With all its beaches, it will come as no surprise that water sports are high on the agenda. Bali is a surfer’s paradise, with the best surfing for experts in Uluwatu and Canggu and in Kuta for beginners. Scuba diving is another popular choice, as the water in Bali is warm all year long. The best diving spots are in the east in Amed and Tulamben where you can take PADI certified diving courses. You can also snorkel here, or head to the west to Menjangan (Deer) Island, which supposedly has the best variety of fish and coral.

Other water activities include white water rafting in Sayan, west of Ubud; kayaking on some of the quieter rivers and on Lake Tamblingan; canoeing at Lake Batur; and dolphin watching by sunset in Lovina in the north.

In Nusa Dua, Sanur and other coastal resorts, wind surfing, parasailing, jet skiing, and other water related fun such as banana boat, flying fish, etc. can be found in abundance.

Hiking through the rice paddies is a good way to explore the inland and small villages of Bali. And so is mountain biking. Bike-Baik or Banyantree tours organize downhill cycling tours with visits to farms and plantations. Both activities can take you up the volcanoes, which are definitely worth a visit, and overall not too strenuous.

If you decide to stay in a resort, you can make use of the golf courses, tennis courts and swimming pools. You can also go fishing, bungee jumping, or sailing to one of the smaller nearby islands. If you go sailing, you can either rent a luxury yacht for the day, or hire a local perahu for an hour or so.

Not being an athletic person myself, I have undoubtedly missed a few sports, but we did go parasailing in Sanur, which was great fun.

As a result of FAR’s “Mathevosian”, “Gulamerian”, “Ounjian”, and “Sayan” scholarships, as well as other FAR education programs, nearly 400 young girls and boys have an opportunity they would not otherwise have:  the chance to study at state universities and colleges. “This is FAR’s contribution into the future of our youth” says Levon Lachikyan, FAR’s Press Secretary in Yerevan.

On October 23, 2009, a Press Conference dedicated to FAR’s Educational Programs was held at the FAR Yerevan Office. Mr. Lachikyan discussed FAR’s evolution with respect to the types of assistance it offers Armenian citizens.  Years ago, FAR was known primarily as an organization investing in humanitarian aid to Armenia. However now FAR holds a leading position in the spheres of education and science.

FAR’s educational and scientific programs coordinator Eduard Karapetyan presented the educational programs, and discussed the student selection procedure and requirements. He mentioned that students are not selected merely as a result of their socioeconomic status, but also as a result of excellent academic progress and a strong desire to study.  Thanks to this consistent approach, the academic progress of the students improves year by year. This year, 24 excellent students (20 undergraduate, 4 graduate-master degree students) received full scholarships.

Buyers paid a combined $23 million in March for six waterfront condominium units located on the Barrier Island just east of Downtown Miami, according to a new condo report from Condo Vultures® LLC.

There were four deals worth $13.2 million that occurred in Miami Beach, and two transactions worth $10 million that closed in Sunny Isles Beach, according to the condo report.

“Investors seem to be saying with these purchases that new waterfront housing on Miami’s Barrier Island is a great hedge against a volatile real estate market,” said Peter Zalewski, a principal with the Bal Harbour, Fla.-based real estate consultancy Condo Vultures®.

In trendy Miami Beach, Buyers closed on three transactions in the Capri South Beach for a combined $9.4 million, and one deal at the Apogee for $3.75 million.

Buyers in Sunny Isles Beach paid $5.25 million for a 5,030-square-foot penthouse at the Sayan, and $4.75 million for a two-story unit in the newly opened Jade Beach, according to the condo report.

Four of the transactions closed with cash but two involved financing.

A balloon mortgage for $4 million was provided on the $5.25 million unit at the Sayan, and an Adjustable Rate Mortgage in the amount of $500,000 was extended on a $2.36 million purchase at the Capri South Beach, according to the condo report.
