SEOUL: Six different members of popular Korean pop idol group, Big Bang, 2NE1 and Girls’ Generation (SNSD), became teachers for one day on SBS Survival Audition K-Pop Star.

The eleventh episode which aired Sunday, showed scenes of special training sessions of contestants chosen by SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment.

Survival Audition K-Pop Star, held in collaboration with the Big Three: SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment and JYP Entertainment, is looking for the next big K-Pop Star.

The winner will receive a cash prize of three million KRW (app. $335,000 SGD), an international album release deal and a chance to enter a star training system under SM, YG or JYP Entertainment.

Big Bang’s Taeyang, 2NE1′s Minzy and Girls’ Generation (SNSD)’s Sunny, Yoona, Taeyeon and Seohyun, who were representing three major entertainment agencies in Korea, took time to sharpen the skills of the contestants.

YG Entertainment’s Taeyang and Minzy gave one-to-one lessons to the contestants who were chosen by the CEO of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk.

“I was also not good at singing,” Minzy said as she gave singing advice to Park Jung Eun, one of the participants dubbed as “dancing machine” on the show.

Taeyang, acknowledged by most as the best dancer in Big Bang, gave encouragement to the participants with detailed advice on dancing, singing and stage performance. Of course he didn’t disappoint by giving demonstrations on some moves himself.

It was girl band meet girl band when Girls’ Generation members met up with four-member SuPearls, who were chosen by BoA from SM Entertainment.

15-year old Park Jimin, a member of SuPearls whose rendition of Adele’s “Rolling in the deep” audition video became viral in January 2012, got SNSD to share their insights on diet and fitness.

Representing JYP Entertainment was Park Jin Young, who chose to use his luxurious recording studio car, which had never been revealed before, to share advice with the chosen contestants who were in the car with him.

The recording studio car was reportedly built for Park Jin Young to cater to his busy schedule as a judge on K-pop Star, as well as TV actor and music producer.

On the latest episode of SBS‘s ’K-Pop Star‘, contestant Baek Ah Yeon outperformed Michelle Lee with her re-arrangement of Big Bang‘s ‘Haru Haru‘, allowing her to score first place in her group.

This recent event marked a huge turning point for Baek Ah Yeon on the audition show. Baek Ah Yeon has been in a major slump for the past couple rounds, receiving harsh criticism from the judges for her inability to deliver a rich sound in her songs. She was nearly eliminated in the previous episode, but Yang Hyun Suk decided to give her another chance.

Grateful for the second opportunity, Baek Ah Yeon stepped up her game with her cover of Big Bang’s ‘Haru Haru’. The song, which normally emits a rough and fast-paced beat, was softened by Baek Ah Yeon’s piano and her delicate voice.

Yang Hyun Suk, who trained the contestant under his label, didn’t hold back on his compliments and praised Baek Ah Yeon in a separate interview. “Baek Ah Yeon knew she had a malicious case of lymphoma. She overcame that. She had to be strong.”

After watching today’s show, viewers commented, “Her performance was above Michelle Lee’s. Talent is important, but modesty is also an asset” and “I’m seeing Baek Ah Yeon in a new light! So proud of her~”

Top winners of today’s round will automatically advance to the next round with the top ten, while runner-ups in each group will have to face off in another battle to secure a spot.

On the episode airing this coming 11th on SBS ‘Survival Audition – KPOP Star’ (also known as “KPOP Star”), Taeyang and Gong Minji are expected to make an appearance for one day as vocal trainers for YG Entertainment training.

With the two of them suddenly coming into the picture, it it said that the mood of the filming site rose with heat. The two will be training each contestant with a ‘1-on-1 one-point lesson’ strategy, unlike the first round of training they had before.

First, Taeyang will be training the contestants in dance, singing, stage manner, and the general key points with his own demonstrations as he encourages them with detailed advice. He was even able to help each contestant with their flaws, surprising even the staffs of the show.

Gong Minji has also helped train with the singing of the contestants with less confidence in themselves, stating, “I wasn’t really able to sing when I first came into training as well”, giving her own advices from previous experiences.

The ‘KPOP Star’ staff were able to share that “Taeyang and Gong Minji’s lively lessons gave the contestants much encouragement and support” and that “these contestants will surely put these lessons to use when the new ‘battle audition’ and third round training comes up”.

The ‘battle audition’ and third round training will be soon be aired following the new episode on the 11th.

YG Entertainment CEO and ‘K-Pop Star’ judge, Yang Hyun Suk, shed tears during the February 4th broadcast of the program. While he’s previously stated that “emotions should not interfere with the decisions made in the show,” Yang found that he couldn’t stop tears from brimming as he observed the passion of the contestants.

The emotional response stems from YG Entertainment’s early years. Yang founded the company in hopes of scouting talented star-hopefuls who would help the K-Pop industry to advance and prosper. This same motive allowed him to become one of three judges for SBS‘s audition program.

Yet Yang’s method of looking for “quality over quantity” has caused him much grief. Yang stated that he was at first skeptical about debuting Big Bang, as there were much talk on whether or not the group would survive in the idol industry. As he watched over the contestants on ‘K-Pop Star’, Yang said that he felt the same about SuPearls, a group assembled by several contestants on the show.

“At first, I was worried for the SuPearls members,” says Yang, “I thought their skills were not polished enough to guide them through the competition and that they would not be able to develop their skills in such a short time.”

“However, they proved me wrong,” continued Yang, “Their passion, hard work and desire to become a star have made them into the performers they are now.”

Yang then started to tear up, as the memories of his anxiety over Big Bang came to mind.

“The Big Bang boys faced so much criticism for not being “idol-like” in the beginning, and it pained me to hear that,” says Yang, “But, like SuPearls, they worked hard each and every single day to succeed in the industry. SuPearls’ success today made me think of the day when I said to myself: ‘Big Bang made it. They survived.’”

2NE1‘s Park Bom was impressed with ‘K-POP Star’ contestant Michelle Lee.

On the episode of ‘Survival Audition K-POP Star‘ that aired on the 29th, Michelle Lee belted outBeyonce‘s “Work it Out” in front of YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk, 2NE1′s Park Bom &CL, and Big Bang‘s Taeyang & Daesung.

But ahead of her performance, Yang Hyun Suk informed Park Bom that Michelle was good enough to compete against her, and once Michelle began to sing, the panel judges were once again blown away.

Her performance was powerful and emotional, and Park Bom did not hold back her praise saying, “I thought someone turned on a CD just now.”

She also evoked much laughter, being envious of Michelle Lee who Yang Hyun Suk could not stop gushing about.

Producers of SBS‘s ‘K-Pop Star‘ have revealed that they are strongly considering a second season for the hit audition program.

On January 30th, PD Park Sung Hoon met with reporters and revealed, “We’ve begun considering a second season for ‘K-Pop Star’. In order for there to be a second season, though, we need to discover a winner with the potential to become a star within the first season.”

‘K-Pop Star’ was launched on December 4th of 2011, so the show is hoping to come out with a winner by at least April. They’ve yet to reach any milestones, but the program itself has been acknowledged by viewers and the industry alike.

The second season must also rely on the return of participation by SM, YG, and JYP Entertainment, especially since this is one of the defining factors of the show that sets it apart from the other audition programs.

Another representative stated, “Our priority lies in the discovery of a season one star first. We’ll discuss a second season after then.”

The show will begin its live broadcast format starting February after the announcement of the ‘Top 10′.

Big Bang’s Taeyang displays his jealousy towards Lee Michelle, one of the contestants of K-POP Star, SBS’s weekend popular audition show.

On the January 29 episode of K-POP Star, the contestants who were selected by one of the three representatives of Korea’s top three major entertainment agencies are trained by each agency’s training programs.

The contestants who were selected by YG Entertainment are directed to join individual training courses to test their capabilities. After the training course was completed, they faced a midterm test with Big Bang and 2NE1’s members as the panel of judges.

When asked if he has any contestant he has wanted to see, Taeyang evoked big laughs by saying, “I wanted to see Lee Michelle. These days my boss always sings her praises, so I sometimes became so jealous of her.”
