December 21 Project. What did you start this year that you’re proud of?

I start lots of things! I’m not sure what I’ve started that I’m proud of though. I enjoyed most things I do but proud… hmmm.

I’ve been mucking around more with digital scrapping and I guess I’m proud that I’m giving that a good shot. I’m not quite jiggy with it yet but I’ll get there. I love doing it and that’s probably more important to me than being proud of it.

Ja jeg vil shoppe. Jeg vil handle masse… Jeg må inrømme at jeg elsker og handle, men er veldig kjedelig å se at det er penger på kortet som blir borte når jeg egentlig har andre ting og bruke det på.

Men det hadde vært så herlig og bare hatt en bok og bladd i, som f.eks.

Scrapbooking and photography go hand-in-hand. Usually a scrapbooking page is made with a couple of photos. The photos used can be anything from a snapshot of the family to a compelling landscape photograph. It just depends on the photography experience of the scrapbooker. Many learn the two hobbies simultaneously. Some get so good at both that they are making money through online platforms, giving tips and advice about how to get better at both hobbies. A great example of this can be found at the pioneerwoman.com. She’s got an incredible grip on both hobbies (not to mention being a savvy writer), so much so her website is hit on by millions. In this chapter, I’ll integrate the two hobbies so you can delve into both.

Here’s a scrapbooking page I made from old family photos taken in Miami where I grew up.

Here are some pointers about the page that you can use if you’re a beginning scrapbooker:

*            Tilt the pictures. Notice how corresponding pictures in the bottom and top rows are tilted opposite from one another. I did that so there would be better balance on the page.

*            Build paper frames for your pictures. However, this was not necessary on the old pictures I used because they were printed with frames.

*            Have at least a little bit of text on the page. In the case of “Florida,” one word is worth a thousand pictures. The word reminds people that the pictures were taken in Florida.

*            Use textured background paper of uniform color (which is usually less than $1 a sheet). You don’t want to have a cluttered background. Many papers have very busy backgrounds. To be sure, some like this and can get away with it if the foreground and background colors complement each other match, but personally I don’t care for it.

*            Don’t overdo the stickers. A couple on a page is enough.

*            Overlap images artfully. Notice how the top and bottom rows of images overlap differently for additional balance in the page.

Just popping in to share one of the layouts I made for my local scrapbook store, Scrapbook & Co. I *heart* that place and everyone associated with it! Seriously, the sweetest people ever! They just expanded into a bigger store, and I’m so, so excited and proud of them! If you’re ever in Louisiana, you’ve GOT to swing by, say hi to Denise, and check out her fab store!

I have been looking forward to the day I can make some of my favorite cookies ever! These are the softest, chunkiest cookies you’ll ever eat. I made them from scratch and posted about it here, and I use a recipe that I found here. I think these will be the perfect cookies for Santa this year, don’t you? Yup, Mommy and Daddy Santa will thoroughly enjoy these on Christmas Eve!

All of the product you see (with the exception of the base card stock & stamps) comes from the Little Yellow Bicycle, 25 Days of Christmas line…. LOVE this line of product! It’s full of elegance and charm- perfect for your Christmas projects! Check out the glittered brads, too! Yum!

I’m working on my 2010 calendar so that I can look at my kids when I’m at work!  This was a gorgeous sunny day last winter when they were playing with Emely in the front yard.  It was such fun to create this page and add the snowflake elements.  More to come another day.

É o ano está chegando ao fim… e eu tenho sido uma péssima blogueira… acho que Papai Noel nem vai se lembrar de mim… mas é tudo por ótimos motivos. Tenho trabalhado MUITO e estou bem feliz… acho também que finalmente estou conseguindo conciliar minha vida virtual e a real… um equilíbrio maior (se bem que antes ele nem existia).

Loke har fyllt 3 år den 27 november och till detta kalas fick jag scrappat söta inbjudan med robotar på. Det var många utav de kalasinbjudna som tyckte att det var fint – kul att de uppskattade de timmar det tog att pyssla ihop alla kort! Så här var de:

Nu har jag buntit ihop min graffiti-bok och jag är mycket nöjd med vad jag åstadkommit de senaste veckorna! Själva bindningen var inte särskilt svår att göra, och det blev riktigt bra! Jag har dock några sidor kvar att fylla med text, men det kommer. Det känns lite sorgligt att kursen är över, för det har verkligen varit intressant och jag har använt nytt material på nytt sätt. Superkul!

Now I have done the binding on my the Graffiti of my life, and I am so happy about the outcome of the last couple of weeks! The binding was not hard to do and I am very pleased with how it turned out! I do have some remaining pages to write on, and I will do that later. It is sad that the class has come to an end, because it really has been inspiring and interesting and I have used new material in new ways. Awesome!

Welcome to Inks &  Thinks! This is my first foray into the world of blogs so bear with me as I learn to navigate. This will be proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I did manage to upload my own header that I made with Stampin’ Ups new My Digital Studio which really and truly is more than digital scrapbooking. After Hallowe’en I made a quick scrap slideshow and emailed it off to family and friends. I’ve been working on my 2010 personalized calendar as I love to look at pictures of my kids when I’m at work.

I don’t plan on being a daily poster but do anticipate that perhaps, if all goes well, I can post once per week.

It’s official, I received the email from Stampin’ Up that I am now a certified MDS demonstrator. So that means I’m supposed to know tonnes about it. I do love it but am still learning every time I use it. My 2010 calendar is almost ready to send to the printer and I’m in the midst of creating a lovely scrapbook about our dog, Echo.

Jag går en “Graffiti of your life”- kurs med Dina Wakely, och det är superkul! Har provat en massa nya saker, målat och kladdat! Det känns att jag är lite nybörjare på detta, men ruskigt roligt är det! Det ska bli en bok med 8 blad (16 sidor) när det är klart, och såhär ser det ut just nu  – mitt i processen! Jag ska börja binda ihop sidorna nu. Det är inte många lektioner kvar… Det svåraste är att komma på tänkvärda saker att skriva, men det blir nog fullt!!

I am taking a “Graffiti of your life” class with Dina Wakely and it is great fun! I have tried many new things, with gesso, spray ink and acrylics! I am a beginner, but still I really have fun! I will end up with a book with 16 pages, and this is in the middle of the process. I will start to bind the pages together now. Only a few lessons left. The tricky thing right now is to find good quotes for the graffiti part…

Well I am hopeless at retreat packing. Never know what to take and what to leave behind. Always have grand plans for matching papers to photos before I go and never get there. Somehow I always end up leaving stresses out and cranky. This time was no different this afternoon. However I am putting my foot down. No more cranky it is meant to be fun! Have scrap stuff packed just have to throw some clothes in a bag then I will be off o ce the kids go to Dads.

Nu är det ute! Nya numret av spanska tidningen Scrápate, och jag är med där!! Superkul! Blev tillfrågad och intervjuad i somras, och det kändes jätteroligt! Sen har tiden gått, och jag har nästan glömt bort det, men nu! Nu är tidningen här! Jag har inte bläddrat i den ännu, så jag är jättenyfiken! Här kan man iaf se förstasidan…

Now you can get the new issue of the Spanish magazine Scrápate. I am in it!! It is awesome! I was asked and interviewed this summer, and I felt so honoured! Time passed and I almost forgot about it, but now! Finally! I haven´t read the magazine yet, so I am still curious, but here you can see the first page!

A year ago I made these little chipboard frames that came with an orange and black Halloween wreath kit. Considering that Halloween is over and that I wanted to be able to use these little frames year round I switched them up and added some cute pink embellishment and voila! the finished product is this cute little Polka-Dot-Pretty. This project took me about 15 minutes to complete and it was super fun to make!

Hope it gives you some inspiration.

P.S. – This would make a cute & simple Christmas gift for someone special.

Materials:

Tools:

• Scissors
• Glue Sticks (Archival Safe)
• Hot Glue Gun
• Black Inkpad
• ZIG Writers Markers (Black)

Materials:

• 8 ½ by 11 Black Cardstock
• 8 ½ by 11 Pink Patterned Paper
• 8 ½ by 11 Black & White Patterned Paper
• Two Matte-Sized Black & White Patterned Paper
• Scrap Sheet White Paper
• Scrap Sheet Pink Paper
• A favorite picture!

Embellishments:

• Chipboard Letters
• Butterfly Stamps, two sizes (K&Company)
• Pink Gemstones

Directions:

1. Cut off ¼ inch off the edge of the pink patterned paper, once horizontally and once vertically.
2. Use black inkpad to ink the edges of the pink patterned paper (rub inkpad gently around edges of pink patterned paper to give it an antique look).
3. Glue the pink patterned paper onto the solid black cardstock, centered.
4. Cut 8 ½ x 11 black and white patterned paper in half, vertically.
5. Glue black and white patterned paper half to the right-hand side.
6. Choose one matte-sized paper and glue horizontally to bottom left-hand side of layout.
7. Glue picture of your choosing on solid black matte.
8. Glue matted picture to center of the layout.
9. Pick chipboard letter and trace it unto scrap pink paper. Cut it out.
10. Glue letter onto bottom left corner of photo.
11. Use black ZIG Writer to color the rubber portion your butterfly stamp (both sized stamps)
12. Stamp both of your scrap white & pink sheets of paper with both sized butterfly stamps.
13. Cut out butterflies from paper.
14. Large white & large Pink butterfly, hot-glue pink gemstone.
15. Hot-glue all four butterflies wherever you want to put them.
16. Admire Your Hard Work!

This is the actual demonstration that I worked on while at the October Connecting Point: Get Crafty!

Since I didn’t want to end up with two of the same exact layouts after my demonstration, I simply switched it up and did this layout horizontally, instead of diagonally like the first one. This is one of the two layouts that I gave to my hubby for our one year anniversary, which is why I chose to use pictures from our wedding.

This picture is of both his wedding band and his promise ring. Before I gave Lenny his promise ring I had something engraved inside, which reads “I will follow you.” I made this promise to him way before we were ever even engaged and I vowed to keep it until death do us part. I guess that’s why this layout means so much to me, because it’s a reminder of the promise I made to be a faithful, committed, and dutiful wife.

I love you Leonard. Nothing will ever keep us apart. I promise.

As if I didn’t already have enough reasons to love my school, SEBTS just had to give me one more reason to be absolutely smitten with them.

Each month the Women’s Life Center holds a Connecting Point meeting for a time of fellowship and fun for all Southeastern ladies. Each meeting has a different theme and last months theme was called “Get Crafty”. For this meeting different ladies were asked to host a table where they would bring a craft to showcase for anyone who was interested. The showcased crafts varied from jewelry making to sewing, from cooking to….yes…of course SCRAPBOOKING!  And to my surprise I was asked to host this table and showcase one of my projects.

To say that I was excited is an understatement. It should be obvious from my lack of blog posts that I haven’t really had an opportunity to do anything crafty in a while, so when I was asked to do a scrapbook demonstration I pounced on the opportunity. Thankfully my one year anniversary was right around the corner so I was able to tie the two events together and create two nice little 8 1/2 x 11″ layouts for my hubby.

I was so blessed to have several ladies choose my craft out of all the ones being offered and I had a great time teaching them my project. Here are some pictures from the event, courtesy of Kristel.

My eldest child ‘75 is into scrapbooking. Not the digital kind but the kind where she hand draws and cuts everything. You remember, before we stored pictures on our computers we actually had to develop them and put them into albums. She wasn’t very crafty growing up but she is now, a late developing gene I guess. When she was young she played sports, soccer and volleyball, was a cheerleader, played cello and flute in the orchestra and somehow maintained a 4.0. Still don’t know how she did it all, I know I couldn’t. She has a very competitive nature and loves to win but excepts loss pretty well…. sometimes.

I better get back to the point before I forget it, which is scrapbooking. She has become quite the little artist and her pages are in demand. She has her own eBay store and I am trying to talk her into a web page. I am particularly proud of her Breast Cancer Awareness pages. These are the ones I am showing you today. She also has many Disney pages and takes special orders for your event. Drop on over to her store at dsnechk (disney chick) and tell her I sent you. $1 of every Breast Cancer 2 Page layout she sells will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.
