We went along to Schuh’s press day yesterday and got completely taken over by shoe cravings! Their gold and black knee-high gladiator sandals were a definite highlight, and we can definitely see ourselves rocking those red indian-style sandals on the beach next summer! Good thing some of them come out in only a few weeks time, because some of these shoes will be a nice complement to our FashAddict party outfits this X-mas season…

I went to Schuh’s SS 10 press day today and found way too many shoes to my liking! The press officer was lovely and took my friend and myself through the festival themed showroom, and I can safely say you can find anything you’ll need for next summer in their stores.

The sandals were cute and they had loads of day-to-night styles, as well as some easy styles such as mid-heel sandals, black shoe boots and some fabulous blue brogues which I didn’t get a picture of. It’s safe to say I’ll be renewing my shoe wardrobe next season…

This week I chose the prompt 

3. Find a picture of a shoe that best sums up your personality.

Now I adore shoes, I wouldn’t quite say they’re my raison d’etre but very close. It all stems from my mum who has probably a good 80-100 pairs of shoes, all kept in their boxes with descriptions on the front so she can see quite easily what & where they are. In direct contract to mine which are shoved in wardrobes, under the bed, under the wardrobe, behind the sofas, in a shoe hangy-uppy thing from Ikea, thrown around the bedroom/kitchen/lounge etc. I have a lot of shoes too. Probably getting on for 50-60 pairs. No Imelda Marcos but still a fair few.

I started buying shoes when I first put on weight. I couldn’t wear the clothes I wanted so I reflected my tastes and personality through my shoes. I wear very sensible, flat, black, boring shoes for work but at weekends and when I go out I love bright colours, wedges, heels, anything that stands out a little bit. My current favourites are silver snakeskin wedge sandals with black straps from Next for night and flat green sling backs with a wooden red ladybird on the front from Office about 7 years ago.

I buy shoes I know I’m not going to wear just because I love them (I’ve stopped doing this though now due to leack of funds). I have a sparkly pair of bright pink stilettos with purple piping that I fell in love with in the Schuh sale and had to have even though I knew I wouldn’t wear them. A pair of green knee high boots that look like Peter Pan boots from New Look. And these. My beautiful red, spotty, Irregular Choice heels with a toadstool on the front (main pic). I wore these to the pub once, crippled myself and now just wear them in the house and look in the mirror at how exquisite they are. I hate my feet but feel it necessary to adorn them in beautiful creations (preferably that show off my tattoos) for my viewing pleasure. I love to wear my Dorothy shoes (bright red glitter, pointed toe) from a cheap shop in Bolton, my ’special needs’ shoes as my sister called them, (flat white Mary Janes with pink pelicans all over them) from Office, my 70’s shoes (7 inch wedges, the front wedge alone is 2 inches! in brown suede with a bow) from Moda in Pelle. Any colour, any kind, any shop, any price. I love them all.

If money was no object I still don’t think I’d buy designer shoes. Occasionally I’ll lust after a pair of Jimmy Choos or Ginas that I see on celebs. I have fallen for the YSL Tribute pumps (thanks to Grazia for introducing me to these completely out of reach lovelies) but the shoes that get me going every time are Kurt Geigers. We have a KG shop 5 minutes from work which is just mean. I go and drool over shoes I can’t afford but that make me want to cry they’re that beautiful.

I don’t mean to wear strange coloured or designed shoes, I’m not projecting my ‘wacky’ personality, I just like bright colours and interesting shoes that few others do. My sister was moaning in Australia that she didn’t have shoes to match a new outfit my parents had just bought. I offered to GIVE her my much adored brown, studded gladiators from Next and she said no! She hates my shoes, favouring classic black sandals, Billabong flip flops (which I am admittedly converted too) and the ubiquitous crocs for work.

I’m struggling to find one pair of shoes that fits my personality. I have a number of guises for which different shoes are needed, mummy (black studded ballerinas), employee (boring black patent Mary Janes from M&S), student (my beloved cherry print Birkenstocks), wife (sensible  grey heels from M&S), friend (knee high black boots), piss head (any high wedges that are totally impractical but look fabulous!). Many Next shoes (my current favourite supplier) reflect my personality, especially these but if I had to choose 1 pair I’d go for these classic Kurt Geigers that I be thrilled to own.  They’re lovely, deceptively comfortable, slightly offbeat, stable and surprisingly cheap. Rather like me.

Now that we are all preparing our Christmas wish lists, Christmas would be incomplete without unwrapping our favourite footwear, Irregular Choice.

Hier hat’s jemanden glatt den Schuh ausgezogen. Gesehen neben der Kaufmannskirche.

“Ich irrte gerade hilflos durch den Baumarkt, da kam ein großer breiter Kerl auf mich zu und fragte: ‘Was geht denn mit Ihnen?’. Völlig verdutzt erwiderte ich: ‘Wie, was? Was soll denn bitteschön mit mir gehen!?’. ‘Na schauen Sie mal neben sich’, antwortete der Mann mit einem Fingerzeig auf mein rechtes Bein.

Tatsächlich erblickte ich neben mir eine kleine weiße Maus. Den ganzen Tag ratterte sie neben mir her. Ich habe alles mir human erscheinende versucht, um mein neues ungewolltes Anhängsel los zu werden: Ich ging eine Treppe hinauf, aber irgendwann musste ich diese ja auch wieder runter. Und die Maus wartete schon an der untersten Stufe auch mich. Ich überquerte barfuß einen eiskalten Bach, aber als ich frierend über die Brücke zurück schlotterte, war die Maus auch schon wieder da.

Abends dann erfassten mich Hilflosigkeit und Verzweiflung. Dieses ach so kleine Geschöpf schien mir haushoch überlegen zu sein! Also schrie ich das kleine weiße Wattestäbchen auf vier winzigen Beinchen an: ‘Was ist denn mit dir los? Hast du nichts besseres zu tun, als den ganzen lieben Tag neben mir her zu springen? Keine Frau? Kinder? Was willst du denn von mir?’. Die Maus krabbelte auf meinen Schuh, schiss einen schwarzen Streusel und verschwand – für immer.”

Regent Street Christmas Lights 2009

Over 50,000 gathered last night to see the biggest ever co-ordinated light switch on on London’s Regent Street.  The lights are themed on Disney’s A Christmas Carol.

Jim Carey, Colin Firth and Bob Hoskins switched on the lights.  The Mayor of London Boris Johnson also made a guest appearance.

With only 49 shopping days left until Christmas, the big turn on officially marks the start of the festive shopping period.

The Shoe Guru

Last night saw the Birmingham launch of British soul singer Beverley Knight’s new cosmetics range.

Already launched in the London Selfridges store, Beverley Knight was back home in the Midlands for the Birmingham store launch.

Her new make-up range ‘K by Beverley Knight’ features 15 products, from oil-free foundations through to eyeliners and highlighters especially aimed at darker skin tones. A unique and long-awaited range might I add.

The products were receiving rave reviews (including from me) at her launch last night coinciding with the ‘A Night Of Nationals’ event held at the Birmingham Selfridges beauty department.

With a red carpet (complete with snap happy paparazzi) the event lived up to its “Hollywood Glitz and Glamour” promise.

Whilst we waited for Beverley Knight to make an appearance make-up artists were on hand to give you tips and insider beauty secrets. Although the tickets to this event cost £10.00 they were redeemable against any beauty purchases on the night. This created a major dilemma on my part (so many things to buy!) but thanks to the make-up advisor at the Benefit counter I walked away with the Benefit Velvet Eyeshadow in “where there’s smoke” (so for just £3.50!)

Also there was celeb make-up artist Julian Gozra Lazano who has worked his magic on celebs such as Sophie Ellis Bextor and The Pussycat Dolls.

After enjoying the free drinks and make-up tutorials, it was time for Beverley Knight’s appearance. She looked wonderful! After an amazing performance singing hits such as ‘Greatest Day’ we then had a chance to meet the British Queen of Soul (who is the nicest person ever).

Sorry about the blurry picture but nearly all the ladies at the event (including me and my friend) fell in love with Beverley’s zebra print heels. The heels are from Red or Dead…I couldn’t seem to find them anywhere online so try popping into your local Schuh store for a look.

I don’t know what’s happened to me lately. I seem to have turned a fashion corner and suddenly my shoe envy knows no bounds. I bought two amazing pairs from Schuh for a total of £25 (with free shipping and £5 off by using the discount code ONLINE) and now I’ve been browsing their site and have found no less than twenty pairs I’d also like to own. Eeep.

New Globe shoe is coming out in Spring/Summer 2010 in collaboration with Cleptomanicx, that was the reason why we invited a couple of friends this weekend to a haunting trip on a barge along the beautiful waterfont area of hamburg city. Eel buffet and drinks inclusive, totally to our taste and musically underlined by St0ecker Stereo/Blockparty and Buzz-T/Fingerprints. Even the afterparty at Grüner Jäger has been a great success – Here are some picts to enjoy…

Ich glaub es schaukelt noch immer ein wenig, denn am Samstag übernahm der Cpt. die Barkasse Hedi, um für vier Stunden durch den Hamburger Hafen zu schippern.  Grund dafür ist der neue Globe Schuh, der in Kollaboration mit Cleptomanicx im Sommer 2010 erscheinen soll.

Der Cpt. tauschte zunächst mit Gleichgesinnten ein  bisschen Fachwissen  aus, fachsimpelte über Ebbe und Flut, diskutierte über Back -und Steuerbord, bevor…

er mit ein paar einleitenden Worten aale Anwesenden begrüsste und das Buffet eröffnete. Daumen hoch meint Buelent!

Es gab AAL-Lollies, AAL-Brötchen aalso eigentlich aales was das Herz begehrt…

langsam wurde es muckelig an Bord und später recht ausgelassen…

Ach so und das ist übrigens der Schuh um den es sich handelt, hier zu sehen in einer roten Netzstrumpfhose…
