Social media needs strategy. Strategy means planning. So, why not plan your tweets to execute your strategy?
It isn’t always convenient to write amazing copy at the exact time it’s most valuable to your audience. Most great copy isn’t written in one shot and sent straight out to the world. It often takes iterations to dial in just the right message.
What applies to a book, a magazine, The NYT, the barista’s blog and your local “gurus” Twitter stream is no different. Good content requires preparation, forethought, and planning. You’re given 140 characters to make an impression – timing and content are everything. Businesses need the right Tweet queued up at the right time. The right time to send a Tweet isn’t the right time to compose a Tweet. After all, it’s hard to make hay and Tweet about making hay while the sun is still shining.
We’ve all heard people say that Twitter is the verbalization of an individual’s metabolic processes: “Just woke up, taking a poop, washing my hands, drinking my third cup of coffee, lather, rinse, repeat.” Why? Twitter is pushing you to talk about what you are doing now – like a real world question with no forethought whatsoever.
It’s not so different it seems for many smaller businesses. Because the channel is “real time” you can’t have thought, planned and iterated your thoughts in advance to deliver the best message possible. Or can you?
If you’re one of the bazillion local businesses trying to use social media like Twitter to augment the “old school” channels you probably don’t have a copywriter/social media strategist on staff. It would be nice, but you don’t. And, just like all the crappy ads that filled newspapers when local merchants realized they could make their own ads, the audience is often pained by how amateur the message is. The good news is that tweeting can be improved easily without needing an art or writing degree. Just a tiny bit of forethought will make all the difference and probably save you time overall.
What’s the point?
Plan your Twitter content. Before you blurt out a message, think about it and even time specific tweets for highest impact moments to make your Twitter stream more effective. You plan most of what you do in your business. Don’t treat Social Media differently.

The Bash ulimit built-in can be used to probe and set the current user limits. Such limits include the amount of memory a process may use or the maximum number of opened files a user can have. While ulimit is generally understood to affect a whole session, it can be used to change the limits of a group of processes using, for example, a sub-shell.

However, the ulimit command is quirky (it expects a particular order for parameters and not all may be set on the same command line) and does not seems to be ageing all that well. For one thing, one cannot set the affinity of processes—indirectly controlling the number of and which cores one can use in a multi-core machine.

Invoking the command with -a will list all current limits with corresponding switches and units:

$ ulimit -a
core file size (blocks, -c) 0
data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
scheduling priority             (-e) 0
file size               (blocks, -f) unlimited
pending signals                 (-i) 16383
max locked memory (kbytes, -l) unlimited
max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited
open files                      (-n) 1024
pipe size            (512 bytes, -p) 8
POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200
real-time priority              (-r) 0
stack size              (kbytes, -s) 8192
cpu time               (seconds, -t) unlimited
max user processes              (-u) 16383
virtual memory          (kbytes, -v) unlimited
file locks                      (-x) unlimited

To modify the execution environment with ulimit one can either invoke ulimit at the current shell level or use it within a sub-shell as we saw previously. For example, to set soft and hard time limits for a program:

$ (ulimit -t 2  -St 1; this-or-that-program )

If you look at the list of options provided by ulimit one is conspicuously missing. If we have the maximum scheduling priority for a given program, we can’t set its affinity, that is, the CPU(s) on which it will be constrained to run.

This seems like a useless constraint to put on a process but it may not. For time-critical application, we may not want to have a processing shifting from core to core possibly trashing caches in the process. You may also want to keep a user from sucking up all CPU time by using all cores. Another reason is the speed stepping.

Speed Stepping will allow a processor to dynamically change its power consumption by adjusting its internal clock speed—and also possibly its core voltage. Idle processors return to a low clock frequency if the computer’s policy is set accordingly.

Suppose that on a machine we have one demanding process running full speed. If one has many cores, all but the cores running the currently demanding process are in low speed and power consumption mode. However, the OS may well decide to migrate the process from its current core to some other core. But the other core is in low speed/power mode so is running the process much slower for a while, at least until the system’s power policy allows that core to kick in high gear and increase its frequency to its maximum. Meanwhile, the recently abandoned core returns to low speed/power mode as it is now idle.

On my current Laptop (using a Core 2 Duo P8700) SpeedStep allows the cores to be independently managed. Using Gnome’s CPU frequency monitoring task bar applet, I see that the speed of the cores vary independently. I also see a demanding process migrate from one to the other for no apparent reason. I do not know what goes on in the scheduler; maybe if two demanding processes are mapped to the same core even for a very short period of time, one of the two gets migrated? Either way, I see a process migrate to a slower processor for no apparent reason and the scheduler doesn’t seems to know about SpeedStep.

The crudest and direct way of solving the problem is to use a call to sched_setaffinity function and set explicitly the affinity to a given set of processors. This works perfectly well, but it means that you have to modify your software to take affinity into account, possibly through new command line options. That’s rather cumbersome.

I propose to extend the ulimit built-in to offer control over affinity for processes. Maybe -w (for “working” processor) or -g (for group of processors) would make a good switch? The syntax could be a hex map or a list:

$ ( ulimit -w=2,3 ; this-or-that-program )

Maybe a more general mechanism for architecture-specific limits should be added? I’d be happy for now with an extra option for affinity.

*
* *

SpeedStepping isn’t only beneficial for laptops and netbooks, it is beneficial for servers and whole data centers as well. I have no serious data on this, but I guess that a typical data center has its peak hours of usage but remains idle a large part of the day. For example, a local service provider will get lots of hits during some peak hours (lunch time, evenings) but comparatively little during the night and early morning. During the idling hours, I guess someone could save a lot of money by using speed stepping. Not only slower CPU draw less power, they also dissipate a lot less heat. Heat is a major problem for large data centers and results in more power consumption as cooling is necessary.

*
* *

I think ulimit command should be extended to include new functionalities such as the processes’ affinity. I know that one can just include the affinity management in the application itself, but it seems to make more sense to shift the responsibility of setting affinities to the shell as it does not require the modification of an existing piece of software. Furthermore, shifting this responsibility outside the application allows for easier power and machine-usage policies managed by system-level scripts.

*
* *

Readers will point me to taskset, a command-line tool that can be used to provide a CPU list for affinity and launch a program. The thing with taskset, while it does work properly, is that it doesn’t permeate the user’s environment in the same way limits do. Of course, all processes that descend from a process launched with taskset will inherit from the affinities, but that doesn’t seems to be session-wide as limits are. Limits are set sometime during login, and all user processes for that session inherits from the initially set limits, without the intervention of the user. Of course, we could use taskset to somehow emulate the behavior, but that’d be a special case handled by a sessionrc script or something like that.

days site -job board template.

Two folders that can be ccleaned automatically is the recycle bin and the Temporary Internet file folders. Both these are located on some directories or folders in your computer. These emergency to cleaned periodically. Now there is no way of telling your computer to clean only the recycle bin automatically. we must write a program and upload it on to the Windows Scheduler.

You program can be composed in Dos Script or in Visual Basic. All needs is to have is a line that deletes the Temporary Internet Files folder and the rrecycle bin. The next business is to tell the computer achieve this proggram everyday. If .bat file is used your program can be worn in as is where is condition. On the contrary if VB scripting is tempered to then the program needs to be converted to exe interfile composition.

Now we must upload the prrogram to the Scheduler. Windows has a scheduler which will fulfil programs automatically a given day / on the dot of the week/once or repeatedly.

We to delete the existinng files that are just now automaticcally. We cannot write an auto remove program based on size or age as we do not know if we command the files. So what we need to periodically copy antique and sized files on to another disk partition or on to a disk mounted on a drive. Now ages again we can use Visual Basic. One can use the File System Object and retrieve properties of old files and large sized files and can just principles a simple line which purpose copy full of years files and hefty files to another exclusive disk partition.

The thirrd issue is letting you know that there are some files waiting to be reviewed not later than you in front being deletedd. You can setup an e-mail wide awake benefit using Visual Basic and receive e-mail alerts some new files are copied on to the other disk partition. This has to be placed in the scheduler as well.

Now your self-acting program is almost ready. Now one has to physically efface the files. Just create spread sheet your exclusive backup partition drive and specially mark files that you do not want off. After this write another inadequate program inVisual Basic which will look through the contents of this spread sheet, obliterate all the files that you want to deleted and also delete recycle bin.

Every small business professional has been there: Its 2:45 in the afternoon, you are stuck in rush-hour traffic, and a client calls you to set an appointment. You explain that you are on the road and would like to call them back, but the client tells you they will be out of town for the next week, and are really busy after that. You grasp for a slip of paper, maybe a fast food receipt and you jot down the best time they can meet. Later, after traffic has cleared and you are home, that one slip of paper is gone. Never have that problem again with online appointment scheduler software. All the client does is point and click and the meeting is set. Never lose another slip of paper again with online scheduling software

How many software companies will give you the first 15 days with their software for free? StormSource Software, Inc allows their customers to use their online appointment scheduling software 15 days for free. They want you to have time to get it set up and try it on some clients to make sure it is the online appointment scheduling software for you. They are customer driven and prove it from the start with the first 15 days free. They are now on their fifth version of Appointment-Plus scheduling software which proves they listen to their customers. They are continuing to add features that customers are requesting.

Most people are good about making backup copies of their configuration before changes, but everyone

Most people are good about making backup copies of their configuration before changes, but everyone makes mistakes eventually. To me the risk is not worth it, so this will be dedicated to automating Cisco TFTP backups of configurations. Most server administrators have automated tasks using either Cron (Linux/Unix) or Windows Scheduler. Cisco IOS also has the ability to schedule tasks.

I am very picky when it comes to my Cisco devices. A lot of information I read on this had the schedule execute “copy running-config startup” and would only backup one configuration. This is not a good thing, especially when there are multiple device managers. Below will go through setting up two jobs that backup both the running and saved configurations to different files daily.

Note: This assumes that you already have a TFTP server running on the network.

After logging into the switch, move into configuration mode

FiberSw01# config terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Enable the scheduler

FiberSw01(config)# scheduler enable

Crate a job named “backup_running”

FiberSw01(config)# scheduler job name backup_running

Enter the syntax used to copy the running configuration to your TFTP server

FiberSw01(config-job)# copy running-config tftp://172.0.0.22:69/config/FiberSw01_running

Exit configuration mode

FiberSw01(config-job)# end

Now that we have a job defined, make sure it is listed with the scheduler

FiberSw01# show scheduler job
Job Name: backup_running
------------------------
   copy running-config tftp://172.0.0.22:69/config/FiberSw01_running
==============================================================================

With the job defined, we can go back in and set when we want it executed

FiberSw01# config terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Define a new schedule name and set execution time(s)

FiberSw01(config)# scheduler schedule name Backup_Running
FiberSw01(config-schedule)# time daily 23:00
FiberSw01(config-schedule)# job name backup_running
FiberSw01(config-schedule)# end

Now the schedule(s) can be listed with names, execution times, and status

FiberSw01# show scheduler schedule
Schedule Name       : Backup_Running

Over the last week, myself and most aviation professionals, amateurs and fanatics have kept close tabs on the media blitz regarding the Northwest/Delta flight that over-flew Minneapolis/St. Paul airport a few days ago. Not only does the media have a slant on what it thinks was going on during the radio silence from this flight, but so does every single person that I’ve spoken to in the aviation industry. It goes without saying that everyone is entitled to their opinion and everyone in the aviation industry falls under this freedom. With that said, I have had to ask myself a couple of times this week; to what extent do we damage our careers and our livelihoods when we go ahead and publicly speculate with the rest of the world regarding an incident like this.

I can remember close friends and not so close friends asking me questions about the USAir DC-9 crash in Charlotte back in 1994. I did not even have 2 full years on my pilot certificate, yet everyone that asked me questions regarding the crash were looking at me as though I was an expert. I realized that anything I was going to say was going to be taken as the gospel. The way those friends looked at me and held to every single word I was saying as I was attempting to answer their questions, was something I would not soon forget.

One of the reasons many of us pick a career like Aviation is the prestige that comes with it and to be truthful, the respect that should come with the job and with that prestige. That respect comes with a lot of responsibility. Responsibility not only to the people in the back of our aircraft but also responsibility to our fellow pilots, mechanics, schedulers, flight attendants and other aviation professionals (not to mention other transportation professionals). I do not feel it does any good to speculate in public regarding something akin to these two pilots over-flying their airport.

I say this, this way, because I have heard from several people who laugh about the current explanation for this over-fly, which currently is that they were discussing scheduling software and schemes while on laptops in the cockpit . These friends are dead set on the idea that these two pilots were sleeping. And to make matters worse, more than one of these opinions were posted on Facebook for all their friends to read and believe it to be the gospel. Aviation is one of those careers or hobbies that almost everyone in the world looks up to and almost all of those people who look up to us, would like to be one of us at some point in their lives. When they have a friend that is a pilot or is closely associated with Aviation, they have someone who they take opinions as though it is fact.

I would like to see us use our distaste for situations like this over-fly in a different way other than airing our opinions or grievances to the public. How about the fact that us aviation professionals have a lot to learn from each other and each others mistakes. How about a look in the mirror tonight and ask ourselves how could this have happened to us or our crew? How about a discussions within our Flight Departments, within our crews, within our unions, or privately within our ranks on how we could be out of radio contact for even 10 minutes and not know it, not the mention the many more minutes that these two were subjected too? How about an honest discussion and an ongoing conversation on how each of us is subject to a momentary lapse of judgement that can affect many lives and to a lesser extent – but still important – livelihoods? I believe we do ourselves, our fellow employees and our passengers a great disservice if we do not believe that it could have been us in that plane, and then start asking ourselves how we got there in the first place.

I’m the Threat

[This is the last re-post of old community content. But this content is important enough to be worth a re-post.]

I spend a great deal of time answering customers’ questions about the scheduler. Never have so many questions been asked about such an abstruse component for which so little user influence is possible. But CPU scheduling is central to system performance, so VMware strives to provide as much information on the subject as possible. In this blog entry, I want to point out a few nuggets of information on the CPU scheduler. These four bullets answer 95% of the questions I get asked.

Item 1: ESX 4’s Scheduler Better Uses Caches Across Sockets

On UMA systems at low load levels, virtual machine performance improves when each virtual CPU (vCPU) is placed on its own socket. This is because providing each vCPU its own socket also gives it the entire cache on that CPU. On page 18 of a recent paper on the scheduler written by Seongbeom Kim, a graph highlights the case where vCPU spreading improves performance.

The X-axis represents different combinations of VM and vCPU counts. SPECjbb is memory intensive and shows great gains with increases in CPU cache. The few cases that show dramatic benefit due to the ESX 4.0 scheduler are benefiting from the distribution of vCPUs across sockets. Very large gains are possible in this somewhat uncommon case.

Item 2: Overuse of SMP Only Slows Consolidated Environments At Saturation

For years customers have asked me how many vCPUs they should give to their VMs. The best guidance, “as few as possible”, seems too vague to satisfy. It remains the only correct answer, unfortunately. But a recent experiment performed by Bruce Herndon’s team sheds some light on this VM sizing question.

In this experiment we ran VMmark against VMs that were configured outside of VMmark specifications. In one case some of the virtual machines were given too few vCPUs and in another they were given too many. Because VMmark’s workload is fixed, increasing the VMs’ sizes does not increase the work performed by the VMs. In other words, the system’s score does not depend on the VMs’ vCPU count. Until CPU saturation, that is.

Notice that the scores are similar between the undersized, right-sized, and over-sized VMs. Up until tile 10 (60 VMs) they are nearly identical. There is a slight difference in processor utilization that begins to impact throughput (score) as the system runs out of CPU. At that point the additional vCPUs waste cycles which degrades system performance. Two points I will call out from this work:

Sloppy VI admins that provide too many vCPUs need not worry about performance when their servers are under low load. But performance will suffer when CPU utilization spikes.

The penalty of over-sizing VMs gets worse as VMs get larger. Using a 2-way VM is not that bad, but unneeded use of 4-way VMs when one or two processors suffice can cost up to 15% of your system throughput. I presume that unnecessarily eight vCPUs would be criminal.

Item 3: ESX Has Not Strictly Co-scheduled Since ESX 2.5

I have documented ESX’s relaxation of co-scheduling previously (Co-scheduling SMP VMs in VMware ESX Server). But this statement cannot be repeated too frequently: ESX has not strictly co-scheduled virtual machines since version 2.5. This means that ESX can place vCPUs from SMP VMs individually. It is not necessary to wait for physical cores to be available for every vCPU before starting the VM. However, as Item 3 pointed out, this does not give you free license to over-size your VMs. Be frugal with your SMP VMs and assign vCPUs only when you need them.

Item 4: The Cell Construct Has Been Eliminated in ESX 4.0

In the performance best practices deck that I give at conferences I talk about the benefits of creating small virtual machines over large ones. In versions of ESX up to ESX 3.5, the scheduler used a construct called a cell that would contain and lock CPU cores. The vCPUs from a single VM could never span a cell. With a ESX 3.x’s cell size of four this meant that VMs never spanned multiple four-core sockets. Consider this figure:

What this figure shows is that a 4-way VM on ESX 3.5 can only be placed in two locations on this hypothetical two-socket configuration. There are 12 combinations for a 2-way VM and eight for a uniprocessor VM. The scheduler has more opportunities to optimize VM placement when you provide it with smaller VMs.

In ESX 4 we have eliminated the cell lock so VMs can span multiple sockets, as item one states. Continue to think of this placement problem as a challenge to the scheduler that you can alleviate. By choosing multiple, smaller VMs you free the scheduler to pursue opportunities to optimize performance in consolidated environments

When your business depends on appointments for its livelihood there may be no greater investment tha

When your business depends on appointments for its livelihood there may be no greater investment than the scheduling software you partner with. Scheduling software is the lifeline for keeping your practice or business running smoothly. So deciding which scheduling software to go with should be taken with the utmost care. It helps to already have an idea of what you need now, as well as plan for the future. But it would make it even easier if you had a good idea of the possibilities to choose from.

A software is only as good as its effective simplicity and the company behind it. Scheduling software should be easy to learn and function, while at the same time efficient in its organizaiton. Make sure the provider has a reliable support system because there will inevitably be questions. One that gives their customers the convenience of email as well as the courtesy of personal interaction. Either way, putting your faith and money in the dependability of your software, you as the customer deserves a reliable support system to help you quickly become fluent in your acquisition and immediately put it to good use.

You are likely not the only one who will need to learn your scheduling software. Office staff will also need to familiarize themselves with the program for the capability of setting appointments. But, that does not mean they should have access to every feature your scheduling software provides. Your chosen software should enable you to set limitations on staff accessability and client accounts to afford both clients and fellow staff members with the privacy and security they deserve.

Scheduling appointments can be as easy as setting aside a time frame for a particular client on a certain day. Or it can be as complicated as scheduling multiple clients to be seen in different designated rooms at the same time with particular equipment. Look for a scheduling software that offers that kind of flexibility and then with room to grow. For instance, is it in your business’ future to accommodate clients with online scheduling? Convenience is a strong incentive for clients to return in the future.

If your plans are to expand, or already managing multiple locations you shouldn’t have to buy a separate scheduling software for each location. A good scheduling software will accommodate both mutual setups along with individual customization for each location to meet everybody’s needs while providing unity. Whether that be different locations that share clients, equipment, or even staff. Your scheduling software should be able to organize your business’ assets for reliable client service.

You have your goals and you have the drive. Don’t let unreliable structuring impede your success. There is a scheduling software that compliments your style. To help you find your right fit take inventory of your present needs as well as your future goals.

Last night I watched He’s Not That Into You. It was really a cute movie and not the “chick flick” I thought it was going to be. I love watching pay-per-view and it was on, so I ordered it. I am becoming more and more of a fan of Jennifer Anniston’s and I wonder what happened to the other “Friends.” We haven’t seen anyone else do much of anything in the past several years from her former TV show. Her story line along with Ben Affleck’s is really touching and I won’t give it away but I identify with her character very much. She’s been in a seven year relationship (I’m going on nine) and they’re very much in love. They have a solid, committed, caring relationship. The other storyline that is my favorite and the cutest is the one with Ginnifer Goodwin and Justin Long. He starts to give her advice about how a guy will act if he’s not into her. He helps her to stop dating guys who don’t like her. The other relationships in the film are just as interesting but not as “cute.” Now that TV is in hiatus, all I seem to do is watch movies or reruns. Most reruns aren’t old enough for me to want to watch them unless they’re on before prime time, in syndication. Two and a Half Men never lets me down. It’s always a laugh out loud, can’t believe they went there, did he really just say that and get away with it, type of good time. I’ll watch an episode of that show…one that I’ve seen four or six times and still crack up like it’s the first time I’ve heard the joke. Berta kills me. She’s so quick and I wish I could be more like her. The way she gets away with being funny and little bit scary, I’d love to take lessons…

My DIRECTV HD DVR will record all of the brand new shows on TV when I can’t watch them, so I don’t miss out on pilots and new series. I use the Scheduler feature quite a bit, too for when I hear about a show that I want to record and I can’t get home to program the DVR player. My satellite TV service is really not that expensive and I get many more channels than I can get from cable.

The summer is going to fly by. It always does. Soon, we’ll be celebrating the 4th of July holi

The summer is going to fly by. It always does. Soon, we’ll be celebrating the 4th of July holiday and after that, August 15th will be here.

On Saturday, August 15th, Manchester United kicks off the 2009/2010 season in the Barclays Premiership as they play Birmingham City at Old Trafford. Other dates of significance are:

Sat Aug 29 Arsenal H

Sat Sep 12 Tottenham Hotspur A

Sat Sep 19 Manchester City H

Sat Oct 24 Liverpool A

Sat Oct 31 Blackburn Rovers H**

Sat Nov 7 Chelsea A

Sat Nov 21 Everton H

Sat Dec 12 Aston Villa H

Sat Jan 30 Arsenal A

Wed Feb 10 Aston Villa A

Sat Feb 20 Everton A

**I have Blackburn in here as significant because I like to watch them play. Not necessarily because they are an important team to beat. Perhaps this season, they’ll get their sporadic act together and become a great team. Doubtful but we’ll see. Anything is possible in the game of football!

Unfortunately, I do not have the TV schedules yet but as long as you have DIRECTV satellite TV, you’re golden and you won’t miss any games. If you have just cable, you’re out of luck because most cable companies forget to add SETANTA to their sports line up. They don’t even offer it as pay-per-view. However, as soon as the schedules are available, I’ll always post them for you in advance so you can plan whether or not you get to stay home and watch the game or if you have to get to a pub to enjoy it!

If you hear about the movie Looking for Eric playing anywhere in the US, let me know about it. I haven’t seen it advertised and I’ve been searching online for it, too. It features Eric Cantona and it’s already playing in the UK.

Thanks to my DIRECTV satellite TV, I am able to see all of my favorite sports on channels like SETANTA. Or if I can’t be at home to watch them live, the DVR Scheduler is there to watch my back! My favorite sports channels are always available on satellite TV and I don’t have to worry about their being unavailable!

Ask people what they think of meetings — especially virtual ones — and they’ll tel

Ask people what they think of meetings — especially virtual ones — and they’ll tell you that most meetings they attend are a waste of time. Why are they a waste of time? Some reasons meetings go bad include:

The right people aren’t there to get things done;

The agenda is unclear or particpants don’t stick to it;

The conference call solution being used lacks visuals.

Meeting solutions company TimeBridge is trying to make meetings better. We’ve reviewed TimeBridge before when it launched as a scheduling application, and I wrote about TimeBridge when video conferencing was added. This week, the company announced their unveiling as a full suite of tools to “run great meetings.”

Some of the new features include:

Let’s Meet ™ — an optimized scheduler for one-on-one meetings

Collaborative agenda — a feature that allows meeting participants to contribute to the meeting agenda

Meeting Time Messenger ™ — an SMS feature to remind participants of the meeting

iPhone Application- – turns your iPhone (s aapl) into a meeting gadget to keep your meeting on track.

Using TimeBridge, you can find the ideal meeting time using a single email and the system will work across companies and calendaring systems, bringing together one or many participants in the scheduling process.

The meeting system can include voice through FreeConference.com and desktop sharing as well as video for up to six people using DimDim technology. The visual features are offered at $8.95 per month or $89 per year, a steal compared to the WebEx-es of the world.

You can send a scheduling message using Let’s Meet in two ways: Let others vote for the time slot from the ones you’ve provided, or propose a time based on your availability which they can see via a visual calendar that shows when you are busy or when you restrict times such as restricting your availability to business hours only.

When you set up a meeting through your TimeBridge dashboard, you can opt for “meeting extras” which are the Meeting Agenda gadget where others can participate in building the meeting agenda and SMS notification where you are prompted to enter mobile numbers for participants. Five minutes before a meeting, all participants are pinged either in email or with SMS. If they are running late, they can respond to the SMS with their status or dial straight into the conference call number to join the meeting.

The TimeBridge iPhone app allows you to access all the meeting setup and participation features to manage your meeting. You can also set up an enhanced address book that syncs with people’s calendar system and will actually show you if they are busy or free if you are trying to call someone. If their calendar is free at the moment you want to call, a green button let’s you know. If their time is blocked off, the button is red.

If you’re team is virtual across a number of time zones, your TimeBridge dashboard can give you a view of all team members and visually show the overlapping hours when everyone is working at the same time and could potentially participate in a team-wide virtual meeting.

Company reps say that they aren’t done yet in terms of adding to their meeting management suite, and they take their feature development cues from GTD guru David Allen. If TimeBridge keeps this up, they may just be creating the Holy Grail of meeting efficiency. Actually holding a good meeting, however, is up to you.

What virtual meeting solution are you using and how is it working for you?
