delayed Blog Post, was watching the London 2012 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony. I must say it was an awesome and very unique way of celebrating the start of something big.

Now in regards to this Vlog; this was filmed outside in the rain at Universal Studios and was filmed over a month ago. We only went for the big rides and was a bit disappointed about the Back to the Future Ride was replaced by the Simpson’s Ride. Otherwise my brothers and I had a good time before heading off to St. Petersburg (Tampa).

Here is this week’s 2nd Blog Post and it’s all about Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We did visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios on the same day but I forgot to record stuff and was way engrossed in going on Star Tours 3D and enjoying the Pizza Planet Pizza. I also took loads of photos whilst at that park. However, I did take loads of Wildlife Photos which will be uploaded in a separate Blog Post in the very near future!

This is the start of the Florida Vlogs and the next one due out is the Disney Animal Kingdom Vlog and accompanying Blog post.

This trip to Florida was from the 18th July till the 27th July 2012. Also it was the third time the family and I visited the U.S. State. The first time was when I was 7 (1997), the second time was when I was 14 (2004) and now eight years on (aged 22).

Each trip was different and the first time round it was awesome. The second time was very enjoyable as I was able to go on all the roller-coasters but we did experience a Hurricane. This was Hurricane Charlie and it was pretty scary being our first time experiencing one. Fortunately for us when we visited in July, there were just some Tropical Storms but otherwise very hot!

On this holiday, we visited Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom (over two days). We also visited Universal Islands of Adventure and Orlando’s very own Universal Studios (also over two days (with a day’s rest in-between)). Finally resting in St. Petersburg near Clearwater, Tampa.

Now the first Vlog is an edited clip of the famous “Wishes” Firework Display at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. No matter how long the video is I still feel that it gives you the reader a taste of what it was like to be there. One thing I can tell you, if you have the time to go to Walt Disney World Orlando, you must visit the Magic Kingdom (even if you are a grown-up!)

Before I go into some detail of what it was like working at the London 2012 Olympic Games, I would like to congratulate all the Games Makers for their hard work and dedication to making sure these Games went like clock work. It was also an honour to work with them as they were all friendly and showed a lot of enthusiasm.

From the 30th July till the 12th August 2012 working as a Steward was not just challenging but also was a learning experience. I was very lucky to work at four different venues within the Olympic Park in Stratford and meet so many spectators, athletes, staff and VIPs. I worked 3 days at the Copper Box, 6 days at the Velodrome, 4 days at the Riverbank Arena and 1 day at the Basketball Arena.

I met many people including some famous faces whilst at the Olympics including Matt Dawson (Ex-Rugby Player/Presenter, the guy from Question of Sport (BBC)), Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Team GB Cycling Team , Sir Chris Hoy, Team France Men’s Handball Gold Finalists, The Sports Minister of St. Lucia and the Cycling Coach of  Team Columbia. It was an honour meeting them in person and all were very nice (yes including Jeremy Hunt).

In my opinion, working at the Velodrome was the most exciting as it was where I saw Team GB win 3 Gold Medals in two days and the crowd were very loud. Even though the temperature was a constant 28 Degrees Centigrade (82.4 Fahrenheit) at every event (maximum performance temperature for the Athletes), I enjoyed it very much. I also got my very first compliment from a Spectator and received a very rare Columbian Team Pin Badge from the Cycling Coach of Team Columbia for just smiling.

The other venues were also magnificent and very green in my opinion. Around the park I could see how sustainable each building was and how people were aware of not throwing rubbish everywhere. I also saw loads of recycling bins not just inside the venues but around the park too.

In regards to the Vlogs in Florida there are more than 3 Vlogs filmed than originally planned. There will be two released per week and next week will be Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. The following week will be Universal Studios Islands of Adventures and Universal Studios Florida. Finally there will be a Vlog about my stay in St. Petersburg near Clearwater in Tampa, Florida. I filmed a lot of content and it’s a lot of editing, which shouldn’t be a problem for me! lol

The Olympics Blog post will be up later this week due to still being fresh in the memories of so many people.

There are two more to come over the  next two weeks with Part 2 released on the 17th July 2012 and Part 3 released on the 29th July 2012. Both remaining parts were filmed in Mumbai, India and my brother filmed and participated in both Vlogs. I will add some photos in the third Vlog of the wildlife and sustainability photos. The photos can also be found on my Flickr Page.

The Best of Show Podcast will be up well before August 2012 and that’s a promise. The Radio Demo will be hopefully up sometime in August 2012.

You may have noticed the lack of posts over the past month and quite a few people have been waiting for the weekly vlogs and Best of Show Podcast. The reason why I’ve haven’t got round to it is due to being really busy since Graduating from the University of Hertfordshire with other commitments.

Over the next week there won’t be anything coming up but I will be working on a few more Vlogs and these will start the Weekly Vlog section again. It is not easy planning every week a Vlog so I’m going to do a bulk of them and release them from now on.

The new set of Weekly Vlogs will be released from the 8th July 2012 onwards. They won’t be exactly a week apart, it depends on how busy I am with other things. A bit of warning though, they may be utterly random in topic or a set order.

The Best of Show Podcast will be hopefully released during in the week starting the 9th July 2012. I will hopefully also be releasing some Photo Blogs too

This blog page will be updated whenever I have time to do so. I also hope to be doing Radio as a big side thing from either August or September 2012. Will update in future blogs what’s happening.

You may have also noticed the changes in previous blogs and vlogs, this will most probably continue until I have a much clearer idea of what to do as it’s been over year since starting  my own blogging.

Final ever Uni Exam was done earlier today and I am so relieved!

Here’s the 26th April/27th April 2012 Podcast below as promised many weeks ago. Also was nominated at the UHSU Student Recognition Awards 2011-12 for Best Radio Show.

The Savan Gandecha Show on Crush Radio Week 22:

The next two podcasts will be the 17th May 2012 and the 24th May 2012 shows. These will be my last two shows on Crush Radio but there will be a Best of podcast in the near future. This will also feature in the same blog post as the last two radio shows podcast. Also will put up my Demo Tape as a separate blog. There will be more weekly blog posts and vlogs from now on. The first one should be up on the 18th May 2012.

In regards to Wildlife Photography, should have some new photos up from the Uni next week before finally leaving the University of Hertfordshire until the Graduation Ceremony sometime in November 2012….:)
