Ever wonder how scientists collect much-needed DNA samples from endangered species? Their repertoire of non-invasive sampling methods is growing with leaps and bounds, but one of the most popular techniques involves scooping up their poop. (Um, the animals‘ poop that is.) Except, field biologists call it “scat” which somehow seems more palatable. (One animal’s trash is another animal’s treasure?) But to get DNA from scat requires a gifted touch. Just any old scat lying on the forest floor will not do. It is best fresh. And with a good smear of intestinal mucus. Or so says a new study out in the Journal of Wildlife Management.

Linda Rutledge from the Natural Resources DNA Profiling and Forensic Centre at Trent University set out to test the best way to swab  scats in order to get the best DNA samples. Her goal was not an esoteric one, because scientists can easily spend oodles of money on DNA tests on scats they’ve swabbed in the field — with nary a clue for weeks as to whether they are actually capturing the double-stranded genetic material they are after. They must wait for a week or two to get their first samples back from a genetics lab to know with certainty if they are in fact collecting their target DNA, and if the material is quality. Wouldn’t it be better, Rutledge wondered, if there were a more detailed field method for swabbing scats that guaranteed a high return rate of quality, target DNA?

She and her colleagues combed the boreal forest west of Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada for the scats of gray wolves (Canis lupus) and eastern wolves (C. l. lycaon). They found 20 using a systematic search, and they opportunistically collected an additional 20 in Chapleau Crown Game Preserve which they determined would have frozen immediately upon their deposit due to the ambient temperatures. They aged the scats qualitatively according to “travel history, scat moisture content, and appearance, and categorized them as ,12 hours, 12–24 hours, 24–36 hours, and >36 hours old.” Next, they rubbed a cotton swab all over the scat, and especially over areas that appeared to have the unique shine of mucus. (Ew, right? But somebody’s gotta do it…) For the frozen scats, the researchers allowed them to thaw back in the lab, and then they swabbed the fecal material. (Methinks swabbing thawed poop was a task assigned to a lowly grad student…)

They found that the freshest, unfrozen, field-swabbed scats yielded the best DNA samples with the most minimal genotyping errors and the lowest rates of “allelic dropout” — which basically means the lowest rate of failure in detecting the presence of an allele within a sample. These swabbed scats were the most likely to provide DNA that could be amplified in the lab using a multiplex reaction, which is a system that allows the researchers to copy and replicate multiple locations of the DNA strand in a single PCR test. Multiplex reactions can save vital study funds because they allow for multiple data points to be gathered in one test — but they only save money if the multiplex reaction actually captures the data from the multiple sites. They found that ten of the field-swabbed samples yielded amplification at all eight mitochondrial locations, whereas only three of the lab swabbed frozen and thawed samples yielded amplification at all eight sites. This has an important implication for someone setting out to do a scat study because if it is possible to collect scats in the warmer summer months, they will have a better chance of being able to do multiplex tests with a higher rate of success, versus sampling and swabbing frozen scats that are later thawed.

In order to test which swabbing method was best for obtaining the highest quality and quantity of DNA from scats, the researchers also amplified a specific region of the X and Y chromosomes (called the zinc intron finger) with contains really long base pairs. Whereas most PCR tests target locations that are 100 to 350 base pairs long, the region they targeted was 965 to 1,094 base pairs long. Successfully amplifying such a long DNA fragment would tell them if there was a difference in the swabbing methods in terms of the quality of the DNA that was collected and the quantity. Despite amplifying this long fragment successfully 12 times, they found only one allelic error, which they attributed to human error. Basically, this test was used to assess the trustworthiness of their method in producing results with low to no errors, and it did so.

Their study provides guidance, and perhaps cost-savings measures, for other scientists seeking to do scat studies. The authors concluded: “The main benefit of our method is that laboratory costs and time are substantially reduced because extraction of high
quantity and quality target DNA allows reliable individual 8-locus genotypes to be obtained with only 2 PCRs as opposed to multiple single microsatellite amplifications that are typically required for noninvasive samples with low template.”

The trick of course, is that those fresh scats have to be discovered in less than 36 hours from when their owner deposits them, which increases the time and money spent on field surveillance and collection. One new way that scats are being found with a high reliability is the use of scat-sniffing dogs. (I am not making this up.) Dr. Samuel Wasser at the Center for Conservation Biology in the Pacific Northwest has been pioneering this field over the past decade or so. But more on that later…

LONDON (Nov. 21) — Computer hackers have broken into a server at a well-respected climate change research center in Britain and posted hundreds of private e-mails and documents online — stoking debate over whether some scientists have overstated the case for man-made climate change.

The University of East Anglia, in eastern England, said in a statement Saturday that the hackers had entered the server and stolen data at its Climatic Research Unit, a leading global research center on climate change. The university said police are investigating the theft of the information, but could not confirm if all the materials posted online are genuine.

More than a decade of correspondence between leading British and U.S. scientists is included in about 1,000 e-mails and 3,000 documents posted on Web sites following the security breach last week.

Some climate change skeptics and bloggers claim the information shows scientists have overstated the case for global warming, and allege the documents contain proof that some researchers conspired to manipulate data.

The furor over the leaked data comes weeks before the U.N. climate conference in Copenhagen, when 192 nations will seek to reach a binding treaty to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping greenhouse gases worldwide. Many officials — including U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon — regard the prospects of a pact being sealed at the meeting as bleak.

Within a decade, summers in the North Pole will be dramatically different: no ice and just an open sea. That is the prediction released Oct. 14 by explorers who have hiked through the area. Here, research vessels on an unrelated expedition break through ice near the North Pole in 2004.

A new report examines the human cost of climate change, which it said causes more than 300,000 deaths per year. The report, released in May, shows the impact of climate change on population displacement, malnutrition and diseases, such as malaria. “Climate change is not something waiting to happen,” said former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

In one leaked e-mail, the research center’s director, Phil Jones, writes to colleagues about graphs showing climate statistics over the last millennium. He alludes to a technique used by a fellow scientist to “hide the decline” in recent global temperatures. Some evidence appears to show a halt in a rise of global temperatures from about 1960, but is contradicted by other evidence which appears to show a rise in temperatures is continuing.

Jones wrote that, in compiling new data, he had “just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (i.e., from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline,” according to a leaked e-mail, which the author confirmed was genuine.

One of the colleague referred to by Jones — Michael Mann, a professor of meteorology at Pennsylvania State University — did not immediately respond to requests for comment via telephone and e-mail.

The use of the word “trick” by Jones has been seized on by skeptics — who say his e-mail offers proof of collusion between scientists to distort evidence to support their assertion that human activity is influencing climate change.

“Words fail me,” Stephen McIntyre — a blogger whose climateaudit.org Web site challenges popular thinking on climate change — wrote on the site following the leak of the messages.

However, Jones denied manipulating evidence and insisted his comment had been taken out of context. “The word ‘trick’ was used here colloquially, as in a clever thing to do. It is ludicrous to suggest that it refers to anything untoward,” he said in a statement Saturday.

Jones did not indicate who “Keith” was in his e-mail.

Two other American scientists named in leaked e-mails — Gavin Schmidt of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, and Kevin Trenberth, of the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research, in Colorado — did not immediately return requests for comment.

The University of East Anglica said that information published on the Internet had been selected deliberately to undermine “the strong consensus that human activity is affecting the world’s climate in ways that are potentially dangerous.”

“The selective publication of some stolen e-mails and other papers taken out of context is mischievous and cannot be considered a genuine attempt to engage with this issue in a responsible way,” the university said in a statement.

Global Warming – Settled Science?

With the continual bombardment of ‘climate doom’ stories today, it is hard to imagine a time when global warming was not a ‘top priority’ on the social, political and economic agenda. Everything from floods in England to poverty in the Third World is now being blamed on global warming. However, it is a relatively new phenomenon, barely discussed until 20 years ago, and established as a significant policy issue only in the past 15 or so years.

Usually a scientific theory takes many decades to become established, and only after the most rigorous testing under many different scenarios, does it achieve ‘scientific consensus’. However, when it comes to Global Warming its proponents claim that there is no argument or debate to be had. Their current crusade is to turn Global Warming into something that supposedly no honest and decent person can disagree about, as they have already done with ‘environmental sustainability’. Al Gore often says “Climate change is a moral issue.” In other words it is all about you, and your destructive behaviour.

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has confidently announced ‘the science is settled’ on man-made Global Warming. Their most recent set of reports declares that “the debate over the science of climate change is well and truly over. Unified international political commitment is now urgently required to take action to avoid dangerous climate change.”

However, the science is not settled. Many renowned climatologists strongly disagree with the IPCC’s conclusions about the cause and potential magnitude of Global Warming. More than 20,000 scientists have now signed the Oregon Petition which criticises it as ‘flawed’ research and states that “any human contribution to climate change has not yet been demonstrated.” Dr Chris Landsea resigned from the IPCC because he “personally could not in good faith continue to contribute to a process that I view as both being motivated by pre-conceived agendas and being scientifically unsound.”

The IPCC claims that more than 2,500 respected scientists and policy makers collaborate to write its climate change assessments but less than a tenth of these ‘experts’ actually hold qualifications in climatology, most were in fact educated in the political and social sciences. The panel that edits and approves the reports are appointed by the United Nations, and more than half are actually UN officials. Dr Richard Lindzen, who is a genuine climate expert, resigned from the IPCC process after his contributions were completely rewritten by the panel.

“It’s not 2,500 people offering their consensus, I participated in that. Each person who is an author writes one or two pages in conjunction with someone else. They travel around the world several times a year for several years to write it and the summary for policymakers has the input of a handful of scientists, but ultimately, it is written by representatives of governments, and of environmental organizations, each pushing their own agenda.” – MIT’s Professor of Atmospheric Science Dr. Richard Lindzen on the IPCC report.

Czech President Klaus stated “It is not fair to refer to the UN panel as a group of scientists. The IPCC is not a scientific institution. It’s a political body, a sort of non-government organization of green flavour. It’s neither a forum of neutral scientists nor a balanced group of scientists. These people are politicized scientists, and UN bureaucrats, who arrive there with a one-sided opinion and a one-sided assignment.”

Asserting ‘the science is settled’ ignores the debate that still rages, and the constant shrieking by alarmists like Al Gore reveals that Global Warming is being used to push a hidden agenda. They are not really interested in the science at all. Even their much vaunted consensus is a myth. The Global Warming Petition Project has been signed by more than 31,000 American scientists, including more than 9,000 with PhDs. Signers include world renowned physicists such as Prof. Edward Teller and Prof. Freeman Dyson. Nearly 4,000 signers are scientists trained in specialties directly related to the physical environment of the Earth and the past and current phenomena that affect that environment.

The petition states: “There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.”

Proclaiming that “climate change is real” is a nonsensical statement and ignores the Earth’s continual natural warming and cooling cycles. Vikings settled in Greenland and raised crops and cattle 1000 years ago, while Britons grew grapes in England. Four hundred years later, Greenland froze and the Vikings starved. Europe was gripped in a Little Ice Age. The Thames froze all the way up to London. Another surge in temperatures saw widespread global droughts in the mid-1600s. Temperatures plunged again around 1700’s. The globe warmed in 1800-1940, cooled for the next 35 years, then warmed again. The 1940-1975 cooling period occurred despite the fact that industrial production and release of CO2 vastly accelerated during this time. This led to political and media scaremongering about Global Cooling, and the threat of a new ice age.

Again, this arose out of a misunderstanding of long term temperature fluctuations. Scientists have discovered that the sun not only has a regular 11 year cycle of sunspot activity. They have now discovered a significant 200 year cycle. Sunspot and solar radiation activity almost exactly parallel temperature changes on the Earth. It correlates well with the anomalous post-war temperature dip, when global carbon dioxide levels were rising very fast. The increase in solar radiation prevents the formation of clouds, which have a cooling effect on the planet, therefore the temperature rises.

Other recent studies, published in Nature and other leading journals, conclude that the sun’s radiant heat and solar radiation levels affect planetary warming and cloud formation more strongly than acknowledged by Global Warming alarmists. After all, why would natural forces that caused the climate to change in past centuries suddenly stop now? And how does man-made Global Warming explain why every planet in our solar system appears to be simultaneously warming up? Does this not suggest that Global Warming is a natural cycle as a result of the dynamic nature of the sun?

In truth we still know very little about how the Sun really operates. This is one of the reasons why I cringe when global warming alarmists categorically state that the sun could not possibly be the cause of any slight warming that has been observed on earth. A new type of telescope developed by the Japanese has revealed all sorts of energy patterns and violent eruptions that could not previously be observed, and their effect on earth is unknown.

“A Japanese space telescope called Hinode has achieved success in revealing certain surprising characteristics of the Sun, previously not known to humans. Among the characteristics revealed is the restless bubbling and frothing of the Sun’s chaotic surface, which has astonished astronomers around the world. “Everything we thought we knew about X-ray images of the Sun is now out of date,” scientists told a NASA press conference in Washington on Wednesday.

According to Leon Golub from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, US. “We’ve seen many new and unexpected things. For that reason alone, the mission is already a success.” Hinode has sent back startling images of the Sun’s outer limb. Where astronomers expected to see a calm region called the chromosphere, they saw a seething mass of swaying spikes. Another surprise sighting is that of giant magnetic field loops crashing down onto the Sun’s surface as if they were collapsing from exhaustion, a finding that Golub describes as “impossible“.

Recently another unexpected solar phenomenon was observed:

“Astronomers have captured the first footage of a solar “tsunami” hurtling through the Sun’s atmosphere at over a million kilometres per hour. Details were reported at the UK National Astronomy Meeting in Belfast. In a solar tsunami, a huge explosion near the Sun, such as a coronal mass ejection or flare, causes a pressure pulse to propagate outwards in a circular pattern. Last year’s solar tsunami, which took place on 19 May 2007, lasted for about 35 minutes, reaching peak speeds about 20 minutes after the initial blast. Co-author David Long commented: “The energy released in these explosions is phenomenal; about two billion times the annual world energy consumption in just a fraction of a second.”

Apart from ignoring the giant ball of fire in the sky, Global Warming alarmists also overlook a few other inconvenient truths. They ignore the fact the natural emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere far exceed human contributions. In fact humans contribute a measly 0.035% of the total annual carbon flux. Any system that can be perturbed by such a tiny fluctuation would be very unstable indeed. They also ignore the fact that water vapour is by far the most dominant greenhouse gas. The atmosphere consists of 40,000 ppm of water vapour, whereas carbon dioxide weighs in at a miniscule 380 ppm. Instead they rely on dubious computer models that the IPCC itself admits exclude complex parts of the climate system that they don’t yet understand.

Sometime in the late 1990s activists decided to abandon the name Global Warming and switched instead to Climate Change. This has two advantages. It allows them to seize as ‘evidence’ the inevitable occurrences of unusually cold weather as well as warm ones. The climate is always changing, but now any storm, hurricane, tornado, flood, frost or drought is instantly used as “proof that our climate is changing!”

Global Warming has almost become religious dogma for many in the green movement. High priest Al Gore demands that we accept a “scientific truth” in which no doubt is allowed, blind faith and acceptance is our only option. They label anyone who questions their claims to be “climate deniers”, a cheap and quite despicable comparison to Holocaust deniers. There is a sustained campaign to prevent these heretics from having any sort of public platform for their views. Every scientist who manifests disbelief can expect to be the target of abuse from self-appointed protectors of the planet.

Al Gore’s Live Earth concerts were one of the most blatant attempts at mass manipulation and brainwashing that I have ever witnessed. The broadcast continually urged viewers to “Answer the Call” and “Save Our Selves”. Films clips were shown of New York City hundreds of feet under water. One clip was titled “A contract with Satan”. Another showed a man eating the last piece of ice on earth. Very subliminal!

As in other forms of mental conditioning, continual reinforcement is a necessary part of the process and that is where ritual comes in. Switching off our VCR’s at the wall every night, cycling to work, sacrificing our humble incandescent light-bulbs, anxiously calculating our carbon footprints, it all helps to soothe our guilt and makes us feel like we are doing our part.

In medieval times the Catholic Pardoner sold Papal Indulgences, which freed the prosperous from the consequences of sin. They were able to indulge in carnal pleasures as long as they could pay the price. Likewise, the new pardoners sell carbon offsets. Soon every time you commit the sin of driving your car you will be forced pay the price for ‘wounding the planet’. Some faceless company will agree to plant an imaginary tree to atone for your climate crimes.

The hoax of the man-made Global Warming is being imposed on the world by many methods, both subtle and blatant. Proponents of the Global Green Agenda have embarked on a programme of mass deception, while scientists who attempt to blow the whistle on the fraud are silenced, tarred, ridiculed and fired. The Gaian cult that has permeated the United Nations is using the hysteria of Global Warming to impose draconian control measures on society and centralise world power. They intend to use this fabricated crisis, and any other crisis that might arise, to further their plan for “a sustainable global human society living in harmony with Gaia.” They have declared “the science is settled” on the man-made origins of Global Warming. Real scientists know that science is never settled. We have seen it all before.

We can only hope that world leaders will do nothing more than enjoy a pleasant bicycle ride around the charming streets of Copenhagen come December. For if they actually manage to wring out an agreement based on the current draft text of the Copenhagen climate-change treaty, the world is in for some nasty surprises. Draft text, you say? If you haven’t heard about it, that’s because none of our otherwise talkative political leaders have bothered to tell us what the drafters have already cobbled together for leaders to consider. And neither have the media.

Enter Lord Christopher Monckton. The former adviser to Margaret Thatcher gave an address at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, earlier this month that made quite a splash. For the first time, the public heard about the 181 pages, dated Sept. 15, that comprise the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change—a rough draft of what could be signed come December.

So far there have been more than a million hits on the YouTube post of his address. It deserves millions more because Lord Monckton warns that the aim of the Copenhagen draft treaty is to set up a transnational “government” on a scale the world has never before seen.

The “scheme for the new institutional arrangement under the Convention” that starts on page 18 contains the provision for a “government.” The aim is to give a new as yet unnamed U.N. body the power to directly intervene in the financial, economic, tax and environmental affairs of all the nations that sign the Copenhagen treaty.

The reason for the power grab is clear enough: Clause after complicated clause of the draft treaty requires developed countries to pay an “adaptation debt” to developing countries to supposedly support climate change mitigation. Clause 33 on page 39 says that “by 2020 the scale of financial flows to support adaptation in developing countries must be [at least $67 billion] or [in the range of $70 billion to $140 billion per year].”

And how will developed countries be slugged to provide for this financial flow to the developing world? The draft text sets out various alternatives, including option seven on page 135, which provides for “a [global] levy of 2 per cent on international financial market [monetary] transactions to Annex I Parties.” Annex 1 countries are industrialized countries, which include among others the U.S., Australia, Britain and Canada.

To be sure, countries that sign international treaties always cede powers to a U.N. body responsible for implementing treaty obligations. But the difference is that this treaty appears to have been subject to unusual attempts to conceal its convoluted contents. And apart from the difficulty of trying to decipher the U.N. verbiage, there are plenty of draft clauses described as “alternatives” and “options” that should raise the ire of free and democratic countries concerned about preserving their sovereignty.

Lord Monckton himself only became aware of the extraordinary powers to be vested in this new world government when a friend found an obscure U.N. Web site and searched through several layers of hyperlinks before discovering a document that isn’t even called the draft “treaty.” Instead, it’s labelled a “Note by the Secretariat.”

Interviewed by broadcaster Alan Jones on Sydney radio Monday, Lord Monckton said “this is the first time I’ve ever seen any transnational treaty referring to a new body to be set up under that treaty as a ‘government.’ But it’s the powers that are going to be given to this entirely unelected government that are so frightening.” He added: “The sheer ambition of this new world government is enormous right from the start—that’s even before it starts accreting powers to itself in the way that these entities inevitably always do.”

Critics have admonished Lord Monckton for his colorful language. He has certainly been vigorous. In his exposé of the draft Copenhagen treaty in St. Paul, he warned Americans that “in the next few weeks, unless you stop it, your president will sign your freedom, your democracy and your prosperity away forever.” Yet his critics fail to deal with the substance of what he says.

Ask yourself this question: Given that our political leaders spend hundreds of hours talking about climate change and the need for a global consensus in Copenhagen, why have none of them talked openly about the details of this draft climate-change treaty? After all, the final treaty will bind signatories for years to come. What exactly are they hiding? Thanks to Lord Monckton we now know something of their plans.

Janos Pasztor, director of the Secretary-General’s Climate Change Support Team, told reporters in New York Monday that with the U.S. Congress yet to pass a climate-change bill, a global climate-change treaty is now an unlikely outcome in Copenhagen. Let’s hope he is right. And thank you, America.

The New World Order came into being at 4:25 Tuesday afternoon.

It arrived at the Capitol, until that moment the seat of American government, in the form of the stooped and bespectacled figure of Ban Ki-moon, who as U.N. secretary general is the de facto leader of what conspiracy theorists call the One World Government. One floor beneath the Senate chamber, Ban, a South Korean national, took his place behind a lectern bearing the Senate seal and spelled out his demands.

“I would certainly expect the Senate to take the necessary action; that’s what I have encouraged the senators,” he told reporters as a trio of lawmakers stood at his side. He added an admonition for the chamber to deliver “as soon as possible.”

The One World Government has specific requirements, Ban added, namely a “legally binding” commitment to “25 to 40 percent greenhouse gas reduction . . . as recommended by the IPCC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.”

Uh-oh. A U.N. official standing in the Capitol telling U.S. lawmakers what binding commitments intergovernmental authorities expect from them? Glenn Beck was going to burst a blood vessel.

But the man who orchestrated this putsch by the New World Order, Senate Foreign Relations Chairman John Kerry (D-Switzerland), did not appear concerned by the imagery. He called the secretary general “Your Excellency.” Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana (a Republican, but he drives a Prius) was equally deferential as he spoke of “the privilege of this distinguished visitor.”

And Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) hailed Ban for “the accelerated leadership role” that the United Nations has taken. “Your vision, that in Copenhagen there can be a politically binding agreement that will lead to a legally binding agreement to follow . . . is a very reasonable, sensible and hopeful course.”

Somewhere in Manhattan, Sean Hannity was tearing up his script for the night’s broadcast.

Kerry invited Ban to lecture the Foreign Relations Committee, but it’s not clear what the chairman hoped to gain from the photos of him standing with Ban in the Capitol’s Brumidi Corridors. Indeed, it seemed quite possible that a U.N. endorsement of Kerry’s climate efforts would embolden its foes, who like the world body even less than they like cap-and-trade. In the pantheon of conspiracy theories, the United Nations is right up there with the Illuminati, the Trilateral Commission, the Federal Reserve and the Council on Foreign Relations — which, as it happens, Kerry addressed a couple of weeks ago.

Even Americans who don’t come from the grassy-knoll tradition tend not to regard the United Nations with great confidence. A Gallup poll earlier this year found that 65 percent of respondents thought it was doing a bad job, compared with 26 percent who think it is doing a good job. Ban himself is not terribly nefarious, if only because he is unknown. A Wall Street Journal poll found that 81 percent of those surveyed didn’t know who he was. The others may have confused him with the Unification Church’s Rev. Sun Myung Moon.

Ban’s profile could become much higher, and not in a good way, if Americans start to perceive him as meddling in Senate consideration of climate legislation. Even before he stormed the Capitol, Fox News was drawing a connection between global warming talks in Copenhagen next month and One World Government.

“America, if you believe this country is great but you’re not really into that whole One World Government thing, watch out,” Fox News Channel’s Beck warned a couple of weeks ago. His guest, Lord Christopher Monckton of Britain, told Beck that “at Copenhagen, a treaty will be signed that will, for the first time, create a world government with powers to intervene directly in the economy and in the environmental affairs of individual nations.” Earlier on Fox News, Dick Morris informed Hannity that President Obama “believes in One World Government.” And author Jerome Corsi went on Hannity’s show to warn about a One World Government in which “our sovereignty would be subject to the dictates” of the United Nations and other international organizations.

The One World Government was on open display at the Capitol on Tuesday, as international U.N. staffers waited outside the room where Ban spoke to the senators. The secretary general had come with his own world government (armed?) security detail, who stood alongside the Capitol police.

Ban, wearing a gold U.N. lapel pin, unfolded his speech. “Less than a month from now, the leaders of the world will gather in Copenhagen,” he said. “They must conclude a robust global agreement,” that is “comprehensive, binding, equitable and fair.”

Speaking softly but firmly, the South Korean cautioned the Americans that “the world is not standing still,” and that “all the eyes of the world are looking to the United States.”

After a few minutes, Kerry cut off questioning. “Folks, the secretary general has to get to the airport.”

Ban needed to catch the U.S. Airways shuttle to New York. The One World Government Air Force isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.

My last post on scat play harm reduction outlined the major risks of consumption (coprophagy) and unprotected scat play. In this post, I’ll describe some alternatives to consumption and some ways to do safer scat play.

Ways to reduce risk in scat play:

1. Smell, don’t taste.  Smelling or wafting scat from a slight distance gets almost the full effect of tasting scat in the mouth. Studies show that the smell sensors in the nose—rather than the taste buds of the tongue—comprise nearly 75% of the sense of taste.  Smelling scat avoids the risk of direct fecal-oral contact, which is the primary source of potential infection through scat play.
2. Use barriers, such as latex gloves or dental dams, if you are going to touch the scat.  You can still feel the texture, the malleability, and the warmth of the scat, but without direct contact with pathogens.
3. Wash the whole body thoroughly with antibacterial soap after any scat play.
4. Contain scat play to a small area on a surface that can be easily disinfected.  Use disposable chucks or plastic drop clothes in the play area and dispose of them immediately after the scene.  Disinfect the play area with bleach immediately after the scene.
5. Do not engage in scat play when you have a depressed immune system, for example due to illness or medication.
6. If you do consume, do not resist the urge to vomit afterward.  Nausea is your body’s signal telling you to that you need to expel something harmful from your system, and ignoring those signals can have deleterious results.  Be prepared for vomiting:  Make sure that you have a designated area (such as a bag or a toilet) into which you can vomit; make sure to properly dispose of any vomit and disinfect that area afterward.  If you vomit, brush your teeth and rinse your mouth thoroughly immediately afterwards, as vomit contains caustic stomach acids that can strip your tooth enamel.

(Disclaimer: I am no Freudian. Freud contributed greatly to complicating understandings of subjectivity and psychic structures.  Many subsequent thinkers have revisited and revised his theories, as well as rejected and modified many of these Freudian ideas.  I mention Freud here not to cite his ideas as psychological fact, but rather to highlight an important moment in intellectual history and theories of sexuality.)

Freud argued childhood psychosexual development followed three consecutive stages.  The first stage, the oral phase, characterizes the earliest phase of life, in which an infant’s pleasure consists in oral stimulation and especially in the act of breastfeeding.

The second stage in Freud’s schema is the anal phase, in which the child achieves bowel control and becomes fascinated with the erogenous zone of the anus.  The conflict among the interior psychic structures of id, ego, and superego as well as the conflict between child and parents around the act of toilet training.  This act of control of this fundamental bodily function served as the model for Freud’s understanding of sadism.  Freud understood sadism as a form of the anal retentive character, and indeed refers to such sadistic cravings as “anal sadism.”  Sadism, as a desire for, and the derivation of sexual pleasure from, control over bodies—one’s own body as well as the bodies of others—is an extension of the pleasure that the anal retentive character derives from withholding feces in the body and exercising control over defecation.  According to Freud, such an anal retentive personality is stubborn and a perfectionist and compulsively seeks order.

Therefore, one could argue that scat play entails a classic textbook act of sadism, in which the top controls her own bowels as well as, and as a means of, aggressively exercising control over another body and subject.

In a recent discussion, a fellow feeder (that is, scat provider) asked:

Q:  How do you produce a hot brown meal for a hungry toilet on short notice?

I was glad to respond and will repost My answer here.

A:  I have developed a science of scat scheduling.  My gastrointestinal regulation has become a matter of ritual. (A caveat: It applies to My body, and may not apply to the bodies of other scat dommes.)

Even before I began doing scat play, I produced what one of my toilets refers to as “prodigious amounts” of shit. A lot of that has to do with my diet & exercise regimen, but it may also have to do with other factors that are unique to My body and not reproducible in others.

In general, if anyone is planning to do any scat play as a feeder, she should eat a high fiber diet all the time. That means lots of whole grains and leafy vegetables. Cut out (or at least cut down on) meat, white pasta, potatoes. Foods high in cellulose will pass large amounts right through the GI tract to the other side, though usually it takes (Me) about 6-12 hours to get the full force effect of a high-cellulose meal (such as a big bowl of popcorn).

If I want to do a BS ASAP–which, without risking serious discomfort, means in about 45 minutes–I recommend the following meal:

* kasza (toasted buckwheat groats) prepared with 1 part kasza to 2 parts water, and cooked until soft

* a banana sliced up in the kasza

* black coffee

* 2 or more glasses of lukewarm water (not ice cold water, as that can make you cramp and slow down the movement process)

Exercise is just as important as diet for promoting or delaying movement. Certain abdominal exercises and yoga poses help Me control precisely when I will go.

I have refined this process to the point at which I can schedule My scat appointments at a particular time, days in advance, and then deliver on that with precision. My toilet slaves certainly appreciate that skill.

(Note: I do not take laxatives–ever. I was disappointed to hear that some pro dommes use laxatives to artificially induce bowel movement, or even do scat sessions using enemas! Enema water is not the kind of “scat” that My toilets want in their mouths.)

All my scat specimens are large and perfectly formed.  If I do say so Myself.

Last night, I was chatting online with a fellow who had been into scat play for some time. He asked a question which perhaps many people might ask, but I was slightly surprised to hear it from a self-described human toilet. I decided to include his question and My answer below.

Q: Why would someone want to be a human toilet?

A: Well, people are all different. Every scat enthusiast I have met has a slightly different angle on his/her interest in scat play.

Still others are drawn to it primarily because scat play is seen as the ultimate taboo. Even in the bdsm community, scat play is often seen as an edgy and extreme form of play.  That edginess, the “forbidden fruit” factor, can itself make scat appealing.

Some people primarily seek out the visual. They want a front row seat to see, up close and personal, a beautiful woman’s defecating ass.

The above list is not meant to be schematic, but simply to be a few examples of different perspectives on scat play, all of which are real and meaningful for the people who espouse those views.

One thing I love about doing scat professionally is that I get to encounter so many different perspectives and desires around this one bodily function.
