Rapid kommt in Ballbesitz, Acimovic bleibt seelenruhig stehen.

…Welcome to Bud – the North West Coast of Norway.

If you follow the blog train – Blogging around the world – you should be coming here from Huntersville – North Carolina – USA.

Do you wonder where you have landed? …no, Norway is not the Capitol of Sweden. A couple of years ago a newspaper wrote that most American who had heard about Norway believed that it was the Capitol of Sweden. Let me show you the google map:

Even I have a hard time envision the map in my head and Norway is a tiny dot on the map. Let`s zoom in.

I have to admit that I never reflected over the fact that Canada is just next door:)

Surrounded by a lot of water you will find the fishing village Bud. These days most of the fishing is done by the tourists. Tourism is about to become the most important part of our community. In November, December and January we have down time but in February we can feel the buzz again. We love that buzz. The visitors really enjoy their time here in the village and that makes us appreciate our village even more than we already do.

To take a picture outside my window this time of the year is a challenge. We have few hours of daylight and right now we have a little storm going on. Just in case I have made a collage of photos taken through out the year. You can see the collage at the end of the post.

But right now this is what I see outside my window:

Up the hill to the left just out of sight we have the nursing home for the elderly. From there you have the most beautiful view. The sad fact is that you don`t get a bed there before you are to old and sick to enjoy the view but it does make it a nice place for relatives to visit. For the few lucky ones who are able to manage on their own there are small houses were they are given the help they need. (The red house in the foreground is one of those houses).

When I moved here 6 years ago this was one of the things I liked about this place. They had made room for the old in the midst of the village. Not on the outside. I think that tells something about a community.

Inside it can be like this:

But, most of the time it`s like this:

And sometimes this mess creates pages like this:

I love to play with photos and beautiful paper and the dark season here in Norway is perfect for that.

It is time for the train to leave this station. Next stop is Canada were you will find JJ Soby – she is an accountant by day and scrapbooker by night, and she has a great eye for details.

Next Stop

If you would like to follow the train from the start you can go to: New Zealand and visit Helena

Click here to see the results. We sent our official results in last week to be tallied, so I guess we’ll find out later how the club did compared with other schools. I know www.collegearc.com has some good articles about the SCR and I believe some schools have posted info about how the contest went for them. If you are from a school club that participated in the contest, feel free to comment on this post about how the contest played out for your club.

I had been planning to post this blog for around 3 months now, but was caught u in several other things and hence couldn’t do it. This morning we had relatives arriving by the same train – 2861 – Link -Dakshin Express and they were very furious with the train, since they are used to travel from Hyderabad by AP or Rajdhani express and this is the first time they had taken 2861 – Link-Dakshin Express from Visakhapatnam.

The coach, AC system, Jerky movement in the train due to [high?] speed. The dining trays (in the coach) seems to be falling off even on placing the dinner plate. The curtains [in 2nd AC coach) cannot be pulled and hence were tied to the mini ladder/stair, handles and whatever.

[FYI, the 2861 Dakshin Express contains two parts, one part arriving/departing from/to Secunderabad and another arriving/departing from/to Visakhapatnam as 2721/2722 Link Express both of them being coupled and detached at Kazipet station]

I am uploading few snaps that I had taken during my journey :

Now for the regionalism, its only the 2721/2722 originating/terminating at Visakhapatnam [maintained by ECR - East Coast Railway, headquartered at Bhubaneswar] has such dilapidated coaches. The part of the train 2861/2862 originating/terminating at Hyderabad [maintained by SCR - South Central Railway, headquartered at Secunderabad] are very well maintained. Is this train the case of a step child of an absolutely unwilling parent?

Macy is NOT allergic to wool. In fact, she loves it! She’s a cloth diapered girl, so wool longies are a necessity around here. I used the Sheepy Pant pattern for the following scrappies. The pants are made out of left-over wool scraps from other knitting projects. Since reading about the horrific way some wool farmers get their wool off the sheep, I have vowed to use up my stash and only buy wool from nice wool farmers. These were a great way to use up the stash.

No, Macy doesn’t have two pairs of feet. The other cute toes belong to our friend’s son who is two weeks older than Macy. I love his mom, we nurse our babies, eat pie and watch silly videos together.

“They look to Iran as a major source of future oil supplies,” said James Placke, a senior associate at Cambridge Energy Research Associates who specializes in the Middle East. “They’d have to go through a substantial policy reversal, and I’d be surprised if they did that.”

The United States and its allies can tighten sanctions all they want – The United States already has extensive sanctions against Tehran. But without the Chinese on board sanctions don’t have the official weight of the United Nations Security Council, and are thus taken less seriously by the world community.

Iran is vulnerable to sanctions on both oil it exports and the gasoline it imports.

The oil side is where the country generates serious money, and an embargo could come in the form of restricting oil sales or imports of equipment designed to increase production from the country’s aging oil fields.

Iran is the world’s fourth-largest crude exporter and holds the planet’s third-largest supply of proven oil reserves, according to the Energy Information Administration. The country exported nearly two and half million barrels of oil a day in 2008.

oil exports account for nearly half the government’s revenues and most of those exports go to Asian countries, with China taking a big chunk.

The Chinese rely on Iran for 15% of their oil imports. Moreover, China has been investing heavily in the country as it looks to lock up resources for its growing economy. Meanwhile, interest from Japanese, European and Canadian firms wanes in the face of U.S pressure. State-run Chinese oil firms are now thought to have deals worth over $100 billion with Iran.

And even though the Russians have signaled a recent willingness to step up sanctions – perhaps due to Obama’s plans to SCRap a missile defense system in Central Europe – it’s thought that they’re still not willing to go after Iran’s energy sector.

“Russia and China aren’t yet at the point where they’ll be willing to cut off oil and gas investment in Iran,” said Michael Levi, a senior fellow for energy and the environment at Council on Foreign Relations.

Squeezing Iran’s gasoline imports is another tack sometimes called for by sanction hawks.

Despite being a huge oil producer, Iran lacks the refining capacity to turn all that crude into gasoline. As a result, it imports up to half of the gasoline it consumes.

Much of that gasoline comes from India. But barring a Security Council resolution, India isn’t likely to stop these shipments for a few reasons: It’s big business; India imports a lot of crude from Iran; India doesn’t’ want Iran getting any closer to China, India’s long-time rival in the region; and India has its eye on getting natural gas imports from a huge field Iran controls under the Persian Gulf.

“I imagine India would find a rational reason in their foreign policy for not doing that,” said Placke, who was a deputy assistant secretary of state for near eastern affairs before joining Cambridge.

All of this bodes ill for those in Washington trying to cajole Iran into halting its suspected nuclear weapons program.

So if sanctions don’t work, then what?

The military option may have severe repercussions. Facing heavily guarded facilities, a bombing campaign may only succeed in merely delaying any weapons program Iran might have, and bolster the current hardline administration in the process. It may also invite reprisals from Iran’s proxies in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, or Iraq.

From an energy perspective, Iran may retaliate by attempting to choke off Gulf oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz or, more likely, strike Saudi Arabia’s main oil loading facility at Ras Tanura.

But a nuclear armed Iran could also have severe repercussions. While many analysts say the talk of annihilating Israel may well be political bluster, touching off a nuclear arms race in the Middle East is all but certain. Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and maybe Egypt would all SCRamble to develop their own bomb.

“Some talk casually about striking Iran and some talk casually about Iran with a bomb, but they’re both horrible scenarios,” said Steve Clemons, director of the American Strategy Program at the New America Foundation. “We’re not investing enough in creating non-nightmare scenarios.”

Recent US Dollar losses have led to impressive Gains in our trend-following trading systems, but the overnight USD pullback leaves short-term outlook somewhat mixed. On the one hand, market momentum undeniably favors further US Dollar and Japanese Yen losses. Yet volatility expectations seen through Forex options prices remain quite low, and it seems like many traders are pricing in relatively limited price moves in the weeks ahead. Short-term price ACTion will prove critical to our overall Forex Strategy Outlook.

Given Great uncertainty surrounding near-term Forex market conditions, we will maintain our bias towards Range and Breakout systems. If nothing else, our Breakout strategies’ relative consistency through varied market conditions give us confidence that they may continue to trade well. To partially hedge against risks that currencies will return to broad trading ranges, we will watch For any worthwhile Range system opportunities. Yet risk on said trades should be kept tight in case Of continued trending conditions in the US Dollar and Japanese Yen.
Breakout2 and Momentum1 were star performers through the past week Of trade with strong anti-US Dollar price moves benefiting the price-following strategies. Momentum2 was caught slightly Off-guard with the intra-week shifts in sentiment; it attempted to chase price and got chopped out in key instances. We remain bullish Breakout2 due to its relative resilience across different market conditions, but our market outlook is less favorable For Momentum1. Given the lack of follow-through in short-term volatility expectations, the US Dollar breakdown may occur slowly if at ALL.

Range2 is another favored strategy in the week ahead. The key difficulty with this particular system is that it trades very infrequently. It uses a sentiment filter which takes it out of key currency pairs for extended periods of time-a factor that can be frustrating at times. Of course patience remains key, and the strategy will likely wait for more rangebound market conditions before entering trades worth our while.

Definitions

Volatility Percentile

– The higher the number, the more likely we are to see strong movements in price. This number tells us where current implied volatility levels stand in relation to the past 90 days of trading. We have found that implied volatilities tend to remain very high or very low for extended periods of time. As such, it is helpful to know where the current implied volatility level stands in relation to its medium-term range.

Trend

– This indicator measures trend intensity by telling us where price stands in relation to its 90 trading-day range. A very low number tells us that price is currently at or near monthly lows, while a higher number tells us that we are near the highs. A value at or near 50 percent tells us that we are at the middle of the currency pair’s monthly range.

Range High

– 90-day closing high.

Range Low

– 90-day closing low.

Last

– Current market price.

Strategy

– Based on the above criteria, we assign the more likely profitable strategy for any given currency pair. A highly volatile currency pair (Volatility Percentile very high) suggests that we should look to use Breakout strategies. More moderate volatility levels and strong Trend values make Momentum trades more attractive, while the lowest Vol Percentile and Trend indicator figures make Range Trading the more attractive strategy.
HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS HAVE MANY INHERENT LIMITATIONS, SOME OF WHICH ARE DESCRIBED BELOW. NO REPRESENTATION IS BEING MADE THAT ANY ACCOUNT WILL OR IS LIKELY TO ACHIEVE PROFITS OR LOSSES SIMILAR TO THOSE SHOWN. IN FACT, THERE ARE FREQUENTLY SHARP DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS AND THE ACTUAL RESULTS SUBSEQUENTLY ACHIEVED BY ANY PARTICULAR TRADING PROGRAM.

ONE OF THE LIMITATIONS OF HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS IS THAT THEY ARE GENERALLY PREPARED WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT. IN ADDITION, HYPOTHETICAL TRADING DOES NOT INVOLVE FINANCIAL RISK, AND NO HYPOTHETICAL TRADING RECORD CAN COMPLETELY ACCOUNT FOR THE IMPACT OF FINANCIAL RISK IN ACTUAL TRADING. FOR EXAMPLE, THE ABILITY TO WITHSTAND LOSSES OR TO ADHERE TO A PARTICULAR TRADING PROGRAM IN SPITE OF TRADING LOSSES IS MATERIAL POINTS WHICH CAN ALSO ADVERSELY AFFECT ACTUAL TRADING RESULTS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER FACTORS RELATED TO THE MARKETS IN GENERAL OR TO THE IMPLEMENTATION.

OF ANY SPECIFIC TRADING PROGRAM WHICH CANNOT BE FULLY ACCOUNTED FOR IN THE PREPARATION OF HYPOTHETICAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS AND ALL OF WHICH CAN ADVERSELY AFFECT ACTUAL TRADING RESULTS.

Does your business use diesel powered vehicles? If so, pay attention. An upcoming 2010 (that’s in si

Does your business use diesel powered vehicles? If so, pay attention. An upcoming 2010 (that’s in six months folks) Federal Regulation affects YOU.
As you may or may not know, ALL 2010 model year vehicles with a diesel fuel powered engine will have some new requirements. The EPA’s “Clean Diesel Rule” mandates diesel engines eliminate 90% of the currently allowed emissions of Nitrogen Oxide (a.k.a. NOx).

Engine Manufacturers have two technologies to choose from when it comes to solutions to this undoubtedly very expensive problem: 1)Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and 2) Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)–Think Betamax v. VHS. SCR is winning standard in this battle and most diesel engine manufacturers have already committed to it like Ford, Dodge, and GM.

So what does this mean for business owners and mangers that use diesel powered vehicles in their day to day business activity? Work and Expense. Implementing a new technology into a production is always expensive the first couple of model years, but the SCR equipped vehicles will require “Diesel Exhaust Fluid” (DEF) to operate properly and stay in compliance. You thought fuel was expensive? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

SCR equipped vehicles will consume about 1 gallon of DEF for every 50 gallons of diesel fuel burned. How much does a gallon of DEF cost? If it’s purchased in the small consumer packaging or the highly marketed “totes”… as much as $8 per gallon. I’ve heard numbers thrown around like “$35” per gallon, but I’m just not seeing that. $8/gallon feels about right. Large 18-wheelers may see some relief because they will conserve fuel, but this new regulation certainly isn’t going to save anyone any money. This is a direct new cost. Businesses with smaller diesel trucks, such as ground support vehicles at airports, work trucks that are utilized by my construction and paving clients, car dealerships, delivery companies (FEDEX, UPS), and municipal and county government vehicles will be affected just to name a few.

So, what’s the best way to save money? My advice—install an underground storage tank and buy in bulk from the manufacturer. You will save about $5/ per gallon on DEF if it’s bought in bulk. Yes, installing an underground storage tank is expensive but in the long term the upfront expense will pay for itself quickly when you calculate the cheaper per gallon price of DEF.

Or better yet, form a partnership with other local companies that are affected by this regulation and install one underground storage tank that everyone in the partnership uses. I suggest this business structure quite a bit when consulting to corporate aviation departments looking to install fuel farms. All of the businesses involved in the partnership will save money and break even on the initial tank installation MUCH faster.

In the end, DEF is going to be a household name next year and there’s no way around it. Start strategizing now on a method and plan to keep your cost as low as possible.

Just announced are the results of the Royal College of General Practitioners’ prize for research paper of the year (2008). The paper submitted by my colleague at UCL, (the inspirational) Professor Trisha Greenhalgh (and her team) and I was given special recognition as 2008’s ‘highly commended paper’ (Patient’s Attitudes to the Summary Care Record & HealthSpace: Qualitative Study).

Our paper evaluates the early adopter phase of the large-scale IT project that is under way to place a Summary Care record for every patient on a central store from which it can be accessed by NHS staff. We conducted interviews and focus groups to capture patients’ attitudes, including vulnerable groups who may have concerns about using the new technology as well as confidentiality. It was for bringing the patient dimension to the debate that the Panel chose to highly commend our paper. The democratization of the research process was a strong element in my PhD, so I am particularly pleased about this present commendation, as my main contribution, for this paper, was recruiting people from vulnerable groups, running the focus groups and, in so doing, giving them a voice.

So, although we didn’t win, recognising a paper as ‘highly commended’ only usually happens in exceptional circumstances, so still cause for celebration.

Furthermore, her tracks are regularly aired on national Radio One. When the rave scene first hit Toronto back in 1992, Ken, who was instantaneously attracted to the new sound of Hardcore Techno, made a new path in life and dove in head first. Spinning under the pseudonym Viper, on his five-hour radio program ‘RUSH’ on CHRY 105.5 FM in Toronto, Ken is credited with being the first DJ to spin Happy Hardcore over North American radio airwaves. In 1994, Ken introduced Toronto to world-class gatherings while providing the best international and local DJ talent. With crowds reaching over 4,000 in attendance, Viper was fast becoming much more than just a DJ. After countless performances all around the globe, 8 years later Viper finally made the leap and started producing his own tracks in 2000. From DJ’ing, to throwing parties, to producing, Viper truly is one of the founders of the North American Happy Hardcore scene. As North America’s longest playing HHC DJ, Viper is making his first Candyball appearance and it is my honor to close the show with him in this very special morning glory tag set!

Fresh off his performance at HTID in the sun, the 3rd annual week long HTID massive held in Spain, Milo is back on home turf and ready to rock. With production releases on Infinity Records, and forthcoming releases on Warped Science, Executive Records, and Relentless, Milo truly is one of North America’s top producers. Playing for crowds from coast to coast, including Canada, for almost an entire decade now, Milo is one of the biggest keystones in today’s stateside Hardcore scene. Pushing the new sound of Hardcore to the masses, whether in the studio, behind the scenes running NAHM, or up on the decks, no one can deny the passion and style Milo brings to the table. No stranger to the North America rave circuit, this performance will mark Milo’s 2nd trip to New York City to spin for us here at Ravers Only and the Candyball massive!

Shortly after their chance encounter, the two became friends and it wasn’t long after that they performed their first B2B set. After a blazing performance it was obvious they worked well together and the two came up with their new tag moniker, Pinky & The Brain. The driving force behind the Floorburnerz, for the last 7 years Dupont and Soundstream have spent countless hours perfecting their styles and rocking dance floor after dance floor. From Maine to Maryland, Baltimore to Boston, Philly to New York City, Pinky & The Brain has quickly become one of the East Coast’s most popular tag team duos. It was 2005 before Joey, aka Starkiss, got his first taste of Happy Hardcore music. Attending an all age’s rave in Philadelphia, Starkiss met, one of his now favorite DJs, Candy Kid. Shortly after that meeting, Joey started buying records and eventually bought his first set of turntables. Under the tutelage of DJ Candy Kid, Starkiss spent the next two years learning the art of DJing. Finally catching a break when Mickey, from Tru Skool Productions, gave him his first booking, Joey made his first public appearance in 2007. Without looking back, Starkiss has spent the last two years polishing his mixing while entertaining crowd after crowd, up and down the East Coast, with his unmatched track selection and seamless mixing. Making his first Candyball appearance, Starkiss is coming to show you why he has quickly become one of Philly’s favorite Happy Hardcore DJs!

Learning how to mix on a pair of old belt-drive decks, it was 1993 when Uplift first started buying records and perfecting his craft. During the Autumn of 2000, Uplift decided it was time to start pushing his name as a producer, as well as a DJ, and so he ventured into the studio and got to work. With Hardcore vinyl in short supply around that time, Uplift decided to start his own record label, Raw Elements, and has been producing smash hits ever since. A resident at Raindance, for the past 9 years straight, Uplift has played for the likes of HTID, Slammin’ Vinyl, Hardcore Heaven, Uproar, United Dance, Hardcore Evolution plus countless others in every corner of the UK. Furthermore, with successful tours to Australia, Canada, U.S., and Europe, Uplift has become one of the most well respected DJ/Prodcuers in the UK Hardcore scene today. Making history with his first New York City appearance, Uplift is coming to share the Raw Elements sound with the Candyball massive!

Darren Hotchkiss, a young up & coming DJ/Producer from Glasgow, is what some call a prodigy. The son of a DJ, you all should know of his father The Doctor, Darren was introduced to music, and started spinning of course, at a very young age. After years of honing his skillz and perfecting his craft behind closed doors, in May of 2007 Darren stepped behind the decks and took his first public stage at the tender age of 16. Since then young Hotchkiss has been accepting bookings all over Scotland at some of their biggest events, including Coloursfest, Fantazia, Fantasylands, HTID and BTTF. After only a few years of producing, in 2008 Darren seemed to hit his stride and his improvements since then have not gone unnoticed. Signed to the massive Notorious Vinyl label, and currently collaborating on tracks with Marc Smith himself, Darren is well on his way to becoming one of UK Hardcores brightest stars.

Toronto’s anthem king is back baby, and this time he is taking no prisoners. Finding his love for Happy Hardcore back in 1998, Tranzit downloaded a fresh mix by DJ Frisky, over a dial-up connection, and like a lot of us, he was hooked immediately. It was not very long before Tranzit had records, turntables, and was making his own mix tapes. A year or two after his 16th birthday, Tranzit’s mix tapes, and hype, began to spread throughout Toronto. His quick mixing, combined with his amazing taste in tracks, gave him a unique style all his own and Tranzit quickly moved up the ranks in Toronto. Playing all across Canada and the United States, Tranzit has spent the better part of the last decade mesmerizing crowds and promoters alike. Known for incorporating the ever so popular Eurodance from the 90’s into the Hardcore biznezz, you never really know what you will get when Tranzit steps to the decks!

The hard-driven pulse delivered from a pounding kick drum and solid bass line fuels PKat’s fervor for music. Over the past 10 years, PKat has built a name for himself one gig at a time performing all across the United States. From New York City to California, New England to Miami, including two previous Candyball appearances, PKat has established himself as an enthusiastic Kat with a knack for laying it down proper. His fierce and independent style immerses listeners in waves of hard sound, and throws dance floors into a frantic frenzy. But after years of throwing down the sickest mixes of ecclectic choons to packed crowd after packed crowd, in 2004 PKat opened the gates toward production and re-emerged as a Producer/DJ. Perpetually evolving his signature sound his fame has grown exponentially. Now five years later, PKat continues to rock the decks, challenging audiences preconceived notions of “what is hardcore”, exposing them to the most authentic sounds he can find/create and surpassing expectations with each new performance.

While at The Abyss, Genki played to thousands of people every Friday and Saturday night, quickly making a name for himself in the club circuit. Despite the club’s normal format of top 40, Genki was determined to bring the UK Hardcore sound to the masses. In an area previously devoid of anything resembling Hardcore, Genki played at various clubs and underground events across the country. After leaving The Abyss in 2003, Genki went on to score residencies at Klub Ambush, Avanti, Skips, and Mixers, DJ’ing regularly for the last 6 years. Holding weekly shows on the UK station “Hardcore Regime” and on Japan’s “Club Vanqul Radio”, Genki still breaks away from time to time in order to play all around the US. Always asked to fetch coffee or pick up BA’s laundry, after a few years Kemikalz finally got fed up and decided to go his own way. Taking on smaller jobs to build his reputation, Kemikalz was responsible for single handedly saving hundreds of lives over the next few weeks. Before long, Kemikalz was answering hundreds of emails a day. People all over the world were in need of his services. One night while on a mission however, Kemikalz followed a suspect through a packed NYC nightclub. Stopped in his tracks by the Drum & Bass pumping out of the speakers, Kemikalz was hypnotized by the beats. After standing in the same spot for five hours, the music stopped and Kemikalz knew what he had to do. He went home, went to sleep, woke up, bought turntables, and has been spinning records and destroying dance floors ever since!
