Dari hasil berseluncur di web hari ini menemukan suatu hal yang menarik perhatian.  Sebuah web yang mempopulerkan ide untuk menyelamatkan bumi; dengan benefit tambahan yaitu mendapatkan uang dengan cara personal carbon trading .

Temanya adalah melalui pengurangan jumlah tagihan listrik, air dan gas yang dilakukan oleh rumah tangga. Dari hasil pengurangan tagihan tersebut, akan dikonversi kedalam berapa banyak penghematan karbon yang dapat dihasilkan.  Selain hal tersebut dituliskan juga sejumlah tips yang dapat membantu untuk mengurangi beban bumi. Beberapa contohnya dengan mencuci baju di malam hari, memastikan tekanan ban yang sesuai, memakai baterai isi ulang, menyumbangkan material sisa, bersepeda untuk ke kantor, dan berbagai tips lainnya.

Sayangnya program menyelamatkan bumi dan mendapatkan uang ini baru berlaku di Amerika dan beberapa lokasi yang berdekatan; yang sistem adminstrasi penghitungan gas, listrik, air tercatat dengan jelas. Kapan ya hal ini bisa dilakukan di Indonesia ??? Anway silahkan coba liat website ini, sangat menarik.

(link) It’s the very simple idea by changing out our light bulbs and using CFLs and LEDs instead (those curled, screw looking light bulbs), we’ll save money, the Ozone, environment, Mama Earth, energy – and much more. There’s a lot of good doing that’s so easy on this website. Incidentally, also a really well-designed, fun website.

So tonight was Earth Hour.

I asked Honey if he was participating and before that I asked him if he knew what Earth Hour was. Well, he did he said. Then he said he would be modifying his participation. He would turn out all the lights in every room in the house except for the one that he would be in from 8 to 9 pm. Then he said he would be unplugging all the household appliances too—things like the refrigerator. I expressed my skepticism at having to throw out hundreds of dollars worth of groceries. Which is when he said that if I would only turn off the lights in the rooms I wasn’t using, I could have a bigger impact than turning off all the nights in the house for one hour. I have a thing where I find lights on to be comforting. I will try to make a difference everyday by flicking a few switches.

It’s 9:02 and I am happy to report we only have the tv and two lights on. Peace to the earth. I will say though that a lot of my neighbours didn’t observe Earth Hour at all (meow!).
