But given currently that you have classic Constitution class Starship providing next to it a Klingon Bird of Prey, and love tuning your racy YT-1300 Corellian light freighter in your drydock, or that you love tweaking them also.

This year has been an interesting year for Cosplay at Armageddon Auckland 2012. There’s been more adventurous creativeness ones this year.  Also some of the classic ones like the Star Wars and Star Trek genre, there have been more in storm troopers in variant uniforms between the two of three trilogies also the clone wars, mostly done by the 501^st legion, as to Star Trek there’s been the classic TOS series, also the post TNG series during to Ambassador Jean Luc Picard time.

As to comics it was matched in between the Marvel and DC characters, The Avengers  Thor and his brother Loki, also other justice of the league mainly a few superman’s, and Supergirl. Also the injustice alyssum characters as well. There was another interesting mix Watchmen also added to the mix there were some Anime and Manga .

Also retro cosplay is coming back in, Ghostbusters. Steam punk is still the classic vintage but just wondering when Electro punk is coming in. As to gaming Master Chief tops it for the newly release of Halo four, in which the game is supported by a Halo intriguing written web series| Forward unto Dawn in con junction of Machima and 343 Industries.   Following the lead is the Assassin creed cosplays from the previous series; also a new comer is the prequel Lara Croft for the up and coming game which is due out next year.

What’s so pretty different than to last year is that there’s more creativeness, as so cosplayed Doctor who creativity, of girls in Tardis and Dalek dresses, also some pretty cool unique individual ones, also there’s one whom featuring Codex| Cyd Sherman’s in game character The Guild played by the Felicia Day.

Probably not Young Adult though the story is largely told from the perspective of a young woman, who starts out the story a few days shy of 18, but the majority of the story takes place some years later.

All space, all the time, no fantasy (except the fiction part of the science of course.) Hopefully semi hard, adventure fiction with some interesting characters, situations and background.

Started on the first, did post progress yesterday, and did a lot more today.  But its going to slow down again as the initial rush of ideas fueled by all my prep thinking and doodling founders in the reality of actually having to write all those fun ideas down.   (and for there is an ‘event’ coming that may cause me to crash out…but who knows what the future holds.)

This year the Armageddon calendar sync back to the pre Rugby world cup, which is good in the way, that there were more stalls, some accommodating more retail floor space than of last years.  Mostly  of the stalls generally  occupy the Pavilion one, in which are dominating mostly gaming studios,  Sony is one of the largest stall holders, then to the Microsoft Xbox, in down came to Blizzard, Acitivsion EA games, then to a few new entrants this year Alienware and Razor, orthough I’m surprise that they were on the other Pavilion.  Among the other stalls are to off are comic stalls such as Gotham Comics, and behind the wall Hero for sale, with their guest  comic artist in which you could get an autograph sign works or a custom drawn works from the artist.  Just face to face of the Comic stall holders is the gaming Magic the gathering  tournaments which held  was held during the three day weekend, plus there was some spot prizes along the way, like booster game card packs.

Within the Pavilion one, there were a majority of game releases, such there was in the Xbox stall the release of Halo 4, which was jam pack like the interstate 405 during Carmeggeddon of people waiting to try out in turns with spot prizes in massive queues.  And could say least for the Dishonour though, in saying Xbox could have set up an individual stall booth for Halo 4, and do replays of Machinima prime and 343 industries’s Halo Forward unto Dawn to promote the series, and the game play.  With Xbox, there was also the Kinect gaming system also, with the Star wars game and sporting aspects, watching the Kinect stall, I wonder how Microsoft lost the opportunism of showing what the Kinect system can really do, and advertise in promoting the social, education, gaming also shopping nature of its ecosystem within those three days.

Within the Acitivsion | Blizzard there was pretty much an emphasis on the MMORPG World of Warcraft, on the Mist of Pandaria also another MMO Diablo new release also Star Craft.  Orthough I’ll be nice if they did an inductionary live stream session to get people into the game with some specials and a game store shop with game mechanise, instead of having EB games retailing it for them.  Also the Call of Duty, I’m remarkably surprise also that giving its one of the most popular first person shooter games akin to Battlefield series. It had a smaller booth.

The Next stop with EA. EA’s booth is pretty interesting, the pretty much beefed up for this year. One thing their booth had almost the largest floor space yet, covering an internal gaming area, where you could do multiplayer gaming on medal of Honour, in a camouflage setting environment.  Also with some Nerffing gun firing range happening to see how far you could Nerf.  Alongside of the is the newly release of the Need for speed- most wanted. Also interesting that there wasn’t any promotion of Star Wars the old republic, due to the that there was other MMORPG’s promoted in the Acitivsion | Blizzard stand. Also in promotion Crysis three,

Apart from other stalls is the Sony, traditionally, demonstrating the newly PlayStation items, such as the newly Psvita, wonderbook, Also the promotionally it third person action adventure Gods of War game.  As right next to the Sony stall a new comer to these years is Alienware promoting its extreme Hard core gaming machines to the first time introductionally used in the Con the Alienware’s Pod, it’s a sit in cockpit console with tri-wide screens, with a combination of gaming peripherals.  The first time I’ve encountered the Alienware Pod is a many several months ago when they were launching Battlefield 3 globally in New Zealand, the Battlefield 3 New Zealand is amazing experience seeing how the game works, and seeing others awarded with spot prizes also lots cool swag.  Among within the Alienware’s booth is the mini basketball court.

In opposition of the of the Xbox is the Nintendo stand covering almost the same area of the Activision | Blizzard stand covering most of the Wii U game consoles, and it portable Nintendo 3DS products in a nice white contemporary environment, in right adjunction to the Nintendo’s stall is Ubisoft’s stall where they were show casing some upcoming games such as Assassin’s Creed three, Farcry three, Zombi U, Just Dance four, Sonic All stars. Also within the same booth is the preview demonstration release of Crystal Dynamics| Square Enix’s Lara Croft’s Tomb Raider, in a seductive timing dosage of prescriptive game play, interesting also that there was least promotionally for the series of Tomb Raider as to the more of the hype to Xbox Halo four.  Orthough Tomb raider is still one of my favourite single player games I still enjoy from taking restfully moments away from doing MMORPG on Star trek Online. I was hoping for more the same promotionally push they they’ve done for Comic Con San Diego 2012 with promotional footage from Zach Levi’s Nerd Machine.

On the unexpected week that lies ahead of Stardate 8130.3 that continues, the USS Reliant NCC- 1864 was on a routine exploration tour to look for suitable planets or planetoids that was devoid of life forms to partake in a the third cycle phase of testing of the Classified Genesis project to further the colonisation federation programme without the hindrance of the Prime Directive.

On the same week the Unexpected happen they found Khan and his remaining Augments crew of the (Sleeper Ship) SS Botany Bay an old DY-100, relicly maroon by Captain Kirk long time ago, on the week of Stardate 3141.9, after a failed hijacking incident lead by Khan therefore exiling the Augments to the planet within the Mutara Sector, Ceti Alpha Six.  Further years have passed, until Reliant, were scanning surfaces of the planet Ceti Alpha Six, but were mistaken for Ceti Alpha five.  As the Ceti Alpha Five terrain change due to Ceti Alpha Six destruction.  Until they meet Khan and his Augments in the shadow, the away team of two captured and tortured, until an interesting topic was Genesis. They settled out in their escape from prison in Reliant, to purse the Enterprise.  Regulus Station.

Somehow I accidently stumble on to this Gangnam Style with a mix of Star Wars after watching the star trek version, brilliant done by Mindy Strater “The Mindy Mouse Show” for one of  the largest Star Wars convention in Orlando, in Florida, celebrating the sixth Star Wars Celebration.  Also she does a tour of Orlando Florida Disney on her you tube channel.

You could check out her cool channel on the Mindy Strater’s Mindy Mouse Show, also on Funatics TV - Documentaries on the progressive life of the world of Dinsey.

And to be honest I find it impossible to write good Fantasy even though some of my favorite authors have easily spanned the gap.  What I ended up writing every time was really SciFi in an Urban Fantasy or Steam Punk setting…and I kind of like the results though Elgin is the first that’s been completed.  But this isn’t SciFi in the ‘Hard’ sense, nor is it SteamPunk, RetroPunk, Urban pr Contemporary Fantasy.  It’s at an angle to all of those, I like to think of it as a type of SciFi, what I call Quantum Punk or QuantPunk based on the mind (and imagination) bending possibilities our quantum universe opens as a basis for something that is at once Science Fiction and Urban/Contemporary Fantasy.

Elgin’s new life is….complicated.

Elgin’s old life was nothing much, Beauty Wyoming was as beautiful and remote as one could get, a town of cowboys and Indians, in a setting of rangeland, mountains and lakes. Elgin Chalmer’s was a cowboy and a part breed black-sheep slacker living with his huge Siamese cat Humph in a forty-year old trailer. Life was OK for Elgin, he didn’t want much and didn’t get any more. Then one raw snowy day he made the mistake of heading into the mountains with a gut full of whiskey and a head muddled by rotten drugs…death came easily considering.

And that was when things started to get really messy. A world of alien dangers and powers were waking up after two thousand years in hibernation and humanity’s protector needed a new helper. Now Elgin found himself dealing with flesh-eating lizard girls, ancient spider monsters, along with werewolves and vampires who didn’t always play by the rules. And on top of it all he had to get used to eating sharks, raw and still fighting.

But now of course he had a chance to meet up with the cool girls; The Wiccan proprietor of the local New-Age gift shop, with an ancient Indian totem in her basement, the pistol packing deputy with a secret, and the beautiful Russian spy with a heart of gold and the killer instincts of a she wolf.

This book was started as a submission for the National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo, (www.nanowrimo.org) is run by a tiny nonprofit called he Office of Letters and Light, an organization that promotes writing in all its glorious permutations among the young, young at heart, and not so young (among whom I fall in the right hand distribution tail these days.) I wrote the first 60,000 words or so of Elgin in November 2011 and finished the remaining half by February 2012, since then, among many other things, my father and I have been editing so I can submit it for publication at Smashwords, iBooks, B&N, etc.

The ancient human commander of the Compact Cartographic Cruiser Bostonian is less sure of his road home, because his birth world is an utterly unrecognizable and all he had once known is dust. Now his place and his friends all reside in the vastness of the Compact, all except for the one person he can’t live without.

Everyone starts out following the rules. But rules are meant to be bent especially when a civilization is on the edge of a war it does not understand the reason for. And while the Qang Smugglers might look cute and cuddly their ruthless arrogance is about to get them into deadly danger, and their stupidity may be the trigger needed to start an interstellar war of unthinkable destructiveness.

It’s Halloween, coming up on the 31st October every year, also known as  All Saint’s day, There’s one other way to fill the night instead of watching repeativve scary televised movies after the neighbourhood children have finish there trick or treating.  It pays to dim the lights down, and leave a slight small opening of the window blinds just in case to see what lures around, outside  in luring suspicion in the dark, maybe it’s the ruffle of the wind, or the fallen Autumn Maple red tan leaves that swiling in the wind casing a walking dark shadow that among with the  sound of windy draft hallows.  You could do a scary Doctor Who  playlist lets start of with somethng even more mentally frighting than the Daleks.

They say the weeping Angels are quantum lock that maybe the reason they’re stone, forever form in ivory stoned, and just as old has the universe. Some say that they move stealth silently, some say the only way how to defeat a weeping Angel is to have to eye each other. Others say they when you blink, they closer even more in stealth assassin like, and when they’re hungry day or night, they feed on you  sending  you back in time.

I tend to focus less on sci-fi, but this was on, I like the Apes movies and I like James Franco and feel like we can hang out (that may be due to watching freaks and geeks too much, but anyway…) I checked it out.

In general, I find back stories and prequels to be pretty unnecessary since we know how things turn out and aren’t stupid and can surmise where they began. This movie is no different to me, the origin story is obvious. I do actually like the cgi for a change, I think Franco’s character is heartfelt and caring about the apes and Gollum as Caesar is badass. And the story is the usual sad reflection of how so many people dismiss the rights and feelings of animals, especially the ones they exploit. This adds depth to the empathy I already felt toward the Apes.  Franco conveys this role seriously and never once drops the bong.

However there is a truly amazing scene on the bridge where the Apes take their stand and then, wow, then there is this:

The second was one of my favorites “THEM!”  Now I’m sure many of you have seen this movie on late or early morning shows and kind of dismiss it as a goofy movie about giant ants.  Don’t. Take another look at it.  It explores the  consequences of entering the atomic age and what we are doing to this planet. By taking something that we would consider insignificant because of its size and now making it the predator and we, the prey.

The characters are all very firm in their roles.  Keep in mind, you have some pretty big names in this: Edmund Gwenn, James Arness, James Whitmore.  And if you pay attention and look closely you’ll get to see & hear Leonard Nimoy.  I won’t tell you when, you’ll have to find that out for yourself.  There are some great lines and moments throughout but it never lets go of the seriousness of the situation.  And I guarantee you’ll flinch when the little girl comes out of her shocked state and screams in terror “THEM!”

Each time I watch it, I get to a certain point towards the end and hope it’ll turn out differently.  No I don’t root for the ants. But I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it. Yes I think there might be some out there who haven’t.   This movie started the giant bug trend and it always fascinates me how they accomplished back then without the help of computers.  It was all imagination, creativity and the work from your hands.

The next time it’s on..take a closer look at it.

There’s one thing is being a Fleet/ guild is one of the greatest experiences socially, In which I’m currently in. they’re a great bunch of people covering in all great distances of the planet, but when you’re in game the distances are close by. Sometimes you’ll make more online, in-game friends than on other social media networks such as Facebook, or even on Twitter.

Sometimes being in one, there’s a sense of being in a coffee tea house, you’ll stay along, depending what’s the flavour of the beverage of the day or night is. Sometimes you’ll get invited to a different table, doing PVE (player vs. environment), or PVP (player vs. Player) but one thing in particular in gaming you somehow respect the person in a PVP in winning or losing the match, in return the person/ player will do the same, learning what you could do learning more after what you could do win the next match even if you lost, otherwise there will be no game.

On some nights you’ll spend some times alone in game, or in the Coffee and Tea house, and on some you’ll meet up and catching up, and doing teaming PVE’s or mission episode together,  also depend what mission level you are also, also too sharing the rewards ingame . But one thing I did notice it creates a more social learning experience to creating a team together, also learning how to manage, to solve problems together where it’s in or out game related by communicating each other through in game chat.

In some ways you’ll end up have more ingame friends that you’re other social media than to Facebook, twitter, or maybe Google Plus. Plus you’ll may leave a guild/ Fleet in the past I’ve left two fleets, one that no one was around later on and they falling apart in the process that the Fleet members haven’t played for quite some time, the second the fleet was moderately large, but it  later It out grew itself and  have internally falling out. , later on in the process I left and join up with a smaller fleet in which is founded by the previous members of the second, and it’s growing as a family. In a previous post I mention Fleet bases, and how it helps in building a home, how it challenges, and to work for in creating a fleet or a guild with a focus.  There’s another reason I like Star trek online is the responsibilities that comes with it to time share un conditionally the caretaking of the fleet, due to  respectively of gaining progressive rankings throughout the fleet,  also the learning aspects of the responsibilities in communicating and  managing of a virtual team which it is  an awesome learning experience.
