Motion Pictures depend on a variety of elements to create an overall film structure that will give a

Motion Pictures depend on a variety of elements to create an overall film structure that will give a particular movie meaning. One very important element is that of sound. When used properly, it can be a key source in providing specific emotions to a given scene. There are three types of sound used in motion pictures. They are dialog, effects, and music. This essay will focus on music in motion pictures, the steps used for creating a film score, and the functions it has in helping to set a more powerful film structure.

When a composer begins the production of a film score, there are five steps the music must go through before completion. Spotting, cue sheet preparation, composing, performance and recording, and mixing. The creation of the musical elements in a film must take place in post-production. In fact it is one of the last things added to a film because spotting is dependent on the final cut. During the process, the composer, director, and producer watch the final cut and determine where and when music added will have climaxes, come out soft, or not be present at all. It is basically the moment where the composer learns what music is needed in a particular film. Other important things are determined, including tempo, emotional force, and musical cues. In the film Return to Me, director Bonnie Hunt found it appropriate to add these three elements to a scene where Minnie Driver’s character, Grace Briggs, is receiving a heart transplant and David Dochovny’s character, Bob Rueland, has lost his wife in an accident. As the heart from Bob’s wife is transferred to Grace, the music cue begins as Grace’s grandfather waits in a hospital chapel praying that the operation will succeed, the music of Angel Standing By by Jewel, brings emotion with a very slow dragging tempo, signifying how long and hard the wait is to see if Grace will live, At the same time, a montage combines the hospital waiting scene with a shot of Bob in his home, mourning the loss of his wife. The music’s slow pace again helps the audience to feel how long and horrible the night is, as he contemplates his future without her. It is a very gripping scene that passes time through a number of dissolve fades, and when the music ends with the sound of the new heart beating successfully and Bob waking up in the morning, a period of about three actual minutes to the audience seems to have been an entire restless night because the music gave that sort of tempo and emotional response. The effects the music creates in this scene were all premeditated while spotting the final cut.

Tym razem płyta tygodnia pewnie mogłaby zostać też płytą miesiąca. Album Score grupy The RAah Project bez trudności pokonałby konkurencję.

Mamy następców Jazzanovy, Big Bandu Herberta, Jaga Jazzist, Cinematic Orchestra?

Posłuchajcie co nieco, np. singlowego Will You Be There lub hiciarskiego Covered Up In Stars.

THE CANADIAN PRESS

EDMONTON — With the puck nestled in the net and the crowd at Rexall Place roaring, Patrick O’Sullivan threw his arms in the air and looked skyward in a goal celebration that seemed equal parts relief and elation.

There was plenty of both to go around Wednesday as O’Sullivan scored just his second goal in 14 games to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a come-from-behind 6-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

O’Sullivan’s third-period winner snapped a four-game losing streak as the Oilers overcame a 4-2 deficit to open a five-game homestand with the kind of victory than can turn a season on a dime.

O’Sullivan and the Oilers could use some of that.

“It was 5-4 Oilers. That’s what I was thinking,” said O’Sullivan, asked about his animated celebration. “It was a game where we were down and had to come back. We haven’t done that as much as we’d like this season.

“It was a big goal, at home, too. On the road, you can’t really celebrate as much. Generally, for me, I don’t really celebrate much when I do score.”

While it wasn’t the way coach Pat Quinn drew it up, the win sends the Oilers into a game with the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday feeling a lot better about themselves after a 2-8-2 stretch.

Likewise O’Sullivan, who has struggled mightily to find his scoring touch since joining Edmonton at the trade deadline last March — his winner was just his fourth goal of this season and sixth in 41 games since coming over from the Los Angeles Kings.

“You want to contribute,” O’Sullivan said. “It’s more about that than me scoring.

“It’s a business. When things aren’t going well, there’s going to be people who are unhappy. This is serious. This isn’t for fun here, you know? It’s a job for us. When you win, you’re able to have fun at your job.”

O’Sullivan, 24, jumped on a loose puck pushed into the slot by Gilbert Brule and snapped it behind Colorado’s Peter Budaj. It capped a rally that saw the Oilers escape a fifth straight loss with four straight goals, by Sam Gagner, Ryan Potulny, O’Sullivan and Ales Hemsky, into an empty net.

“Sometimes when you’re playing good games, you don’t win,” said defenceman Steve Staios. “If you continue to play the right way, things will fall into place.

“We faced a little bit of adversity. There’s some nights where you maybe start to feel sorry for yourself and you pack it in. We, as a team, showed some resilience. Over a long season, those types of signs are what you’re looking for in building a good team. That’s a good step forward for us.”

After a 6-2-1 start, the Oilers hit the skids, in large part because of a flu bug that hit hard in combination with injuries to Staios, Sheldon Souray, Shawn Horcoff, Fernando Pisani, Ryan Stone, J.F. Jacques and Denis Grebeshkov.

Putting that 2-8-2 stretch behind and clawing back into a Western Conference playoff position is the challenge. Quinn hopes Wednesday is a start, but knows one gritty win doesn’t constitute a turnaround.

“What I seem to find right now is we take those little victories and get a little bit of self-satisfaction,” Quinn said. “I’ve said this before, we’re not mentally tough enough to get through those periods where we bend but don’t break. We’re breaking, and we’ve got to get to where we bend because it happens to every hockey team.”

At 9-10-3 for 21 points, the Oilers face a difficult stretch in which they complete this homestand against Chicago, Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Jose before playing six straight games on the road.

“You’re always looking for something to build on that has a positive nature,” Quinn said. “When you’re a coach, a lot of times it’s easy to point to the negatives. You say, ‘We can’t do this any more,’ but you’ve also got to say, ‘Here’s where we did do it right.’ We’ve got to continue that.”

Notes: Captain Ethan Moreau, knocked out of Wednesday’s game in the second period by an unpenalized elbow to the jaw by Colorado’s Ryan Wilson, was experiencing headaches and dizziness Thursday and didn’t skate … Mike Comrie, in and out of the lineup with what was believed to be the effects of the flu complicated by asthma, has been diagnosed with mononucleosis.

Oilers’ Comrie struck by mononucleosisCopa del Rey round-up

4. Montage#4
5. Montage#5
6. End Credits

Modern Warfare 1

Was anyone else in complete shock last night? I’m actually still in shock now. I don’t even know where to begin. So I won’t. I’m going to keep this short and sweet. I don’t want to waste this high I’m on.

9-1.

9-1… really? Is this for real?

Is it possible that we could have two of the best English strikers in Crouch and Defoe? Is it possible that we might have England’s best winger in our squad? Is it possible we have 3 Croatian gems in our squad? Is it possible that Hudd has started every single game this season? Is it possible that we have just entered the history books with the 2nd highest scoring match in Premier League history? I can keep going but I will only come to one conclusion in the end. Yes!

It’s a proud moment for us all. Please take the time to enjoy it. COYS!

This is a solo bass piece I began working on in 2001. It went through loads of revision, and was performed numerous times in various iterations, generally allowing for some making it up as I went along, from an articulation and dynamics standpoint. Dan Nauss premiered the finalized version last year, from some very shoddy manuscripts and photocopied pages. Now it’s cleaned up and ready to go.

This theme music always gets stuck in my head easily for a couple of days every time I hear it. I watched the movie’s trailer quickly on YouTube a few nights ago (I was looking for a scene with Trevor Howard wearing a traditional naval duffle coat. You’ll find out why in this Tuesday post.) and it’s been this weekend’s soundtrack for me.

Anyway……, this notable musical score was composed by Anton Karas and played by him on the zither.

The picture demanded music appropriate to post-World War II Vienna. The British director Carol Reed was looking for a sound that would evoke the atmosphere of Vienna but he didn’t want schmalzy, heavily orchestrated waltzes……..

One night Karas was playing in a Vienna tavern and Reed heard him and was fascinated by the jangling melancholy of his music. Reed decided to have him score and play for the soundtrack of the film he was then shooting in Vienna. This was a brave decision by the director as Karas was an unknown wine bar performer before the productions came to Vienna and had absolutely no experience in composition or film scoring.

Reed later brought Karas to London, where the musician spent six weeks working with Reed on the score.

The zither was a new, catchy yet odd sound for English and American audiences and provided a perfect atmosphere for the film, which was very much the story of a stranger in a strange land.

“The Third Man Theme“, was released as a single in 1949/50 (Decca in the UK, London Records in the US). It became a best-seller—by November 1949, 300,000 records had been sold in Britain. The exposure made Karas an international star.

Well, it’s that time again. I usually blog with news that you can use in the industry, guideline upd

Well, it’s that time again. I usually blog with news that you can use in the industry, guideline updates and general knowledge updates, however today I have some bad news coming down the pipe.

We at Plaza Loans are catching wind that many banks are going to be raising the minimum credit score for FHA loans from 620 to 640. I know I know…I’m sorry!

Plaza Loans has one where house lender that has already made the change however we still have the 620 score available, though if you have clients that have lower credit scores…NOW IS THE TIME TO RAISE THEIR SCORES TO BE SAFE!! Remember, banks fall in line with each other for protection…once the large banks make this change (B of A, Wells, etc) the others will follow suit.

So now the question is…how do I raise my scores? It’s very easy!

First rule of thumb…NEVER allow your balance to available credit ratio to go over 50%. Example: Credit limit is $1300, make your maximum balance $650 and below.

Plan for the credit you want to obtain. Make sure that when you are going to obtain credit, it is for a reason…the time for frivolity is over. Just because you CAN save 10% at Nordstrom’s by applying for a card DOESN’T mean you should!

Never close credit cards, you don’t have to use them…just don’t close them!

Have a good mix of credit; cars, credit cards, installment debts (furniture, jewelry etc)

PAY YOUR BILLS ON TIME! I know; in these hard times…things happen. Remember…just because the payment is late DOES NOT MEAN it will show up on your credit. It must be 30 days late before it will report to the bureaus! So, if you must be late make sure that you get that payment to them WITH the late payment fee BEFORE it is 30 days later than the due date. Example: Due date is December 1st…it MUST be paid no later than the 30th of December! (I do not advocate this method however I am not naïve I understand things happen)

If you would like a consultation on your specific credit situation and further tips on how to raise your scores, please feel free to contact me!

A review by Steven Williamson posted on hexus.gaming has given AC2 a rating of 9/10 so what does AC2 have in store for us, it has being tweaked and following are some lines from the review that sum up the game experience, “AC 2 is less focus on dialogue, overly detailed conversations and long drawn out quests that required boring journeys, compared to AC1

The renaissance setting is made more authentic, Aside from combat sections, it’s a stealthy game that requires thought, planning, but also quick decisions and intuition. In fact it flows nicely between these two styles. short side missions can be exciting and fast-paced

Combat has been enhanced introducing more variety to his moves, including the ability to grab hold of an opponent and throw him, head-butt him or knee him. A variety of new weapons is also available, including the likes of an axe or a hammer.

Money has added a new dimension to the gameplay and also acts as great motivation for you to explore, carry out as many quests as possible and search for collectibles. With money comes power and buying extra weapons from the blacksmith and getting them repaired, or picking up a bigger pouch from the tailor to carry your goodies, or even furnishing your house with the greatest treasures, makes earning money an addictive addition to the game.

Quite simply, Assassin’s Creed II is better than its predecessor. It’s more focused and more streamlined towards your enjoyment, which ultimately makes it absorbing and more fun.”

The game did look promising from the trailers and previews, i am currently playing AC1 so i would really love to finish it fast and lay my hands on AC2 as fast as i can.

Stella would you take me home?

Despite a sustained economic downturn, leading corporations appear to be strengthening their volunta

Despite a sustained economic downturn, leading corporations appear to be strengthening their voluntary response to climate change. With the release of its third annual corporate climate scores for 90 well-known consumer companies, the non-profit organization Climate Counts pointed to a 22% increase in scores by 81 of the companies, as well as significant gains among those previously in the index’s lowest tier.

For the second straight year, Nike’s score of 83 points (out of a possible 100) topped the list. For the first time all of the 12 companies scored in the electronics sector and the four companies evaluated in the consumer shipping sector have now earned a score above 50 points, or what Climate Counts considers “striding” companies (in contrast with those “starting” companies earning 13-49 points and those “stuck” companies with 12 points or less). In recent years, these two sectors each have seen significant competitive energy around corporate sustainability, which appears to have had the effect of elevating scores – and substantive innovation efforts.

“Competition – the most fundamental tenet of a thriving global marketplace – will define the future of corporate climate action and sustainability,” said Climate Counts Executive Director Wood Turner. “Our scores show that companies are motivated to act when they may not measure up to other companies on their response to issues that matter to people. Climate change is certainly one of those issues, and companies in every major consumer sector have dialed up their efforts in an evolving economy to make the reduction of global warming pollution a competitive advantage.”

Climate Counts also found that the improved scores of a number of the companies it evaluates were more than just incremental. Scores surged for previously low-scoring companies like eBay (a jump of 48 points), US Airways (up 43 points to match most of the top scorers in a relatively low-scoring sector), Apple (up 41 points), and Levi Strauss (up 36 points) when many such companies became much more engaged in quantifying and reducing their impact on climate change and in supporting public policy on climate (or opposing the climate positions of groups like the US Chamber of Commerce). Climate Counts uses a 22-criteria scorecard to track corporate climate action in four key areas: measurement of impact; reduction of impact; engagement on public policy related to climate change; and openness and transparency with consumers on corporate climate activities.

“Climate Counts is one the key external benchmarks we consider in evaluating our progress to address climate change,” said Rob Bernard, Chief Environmental Strategist from Microsoft, up 23 points in the latest round of scores. “We appreciate the work they do to provide the marketplace with a framework for assessing companies’ actions to address the pressing issue of climate change.”

“Our new scores show that many, many companies have begun to take their responsibility for climate action seriously,” said Turner. “But the onus is also on consumers. It’s time now for them to show business that corporate climate action does not go unnoticed. Companies will continue to see climate protection as an opportunity when consumers tell them in no uncertain terms that inaction is simply not an option.”

To augment consumer action tools on its website, Climate Counts will release an iPhone application later this year to help consumers not only access company climate scores while shopping but also send messages to those companies about their scores.
