Come già detto il Natale è un periodo critico e comunicazioni di questo tipo sono in genere preallarmi di SCAM!!!Mi raccomando quindi di evitare di seguire ALCUN consiglio di questo tipo!!!

I was too grossed out to read about the Maguindanao massacre again, and it’s too unbelievable for me to read about Mayor Andal Ampatuan’s pulling of MILF involvement in his case that I decided to read just the Regions News.

There is a funny (of course, it’s not funny to the victim) police report from Cebu that really got into my conversation with my boss.

An American, Allan Toor, thought he hit the jackpot when he met (online) and got engaged to a Filipina. According to the story, he waited for her to arrive at the Hollywood International Airport in Florida in mid-October, with flowers and chocolates in hand. No one came.

She not only ran off with about P100,000 of his money but gave Toor a false name and a nonexistent address in Cebu.

She also used the photo of Filipina singer-actress Karylle, the daughter of singer Zsa Zsa Padilla, to identify herself to Toor.

It’s always a great start to the holiday weekend why your wife gets a death threat emailed to her.  Nothing beats a nice relaxing Wednesday at work before Thanksgiving being spiced up by someone saying they’ve been paid to kill her.  She gets to have all the fun. No one ever wants to kill poor old Eric.

Around 5:00 I noticed she forwarded an email to me.  Usually the the stuff she sends me are chain emails  but I can say this is the very first “You’re going to die email” she or anybody else has ever sent me. 

Subject: Last warning

This is Scot, head MZP Squad. I wish to let you know that i have been paid by a client to assasinate you at convenience. I have never met you before, but they gave me the full description of your identity The reason why they want you dead was never not disclosed to me. My guys are now contantly watching you waiting for my instruction to terminate you at convenience.THIS IS MY MESSAGE: Listen very well, the Police cannot do much to help you out in this right now because you are being watched,any such attempt is very risky and can push us to terminate your life without any other option. We DON NOT want any trace  whatsoever. So, you are advise to send your reply within 48hrs to:  victorseropian@aol.com WARNING: Like you have been told, any attempted attempt  to involve third party will be too bad

At first I just wrote this off as spam scam.  Those wacky Nigerian princes try getting my money in investment schemes all the time.  But since I can’t help the good prince out I’ll use his email address to sign up for porn sites.  Figure if the Prince can’t get his money out of the his country to enjoy at least he can relax some nice online adult entertainment courtesy of Eric. 

But this was a little more extreme than a ”Will you cash a check then give me a check minius 10% as my gift to you” scam.  Being the resourceful Internet detective I am I hit google to dig a little deeper into this threat.  I pride myself  with the odd skill of being able to track anything or any body down online. 

The first thing I did was google the origanal email address that was used to send this to Melissa.  It was a Canadian email address that showed up on a youth basketball group’s website  in Halifax.  What was really strange was that the coach who owned up to the email was named Scot.  Yes! Scot! ”As in This is Scot, head MZP Squad”.  If you google the email address of the Nigerian check scam sender chances are it will come back to a Bob Jones in New Jersey.  Never had a name in a email actually match up to the real name of the sender.

Oh it’s on now Scot! 

There was the coach/MZP squad leader’s home phone number on the basketball groups page so I called Canada to give a friendly “Hello……..why are you trying to kill my wife” 

At this point I was still calm.  Still thought it was still a scam.  Just assumed this guy’s information and email had gotten hijacked.  Just remain calm Eric and leave a polite message and explain what’s going on.  That plan worked for about five seconds before I ended up swearing at this answering machine.  I believe the phrase “you trying to kill my wife you’d better plan on taking me out as well because I’ll come after you” slipped out somewhere along the lines.

Didn’t mean to but it just came blurting out.  Felt as if I was in a really bad really cheesy 90’s Bruce Willis action flick and the over the top dialog suited the conversation.  Never had to have “why are you trying to kill my wife” chat before.

After leaving a rather profane message on Scot from Halifax’s answering machine I filled out the online form for the FBI to let the know I had a problem.  Gave them all the information including the contact info for Scot that I cam across online.  Maybe they’ll be impressed with my computer forensic skills and hire me on as a freelance Internet consultant.  Or better yet and honorary field agent.

After I let the FBI in on the case, by this point it was a case in my mind, I hit google once again.  This time I searched “MZP squad” and guess what?  The exact threatening email came up on several other people’s websites word for word.  Turns out they all use the name, Scot, and the one being sent to my wife was just a coincidence the address it was sent from belonged to a real person named Scot.

What are the odds?

The second guest seems agitated. Wonder why?

Following on from yesterday’s article this is a nice letter written in reply from my friend Andrew Rawlings. For $1,000 per head the religionists should enjoy a pretty nice time.

What will it be spent on? Nice meals? Business class flights? Luxurious accommodation?

I have no objection to religious people holding a conference. But, why I, as a taxpayer, have to pick up the bill for it is a mystery. A religious mystery.

Recientemente un amigo, Edu, ha recibido un email de una conocida (ver final de artículo) haciendo referencia a www.kauyps.com, donde supuestamente tienen productos a muy buen precio. Y en teoría es así, los precios son casi imbatibles, lo que hace sospechar mucho de la legitimidad de la página. Un ejemplo: moto Honda CBR por 1139€ x’D. Un mail raruno del que evidentemente Edu ha desconfiado y ha solictado la opinión de los expertos . Manos a la obra teclado y ratón!

Una búsqueda en Google-is-your-friend no arroja demasiados resultados, algo extraño para un sitio con unos precios bastante asombrosos, debería haber muchas más referencias. Tal vez el que se haya registrado ese dominio hace 3 semanas escasas explique los pocos comentarios a favor o en contra pero que también dice mucho de cara a realizar compras online a una web ubicada en China, famosos en la red por sus estafas, mails basura y botnets. Otro dato relevante, la dirección de correo que se ha utilizado para registrar el dominio ha sido también utilizada para registrar otros 599 dominios!. Vaya, va a ser que no te dedicas únicamente a esto chinito estafador

Por otro lado el sitio web dice aceptar pagos con Visa y Paypal, métodos de pago que podemos considerar seguros para realizar compras por internet. Los logos de las dos compañías aparecen en la web y con una apariencia algo cutre y deformada. Sin embargo navegando por los comentarios se puede ver lo siguiente:

Comprador: how can i pay directly from my visa card to your company which is a secure way to pay as if you dont deliver i won’t have to pay and you will be in jail obviously… (Cómo puedo pagar con mi Visa como medio seguro de pago ya que si no se envía el producto yo no pagaré y tu irás a la carcel evidentemente)

Vendedor: sorry , we do not accept visa card .we accept bank transfer.you may pay in your local bank. very easy (Lo siento, no aceptamos tarjetas Visa. Aceptamos transferencias bancarias, debes hacerlo en tu propio banco, muy fácil)

Claro, claro, haces la transferencia y si te he visto no me acuerdo, ven a buscarme a China, somos muchos y no sabrás diferenciarnos

Y una nota que aparece en la página respecto al pago con Paypal:

Los enlaces sociales que aparecen en el top de la página (“Follow us in twitter/facebook“) así como “Rebate center” y “helpdesk” nos enlazan con la página principal, algo que hace sospechar,sobre todo el de helpdesk.

La mayoría de las referencias encontradas se refieren a este sitio web como emisor milliones de correos spam, malware, phising, etc. La compañía Xin Net Technology Corporation ha sido la intermediaria en el registro del dominio y es la responsable de que el 84.51% de los dominios registrados por ellos hayan sido detectados como emisores de spam en el último mes.

Sí os llega un mail de una persona conocida con el siguiente texto marcadlo como spam y no hagais caso:

So you know you need to take some sort of supplement. And everyone is always talking about how fabulous their antioxidant is . So how do you know which one is actually worth your money.

Let me share some of what I have learned over the past 15 years of knowing some of the sharpest scientific and medical minds in the country (hopefully I absorbed some wisdom purely by osmosis). I have also managed to raise three children with ZERO visits to the doctor for illness.

Here is a little perspective. Your body produces 4 endogenous (meaning your body makes them) antioxidants. They are the most important antioxidants known. Of these Glutathione is the most important. The other three are: Superoxide dismutase (SOD), Alpha lipoic acid (ALA), and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10).When an antioxidant supplement works it typically produces results by indirectly increasing 1 or these 4 endogenous antioxidants.

So how do you see through all the massive amount of marketing hype on which supplement is best for your body?

First do not accept testimonials exclusively as a measurement of product effectiveness. Dramatic changes in health can be realized by simply drinking more water.

Second do not accept “scientific proof” that focuses on raw ingredients of a product instead of the product itself. Raw ingredients are very sensitive to processing. The finished product may have nothing to do with the cool research. This is what I call “borrowed science.”
