Well, this is one of the first actual contributing things I’ve done for people that visit my blog!

Zenergyx3’s Quick Scope Guide

(based on Modern Warfare 2, but this should generally work for all games)

Quick scoping is a form of sniping employed by some of the professionals at a game because of both the agility and the speed of it. A quick scope is when the player sees the enemy target while he or she is unscoped. Then, while moving the screen to align with the target and also zooming in, the player shoots, hitting and killing the target if the shot was placed accurately.

Quick scoping is a very fast and versatile way of sniping, but to quick scope properly you need to have fast reactions and a good hand-to-eye coordination. Quick scopes, done properly, can dominate in both long ranges where a sniper rifle would be superior at anyway, and also in tight situations where an enemy is right in your sniper’s nest.

Quick scoping works best with one-hit-kill weapons, or at least OHK most of the time because the enemy won’t have time to react after your shot lands on them.

If you’d like an example of quick scoping, iBlaCKOuTz xX’s Genocidal V2 montage is perfect. His video shows a true example of a skilled quick scoper.

The most common type of quick scope is the ‘drag scope’, because it’s effective and it’s the easiest type of quick scope. You aim into the scope pointing towards the enemy when you see them, quickly drag your crosshairs across the target and shoot as soon as you see them on your crosshairs. This is relatively simple to do. Mastering this type of quick scope will make your overall gameplay better, as you are more accurate with other weapons aswell as sniper rifles.

For Modern Warfare 2, Sleight of Hand Pro increases your aim-down-sight speed, and so makes your quick scoping faster. Using an ACOG or a Thermal scope also increases your speed of quick scoping.

I would recommend practicing quick scoping in a private match before you try quick scoping in a public server just to get the feel of it. Practice on a narrow target, or something that is nearly the same size as another player. Aim to the left or right of it, and try to quick scope it by dragging, aiming in on the target, and of course pulling the trigger. Your mouse or controller sensitivity should be set as high as you feel comfortable with. I set my sensitvity on Modern Warfare 2 on X360 to 8, because I can aim extremely fast while keeping enough precision.

The faster you can turn and aim = more time to shoot and a lower possibility dying. This is very important for quick scoping.

Other types of quick scopes include the jump shot and the 360 degree jump shot. A jump shot is essentially jumping and shoot when you jump. The idea is to be hidden behind an object before jumping up, aiming and hitting your target. A 360 degree jump shot is EXTREMELY hard, and is usually achieved by jumping off a building while an enemy is somewhere below. With a high sensitivity, the person spins around in a 360 degree revolution while he or she is jumping and as soon as the player sees an enemy while spinning around in mid air, they scope, aim and shoot. Sounds tough to do, eh?

On an extra note, I’ve gotten x2 headshots in mid air, using one bullet. Got 3 challenges finished with that lucky shot.

Well I hope you’ve enjoyed my quick scope guide. Good luck with your quick scope achievements in the future.

I’ll be off with my Intervention, headshotting some noobs.

Yesterday was an awkward day. After numerous valiant efforts to get the experiment going, I decided to go and watch Avatar at 5:30. Made it to the 7:45 show, thanks to Pittsburgh port authority’s timely service. I shouldn’t be complaining though, the service is free for us. Hence, it doesn’t make a valid case to complain. Anyways, after watching the movie, I was all charged up to make the experiment work; to make the microscope obey my commands… To get the laser and the CCD camera capture the best shots for my experiment. I would make it work, and emerge victorious like jacksully in the movie.
So I came in and began my experiments. I have a different wetlab than the place where the scope is. So I went there to get something. Qhen I came back, I saw Santa on my scope.
Well it was my Boss there at 11:20 pm at night. He figured out a new problem.JIm my eyes, a “supervisor” is a species who should have been ideally called a question mark. He/ She will always have a new problem ready for you. Irrespective of whether you have solved the last problem that he posed for you. That reminds me of the character “question mark” in the movie with ” abba, Jabba, chabba”. I think it was either judai or raja babu. Anyways, without digressing, coming back to the situation:
So he told me that the images when viewed though the scope had a spot. He was right. Now my entire focus shifted to solving this one. I worked for the next couple of hours, doing things that would seem really stupid to my friends who do statistics or computational chemistry. However, in experimantal things there is no pre-decided way (normally). You have to find your way. So I fixed the problem. It required cleaning up the eyepiece lens of the microscope. There was some slimey greasy thig on it. And I did it in style!
When I informed the Boss through an email that I was successful at troubleshooting, he was happy. Now that makes my day at 2 am in the morning and makes me a little more excited than I am for my Vegas trip tomorrow.

Are we obsessed with perfection? We are taught to strive for the perfect education, the perfect house, the perfect career. The list can go on. Is it any surprise that projects are constantly striving for the perfect solution with an enormous set of requirements and capabilities?

This inevitably has a detrimental impact on the overall programme as it will usually result in project overrun in terms of cost and delivery schedule. The overall complexity of the programme spirals upwards and for no tangible business benefits.

Pragmatists learn to deal with uncertainty and are flexible enough to workaround the imperfections that is all around us. The real world is in a constant state of flux and dominating forces seek to establish a new equilibrium. The greatest facet of any system must be it’s abilitiy to adapt to new challenges.

Well engineered systems are designed to tolerate imperfections and incorporate infrastructures that are flexible and adaptable. A strong set of foundations and robust design principles form the building blocks for an agile, flexible and extensible solution that can rapidly evolve to support the changing business needs without costing a fortune.

If I send my kid to a fantastic fee based school, does that guarantee me a well founded adult with a amazing career prospects? Probably. Is it possible for someone who has gone to a less than perfect school to achieve incredible success despite the constraints of their educational background? Absolutely.

Can we learn from the realities of imperfection and make it work to our advantage? Whilst we should always aim for high standards, the reality is that in complex corporate environments, it is near impossible to please everyone. So why not aim for less and get there quicker and for cheaper?

Business success relies upon innovation, cost and speed to market. Speed is of the essence. If I can get half of what I think I need then that is a lot better than getting all of what I realize is not what I need. Let’s embrace uncertainty and seek to achieve our dreams through greater collaboration in smaller steps.

All human interactions are driven by the same two simple and yet powerful emotions of Greed over Fea

All human interactions are driven by the same two simple and yet powerful emotions of Greed over Fear. At some level, these emotions drive almost every aspect of our daily lives. Most of us have learnt our thresholds for when to say yes (greed) versus no (fear) for any given situation.

As recent shockwaves continue to ripple through the economy, IT spend on consulting has come under pressure and opportunities are greatly reduced. Clients have adopted the “more-for-less” mantra and are extremely demanding.

Whilst many consultancies will safeguard their integrity, others will make sacrifices to win and retain the business. This results in a “bent-over” mode of consulting. Once this mode of working has been established, the client will not allow the consultant to adopt a standing-tall position.

The pitfall of this approach is that when things start to go wrong and the client needs a consultant who can talk independently and truthfully (eg can stand tall), they will call in someone else.

Many consultants often face the situation where a client demands more and is unwilling to compromise on budget or timescales. Management and engineering discipline teaches us the theory of elasticity. The scope, estimates and schedule are based on some initial set of agreed assumptions and have an pre-factored margin for error.

In any case, the rate of burn of effort against the baseline provides a good indicator of trend and risk for the programme. Using such discipline and also the benefit of past experience, a consultant must protect the programme schedule and engagement margin by standing firm for ongoing uncosted change requests.

Unfortunately, clients will often interpret this as inflexible, unreasonable and unproductive behaviour by the consultant. Sometimes it is better to give the client bad news and say No to safeguard the project from unnecessary risks.

It is better to walk away from a project at the outset than to enter into an engagement under the illusion that somehow the client can be reined in to accept a more realistic set of outcomes at a later date after the job has been sold and contracts signed. Smart consultants must focus on tilting the project odds towards success rather than failure. The No word is an important asset that must be used sparingly but without compromise where integrity, credibility and reputation are at stake.

Today I thought about the scope of Symbll. There are three options I am considering. The first option is to keep the game entirely in one location, with only one mall per scenario, where the player has to deal with only the problems of managing the layout inside of one mall. The second option is to expand the game into the entire world, with multiple malls that the player has to keep working with and developing. The third option is to create a hybrid of sorts, where the players create only one mall per scenario, but after they are done with the scenario they will be able to manage all of the malls they have created. In this hybrid model a player would choose whatever scenario appealed to them (out of a map of the world), and then only focus on that scenario’s objectives or goals. Once those goals are met then there would be an option for open play, where players can manage all of their previously created malls from other scenarios. I’m leaning towards the third option. This will allow for players to feel that their work doesn’t just end after the scenario is over. I was thinking about Sim City or Roller Coaster Tycoon where you have your own creation, each build for a different set of purposes, but you can’t interact between them all. There was also Pizza Tycoon from Microprose, where the player could select from a major city on the world map and begin their own pizza chain in that city. After building a pizza chain that was raising decent capital you could expand to other cities. The only downside was that there were no scenarios to challenge the player. Once you had an idea of how to create a decent pizza chain you could just apply it with a few changes in another city. My goal is to make Symbll accessible for people who need the structure of scenarios along with making sure that players feel their efforts actually create something usable after the scenario is over.

I also found a few sources for inspiration on the icons/symbols that will be used in Symbll. I haven’t looked over all of these yet, but they look very promising. It made me realize how much diversity there can be in symbols. I started working on a few icons a few nights ago, but only got 3 or 4 done. I need some more inspiration, and this might help tremendously.

Project Thunderbird is an automated predator and pest control system. It consists of a pellet gun mounted in a motorized base. The icing on the cake is a 60x zoom camera that has cross-hairs superimposed on the picture. This reminds us of the Internet hunting for the handicap we heard about years ago.

In the video after the break you can see how the motorized base works, watch the trigger-pull motor, and observe a demonstration of some target practice. The creator, [Gadgetapodimus], mentions the possible sale of plans and kits as soon as he completes the system. Perhaps it would be better if this was not easy for people to build.

Its over.

One week of feeding frenzy art exposure that had as little to do with the act of the individual expression of divine inspiration as a car show. Art Basel Miami, exhibited at the convention center and other locations around town, was all about the commodification of art. Like the stock market. Thousands of people milling around halls and halls, and booths and booths stuffed with art ready to take the gamble like they were looking for a lucrative stock portfolio.

An art overdose. An art oxymoron. OK. I know. You gettit. But let me tell you, among all that art and trend, there was hardly any Green. I’d been pitching the story of “what’s new in green art” to websites like Planet Green, Inhabitat and Treehugger, but phew I’m glad I got no bites because there was nothing to report. No thing. Nada. NADA was incidently the name of the edgier art show at the Deauville Hotel in North Beach, walking distance from my home, where the Beatles had played in the sixties and it hasn’t been renovated since. The stale baroque carpet and duck taped doors were supposedly cool and funky, and so all the cool and funky peole stayed there. But my favorite show was Pulse, at the old Ice factory, where that whacky halloween party took place a month ago, the best art, the best setting, the most together mix of people. Pulse’s old warehouse environment did not diminsh the art as much as the convention center (still reeking from last month’s wine show) did. Like Pulse had Maria Jose Arjona, the Pain Resistant performance artist who stood on blocks of ice spiked with large nails, which became exposed as the ice slowly melted. As a fakir she stood all day, blocking out pain, cold and the sight of drones of people ew-ing and ah-ing, watching, pointing and laughing. One woman in the audience said, “OH NO, her hair keeps falling across her eyes.” “Please,” I said, “thats the least of her problems. Like hypothermia and tetanus come to mind…?”

Is art shown at a trade-show still art? Or is it f-art? I mean there are trade shows for everything commercial. Cars, wine, porn, furniture and fashion all use trade shows as a means to connect to their markets. But isn’t art more? And best understood within the context of the artist’s life, mind, raw loft, rickety farmstead? Call me a romantic, but I want the entire art experience. I used to do trade shows myself. Every season, sometimes four times a year, in London when I had a collection called Giraf and then again in New York at the Javitz when I did a kids clothing line, called Baby Gordon. And I can tell you, with authority, that trade shows are like being cast into outer philistine space. They suck unless you’re really really hot. But boredom and not inspired creativity was modus operandus at Basel Miami where the art representatives escaped on their MACs, traveling to virtual worlds (Googling old boyfriends?) beyond their tiny cubicle and the bourgeois crowds.

Today I will employ a simple example to highlight the concept of scope creep.

On a warm spring day, Vince decided it was time to clean his garage. His collection of magazines, boxes of baseball cards, sports gear, and old shoes needed to be put away, filed, or donated. He moved the car out of the garage so that he could have it out of the way and get to the business of cleaning. As he moved the car out, he realized it could use a good cleaning too. So he got the soap, bucket, and hose and began washing the car. Once the outside was done, Vince decided that he might as well get the vacuum cleaner and get the inside cleaned also. Once the inside was cleaned, he convinced himself that the outside of the car could use a good waxing to bring out that true color. There was only enough wax for the front bumper and hood, so Vince made a run to the hardware store to pick up some more wax. When he got back home, his search for the electric buffing machine led him to the attic. When he got to the attic, he said to himself, boy, the attic could use some tidying up too. He started straightening out the attic and before you know it, the garage was filled with more boxes and stuff that he brought down from upstairs. The Attic is a bit cleaner, and so his car, but the garage is worse off than before.

Vince has just experienced what is commonly referred to in project management as scope creep. Scope creep occurs when the scope of a project is not properly defined or controlled. The result of this usually leads to unsuccessful achievement of the original goal. Vince’s car and attic may look cleaner than before, but his objective that day was to clean his garage. As a project manager, one has to employ a laser like focus and discipline when it comes to performing the tasks of the project. At each step of the way, any new actions need to be scrutinized and held against the original scope statement. If this is not done, then a project manager risks the wastage of precious resources and most likely, unmet project objectives.

For any work you do, there are always constraints. In an ideal world, free of constraints, you can create anything you want because you have all it takes to get the job done. However, we do not live in an ideal world. There is always budget limitations, priorities, time to market, minimum features needed for a product to be introduced to the market, nice to have features, qualified resources, etc.

Constraints can be broadly categorized into: Scope, Time, and Budget. If one of these change, one or both of the remaining constraints must change. Think of the constraints as the three vertices of a triangle. When you move one vertex, the shape of the triangle changes. To balance the triangle, the other vertices must be adjusted.

For instance, if there is a threat of the competition entering the market first and if time to market is key, then your triangle has shifted. There is always a minimum set of features (scope) needed for a product to be successful. You cannot sell a pen that wont write. However, you can introduce the pen in one color for starters and add other colors later, assuming you are not selling a multicolored ink pen. Another approach is to add more resources and money into the project to speed-up the time-line. You can do one or both in this situation to be the first to market. A little bit of creative thinking can also help you to get the job done. Is there anyone who wants to volunteer on the project to gain these skills within your company? You have a free part-time resource for your product now!

Hey, guys. This, the third post in this series, deals with the relative Scope of a scientific hypoth

Hey, guys. This, the third post in this series, deals with the relative Scope of a scientific hypothesis, the degree of diversity in those phenomena predicted and explained by it. This is, of course, the complement of the first Criteria described, Testability and Fruitfulness, as well as those which come later in this series, Simplicity and Conservatism.

Scope is an important indicator of a hypothesis’ ability to organize and unify our understanding of that which it describes, and this reduces the likelihood that it is false. It is summed up by the following guideline:

All else being equivalent, a superior hypothesis is that which predicts and explains the greatest diversity of phenomena.

Let’s use a good real-world example of an idea with a broad scope in comparison with other prior theories, General and Special relativity. Relativity theory had more power to systematize and unify our knowledge than it its predecessor, Newtonian mechanics, as it explained and predicted things that the latter could not, as well as providing an mechanism for gravity that Newtonian theory lacked.

It explained, for one thing, the perturbations in Mercury’s orbit that were under Classical physics mistaken for the gravitational influence of a hypothetical, and never observed, planet closer to the Sun: Vulcan.

This orbital disturbance was discovered to be caused, not by a hypothetical planet, but by the increased curvature of spacetime resulting from the Sun’s gravity when Mercury was at its closest approach. Relativity has also provided insights into the nature of the relationship between mass and energy, allowing us to tap the power of the atom, and its precision and explanatory power allow the efficient use of Global Positioning Systems as well as broadening and deepening the use of Newtonian theory for more precise astronautics.

This superior Scope was a compelling argument in favor of Relativity, for one physicist at the Paris Academy of Sciences is known to have said:

This theory is the only one that permits one actually to represent all of the known experimental facts and that possesses moreover the remarkable power of prediction confirmed in so astonishing a manner by the deviation of light rays and the displacement of spectral lines in the gravitational field of the sun.

I’ll see you again, tomorrow evening, when I present the fourth post, that on the Criterion measuring the logical coherence and Simplicity of a hypothesis. Fnord.

The hottest deal of the summer can now be yours! This lightweight single shot air rifle is equipped with removable scope with fixed reticle and adjustable elevation sight. For those covert ops missions you can use the removable adjustable bipod. Clip holds 20 rounds of 6 mm bullets. Not too heavy and easy to operate but, this is not a toy! Disclaimer: Federal law requires orange tips. Do not remove the orange tip found on your airsoft gun.
